Chapter 51 - Happy Holidays Pt. 2
Dabi followed Azumi into the apartment and peered around at the decorations and small tree on the corner. They still had the large L shaped couch and Dabi was surprised how much hadn't changed since his last time here. Azumi offered to make him a pitcher of iced tea if he still liked it, and he did. She disappeared into the kitchen as Dabi looked at each of the new photos hanging up. There were a few family photos, some new ones of Keigo including him in a red shirt with a black tie. He was leaning on a palm with a soft happy smile. It was a formal photo and it made Dabi's chest ache as he realized he missed Keigo. More than he could allow himself to admit.
Azumi came back from the kitchen and smiled at the photo that attracted his attention. "Keigo got that for me for Mother's Day. It was so sweet because I stopped taking formal pictures when he was having his own done. Although I managed to get this one." She pointed to one in a small frame that showed Keigo and Mila curled up on the couch in a makeshift nest asleep. Dabi glanced around, sipping his iced tea as he commented. "I don't see Mila around, is she with Uncle Soji?"
"Oh! No, she's with Sion and Jin down the hall.
I'm sorry I should go get her before it gets too late. Make yourself at home, hon." She put a gentle hand on his shoulder and kissed his forehead smiling, just like when he was younger. She hurried out into the hall to go get Mila, leaving Dabi to explore the rest of the apartment. He was pleased to find the back balcony door unlocked. It made him grin to find that rule hadn't changed. The rest of the apartment was warm and welcoming as it had been back when he first came to visit Keigo.
Exploring around he saw presents under the tree, a few addressed to him from 'Uncle' or 'Auntie'. It made him feel comfortable to be with the Nakamuras because of how welcoming and accepting they were. He felt like they were closer to a family to him then his own. Dabi missed his siblings, but knew they were doing their own thing. Not even trying to figure out if he was alive or not, living in fear of that man who ruined their family. That man who had hurt his little brother, drove his mother to attack his siblings.
His hands had become fists as his thoughts went to a dark place. Azumi opened the front door leading a small white haired girl through and helping her to take off her shoes. Mila looked around and spotted Dabi instantly, her little wings flapping excitedly flashing different shades of blue and black as she chirped and waved. "Hello! I know you. Nii chan showed me your picture. We have the same eyes!" Dabi blinked at the phrase Keigo had told him before and suddenly laughed, to Mila's delight. "Yes, we kind of do." He stated as she ran over to him and tilted her head like a curious bird. Her eyes were drawn to his sutures as her wings relaxed on her back and Azumi walked over.
"Mila, this is Dabi. Dabi, this is my new daughter, Mila." Dabi held out a hand to shake and she grabbed it with both of hers, frowning at his hand. "Do they hurt?" She looked up at him with wide eyes and Dabi was frozen at her question as he tried to think of how to answer that. She had no fear of his scars, his face, even his clothes could be perceived as scary, but this little girl seemed more concerned with his well being than his appearance. "No, chickie. They don't hurt. Aunt Zumi did a good job cleaning and fixing them for me."
This seemed to satisfy Mila and she beamed up at him hearing they were fine. "Good. You look like a ragdoll." She pointed to the edges of her lips. "Do you want to play with me Nii san? I have crayons and a dollhouse, but Mommy needs to make a doll for you and Daddy taught me checkers we can play!" Dabi looked to Azumi who was smiling between them both as she started to dig out sewing supplies before he spoke. "How about Checkers? And if you take a piece you get to ask a question from the other person"
"Okay!" She gently pulled him towards the center table to set up the checkers. Azumi planted herself on part of the couch to sew another doll for Mila's doll house while Mila helped him start the game, her wings still and folded neatly on her back. The rest of the afternoon passed with a calming normalcy as Mila asked questions and answered questions. Once the game was done, she would reset the board, looking up at Dabi as if to ask silent permission and smiled when he would move a piece to start a new game.
This is how Keigo found them when he got home from his patrol. They were in the middle of a game as he walked in through the balcony door and paused, not expecting to see Dabi sitting on the couch playing checkers. Mila chirped and her wings flapped quickly as she hopped up and ran over to her brother. "Nii chan!" Keigo grinned and caught her, twirling her around as she flapped her wings. "Hey little bird! What are you up to?" She giggled and tried to reach his red wings, which looked full and wing swept, obviously he didn't have to use them much today. "Me and Dabi are playing checkers!"
Keigo walked over to the board with Mila held in his arms. In his newer hero uniform, he looked older than the seventeen he was turning in four days. Dabi couldn't stop himself from staring at Keigo, glasses in his blonde hair, headphones around his neck and golden eyes framed in black pointed lines that were glancing at Dabi with that easy going smile on his face. Shaking his thoughts from his mind, Dabi finally waved from his seat on the sofa, smirking. "Don't you look all heroic and official." A slight blush dusted Keigo's face as he set Mila down on the ground. "I should go change and clean up. I'll be back."
Azumi smiled softly as she watched Keigo hurry to his room to change, and then looked to Dabi who was following the younger teenager with his turquoise eyes. Mila moved to sit back down to their game and looked at Dabi. "Your turn!"

Soji came home an hour later. By this time, Keigo was sitting next to Dabi on the couch playing team checkers against Azumi, who was sitting on the other side of the table with Mila in her lap and her arms around the 4 year old little girl. While Keigo was doing most of the planning and moves, Dabi seemed content to sit next to him, an arm along the back of the couch and his legs folded at the knees. He glanced at Keigo a few times, catching the golden eyes on him, but they would quickly look away to the checker game. Dabi couldn't help but think Keigo wanted to say or do something, but was holding back.
So when the man of the house walked in, Mila gor excited again, jumping off Azumi's lap to run over and get scooped up by the silver haired lawyer. Dabi moved his arm from the back of the sofa to his side as he watched the family moment. Azumi sighed with a smile and stood. "You two win. I need to get dinner going." She paused walking by the front door to give Soji a kiss as he was kicking off his shoes. He carried the little winged girl back to the living room and smiled seeing Dabi. "Hey, we weren't expecting you so early. Everything ok?" Dabi nodded, not moving from his spot as Keigo sat back on the sofa, his arms touching Dabi's arms as they were sitting so close to each other.
"Yeah. I met up with Auntie at her work and walked her back so she didn't have to take the bus." Soji smiled. "Well thank you for that. Your things are already here?" The black haired teen nodded and looked to Keigo as the blonde was smirking and watching Mila. She had stuck her hands into Soji's hair and was playing with it as she giggled. For his part. Soji ignored it and walked to his desk to put his paperwork away before carrying her into the kitchen. "Come on, little one. Let's go help mommy in the kitchen and leave the boys alone."
Keigo looked at Dabi who was looking at him and nodded his head towards his bedroom. Nodding agreement, Dabi stood and walked to the familiar bedroom, waiting for Keigo to follow and shut the door. Once it was closed, Keigo barely had time to turn around when Dabi was standing nose to nose with him, hands on the door on either side of the blonde as his hypnotic eyes burned into Keigo's as he spoke just above a whisper. "Been waiting to get you alone again, pretty bird. I've seen you on TV and in the news. Made me realize how much I missed you." Keigo's eyes closed halfway as he smirked, listening to Dabi and gently nudging his nose along Dabi's, lips a hair's breath apart.
"Well you've got me alone, hot stuff. What do you plan to do about it?" Dabi closed the distance to capture Keigo's lips with his own, hungrily. Keigo trilled in his throat and reached up to grab Dabi's short, tugging him closer as his tongue begged for entrance along the two different lips. His red wings were puffed up and shaking as Dabi moved a hand to the back of Keigo's head, gripping the blonde locks, and the other moved down to his lower back just under the soft crimson red wings. He opened his lips as Keigo's tongue explored the inside of Dabi's mouth, the older teen growled low in response to the trilling.
Keigo's head was spinning in lust and disbelief. He had been dreaming about this since their first kiss at Hosu City Hospital, and dreams do not compare to the real thing. He was memorizing the feel of Dabi with his lips and his hands, which were no longer gripping his white tee shirt, instead his hands were on Dabi's shoulders and slowly moving down to his chest, making sure to arch his back and push himself into Dabi's arms. When they both stopped for air, Keigo's face was flushed and Dabi smirked, forehead on Keigo's. "I see you missed me too."
"Maybe a little bit. " Keigo managed as he took handfuls of Dabi's shirt. The taller teen grinned and pulled him over to his own bed, moving him around to sit on it and then kissing him again as he gently pushed the blonde to lay down, being mindful of the puffed up bright wings. Keigo's face was flushed with lust and his pupils were dilated into slits as he trilled again at the kiss. Dabi whispered between soft kisses that were trailing along his jaw. "Not doing anything more than this, pretty bird. Have to save something for your birthday in a few days." At this, Keigo put a hand over half of his face, groaning. "Seriously? You got me all wound up to tell me no?"
Dabi laughed and moved his hand to grip Keigo's waist. "Not telling you no, just that you'll have to wait. We won't have time to do everything I want to do to you before dinner. And you're going to want me to finish everything I start." His blue eyes were glowing gently as he grinned down at Keigo, the blonde swallowing before he spoke. "How can you make a threat sound so desirable?" Leaning down to brush his lips along Keigo's right ear Dabi whispered. "That's not a threat, pretty bird, that's a promise."
Keigo turned his head to kiss Dabi again when there was a knock on the door. It didn't open, but Azumi spoke through it as Keigo dropped his head on the bed groaning. "Boys, dinner. Come on out when you can." There was a pause as they looked at each other, then Dabi crawled off of Keigo, offering a hand. "Have I mentioned how much your mom rocks?" Keio took the offered hand and brushed his hair back as he tried to calm his flushed face. "Yeah, her and Soji are the best parents anyone could ask for." Once they were presentable, Keigo opened the door to come out with Dabi close behind. Keigo couldn't help think this was going to be a long and wonderful Christmas break.
/
Christmas Eve found them all watching movies on the sofa as Azumi and Soji cuddled together, Mila camped in Azumi's lap, and Dabi was sprawled on the short end of the sofa with Keigo using his lap as a pillow. If Soji and Azumi noticed anything, they didn't comment, enjoying the movie and time with family. Dabi peered around at the domestic bliss that he felt a part of. He had been nervous that he would feel out of place being there for the holidays, but so far he had been treated like one of the family. This was something he never got with his real family. Trained to the point of collapse, watching his father abuse and destroy his family, even sending him to the Commission to try and train his quirk despite being dubbed a failure.
Looking around, he saw Mila was trying not to fall asleep, thumb in her mouth. She was so accepting of him, scars included, and he felt a yearning to spend more time with her. Maybe as a replacement for his own siblings that he could no longer see. Then there was Soji, who treated him like a son with kind words, help and advice. Dabi had never seen him yell or raise his voice, and he was always soft and caring with his family, even with Keigo. Then there was Azumi. To say Dabi cared about her was an understatement. Azumi was Dabi's ideal maternal figure. She cared for him, never judging what he chose to do and tended his sutures and injuries without question when he would show up. He had killed for her, saved her when she was in trouble, and Dabi would do that a hundred times over if he had to.
A soft smile was on his face as he looked down at Keigo. The blonde was looking up at him, an equally soft smile on his face. They kept looking at each other as the movie played, Dabi slowly moving a hand to take one of Keigo's. He tightened the grip and his soft smile turned into a grin as he kept a hold of Dabi's hand, turning to watch the movie. Soji glanced over and nudged Azumi, motioning with his head over at the two teenage boys. When she saw their hands held, Azumi smiled and hugged Mila tighter, glancing at Soji to see he also had a smile on his face. Neither saying anything or making any moves to stop the two from being close.
After the movie, Azumu carried Mila to bed as Soji set the remote on the table for the two teenagers, mumbling about needing to sleep for tomorrow. Dabi looked at the remote and down at Keigo, seeing his eyes were closed and his grip a bit loose. He brought his other hand over to brush it through his hair, not moving to get up or change the channel. There were worse positions to fall asleep in, resting his head back on the sofa cushion and closing his own eyes.
The following morning, Dabi woke up first to find he was now laying on the sofa with Keigo curled up next to him, a wing sprawled across them both to keep them warm. Keigo was sleeping soundly, soft coo's as he exhaled in his sleep. When Dabi looked around the room, he saw more presents piled under the tree than there were last night. Azumi peeked over the sofa at them both and smiled as she took a picture, causing Dabi to blink at her. She kept smiling, a cup of tea in hand as she whispered. "You two look so cute." The healthy skin on his face flushed red as Azumi disappeared into the kitchen. Keigo yawned and stretched, starting to wake up at the close proximity of the feather in Azumi's locket.
They looked at each other and bright gold met tropical glowing blue as Dabi noticed the sleep in Keigo's eyes. "You can go back to sleep if you want." Dabi brushed some of the golden hair back causing Keigo to chirp happily. "I think I'm good right where I'm at. Did you sleep ok, Dabi?" The older teen nodded and stretched, careful of his sutures. They both heard a mixer going in the kitchen, obviously Azumi was mixing batter for something for breakfast. Keigo curled up against Dabi again and rested both wings over them. Now Davi ran his fingers through the bright red feathers, marveling in their softness as Keigo leaned a bit closer to his hands.
Soji finally walked from the bedroom being dragged by one hand by Mila. "Look! Santa left presents!" Keigo groaned because their calm had been interrupted as Dabi got up off the sofa and waved to Soji and Mila. "Morning." Mjla waved while smiling brightly as Azumi walked from the
kitchen. "Might as well open gifts before breakfast. I don't think Mila will be able to wait through breakfast." Nodding in agreement, Soji picked her up and sat her on the sofa next to Keigo who had sat up. "Let's see, looks like these are for Mila, this stack is for Keigo and Dabi, there's a bunch for you too." Dabi blinked, surprise evident on his face. "Uh, thanks." Keigo snickered at his face, but began accepting the presents as Soji split them up.
Mila got a number of toys, including a paint set from Dabi and a set of interlocking blocks from Santa. Keigo received some new shirts with holes for his wings, and a new set of sunglasses that looked like his flying glasses, only they were blue. He smiled at them, thanking Azumi and Soji, although his favorite gift was from Dabi. It was a small box wrapped in a newspaper, but inside was a simple white box. Inside was a multi set of earring studs. They were square shaped with blue crystals inside them, with a second pair of bat shaped studs and finally thin delicate silver feather studs. Keigo wasted no time putting them in his ears with a grin. Soji also pointed out he had new phones for both boys and Jin, which he would give them when they meet up with Jin later that day.
Soji was gifted with a travel mug and coffee mug set, Azumu received a homemade beaded bracelet from Mila, a new teapot from Keigo and a thin metal plated bookmark from Dabi. As she got to her gift from Soji, she took the wrapping paper off of a small velvet box. Her eyes softened as she opened it to find a delicate watch with pearl face and silver chain patterned band. She blushed as Soji gently helped to put it on her left hand, kissing the back of her hand as he looked in her eyes smiling. Keigo smiled wide at the two of them before looking at Dabi. "Come on man, you haven't opened anything." The dark haired teenager shook himself from staring at the adults and looked at his pile of presents. "Honestly, I wasn't expecting so many presents."
Keigo poked him with a feather and moved to sit next to him. "Well you have a bunch and we aren't having breakfast until you do, so hurry up." Dabi smirked and began to open them. He got a palm sized picture frame made by Mila out of popsicle sticks, a short dark blue fire resistant quirk jacket from Azumi to help keep him warm. Soji had given him a nice watch that wound itself with motion. It was also designed to resist heat temperatures as hot as Dabi's flames., which Dabi thanked him for. When Keigo handed Dabi his gift, Azumi and Soji exchanged a glance before herding Mila to the kitchen. Dabi watched them go, a questioning glance at Keigo whose face was already red.
"I hope you don't think it's presumptuous of me, but I wanted to get you something with meaning." Keigo spoke quietly letting the scarred man open the small box. Resting on a soft pillow was a silvery metal row of earring loops. They looked delicate with intricate designs engraved on them. Dabi blinked before pulling them out and realized they were tungsten steel. The swirls were tribal fire style designs, and there were four of them, enough to fill the earring holes on his right ear. He carefully took out his plain ones and replaced them with the new, cleaner ones. Once he was done, he leaned forward to look into Keigo's eyes. "Thank you, pretty bird."
Keigo grinned and looked from Dabi's eyes to his ear and back. "I'm really glad you are here for the holidays. It means a lot." Dabi's eyes darted towards the kitchen, noticing no one was peaking out and reached up to grab Keigo's chin. Surprising the blonde, he pulled the younger teen forward and kissed him gently on the lips. Keigo chirped at first and then closed his eyes, kissing him back until Dabi pulled away, hand still holding Keigo's chin.
"Thanks for having me, pretty bird. And Merry Christmas."
