I really wanted to get an ironic tone in this one, to showcase the Vikings misguided views. I even snuck a little line in there that really shows what Hiccup could have become if he continued down this path: just like Grimmel. I hope it doesn't go unnoticed ;D

Entry 36

According to legend, the Night Fury is the very offspring of lightning and death itself, an unholy monster that no one's ever even truly SEEN. If you do see the dragon with your own eyes… it's too late.

They say it has scales as black as the pits of Helheim, and evil eyes that glow in the dark. It's faster than any bola or catapult can launch, and the only way to tell where it even is is by the screech its wings make as they slice the air. Or, of course, by its fire. They say it shoots pure plasma, concentrated into slim bolts, but when it makes contact with something… the explosion is massive. Entire buildings destroyed in a second, with just one blast…

I remember the first time my dad told me about Night Furies. He said they come from a place called the Hidden World, like all dragons do, but even the other dragons in the Hidden World are scared of them. That's why dragons don't all just live in the Hidden World, because of how terrifying the Night Furies are. Even though they aren't the biggest dragon, there's just such a natural horror that comes with them, they may as well be alphas. (I think my dad said something else about real alpha dragons, but frankly, I was too scared to hear it…).

So, yeah, overall, Night Furies are the ultimate prize. I can't even imagine what people would say if I actually killed one… I'd be a hero! Maybe I could even hunt them, get every last one… I'd be the greatest Viking in history!

Also… I'd probably be guaranteed to get Astrid's affection…

But honestly, that's not what's most important. My top priority is getting my father's approval. Though, I admit, that would be a nice bonus…

Until next time…
