III - New Players

The following day, after we calmed down and told Brian and Mia about what we learned, Brian inserted the chip into a device with a touch screen monitor so that we can see what information there is on it that Reyes would want to stay in his hands.

"What do you think?" Mia asked him.

"Well, it's definitely a custom chip. Look at all these side menus here for data entry. Let's check this one." He said and touched Ultima Locals. It then scrolled a list of some kind.

"Look at that. Same building, same order every week." He then said.

"It's a delivery schedule." Dom defined it. It makes sense.

"What's this?" Mia was curious and pressed on Cargo Peso.

"Drugs?" She asked, not sure what the list said.

"No. That's a dealer pack. See, most major players, they weigh their money so they don't have to constantly count it. Right there, that's 49 kilos. 49 kilos is a million in twenties." Brian explained.

HOLD ON! If he's right, then… that's a lot of money.

"That means that each shipment is worth $10 million. And that means $100 million plus in cash houses." I pointed out, which made Mia wide eyed at this information.

"That's how he keeps it off the grid." Dom said, knowing the reason behind it all.

"I think it's safe to say that Reyes is smart to want this back. I mean, it's his whole network right there, just laid out on a chip." Brian stated.

We all then heard a sound of glass tinkling outside, meaning that someone's coming for us.

Brian took the chip and both me and Dom helped him and Mia up a window to escape, while me and him stayed and knocked some down with bullets.

Then we charged into different directions. I charged right through a window and rolled on the roof and then jumped onto another while avoiding some bullets.

I then ran and jumped in a straight line running as fast as I could and not looking back.

But then I jumped to a lower roof and when I did, I was tackled to the ground by someone and I didn't see who it was until I was on the ground and saw it was a woman, slightly older than me. She had long dark hair tied back and wore a tactical suit. I noticed she had the same coloured eyes as me.

However, the adrenaline in me made me energetic, so I kneed her in the stomach, knocking the wind out of her and then I pushed her off and kicked her back, making her fall back and giving me space to get back up and run as fast as I can.

I eventually got to the narrow alleyways and ran fast as I made sure I didn't bounce off the walls.

Some of Reyes' men found me and tried to shoot me, but their aiming was so bad which gave me a chance to beat the snot out of them and quickly as well, thanks to my martial arts training.

Once they were all down, I ran up some steps that led to a balcony that faced some roofs that would give me some distance from whoever that woman was. And side note, I was so drenched with sweat that it isn't even funny.

Anyway, I just got on the roofs when I heard gunfire behind me, making me look back and I saw that woman looking at me with a determined look. Bollocks!

I bolted for it and I saw a drop that led to a roof that would fall if something fell on top of it. I took the chance and jumped, and once I made contact, the roof fell apart from impact and I got up and ran into a sewer grate that went throughout the favelas. Now I hopefully gave that woman the slip.

While I crawled through the sewers, I came across Brian, Mia and Dom, glad to see they're okay.

We crawled further until we found an opening that opened up to the edge of the favelas, making us be able to stand up properly.

"They're going to be looking for the four of us together now. We need to split up." Dom pointed out. I saw Mia's expression and she didn't like the idea, more than likely because she doesn't want us to be separated while she's pregnant.

"You and Mia head south, David, you head west and I'll lead them away." Dom instructed us.

"No." Mia instantly shot the idea down.

"Dom's right. Look how lucky we just got. What happens next time? We have no choice but to split up." Brian went into protective mode on her.

"I'm pregnant." She suddenly announced. I knew it. Dom and Brian were utterly stunned to hear this news.

"I knew it." I muttered.

"You knew? Why didn't you tell us?" Brian rounded on me.

"It wasn't my place to tell you. And I only suspected when Vince told us about the job." I instantly told him.

"Look, I already lost my family once. I'm not going through that again." Mia stated in a stubborn way.

"Are you kidding me?" Brian asked her while holding her by the arms.

"No." She chuckled. Then they kissed and hugged.

"I'm not going anywhere, okay?" Brian assured her.

"Dom?" She then called out. I looked and he seemed to be thinking.

"Promise me we stick together." She begged her older brother. He looked at me and I nodded, agreeing with her. She needs her family with her right now.

"I promise." He agreed with a smile forming on his face as it did on mine. We all then hugged just so happy to hear that our family will grow.

"Our family just got bigger." Dom said, just happy at the idea that he will be an uncle. And I shed a tear knowing that I would be one as well.

After that beautiful moment, we stayed together and gathered some food and drinks and then around night, we found this abandoned warehouse that we would now use as a safehouse.

We let Mia sleep by herself in a room as the rest of us drank a beer and looked out over the balcony.

"Hey, what do you two remember about you dads?" Brian suddenly asked us. I guess it's because he'll be a father soon.

"All I remembered was him being drunk, treating me like dirt and wasting money on excess." I instantly answered in a bitter way looking back on my dad for the first time in years. I took a sip of my beer to help me be less tense.

"My father…. He used to…. He used to have a BBQ every Sunday after church. For anybody in the neighbourhood. If you didn't go to church, you didn't get any BBQ. Every single day he was in the shop, and every single night, he was at the kitchen table with Mia, helping her with her homework. Even after she went to sleep, he'd stay up for a few more hours so he could learn the next chapter and help her the next day." Dom told us about his father. I remember him telling me this after the first BBQ I had with him and the crew. I wished I had a dad like him.

"I remember everything about my father. Everything." Dom then finished.

"That's just it. I don't remember shit about my dad. I don't remember him yelling. I don't remember him smiling. To be honest with you, I don't even remember what the hell he looked like. I don't remember. I just… He was never there." Brian told us about his dad. And his face said it all. He was worried that he may end up like what his dad seemed to be.

"You ain't going to be like that, Brian." Dom told him.

"Yeah, you care too much for Mia to even come close to being like that. And that care will go to your child." I added my words of comfort to him.

All three of us looked at Mia. It was truly something to know she'll bring to life a human being.

"We can't keep running, you know." Brian said. Yeah, he's right. We need to do something about that.

"We gotta get out, and now." I agreed with him.

"You're both right." Dom of course agreed. He then pulled the chip out of his pocket.

"Here's how we're going to do it. We're gonna use this. We're going to do one last job. We're going to take all of Reyes' money. Every dime of it, and disappear. Forever." Dom explained. I agreed with this in every way. It can be a whole fresh start for us all.

"New passports. New lives with no more looking over our shoulder. And we're just going to buy our freedom." Brian listed off all that we can do.

"That's right." Dom backed it all up.

"You realise we're talking about going up against the most powerful guy in all of Rio?" Brian then asked.

"Yes, we are." Dom said. And I smiled, knowing how we'll do it. Not by ourselves, but with a little extra help.

"We'll need a team then." I smiled. And then I grabbed my phone that I have with me and called up the one person I know that will help us.

"Hello?" Her beautiful voice came through on the phone.

"Hey, beautiful." I replied.

Now, the woman that chased after David, I based her on Ayelet Zurer who played Faora from Man of Steel. She had a strong presence in that film and I felt she would be suitable for David. And we'll learn more about her later.
