The final battle against Thanos, in a lot of minds, turned out to be anticlimactic. Between surprising Thanos and all the planning, it was a matter of mopping up the leftovers after the first wave was dealt with.
Thanos had sent his people to go after the ones who were a thorn in his side, while he had been hoping to catch Loki unaware for his 'traitorous actions'.
What he hadn't expected was to find the pretty Shinigami next to Loki burst into laughter at his words of destroying the pest, the sound echoing in an odd way. Nor had he expected the same male to carefully break down his plans in the same tone before he had forced his Love to appear before them.
With time to plan, Ichigo had gotten a powerful seal created by the King to call her back to Earth to face justice. He had used the seal and allowed the Royal Guards to come get her to drag her back to the palace. Once Thanos had learned just who she had been, he hadn't been happy at being manipulated by the Milky Way galaxies version of Fate, and that anger had ended up being his downfall.
Ichigo did chirp after the fight that anger clouds one's judgment in a fight.
As Ichigo, Loki, Tony, Captain Marvel, Vision, Thor, Stephen and War Machine had worked on taking down Thanos, the Rogues were fighting next to the X-Men and Deadpool at one of the biggest portals, a last-minute change in the plans.
Every team fighting had a group of the Iron Legion to help fight and clean up after they had finished off their enemies. One of the suits that had been sent with each group was set to blow up the ship that was holding the portal open, taking it out of the game. Every group knew to get that suit through the portal one way or the other.
In the long run, the Rogues had shown that their training in fighting next to bigger groups than just them, which had turned out to be a good thing. That fact had some of their punishments lightened.
During the therapy sessions and just life in general, Steve had been forced to think about how the world worked in the current day and age after his trial and was working hard on the flexibility of his thinking. He found that he liked working next to Scott Summers and Logan, remembering the man from the second world war.
That new flexibility in his thinking allowed him to work with the group to help clear their part while the others had worked on finishing their fights.
The Guardians had gone through their own fight with their own smaller army of Iron Legions backing them up. Groot ended up controlling the one to go through the portal since they wanted to keep the small plant-based alien out of the way.
They ended being the first group to finish off their fight, waiting for the rest to either call them for backup, or to finish with their battles. While waiting, they had set about working with the Iron Legion with them cleaning the Chitauri bodies and weaponry up. While some of the fighting had been on the edge of Los Angeles, the buildings there sustained some damage, including two of the rather large houses that were there. Luckily for those who lived out there, they had gotten Act of God insurance since they had been damaged.
Luckily for the insurance companies, most of the damage was cosmetic.
The area that the X-Men, Deadpool and the Rogues had spread out over had ended up razed to the ground due to a giant whale that had been able to get through the portal. The owners of the warehouse had seen it go down on the news playing in the bunkers and had pulled out the paperwork to fill out their claims. No lives were lost, but a lot of merchandise that hadn't been moved had been lost. Along with the storage warehouses.
One warehouse had gone up in a pretty fire after it had been hit by a stray beam from the suddenly high Chitauri.
Wolverine's report on what it was like watching them get high on uncut, high quality meth had included descriptions of the time he had watched a rabbit hop around high until it stopped in it's tracks and fell over dead when drugs were being tested. They learned later that one had been tossed through a wall and ended up making the uncut shit puff up and spread out over it's companions. From there it had been spread by just them running around and being in the general area of the meth.
Logan sent his own thanks to Tony in the form of high-quality coffee that they had been given masks to filter things since they were in the area that they had been.
Later during the debrief, Steve had admitted to Remy that he couldn't understand the appeal of drugs and ruining their body. Remy had told him that it was an addiction that messed with a person's mind, and that no one really understood what it was like to be addicted until they had gone through it themselves.
Those words had started Steve on researching and learning all that he could about the drugs that were out there in the world between his usual day to day things.
In the end, the team that had the most issues had been the ones that went up against Thanos himself. After Ichigo had dealt with Fate, Thanos had been quite unhappy and attacked them in his rage. Even with only three of the stones on him, two of them hidden or well-guarded, and the sixth long hidden, he had been a hard foe.
They had worked together to take him down, but the area had been dented and destroyed.
Ichigo chirped that Loki had said the Titan had always liked making a flashy entrance where he could as they responded to his attack.
The ensuing fight had destroyed many of the buildings, which the city had just decided saved them on deconstruction bills later.
Loki had been thrown through a building but had been able to get up with the help of his brother. Tony had ended up with various cuts and bruises, his lover cursing and attacking Thanos with some of his stronger magics to distract him enough for Vision, Thor, and Stephen to power up the concoction of machine and magical construct that Stephen, Tony and Ichigo had created just for such an opening.
Bruce, on standby, had turned into the Hulk to toss Thanos into the way of Loki's and Tony's attacks, keeping him in a certain area. It had been rather interesting to see the giant green hero go against the Purple Titan and smack him around. The golden glove with the stones did leave him with some bruises and a broken nose, but he had walked away better than Thanos had in that fight.
When the machine had been fully powered, they used Ichigo's speed to toss it at Thanos and ran away when the Titan grabbed it, activating it. They had all been surprised that his hand had been left behind while the rest of him had turned to ash. Ichigo had mused that his wish to bring 'balance' to the world would have turned half of the population to ash.
Loki had just given him a look with tired eyes and asked what he meant by that. Ichigo told them that the things that had come from Urahara had been based on intent of the person that it was attacking and what would have happened if they had gone through. To know that those who would have been wiped out if Thanos had his way would have been ash made them shiver. Ichigo had walked over to the glove, wiggled Thanos' hand out of it, let it drop to the ground to turn to ash too, and then removed the stones.
No one had complained when Ichigo had set the stones into a box made of sekkiseki stone and closed it with a smile. His report stated that he had met with his Reaper contact who would take them to the ReiĆ to be returned to where they should have been in the first place.
For the most part, all those who participated came out in one piece outside of various bumps and bruises. The years of planning, training and resting had done only good things for them. Tony was babied, the Rogues were shown why it was a good idea to think like an actual team instead of thinking that they knew a person, the X-Men were hailed as heroes and became the face for mutant rights.
With the majority of the clean-up done by the Iron Legion, the construction companies started their rebuilding. The homes that were destroyed were rebuilt, jobs were re-opened and the cities of the world continued on with their lives. Even the Asgardian village started to find more and more success as they rebuilt their own homes.
Tony would like to know why Ichigo was giving Loki an amused look as the God tried to pull off cute and innocent though. He was worried about what the two were plotting but couldn't do a thing due to his ribs.
