Lord Voldemort advances on Harry.
Voldemort. You are at the threshold of your ultimate defeat. If you will not be turned, you will be destroyed.
The Dark Lord unleashes powerful blasts of crimson light at the defenseless young Auror.
Snape gets to his feet.
Young fool. Only now, at the end, do you understand.
He shoots more lightning at Harry.
Your puerile skills are no match for the power of the dark side.
Harry. Aaah!
Snape stands at the Dark Lord's side, conflicted.
Voldemort. You have paid the price for your lack of vision.
Harry screams in agony.
Harry. Father, please! Ow! Aaah! Help me!
Voldemort. He's my slave, not your father.
Voldemort intensifies his attack against Harry.
Harry. Aaah!
Voldemort turns off the lightning.
Voldemort. Now, young Potter, you will pay the price in full. You will die.
Voldemort unleashes his full power at the young Auror. Harry screams with pure agony.
Harry. Ow! Aaah!
Harry's clothes begin to smolder as his body involuntarily spasms. Snape watches with discomfort, aware that his son is close to death. As this idea reaches him, another thought occurs to him.
Snape. [aside] Not just my son . . . or Lily's son. But my son . . . who loves me.
In this moment, Snape realizes that he no longer cares about his own personal future. In spite of the many unconscionable deeds he undertook as a Death Eater, he cannot stand by and allow his son to die. In this moment, he remembers an Auror named Remus Lupin, who believed him to be the Chosen One of ancient Auror legend. And in this moment, Severus Snape no longer exists.
Auror Knight James Potter is reborn.
James. No.
James lifts the tyrannical Dark Lord into the air.
No!
James carries Voldemort over to the elevator shaft, and tosses him down.
As Riddle's mortal form is destroyed, his powers are temporarily broken. However, due to his mastery of the dark side, the Dark Lord's essence survives. It is transferred to the shadowy region of Albania . . . where he will await his eventual return.
His death is detected by Grand Admiral Maxwell Lazenby, who has been assisting the Dark Lord in his battle meditation over the Ministry troops. The Grand Admiral heads in the direction of throne room.
Meanwhile, a weakened Harry moves to his father's side and pulls James back from the elevator's edge. James's breathing is shallow, his suit irreparably damaged by his former Master's Cruciatus Curse attack.
From overhead, Sirius's spirit watches this with disbelief.
Ghost. [aside] Had I not witnessed Snape's action, I never would have believed it. Snape, the same monster that I left to die on Fiendfyre, risked himself to save his son. Now I know where I failed. For unlike Harry, I not only believed that James was completely consumed by the dark side, but actually refused to believe that any goodness could have remained within Snape. And by refusing to allow that possibility, I condemned not only my former friend but my own capacity for hope.
Exit all.
