Chapter 43: Only Getting Better
"Good morning, Your Majesty." A guard said.
"Umm...good morning…" Drew said unsurely.
It's Spring Break. Drew just flew on the magic carpet to the castle first thing when he woke up because May had texted him last night if he could do that. When he asked why, May just said that it's a surprise. He entered the castle doors and saw May, Kiara, Caroline, and Norman standing in front of the stairway talking. May noticed Drew walking towards them and she ran to him, wrapping her arms around his neck in an embrace.
Drew hugged her back. "Uhh...May? What's going on? Why did the guards at the front of the castle call me 'Your Majesty'?"
Kiara, Caroline, and Norman started walking towards May and Drew. May released Drew from the hug and smiled at him. "Because you're King, silly." She said, giggling.
"Say what now?" Drew questioned.
"King for a day." Norman said as they stopped in front of May and Drew.
"I'm still confused." Drew said. "You told me to come here to tell me that I'm King?"
"Yep!" May said excitedly. "Let me explain. Today is my parents' anniversary, so they're going to spend the entire day together during romantic things and stuff away from the castle, leaving me in charge. And since you're going to be King one day and I'm going to be Queen, we'll be doing everything my parents usually do while they're gone."
"It'll be a good experience for you both to know what it's like being the rulers of Hoenn." Caroline said.
"Ohh...I get it now." Drew said. "But if I'm going to spend the entire day here, I should probably call my parents and let them know."
"No need." May said. "I already told them and they said okay. You can even spend the night if you want."
"Really?"
"Yup." May answered. "And throughout the entire day, people will be calling you King Drew and they'll be calling me Queen May. That will also help us to get used to those titles for the future."
"Well...I think it will be easier for you to get used to that title since you've already had one for your whole life."
"You'll get used to it too." May said.
"We hope that the castle is being put in good hands." Norman said, staring directly at Drew with a serious face.
Drew saw Norman's stare and he gulped. May turned around and faced her parents. "Don't worry. It's in good hands." May said.
"Okay then." Caroline said. "We'll get going now. Good luck, you two. Kiara has a list of your schedule for the day." With that said, Caroline and Norman walked past May and Drew. They stopped at the door and turned back around. "I know we can trust you both to do everything on that schedule, right?"
May and Drew both turned around. "You can count on us!" May said.
Caroline and Norman exited the castle and they were soon gone in a carriage, having slight doubts that May and Drew can handle King and Queen duties.
"So...King…" Drew said.
"Yep." May said.
Drew faced May. "Couldn't you have warned me ahead of time that I'll be King for a day?"
May faced Drew. "Sorry about that. Truth is, my parents only told me yesterday about this as well."
"You guys will be fine." Kiara said. "You have me and Dahlia as well to help you guys stay on schedule."
"I guess I'll give Royalty a try…" Drew said.
"You're going to be Royalty in the future, so might as well give it some practice." May said.
"Oh boy…" Drew breathed.
May, Drew, Kiara, and Dahlia are in the Throne Room. May and Drew are in front of the two large thrones for the King and Queen. Drew is just staring at them.
May looked at Drew. "Are you okay?"
Drew looked at May. "Yeah. It's just...I'm...thinking about things."
"What kind of things?" May asked, sitting down on the Queen's throne.
"All of this." Drew answered, sitting next to her on the King's throne.
"What do you mean?"
Drew faced forward and looked up at the ceiling of the tall Throne Room. "I'm just having doubts that I'm actually...cut out for this."
"Royalty? But...you proposed. You know that if you marry me, you'd become King, so..." May said.
Drew looked at May. "Of course I know that, May. Please don't think that I didn't mean to propose. Because I did. But...I know how you say that you want to marry someone who really loves you not for the title, right?"
"Yeah…?"
"Well, when I made up my mind on proposing, I wasn't even thinking about our future as the rulers of Hoenn. Because all I cared about was that I'd marry you. Not you as Princess. But you as the love of my life."
May smiled.
"And now that I'm actually sitting on this throne...I'm just now questioning if...I'm ready for this." Drew said.
May reached over and placed her hand on Drew's. "It's only for a day. To see how we do. There's still more than 2 months until we become King and Queen for real. So just…" she smiled brighter. "Let me be the one who teaches you this time."
After a moment, Drew smiled. "I think that'd be great."
At that moment, a paper floated in between May and Drew, blocking their eyesight of each other. The paper was hovering in between them and was outlined in blue. May took the floating paper and the outline faded. May and Drew both looked at the person who was making the paper float in the air. Kiara.
Kiara put her scepter in her waistband. "Your Majesties, I think we should really start that schedule."
"Umm...right." May said. She stood up. "Come on, Drew." She said, turning around to face Drew. "Let me teach you a few things about being...a Royal." She held out her hand to Drew at the last part of her sentence.
Drew took May's hand and stood up. "Sounds good. Try to go easy on me though."
(This song is "Only Getting Better" by Jojo Siwa.)
May started leading Drew down the small stairway that leads to their thrones at the top and she hands the schedule to Kiara. "Another day in a crazy world." May sang. They started walking towards the Throne Room doors with Kiara and Dahlia following behind them. "Hanging on for another curve. Every bend, every twist can turn you round and round." The two guards at the doors opened them wide open. May and company exited the Throne Room and they started walking down the left hallway. "Holding on, it's a wild ride." May sang as two maids came up to them and offered them some tea, holding out teacups to May and Drew. "It's all new when you blink your eyes." May accepted a teacup and Drew accepted the other. The maids bowed and walked off somewhere. "Suddenly, everything inside feels upside down."
May and Drew took a quick sip of their tea. They looked at each other and smiled, Drew telling May that the tea was delicious. They continued walking down the hallway. "Don't matter what's up next." May sang. "Close my eyes and take that step." They stopped walking and handed their teacups to two maids that were next to them. "I'm ready for whatever, here we go!" They continue walking. May has a bright smile on her face while she sings and Drew is watching her as she shows him during the song some things that Royals do (like have maids).
"Oh woah." May sang. "It's only getting better." With every guard or servant they passed by, the servants and guards would bow to May and Drew. "Oh woah. Don't wanna catch my breath. We'll race through every open door." May sang as they stopped in front of two different maids who are holding up clothing items. Dahlia walks in front of May and Drew and takes the clothing items out of the maids' hands. "Find everything we're hoping for." Dahlia walked back behind May and Drew. Drew looked at May with a confused look that asks, 'What are the clothes for?' May just smiled and held up a finger, telling Drew to wait and find out. "As long as we're together, it's only getting better."
The maids stepped out of the way and the four continued walking down the hallway, making a left turn. "Another day, it's a mystery." May sang as Kiara pulled out her scepter and used its levitation power to take the paper in her hands and float it in front of May and Drew. "A million possibilities." May and Drew read a line on the paper and looked at each other. "Take a chance, it'll all be easier in time." The paper was levitated back to Kiara. May and Drew faced forward and were greeted on the side of May by people holding up clipboards with a single paper in them. May was given a pen from one of the guards. "Everyday is a new adventure." May sang as they continued walking down the hall and she put a checkmark on every paper that they passed. "Turn the page, it's a whole new chapter." May finished with checkmarking the papers and she gave the pen to the guard and the end. "Something great up ahead will make you feel alive."
May looked at Drew and took his hand. They smiled at each other. "I'm hoping for the best. Close my eyes and take that step. I'm ready for whatever, here we go!" Two guards opened 2 doors to the backyard and the four walked outside.
"Oh woah. It's only getting better." May sang as they walked to the greenhouse. "Oh woah. Don't wanna catch my breath. We'll race through every open door." May sang as she opened the greenhouse door. "Find everything we're hoping for." May and Drew just looked inside the greenhouse and didn't enter. Drew saw several Pokémon running around with smiles on their faces and he smiled at the sight. "As long as we're together," Drew looked at May. "It's only getting better." May closed the door.
May and Kiara both pulled out their scepters, faced each other, and tapped the scepters together, a bright flash appearing. In an instant, they all got teleported inside the castle and on the first floor in a hallway. "It's changing in an instant." May sang as makeup artists ran to them, spraying perfume on May. "And everything is different." The makeup artists then went to Drew and took out combs, combing his hair. May giggled on the inside at Drew's reaction to the stylers. He looked lost and confused and annoyed at the same time. May took Drew's hand and started pulling him, taking him away from the stylers. "But I'm ready for whatever. I'm ready for whatever!"
"Oh woah. It's only getting better." May sang as more guards bowed to them as they walked by. "Oh woah. Don't wanna catch my breath. We'll race through every open door. Find everything we're hoping for." May and Drew looked at each other. "As long as we're together, it's only getting better."
"Oh woah. It's only getting better." May continued. "Oh woah. Don't wanna catch my breath. We'll race through every open door. Find everything we're hoping for. As long as we're together, it's only getting better." They stopped walking in front of two large doors. May finished the song.
"Drew, I think it's a perfect time to show you what's behind these doors." May said. "Only the Royal Family and the Captain of the Royal Guards have keys to this room. It remains locked at all times and when I gave you and the gang a tour of the castle, I purposefully didn't show you guys this room, because of what's inside."
"What's inside?" Drew asked.
May waved her scepter around in the air. "Key!" The pink heart jewel glowed and a key appeared in front of May. She took the key.
"How'd you do that?" Drew asked, impressed, mouth slightly open.
"My Scepter told me recently that it's able to store small items inside of it." May answered. She put her scepter in her waistband. She turned to face the doors and she unlocked them with the key. "Ready?"
"Mm hm." Drew answered.
May opened both doors and they looked inside of the room, immediately laying eyes on piles and piles of gold and jewels. The room looked completely yellow from all the gold.
"Wow…" Drew breathed. "This is the Jewel Room…"
"Yeah." May said. She faced Drew. "But you can't tell anyone about what it looks like inside, okay? Promise me that."
"I promise." Drew said with a nod.
May smiled and closed the doors, locking them. She faced Drew again. "Now, I think it's time you change outfits."
"What?"
"You know...change into an outfit that screams 'King'."
"Uhh...do I have to?" Drew asked.
"Yes." May answered. "For me. Pretty please." May pleaded with her hands clasped together and she's batting her eyes.
Drew stared at May's pleading face for a while. ("Why is she so cute when she begs?") Drew thought. ("I wonder how far she'll beg if I say no…") A smirk started forming on his face.
May saw the smirk. "What are you thinking?" She asked cautiously.
"Just that I'm not going to wear King attire."
"But Drew…" May whined. "You'd look so cute in your King clothing that those maids gave us before."
"Not doing it."
"But-" May said, but immediately cut herself off. She knows what Drew wants or at least would say yes to. She sighed at the thought. "Fine. You leave me with no choice."
("Is she really going to do it?") Drew thought.
May kneeled down, hands clasped and eyes staring up into Drew's. "Please please please please please."
Kiara and Dahlia are staring at May with wide eyes. May would really go that far to get Drew to wear some King clothes?
Drew smirked down at his fiancé. "Well then." He paused before continuing. "I guess I better go change."
May smiled and stood up. "Great! Let's go!" She said, raising her scepter up firmly and teleporting them.
