Bittersweet
Chapter 52
A.N. As always I only own my own characters and the plot. Nearly there guys. God it's been emotional, all these years and I'm determined to finish this! It could have been better but where's the fun in that? Maybe 3-5 chapters to go I think. As always this is my Trish and Jeff fic but I can't help with the Punk/OC pairing too!
Amy stared at her reflection in the mirror. Her dress fit like a glove and as much as she despised Jeff's fiancée's fashion choices, she looked good. The cream colour of the dress complimented her skin tone and the fit of the dress – tight but not restrictive, showed off her figure.
"Are you ready?" Amy rolled her eyes at Beth's tone. Fixing a smile on her face she drew back the curtain.
Beth had to admit, as Amy stood next to the seamstress, she looked amazing. That was until her eyes fell upon the redhead's tattoo.
"Don't worry, I ordered the makeup." Amy lied, noticing the look she was getting.
Beth perked up, her smile beaming wide. "Great! I don't think we need to do anything alteration wise. You look beautiful in that dress Amy." Beth finished fully sincere.
Amy was taken aback, in all the time she'd known her Beth had never been nice to her. Well genuinely nice…
"Thank you." Amy replied smiling softly. "I can't wait to see you in your dress I bet you'll look stunning."
Beth blushed not saying anything back.
"I agree. You're a lucky girl. Not many brides or bridesmaids make their final dress fitting less than 3 weeks to their wedding and not need anything done." The seamstress added.
Amy grinned as she looked at herself once more in the mirror. "I guess I'm just lucky."
Beth's phone beeped interrupting them. Amy was taken back to the changing room.
"So…what's the plans for later?" Amy called as she changed out of her dress and back into her own clothes.
This snapped Beth from her message – Ryan, one of the male models she had worked with in the past had been messaging her the last few weeks and their messages has been getting more flirtier by the day.
"Oh…um I think me and Jeffy were gonna go grab lunch." She shut her cell and threw it into her bag.
Amy reappeared and smiled. "Sounds good, you mind if Mattie and I gate crash?"
Beth shook her head. I suppose we all need to try and get along here. "No sounds great! I'll just call ahead and change our booking."
As much as Trish was her best friend and she always had her back, Amy knew that she would need to try and be as civil as she could with Beth as she was almost a future Hardy now.
Alana had ordered everything the girls needed for Jeff's bachelor party. She had ordered a bridal inspired outfit for Trish – a white lacy halter neck corset dress with tutu skirt with matching stockings and suspenders. She had split the rest of them into bridesmaids and groomsmen.
Amy, Maria and Melina would be her "bridesmaids" – their attire would be dusky pink satin corsets with matching lacy shorts complete with stockings and suspenders.
She and Ashley would be "groomsmen" – they both would have the same outfits as the bridesmaids but theirs would obviously be black in colour.
Alana had even ordered a white long veil for Trish and got them all masquerade masks and black top hats for both herself and Ashley. Trish's mask was white and gold and had a long white Venetian feather. The bridesmaids ones were pink with a rose attached to the side complete with white and pink feathers. The black masks were lacy and had long black feathers attached to the side.
RAW was going to be in Boston the upcoming week so she figured the girls could come here and try their attire on and they could hang out. Her mum and dad were going to be out of town the weekend and Monday of RAW so there would even be space for them to crash if they wished.
Her phone beeped and she grinned when Amy had text her telling her she was glad the outfits had come in time and that she and the rest of the girls were looking forward to seeing her. She had put stuff away in her closet and smiled as she looked out the window at her parents who were sitting outside having breakfast since it was a nice morning.
She then was back looking at her phone. Her smile widened as she received another text, this time from Phil:
Hey Alana, can't wait to see you in a few days. We need to catch up. X
She hadn't replied and so far, surprisingly, she'd not heard anything about his current relationship status. She had spent most of the week training with her dad to keep her sane. She grabbed her cell and was about to text him back but stopped herself. I could call him. I know it's only been about 2 weeks but there's no harm in calling.
She felt butterflies in her stomach as she waited for him to pick up.
"I'm sorry but do I know you?" She could imagine the grin on his face right now.
"You're hilarious, they really should give you more airtime." She laid down on her bed smiling.
He chuckled and leaned back in his chair. "How have you been? Fucking stupid question but humour me."
"Auch…he loved how strong her accent was sometimes…I'm better." She sounded and felt it. "Honestly, I can't believe how caught up I was…I should have listened to my gut! There was clearly a reason why I hated him."
Phil sighed. "We all do stupid things."
Alana frowned. He sounds bitter. "I know but that doesn't make it right."
He was silent. So was she.
"I'm looking forward to you guys being in my neck of the woods soon." She wanted to rid this tension Mostly you.
"Yeah, I think we need to talk about things." He replied more serious this time.
Her stomach dropped. Fuuuck! They're getting a dog or she's moving in with him. Her irrational thoughts played up again.
"Yeah…" She began hoping she was as confident as she wished she felt. "We do." She paused before adding "How is Mickie? I genuinely – I'm not bullshitting you, I hope her injuries are healing well."
Phil let out a breath. Tell her the truth. Alana tried to keep it together. They are. It'll be a stupid fluffy thing called Princess.
"I think she's healing up well…I called things off with her on Monday night." Rip that bandage off Phil. Step one in the right direction.
Alana almost dropped the phone. "What happened? I thought you were getting on well." Her heart was hammering in her chest. I'm dreaming…I've fell asleep again.
Phil swallowed. "I wasn't 100% feeling it. I didn't want to hurt her any more than I probably have."
The double meaning was not lost on both of them.
"I'm sorry" Was all Alana could say. Her mum began shouting on her.
"Look, I'm sorry Phil. I feel like a cunt for this after what you've told me…my mum is…"
"No!" He cried out then slapped his hand as he sounded harsher than he meant to. "No…it's um yeah you better go." Smoooooth. Real smooth PJ.
"I'll see you…text me when you get here we could meet for dinner or something." She was still babbling. "Bye Phil!" She hung up the phone.
"Alana have you got tatties (potatoes) for ears? I was-" Her mother burst in and stopped noticing her daughter looking stunned and holding the phone like it was a leper or something.
"Are you all right hen?" Her mum frowned.
Alana leapt up, like a woman possessed. "Punch me."
"Excuse me?" Her mum's frown deepened. "What on Earth has gotten into you?" She added with a chuckle at her daughter's antics.
"I'm dreaming. I have to be."
Her mum walked closer to her and put her hands on her shoulder. "Do I need to admit you to a psych ward. You're acting like a complete numpty!"
Alana looked at her mum and smiled broadly "He's broken up with Mickie."
Realisation hit her mum who moved her hand to her face. She gently stroked her cheek. "You two honestly need your heids banged together! Right come down and get some breakfast." She smiled as she headed back downstairs.
Alana couldn't hide her grin but her stomach still felt fluttery. I need to tell him how I feel. I hope he feels the same. We can't keep doing this. I can't let the fear of losing him as a friend prevent us potentially moving further. Phil is my Jeff. I can't lose him again.
"I can't believe you won't give me any hints!" Matt whined as he passed Amy a beer.
She smiled sweetly whilst giving him the finger. They were sitting in a cosy booth in a quiet bar, across from their hotel. It was Thursday now and they'd checked in a few days earlier than planned in Boston.
"Good things come to those who wait Matthew." Amy teased before taking a swig of her beer.
He smirked at her. "I can't wait! Man Jeff's face will be a picture."
Amy smiled slightly. "I still can't believe this is real."
Matt's shoulders dropped and he reached across and stroked her hand. She entwined her fingers in his.
"I know, I just always felt like Jeffro and Trish were meant to be." Matt sighed.
Amy chuckled. "Remember during the Alliance storyline? I couldn't stand Trish! But the more I worked with her, I realised she was cool and how her and Jeff clearly liked each other. I can't believe it took him another year to ask her out!"
***2001***
Trish studied her outfit in the mirror for Smackdown that night and smirked she looked good! She wore a short, revealing black tank top with matching black hot pants. She wore her signature long thigh high black heeled boots. She was getting ready for her match with Amy against Torrie and Stacy.
Speaking of Amy, the two women previously never saw eye to eye. Amy was always making comments about Trish who, had no problem getting in the redhead's face. Both of them had started as valets, something Trish felt that Amy forgotten about. However, the last few months had caused the two women to work closer together as the WWE was "fighting" the ECW/WCW Alliance to become the number 1 wrestling company in America. It had also brought her and Jeff closer together.
Trish blushed when she thought of the younger Hardy. He was unbelievably hot but what awed her was his talent – how he perfectly executed each move and took death defying risks. He also never judged her for her looks or made comments about her.
"You realise the more you stare at yourself, the mirror won't tell you how good you look?"
Trish grinned and turned to Amy who smirked at her. It was amazing that now they could laugh and joke about things like this, whereas before, they'd have to be pulled apart.
"So you do think I look good?" Trish teased.
Amy chuckled and roll her eyes.
"Hey you look hot too girl! We gotta show Torrie and Stacy who's boss!"
Torrie and Stacy were two of the Alliance's hottest female wrestlers but both women were the nicest you'd meet. It was a running joke between the 4 of them who was the hottest.
"I can't believe we have a paddle match." Amy said in disgust.
"I know." Trish sighed. "I just feel I'll never be taken seriously."
Amy smiled sympathetically. "I feel you. We work just as hard as the men and we deserve to showcase that talent!"
"Maybe one day we'll main event for a title match." Trish grinned.
Amy beamed and her cell phone interrupted their conversation.
"All right Trish! Grab that paddle its show time!"
After the show, the four were walking back to the locker room. Jeff and Trish were in front laughing and joking. Jeff couldn't believe how good Trish looked. Amy and Matt trailed behind just watching them.
"Bet you $20 Jeff asks Trish out." Matt teased.
Amy grinned at him. "He won't. He's too scared. He can jump off 20ft ladders but he won't ask her out. I see how he looks at her and it ain't all for the cameras."
"See that's where you're wrong, I'm telling you, he likes her and not just as a friend."
"I still can't believe that me and Trish are friends now. I kinda feel like an asshole for being so mean."
Matt pulled her close and kissed her temple. "Look, you both felt threatened by each other and you love Jeff, I get it. You just don't want to see him hurt."
Trish's laugh and her punching Jeff in the arm - much to the purple and blue haired man's delight stopped them.
"You do realise the cameras have stopped rolling now." Matt hollered.
Jeff rolled his eyes at his brother, Trish blushed but smiled as they stopped outside the Women's locker room.
"Smart ass." Jeff muttered with a smile.
"So, parking lot in 20?" Amy raised a brow as she pushed open the door.
"You better hurry your asses up or we'll go without you." Matt teased as the two men walked back to get their belongings.
Later that night, the foursome sat in a pizza restaurant in New York. It was late so not too busy and they were in a booth at a quiet corner where they wouldn't be disturbed just enjoying each other's company.
Little did Amy know in a few months, she'd be $20 short.
***2002***
"See! Ha! I told you!"
It was exactly 6 months since Matt bet Amy about Jeff and Trish.
Amy threw a pillow at him. They had just checked into their room for the night. "How can you even remember that stupid bet?"
Matt pretended to look hurt. "Are you saying you don't remember all our conversations? I thought you loved me!"
Amy rolled her eyes and squealed as he threw his pillow at her.
"You are so dead Matthew Moore-"
The hotel room door opened cutting them off. Jeff appeared a smile on his face. Amy rushed over and hugged him.
"How was it? Did you pay for dinner? Did she? Did she wear the black dress? Was it awkward?" Amy babbled.
Matt laughed as did Jeff. "Baby, you sound like a ten year old girl."
Amy ignored him. "Matt you get the details! I'm going to see Trish! I'll be back later."
The hotel room door closed. The room was a suite, there was a larger double bedroom and a small single bedroom adjacent to the main room with its own bathroom. .
"So…will there be a second date?" Matt slyly asked as he sat on the bed.
Jeff had moved from the door to the seat next to the desk in their bedroom.
"Yeah…I really like her Mattie. I hope so."
"Make sure you text her to say goodnight and when you see her next, tell her about the second date."
Trish was on cloud nine. The date had went well despite her initial nerves. Amy had near enough broke the door down. The two women were sitting on Trish's bed.
"Aw it was just perfect Ames! He was such a gentleman – not that I expected anything less!"
"So…did you two…" Amy trailed off her smile widening at Trish's red face.
"I knew it!" Amy squealed. "I'm so happy for you both." She added sincerely.
Trish beamed at her. "It was amazing. I'm really happy. I hope he had a great time. I'm glad we put all that stupid bitchy shit behind us Amy."
Amy squeezed her hand. "Me too and believe me, I'm not just saying that, I guarantee there will be a second date!"
Trish grinned and the butterflies that had been in her stomach were still there. She was about to reply when her cell broke the silence.
Amy watched her friend like a hawk as she read the text – how her eyes lit up.
"He said I had a great time tonight Trish, good night and see you in the morning. He even put 3 kisses! Oh! Wait! I can't reply now? I don't want to seem too eager? Do I?" Trish bit her lip making Amy cackle at her antics.
"What is this middle school? Just tell him how you feel!"
Trish shook her head, feeling silly about how she was acting. She typed her reply and then put her phone down.
Amy chuckled softly and then got off the bed. "Can you be trusted not to gaze lovingly at your cell all night?"
"Ha, ha." Trish rolled her eyes as she got up and walked her to the door. "I promise I'll leave it till morning. I'm beat. The excitement has caught up with me."
"So, breakfast tomorrow then shopping?"
"You know it and who knows maybe we can find my second date outfit tomorrow."
Jeff was in his own room, he had changed to his sleeping attire – his boxers and grinned as he looked at her text again.
Hey, I had a great time too Jeff, sweet dreams and see ya tomorrow xxxx
As he drifted off to sleep he kept replaying their kiss over and over in his mind…
