"You are bringing Liz outside?" Shining asks, "Where are you going?"

Lin Yie smiles helplessly, "She really wants to come to watch me train."

"Oh really? So you train every night," Shining nods, "That's good."

"How is that good? Help me convince her to stay in her room."

"Why would I?" Shining shakes her head, "If Liz wants to do something, just let her do it."

Lin Yie is left speechless.

He had been turning Nightingale down over and over again, but no matter what he said, she just kept asking. In the end, he gave up.

Well, it may be because he had no experience in turning girls down, or the thick skin necessary to do so. He actually worried about hurting her feelings.

After all, he never got any confessions from girls in the past, so he just couldn't bring himself to risk his relationship with her.

The pain of being a virgin for twenty plus years…

Liz has been changing in her room, so Lin Yie stepped outside to wait for her. That's how he saw Shining coming.

Shining looks up at the ceiling, "This is great."

"What is?"

"The Liz right now," Shining says softly, "Do you know what she was like before coming here?"

"Pretty bad, like the first time I met her?"

"No, it was far worse than that," Shining looks at him, "You know what she likes to eat, right?"

"Pineapple buns."

"Uhm, yes," Shining asks,

"But do you know why the cafeteria only sells pineapple buns in the morning?"

Lin Yie pauses.

That's right. Why didn't he think of that? With Shining and Nearl's status, they should easily be able to arrange for the chef to make a specific food available all day. If it were him, he would ask the cafeteria to make pineapple buns available all day long. It might even help Nightingale's treatment.

Lin Yie shakes his head, "No, I don't."

"Liz was in really bad shape," Shining says,

"Even if Dr. Kal'tsit and I took turns staying by her side, and giving her our undivided attention, we still wouldn't have been able to keep her alive."

"You mean…"

Shining says, "If Liz ever gave up of her own will, even a god wouldn't have been able to save her. She couldn't even remember who she was, let alone listen to us. Fortunately, we discovered by accident that Liz really likes sweet food, especially pineapple buns. Maybe it's because she never had sugar in the past."

Lin Yie finally understands why the buns are only available in the morning.

"It's as you thought, Liz used sweet food, or rather, pineapple buns to stay alive," Shining says softly,

"We couldn't tell her to keep struggling, so we told her the pineapple buns are only available in the morning. Since then, Liz has been fighting her battles to be able to eat those buns, and because of that, we have been able to suppress her symptoms. It's funny, right? This kid only needs sweets to keep struggling."

Lin Yie is silent, as he goes over what Shining just told him, before shaking his head, "Liz… is really strong."

Shining nods, "She is, although she only managed to remember there are pineapple buns in the morning and the sales on Wednesdays and Fridays."

Lin Yie smiles, "Really?"

Before Shining can answer him, Nightingale walks out the door and sees Shining and Lin Yie together. She tilts her head, "What were you talking about?"

Lin Yie, making one last effort, says, "There are pineapple buns in the cafeteria tonight."

"Really? I'm not going with you then."

Shining chimes in, "He's lying. The cafeteria is already closed."

"Then, I will watch Pineapple Bun train."

Lin Yie sighs.

Shining chuckles a bit, before righting Nightingale's lopsided hat, "Have fun, Liz."

"I can go?"

"Of course, do as you please."

Nightingale nods.

"Then, I'll let you take care of Liz, Dr. Lin." Shining pushes Nightingale toward Lin Yie.

Lin Yie scratches his head. He can't just say, "Of course, auntie, I will take care of your daughter." That sounds ridiculous.

Nightingale whispers, "Pineapple Bun, is the cafeteria really closed?"

Lin Yie nods.

Yato has been waiting for Lin Yie to show up, but when she finally sees him, she's really surprised.

"Why is Nightingale here?"

"Umm, she wants to watch me train," Lin Yie smiles weakly,

"That should be fine, right? She'll just sit on the bench there."

Yato raises an eyebrow and nods, "Sure."

Lin Yie brings Nightingale to the side. Nightingale asks, "Can you beat her?"

"No, I can't."

"Why?"

"I'm still new to this."

"Do your best," Nightingale encourages him,

"I believe in you."

Please don't. You'll just be disappointed

Lin Yie nods before going back to Yato.

Yato unsheathes her sword and points it at Lin Yie.

Yato said that tonight's plan is to practice the basics. It's boring, but at least he won't get his ass kicked in front of Nightingale.

So he asks lightly, "What are we doing tonight?"

Yato looks at Lin Yie and Nightingale. After some thought, she gets into her fighting stance.

Lin Yie is stupefied.

The heck? What happened to the plan?

Lin Yie purses his lips. There's nothing he can do.

"Alright." He takes a deep breath and grips his sword tightly,

"Here I come!"

Unexpectedly, Yato's movements are far more sluggish than they usually are.

After a few exchanges, Lin Yie is sure that Yato is not going all out. She is actually holding back. His experience from previous training sessions tells him that this should have ended a long time ago.

Eventually, Lin Yie's fight with her passed its ten-minute mark. He even manages to spot a sudden opening.

After some hesitation, he decides to take the opportunity and attacks.

To his surprise, his sword is able to touch her shoulder.

Yato lowers her sword, "I lost."

Training is over.

As she walks past Lin Yie, Yato whispers, "Just this once, be her hero."
