When Yato is gone, Nightingale runs up to Lin Yie and cheers, "Pineapple Bun is so strong!"
Her praise sounding so sincere, that it catches him off guard.
He was actually ready to lose…
"Uh, no, not at all," Lin Yie looks away from her and mumbles half-heartedly, "Yato wasn't serious."
"What did you say?"
He sighs, "Nevermind. I'm done here. Let me walk you back."
Nightingale shakes her head, "But I don't want to go back."
"Then what do you want to do?"
So annoying…
"I want to eat pineapple buns."
"Didn't Shining tell you the cafeteria is closed?"
"Then, when can I go?"
"Tomorrow morning," Lin Yie says,
"This time, I'll definitely wake up early."
He decides at that moment, that even if it means not getting any sleep, he will be there to knock on her door, first thing in the morning.
"But…" Nightingale shakes her head,
"I want the other Liz to try pineapple buns."
Lin Yie stops in his tracks.
He asks, "Can you feel her presence?"
"Sister Shining said we share the same past," Nightingale says,
"We were both trapped in a very dark, very tiny place. There was no one, and we couldn't hear anything."
"Like this," She closes her eyes and waves her hands around,
"It's really dark. I can't see anything."
"You're speaking nonsense."
"When I open my eyes," Nightingale looks at him,
"I see light and Pineapple Bun. I see you."
She looks into his eyes, "Pineapple Bun, can you help her?"
Lin Yie pauses, at a loss for words.
"If it's you, I know you can do it."
He asks, "Why me? I'm just an ordinary person."
Nightingale says with confidence, as if the answer were obvious, "Because you are Pineapple Bun."
"For the millionth time, my name is Lin Yie."
And for the millionth time, Nightingale ignores him.
Lin Yie sighs in defeat, "What do you want me to do?"
Nightingale grabs his sleeves and speaks softly, "Pineapple Bun, open her eyes. Let her know this world has light."
Half an hour later, Ansel hears the door open.
"You came back early tonight," he says, eyes never leaving his book, "Dr. Kal'tsit just called you."
Lin Yie puts his shoes down, "Dr. Kal'tsit called me?"
"Um," Ansel says, "She wants you to immediately call her back upon your return."
Lin Yie looks at the clock, "It's almost midnight."
"Do you think Dr. Kal'tsit sleeps at this hour?"
That sounds about right.
Lin Yie picks up his phone and dials Kal'tsit's number. In less than five seconds, he hears Kal'tsit's cold voice on the other end, "Dr. Lin?"
"Um, it's me."
"Can you tell me why you brought Liz outside?"
"Uh… That was an accident. I won't do it again."
"No need to promise," Kal'tsit says, "Just keep doing it."
"What?"
"You have my permission."
Lin Yie is really surprised, "What? Didn't you tell me… Was it Shining?"
Kal'tsit is silent for a while, before breaking it with a sigh, "No, it was Liz."
