'Ello, luv.
Kept ye in the dark a bit, di'n't I? But just 'tween us, did ye know it all 'long? Or did I manage to pull some wool over yer eyes? I hope it weren't a disappointment. Maybe ye were rootin' for me to pick a side with Karnage? Ah, but I woulda loved for 'im to've been there, ye know. To 'ave added a real pirate to me numbers from the start. No worries, though; I'll catch up with 'im in a shake.
Yer not askin' WHY are ye? Oh, heavens, luv. I saw enough trees in me life to know we had enough timber to provide shelter for one an' all. Yet we're left homeless. I've seen enough crops growin' an' fish swimmin' to know that the world can provide feasts for every mouth. But we're left to starve. I've seen the plants growin', an' plenty of people gifted with the smarts to turn 'em into medicine. But the sick are left ignored. We build grand castles and paint portraits, strike up melodies and write poetry, an' pretend we're something more significant than the ants we stomp on, but… we've never quite gotten beyond bein' spiders and flies, 'ave we. The eaters an' the eaten. That's all we are.
Well, what about yer own place, any better?
What, now? Nothin' to say? Oh, don't pretend ye don't know I'm talkin' to ye. I know yer there, far away from me now, but ye hear me voice in yer head. Ye hear it without hearin', don't ye, spoken in ― ah, I don't even know what this means, tell ye the truth, but I sense it true, like a vision ― ye hear me speakin' in electric words, glowin' on the skin of yer face. Ain't that somethin'.
Oh, don't be surprised. Spend as much time as me lookin' into the Dark, an' ye can see where the Dark goes a-wanderin'. Best believe, it's a-wanderin' near yerself, quiet as a mouse, watchful as a hawk. It sets its feelers out from beyond our stars an' yours, 'ungerin' for a bite o' life. But it can do bare naught on its own, ye see. That's the beauty of it. It requires a peculiar type of hate an' cruelty to get the ball a-rollin'. An' me? I'm rollin' me a ball.
An' yerself? Like I said… hate an' cruelty. Don't know quite what's poppin' in yer neck of the woods, but… stuck yer head out the door lately? Oh, but the wickedness ye greedy bastards bestow upon yerselves, it must be ravishing! An' yerself, do ye ever feel, as I did once, that desperation to 'ave all that cruelty ended? To end all the misery we can't 'elp but to put ourselves through? Well that's where I come in, luv. To end it all.
Yes, luv. I'm talkin' to ye. Just want ye to know it. Want ye to know we're going to 'ave an amazin' adventure together, ye 'n' me, cozy as a pod of a pea 'n' a pea. Just ye sit tight, way things are goin' we're bound to catch up with each other. It'll all be Dark soon, but don't worry. I'll be there.
Leave a light on if it makes ye feel better.
