It was still hours until dawn. The darkness and silence aided the intruder as they stole through the night, passing through the border completely unnoticed by anyone and traveling from shadow to shadow. They were clearly experienced. The intruder effortlessly moved from one cover to the next, disappearing into night, only to be seen again for a brief moment as they made their way to the next hiding place.
Within minutes, they were within reach of the cabins, and not one camper had been woken up. Only Connor Stoll was awake, and that was only because he hadn't been able to fall asleep. If anyone was going to discover the impostor in their midst, it would have to be the son of Hermes.
The shadowy figure had a clear destination in mind. They were soon in the shed behind the Hermes cabin, somewhere that was jealously guarded by the cabin eleven residents. For some reason, they were able to effortlessly pass all the defenses, as if they knew where they were beforehand. But there wasn't one Hermes camper that would reveal that information...at least, not for free.
The only noise in the night was the soft click as the last barrier between entering the shed that housed all their pranking supplies was passed: a padlock. Not even everyone in the cabin knew the passcode. Whoever was behind the break in was a professional.
But the click was all it took to alert Connor. As quietly as possible, he managed to pull on some sweatpants and a hoodie before sneaking out the cabin. The door scraped the floorboards - by design, to warn anyone sleeping inside that someone was entering unauthorized. Connor exited the cabin through the window that his bunk was strategically placed underneath, noiselessly popping out the screen and slipping into the night air.
His heart was beating out of his chest in what he was certain must be an audible sound to the intruder, but the adrenaline pumping through him kept him moving forward to investigate who, or maybe even what, was in the shed.
The entrance had been left open. Sloppy. But all of their traps had been defused. Connor winced, internally. They would take forever to set back up, especially because they couldn't be at all conspicuous about it, lest anyone get any ideas about an easy robbery, or worse, the Athena and Hephaestus kids send someone to observe and find out how they were set.
The figure was dressed all in dark colors, their back to the door. Even more sloppy. Whoever it was, for all their sneaking, apparently didn't know proper heist protocol. Connor relaxed a little. Whoever it was, they shouldn't be hard to sort out.
He leaned against the doorframe. "What are you up too?"
"Hello, Connor." The intruder, whom Connor judged to be male, didn't even turn stop packing his stuff into their duffel bag!
"Alright, enough being nice. Who are you and why are you touching my stuff."
"It's my stuff actually."
"Ha ha, finders keepers and all that. I'm sure. Were you really trying to steal from a son of Hermes? Who are you?"
"No, I think I just mean it's mine." He turned around, revealing a face almost identical to Connor's own. "And really, Connor, you didn't recognize me? I'm hurt."
Connor narrowed his eyes. He was happy to see his brother, sure, but his brother was also stealing his stuff. "I hope you know how much work you've given me, taking out all of our defences."
"Not even a, 'Wow, bro, it's been months since I've seen you, how have you been?'"
"Not likely. I don't like being up in the middle of the night. And this was the worst heist I've ever seen. You're slipping. It's embarrassing, Travis. Not even a sentry?"
"Or are you slipping?"
Connor's eyes widened in realization. Travis was too smart to have tried to pull this alone, there had to be someone else here that -
Too late did he understand the magnitude of his mistake. Vines of ivy had snaked their way along the ground, tying down his ankles, and crawling up his legs to adhere and fasten his wrists as well.
His brother's girlfriend stepped out of the shadows from behind him.
"Hello Connor."
"Katie. I should have known."
"Yeah. You really should." she said, moving to stand next to Travis.
"Honestly Connor? She makes a pretty good partner in crime. Almost better than you."
"Centaur shit."
Katie rolled her eyes. "And you accept your defeat with such grace. I'm just a little but better than you, Connor." She planted a kiss on Travis's cheek. "Here's what's going to happen. Travis and I are going to take what we want from the shed, and you're going to forget this ever happened."
"And why should I do that?"
"Um, because I have an amazing girlfriend with enough ivy to hold you down indefinitely?"
"...fine."
"Perfect." Travis went back to rummaging in the shed while Katie kept an eye on their prisoner. Soon enough, he had everything he wanted. "Ready to go?"
"Yes please." Connor said. "Please go."
"And here I thought you'd be happy to see me. See ya later, Connor."
"Bye Connor! Thanks for making this so easy!" Katie said with a wave.
The two receded into the night, and the ivy holding him down did the same. As he slipped back into bed, Connor thought, Maybe I should think about getting Miranda on my side.

Shout out to propheciesandbluecookies (brilliant name by the way) for following and favoriting!
LilBumkin - yeah, that one was kinda angsty. But I like writing it, so maybe that means that my soul is...dark….such is life. See you tomorrow for the last day of Fic-mas until I disappear until like...January…
Guest I Guess - because I am mean, I guess! Thank you! Yeah, being super serious with these is weird to me, but I like it just as much as writing fluffier stuff. I found that I've been asked to write an oddly large amount of Hera fics, so I've humanized her, to myself at least, out of necessity. Every. Single. Person. It gets on my nerves. Yup yup. I haven't reread HP in forever and a half, but I'm not a huge fan of RonxHermione or HarryxGinny (of course the movies might have tainted my opinion on Ginny as a character because I loved book-Ginny) but I do kinda like Harmione, which is another smart love interest trope thing.
Fairyn - ummmm...there's no such thing as a crappy review. See you tomorrow! Pandas!
Have a lovely day!
