Chapter 44

Author's Note : The journey isn't over yet. Thank you my readers. Review!

Tree Hill Hospital

"How many moments in life can you point to and say: "That's when it all changed"?

What was more satisfying.? watching Darren Stevens get placed in a cop car. Or watching Mitchel get lead out of the hospital with his bruised face and on crutches. Neither. It all felt fair and somehow balancing the scales. Them being brought to justice meant my family and the town as a whole was safer.

I could breath and sleep somewhat easier now.

"Thank you for staying with her." Brooke said. Looking to Karen.

"It's what family does dear." Karen replied.

"The doctor reached out to me. There was some kind of situation earlier but Lucas is stable now. Not only that. But he's awake." Brooke revealed.

"You should go in first mom." Rosemary stated.

"The rest of us can take turns afterwards." Kennedy said.

Brooke nodded her head and left them in the trusted care of Karen.

Lucas's Hospital Room

Brooke made her way inside slowly. She wrapped her arms around herself. Trying to prepare her mind and heart. Her mind raced. Could he speak.? What would he remember.?

When she got to the hospital bed.

She felt at ease just seeing him. With color in his face and a smile.

"I've missed you." He said. His voice soft.

Brooke felt herself begin to unravel emotional.

She wanted to run into his arms. And fall apart. Yell at him for scaring her like this. She wanted to glue herself to him. So they would never be apart again.

"I love you so much." Brooke stated.

"I love you too. I'm sorry for putting you and the kids through all of this." Lucas said.

"You have nothing to apologize for. You came back to us. All that matters now is you recovering and coming home. But before you get too comfortable. I want to get married. Here. Now." Brooke stated.

Lucas looked back at her with with an expression of surprise on his face.

Outside in the hospital courtyard

"Thank you for coming forward and letting go of all those secrets you held on too. I owe you my freedom and my brother's." Ryan said.

"No you don't. It was the right thing to do. They needed to be stopped. They destroyed enough lives. I couldn't stand by and lose someone else i care about again." "I mean. You're family has been through enough already. It's time for some calm and boring. I hope that happens." Astrid said.

"I appreciate you saying that. For putting yourself out there. I care about you too." Ryan said.

"I'll be up case you want to talk." Astrid said.

"You may get a call or text from me later tonight." Ryan said.
