"Ok, don't freak out," Deeks started as Kensi pushed through the curtains of his assigned cubicle.

"I got a call, from Callen no less, saying you were at the hospital. There is no way I'm not freaking out," Kensi replied, giving him a quick once over. "What happened?"

Deeks sighed and shifted awkwardly on the narrow, uncomfortable hospital bed, careful to avoid the stack of ice packs surrounding his left arm.

"I got thrown off a balcony and broke my wrist."

"You broke what?! Wait, did you just say you got thrown off a balcony?"

"Just my wrist. Don't worry, I'm okay," he assured her as she shifted the top ice pack. She just barely touched the red, swollen skin of his lower arm and he couldn't quite contain a pained hiss.

"Oh my god, Deeks," she whispered. "I thought you were prepping for a civil case, how did you get thrown off a balcony?"

"I was." He shifted again, trying to find a comfortable position. The pain somehow seemed to be radiating throughout his body. "It was supposed to be a simple divorce case. I met with the client at her house to go over some of the forms. And then her soon-to-be ex walked in. He saw us sitting at the table and I guess he assumed I was her boyfriend or something. He was kind of shouting like a maniac so it was hard to tell."

"And he just attacked you?" Kensi asked, sounding outraged. The guy was probably lucky he was already in police custody. Deeks scratched at his jaw with his left hand, trying to recall the exact sequence of events.

"No, first he started throwing punches. I was worried he was going to hurt my client so I tried to get him away from her. Unfortunately, I just so happened to end up on the balcony which he then threw me off of," he explained, letting his head flop on the pillow with a dull thud. "Did I mention he was built like the hulk? Like Sam would have looked tiny next to him."

Kensi shook her head, looking even more upset that when she came in.

"You could have been killed," she whispered.

"Fortunately, there were a bunch of bushes that broke my fall. So I think I got off pretty lucky with just a broken wrist." Shaking her head, Kensi ran her fingers through his hair and let out a shuddery sigh.

"That sounds exactly the opposite of lucky."

"Oh, and I think I might have a bruise the size of Texas on my butt. So if you wanna check that out, I won't complain," he offered and Kensi rolled her eyes at him. She leaned in to kiss him and pulled back with a gentle smile.

"I'll be happy to check out any bruises you want when we get home," she promised.

"Hm, that might make getting a broken wrist almost worth it." Kensi rolled her eyes again.

"You are an idiot." She was quiet for a few minutes and then murmured, "Going back to law was supposed to be safe."

"Yeah. I guess this is just a sign that I need my favorite ninja assassin by my side to protect me," Deeks suggested with a hopeful grin.

"Maybe it is," she agreed.

"Sweet. I've always wanted a sexy bodyguard."

"But that doesn't mean I'm wearing leather."

"Damn."
