I know it took me longer than I had expected to write another chapter, but thank you for all your nice comments and your support :)

"I'm so happy that you found such a wonderful and amazing woman like Rory Logan. I have never seen you so satisfied and full of joy. She brings out the best in you," Mitchum cleared his throat as they sat in a comfy spot in a small bar in Manchester after an eventful day at the zoo.

"Yeah, me too, dad. I know I hurt Odette, but it was the best decision in my life that I ended our relationship. She wasn't the right woman for me. I know that for sure now. But how are you doing, dad? I mean, I haven't seen you for a long time." Logan nodded and was looking at his father.

"Don't worry about me, Logan. I had a checkup appointment with Dr. Sellers before your mom, and I flew to London. According to Dr. Sellers, there is no sign that the cancer is back, which I owe in part to my new healthy lifestyle, but please don't tell your mom I had a scotch today!" he said, grinning at Logan. "Sometimes she drives me crazy with her overprotectiveness, but I have to admit, the cancer did bring us closer." Mitchum chuckled, and even if he didn't like to admit it, it touched him that Logan was still worried about him and his health.

A few years ago, Mitchum never imagined in his life that he and his son could have a conversation without arguing or blaming each other. Mitchum went through challenging times with Logan.

It all started in 1993 when Mitchum's father, Elias, retired and handed the company over to his oldest son. Through the following years, Mitchum tried everything humanly possible to impress his father. But it was at the expense of his relationship with his son. Logan became more distant towards him without him noticing it. Logan's behavior became extremely rebellious until Mitchum lost patience and sent him to various boarding schools. It was a desperate attempt to mend things and set his son on the correct path that he would always carry guilt over.

"Dad, are you okay?" Logan's voice snapped him out of his thoughts.

"Yeah, sure, I've been thinking about a lot of things lately, Logan… our relationship in particular. So much went wrong back then, and I know that a lot of those escalations wouldn't have had to be if I had been more attentive to you. Had I shown you more respect and attention, things could have been very different. I'm sorry that I was such a shitty father to you." Mitchum sighed and looked away. His thoughts wandered from Logan to his daughter to his granddaughter. He was grateful for the second chances he had been given. He knew he didn't deserve them, so he did not intend to squander the opportunities.

He smiled and looked at Logan again. Then he continued, "I hope… scratch that… I know that you will not repeat my mistakes with your children. You will be a better father to your children than I was to you."

"Wow..um, dad, I honestly don't know what to say to that. That's the second time you've surprised me today. But I'm going to give everything I have to raise Cameron. I hope that Rory and I have another child, even though we haven't talked about it yet. But one thing I am 100% sure of is she is the woman I want to grow old with, dad. Rory and Cameron are the missing pieces in my life. I want to ask Rory to marry me, dad, as soon as the last business meetings are over, only I'm missing..."

"The right ring Logan?" Mitchum finished his son's sentence with a big grin and looked at him questioningly while nervously fiddling with the small black box he had in his jacket.

Logan blinked at him in surprise. "Uh...yeah. That's exactly it. I've been to a few jewelry stores, but so far, nothing has appealed to me. Either the rings are too sparkly or showy. I want an elegant plain ring that fits Rory," Logan confirmed, taking his scotch glass in his hand and waving it back and forth, lost in thought.

"And that's my cue now, Logan. When your grandmother died three years ago, she had a long talk with me a few days before she died. She asked me to pass on her greatest possession, her wedding ring, to you. Your grandfather didn't like it at all, because he wanted my mom to wear the wedding ring until her last day. But you knew Grandma, and she was stubborn up to the second, she closed her eyes forever. She left the ring to me so it would stay in the family."

Mitchum paused for a moment. Logan saw a shadow of anger cloud his face. "Grandpa tried to talk me out of taking it. I told him I couldn't refuse Mom's wish, no way. Well, your grandfather got pretty angry and abusive with me. He told me that since the day I was born, I've been the biggest disappointment in his life and haven't done anything right. I let loose. I told him that he'd been a shitty father to my siblings and me. He was never there for us. Work was more important than his kids. If we hadn't had Mom, I think I would have broken off contact with Dad a lot sooner..."

"Dad I..."

"Logan, please let me keep talking. At the time, I didn't feel the need to let you have the ring when you told mom and me that you were engaged to Odette. When we first saw Odette, we knew this woman would not fit you, but we didn't want to tell you. I don't want to be as authoritative as I was years ago and dictate your life to you. You have your life in your hands, and you can live it the way you want it..." Mitchum cleared his throat, took the black jewelry box out of his jacket pocket, and slid the box across the table.

Logan could hardly believe it as he hesitantly took the box in his hands. In awe, he opened the box, and his deceased grandmother's wedding ring sparkled like a new penny.

"Dad, I can accept the ring. It's way too valuable and..."

"Logan, please take the ring. Grandma wanted you to have the ring. She loved you so much. And don't worry about the business meetings; I can always help you so that you can take an extended holiday with Rory and Cameron. Mom and I were also thinking about leaving you the vacation house in Florida. We hardly ever come to Florida. It's too hot. And the bugs bother your mother. But you and Rory could visit Disney World with Cami. I think she'd like that," Mitchum forcefully responded to his son's objections.

"Dad, I really don't know what to say," Logan said softly as he stared at the ring. "It's perfect. I could see this on Rory's finger. It's her."

Mitchum smiled and raised his glass. "Then go give it to her, son. Put it on that finger and make sure it stays there forever."
