Sam and Jack had just gotten a room at the Hyatt. Jack had booked a king-size room, and Sam was ready for their night. Jack was looking at the view of her he currently had. Samantha Carter was wearing a red dress with flowers on it. It wasn't formalwear by any means, but it was beautiful, the neckline was a deep V, and it hugged her curves perfectly. Her legs seemed to go on and on, and the black strapped heels she was wearing made her just an inch shorter than him. Both Sam and Jack had liked the newfound height difference.
The play was terrific, but Sam had found herself zoning out from time to time. Suzzane and her baby had had her entirely her undone. The newborn smell, the weight of the baby in her arms, the fact it was so in need of care. It made her want one. She had always wanted a baby. She remembered when she was little telling one of her friends she wanted a summer wedding in a big open field, barefoot. Sam shook her head at the idea now. But she told her friend she wanted a lot of babies. When Sam was 17, she had a pregnancy scare and decided that kids weren't for her, and then the military lifestyle just set it in stone for a while now. She knew she could; she'd seen plenty of women have a baby and come back; when she and Jonah were together, she entertained the idea for a while, but then she was young, and she felt like she had plenty of time. Sam had turned 30, and Jonas was no longer there, and she wasn't even sure another man was in her future. Now with Jack, she felt like anything was possible. She knew Daniel wasn't lying when he said Jack was ready for a baby. Now suddenly, Sam felt like she was more than ready too.
Sam thought long and hard and knew that the feeling would probably pass sooner rather than later, but she wasn't sure if that's what she wanted. She knew the birth control she was on would take a while for her to get pregnant, and 35 well, 35 wasn't the best age to be having baby number 1, but it wasn't the worst. Then 1000 biological questions ticked in her head.
Something would happen in the play to get her to refocus. Jack hadn't seemed to notice that she wasn't paying much attention. She felt bad because she knew the tickets were expensive and it was exactly what she wanted to see.
Jack stood in front of Sam, looking at her, but she was 1000 miles away.
"Earth to Carter." Jack finally said.
She blinked a few times and focused her eyes on him.
"What you thinking about?" Jack asked.
Sam was hesitant.
"Now, come on, Sam, don't start. Whatever it is," Jack claimed.
"I think I want a baby," Sam said suddenly.
"a baby?" Jack asked.
"Yeah." Sam smiled.
Jack smiled back.
"A baby does sound nice, doesn't it," Jack asked.
"Yeah," Sam said breathlessly.
"Well, we can start that right now if you like," Jack stated.
"Not really," Sam claimed.
Jack looked oddly at her.
"Birth control will take time to wear off," Sam explained.
Jack nodded.
"It will be fun to practice." Jack pointed out.
"So just like that," Sam asked.
"Just like that," Jack stated.
"What if I never said I wanted kids?" Sam claimed.
"Then, you didn't want kids," Jack stated.
"But, you want kids," Sam claims.
"I do." Jack agreed.
"So would this have worked? I mean, I don't even know if I can." Sam claimed.
Jack looked at her funny.
"Janet just doesn't know with everything I've been through," Sam claimed.
Jack just nodded.
"If it doesn't happen, it doesn't happen. If you want a baby and it doesn't happen, we can figure out, okay?" Jack says soothingly.
Sam nodded her head.
"Still up for some practice?" Jack asked.
Sam smiled at him, kissed his lips, unbuttoning his shirt.
They both smiled as they took off each other clothes.
Jack couldn't believe the words that had tumbled out of Sam's mouth. He was excited and hopeful at the moment that soon enough, he and Sam would have a baby. She wanted a family with him. It was a lot to take in. Jack felt Sam touch his bare chest and still sent shivers down his spine and threw him back to what was in front of him.
When the morning came, and Jack stretched, he looked over at Sam, who was still asleep and smiled. He wondered with baby talk if an engagement ring should be something sooner rather than later. He's wanted to marry her long before anything came to be. He had his grandmother's ring at home. She was alive to see Sarah, and he be wed and be happy. She wanted him to pass it down to Charlie. She died six months after Charlie was born.
Now he knew that his grandmother would be proud of him to use it, and they would pass it down to their grandchildren one day. Jack closed his eyes, wondering suddenly at his age if a baby was a good idea. He was pushing 50, and did he really want to be 70 and have just sent his kid to college. He closed his eyes again. Maybe it wasn't the best idea, but it's what he wanted, and Jack felt he deserved something every once in a while. He wished that Sam's birth control wasn't a factor, but all women going through the gate have it just in case, and now she would have to wait for the shot to wear off.
"How long?" Jack asked.
"Until what?" Sam asked.
"That damn shot wears off," Jack asked.
"Oh, um about 45 days now," Sam said as she thought about the last time she got it.
Jack nodded his head.
The two are suddenly lost in each other, kissing and touching, and when Jack enters her, its a different feeling. Maybe it's all the baby hype, but he would be happy if she woke up pregnant tomorrow. He focuses all his attention on her until she's so loud, he sushes her sure the neighbors can hear.
She moans out again, and he already comes inside of her.
She smiles widely at him, and they settle down, clean up, and finally fall asleep. Jack hopes that Samantha Carter is happy with his choice of vacation destination.
