Kim Possible: Vamped

Kim smiled at Monique laying in her bed in a borrowed robe as the shapely young woman slept there after a long night of explanations. She had even taken Monique to the lab to show her the monitors where the exiled men and women Kim targeted now struggled to stay alive in an alien and to them a hostile world.
Someone had a little common sense among them, for they were trying to build a shelter, even as they tried to cultivate food based on what little they must have already found edible. They had even fashioned crude spears and used stone tools. Frankly, it was more than she would have believed of them. Still, she only watched.
Her primary concern was ensuring they didn't find or harm the amphibians.
To her mind, justice had been delivered, and now the sentence was being carried out. What came to them now was by their own hands. Whatever Betty now did was on her. Kim as more concerned with Monique.
Monique stirred restlessly but didn't otherwise move.
This was her first day of life. Her first day as a preternatural. A vampire. She would rest today, recovering from her trial and rebirth. Tonight, she would wake, and she would thirst, as she would for the rest of her days.
That was when Kim would learn what she truly wished.
She prayed for her longtime friend and possible lover would do, or ask of her. That was when Kim prayed Monique would thank her and give her life to her. She did not wish to have her try to go out on her own, or worse, beg for true death.
Kim didn't think she could take that one.
She knew she couldn't.
She just knew no one could know of Monique. No one outside this house. Monique was dead to the world beyond, and there would only be trouble trying to explain her return after she was so obviously cremated, and mourned by all around her.
Kim sighed, and looked back at her beloved, and then went back to adjust the covers around her, making sure the heavy drapes she had placed over the windows to help herself rest when she slept through daylight were completely sealed.
She then finished dressing, walked out closing the door, and saw Shego standing in the hall.
"She's….not going to be up today?"
"Not till tonight. She has a lot to adjust to now."
"I guessed. So, what about your blood supplies?"
"We'll figure it out. I've been learning how Wade makes his blood substitute. You know, just in case. I'll make extra myself if I have to do that, but no one can know about her, Shego."
"This is why you wanted that extra holo-mask."
"Yes," Kim nodded, not moving from where she stood before the door. "I had not really made a decision even then, but….I hoped…."
"I get it," Shego nodded. "I don't blame you for an instant. Still, you are right. We just can't let anyone else know. In fact, not even Stoppable. Certainly not Bets."
"No. This will be our secret."
"Meanwhile, you have an appointment I forgot to mention yesterday with all that craziness going on."
"What appointment?"
"Monique's lawyer," Shego told her. "He called us up yesterday while you were still out, and said the girl left you something in her will."
"She did?"
"She did. Don't know what, don't ask. You'll find out at eleven. Now, you want breakfast? I already know the kiddo is sleeping in. She was up late on the phone, and likely to be out cold all day again."
"I can't imagine what she would have left me," Kim frowned, walking toward Shego. "Still, I'd better have coffee this morning, if only so I don't start dragging," she declared.
"You up very late yourself?"
"It took a while to fill her in," Kim sighed as they went to the kitchen where coffee was already brewing, and Shego took eggs from the fridge to start cooking. "She wanted to know everything. You know, even the stuff I didn't tell her the first time."
"How'd she take it?"
"Well, she didn't run screaming from me," Kim sighed as she watched Shego start cooking as Kim poured her own coffee. "She did finally say that she needed to sleep on things and decide later. I think that was mostly her just winding down after… Well, I cannot imagine how it felt to be…reborn like that."
"No? You don't think it was like your deal?"
"Probably not even close. Old Hagraat was trying to tear out my life and spirit and give Krelandra a body back. Dragon heart only purifies and restores life in its highest form. Or, at least as high as the current form can manage. With my blood, she was raised as a vampire equal to Danaras. In time, she'll manifest, too, just like my daughter. Only it will be a while. She's newborn, while Dana is already growing."
"And you are already an Elder. So, what was the deal?"
"Deal?"
"I told you I've dealt with those posers before now. Elders only give and take. Give and take. It's all about bargains with them, and I think even you know it, Princess," Shego told her as Kim went to take her usual seat at the nearby table. "So what did that glorified hag want in return?"
"Well, it's wasn't like that, but she did ask to consider taking a role on the Elder Council when one of their own retired. Whenever that might be."
"You're kidding? You're practically a noobe, and they want you on the Council?"
"Apparently I impressed a lot of them," Kim sighed, eyeing her steaming mug as she sat there waiting on the food.
"Obviously. So, did Heras say who was bowing out?"
"Baphomet."
"No kidding? Did I ever tell you he's the one I met? Why is old feather-brain leaving? Or whatever they do?"
"Apparently he's the oldest of all of them, and facing his own inevitable end. Immortal isn't eternal apparently, even if the guy is almost as old as the entire world from what I've heard. Anyway, when he steps down to make the final passing, they want me to replace him."
"Wow. So, when does this happen?"
"Might not be for decades. Maybe another century or two, but considering how long they live, Heras said to them that is nothing. So they wanted to be ready. They wanted me to be ready."
"So, are you doing it?"
"I don't know. Maybe."
"Really?"
"Well, something she said. If you consider how old some of them are, and how unfriendly the majority are likely to be to humans, someone else might make things….worse if they jumped in and started making hostile policies that led to new conflicts."
"So, still trying to save the world," Shego asked blandly.
"Maybe," Kim sighed. "I just don't see the need to make things worse. For any of us," Kim added as Shego finally set plates on the table before them.
"I get it. So, how about a special meal tonight to celebrate your special friend coming back to us," Shego asked. "Any recommendations? What're her favorites?"
Kim smiled wanly now.
"Monique is…complicated. She loves creating fashions and studying others, but as to food, I'd have to say she's pretty….open. Probably because of all her traveling, too. She does like Mexican, but she enjoys French, Italian, and plain Southern cooking, too."
"Well, that doesn't narrow down much," Shego rolled her eyes as she began eating.
Kim tapped her own chin a moment before she reached for the pepper.
"I do recall her gushing over one of Ron's dishes once. He made a Mexican-Italian dish somehow. A kind of casserole with Mexican peppers and spices, but pasta and sausage, too. She raved on it. I remember that."
"Really? And what did he serve with it?"
"Cornbread, only he added Mexican spices to that, too, and it added to the flavor. Although I recall we all drank a lot of milk and ate a lot of antacids later," Kim smiled. "Well, all of us but Ron and Monique."
"So, she has a cast-iron stomach, too," Shego grinned.
"I guess. I think she likes anything that tastes good but isn't afraid to experiment," Kim nodded.
"And you?"
"I never noticed what was made. I just ate it. Usually on the way out the door."
"Out the door," Shego finished in tandem with her, eyeing her knowingly.
"Right. So, does that help?"
"It gives me a few ideas."
"Thanks for accepting this so easily, Shego. I know it couldn't be easy."
"What's not easy is watching you tear yourself apart over something that was not your fault. You and Dana are alike there, you know. She was still blaming herself for not reaching Monique in time. I think she just wanted you to be happy. You know that, don't you?"
"I do get that," Kim nodded. "I guess, if Monique does accept…all of this, the next question is going to be how to cover her presence. She's going to have to have that mask pretty much full-time, so I better make sure her unit is upgraded to ensure it doesn't fail."
"You're kidding, right? Between you and the gremlins, I'm pretty sure that thing will outlast anything out there."
"Yeah. Still…."
"I get it. You just want to tinker, so you can avoid thinking about what you may be facing later."
"Maybe. Just a little," Kim said and finished cleaning her plate before she drained the last of her coffee, and eyed the clock.
"Thought so."
"Yell at me when it's close to the time for that appointment. If it's something Monique wanted me to have, it might be something she might like back now that she's…."
"I'll watch the clock. Go play, you loon," Shego waved her off.
"I'm not playing," Kim sputtered.
Shego only grinned.
"Drew, or your family. I know playing when I see it. Go play, you glorified lab rat," she teased.
"Shego…."
"Yeah?"
"Thank you. Just…thank you for being here. You've really been a big help."
"That's what friends are for, Kimmie."
"Yeah. I'm glad you're my friend."
"Hey, I owed you a few. Still do," Shego declared.
"You know, I don't think you've called anyone since…"
"I don't have anyone. Hard for most people to see past the green freak, Kimmie. You know how it is."
"You're not a freak. Okay, you're green, but that only adds to your exotic appeal. You know?"
"Not everyone sees the world like you, Kimmie," Shego scoffed. "Even now, you're a bit of…."
"What about Drew? Weren't you guys….?"
"What? No," Shego grimaced. "We hung around each other because we were used to each other. We were also in the same boat. But anything else, ewwwww. I mean, have you met his mother? That whole family has issues," Shego declared with disdain.
"Well, I didn't know. I know how gossips get things wrong, but I thought if you were still…."
"No, never, and not happening. Maybe someday someone will look at me, and we might respect one another enough to try seeing how things go. Maybe. Drewbie? Acquaintance only. Not quite sure we're actual friends. Just… Uh, people that know each other, and can almost tolerate one another. Sometimes," Shego qualified as Kim only chuckled at her.
"Well, until you find your own way, and your own life, we'll be glad to have you around, Shego. I know Dana enjoys having you here, too."
"Of course. You'd both starve if I weren't here."
"Hey!"
"Go play," Shego pointed when Kim glowered and started to turn back.
Kim eyed her and then smirked.
"I still think you'd make a great wife. Or a partner. Someone is really missing out with you," Kim declared.
"Right. Let's face it, Kimmie, I was never the kind you took home to mother."
"Sure you were," Kim said as she sauntered off. "Maybe I should call Drew, and see if he's just being bashful again."
"What," Shego shrieked, and stormed after her. "Princess, don't you dare….!"
Kim's laugher muted as she shut the basement door, disappearing below to her lab.
"Loon," Shego grumbled, and stalked back to the kitchen to start cleaning up again. Then she recalled their earlier conversation, and murmured, "Mexican, huh?"
