AN EXTRAORDINARY A/N:

OK, so, by chance, I've come across a recent Ginny/Blaise fanfic called 'Ginny's Love', published on AO3 after this story, which bears some striking similarities to mine. Specific formulations and choices concerning settings and dialogue, even the dramatic structure of chapters and appearance of supporting characters, feel particularly familiar – I would even go as far as to say, repurposed, for a lack of better word. (Well, judge for yourselves if you read it or come across it).

*sighs* Maybe this is just what happens within such a huge and popular fanfic universe as Harry Potter? That, inevitably, we're bound to stumble into the same use of tropes and narrative structures?

Look, since I myself enjoy and take full advantage of the freedom to get creative with canonical work on this site, and I cannot lay claim to the characters and environments that JKR invented in the first place; it'd be hypocritical of me to point fingers.

And while I DON'T condone outright plagiarism and repostings of other people's fanfics, of course, by definition, it is a bit silly to get territorial about inspiration. I'm inspired by other fanfics, all the time, as well. And it's not like I'm not following along some of the same lines of the canonical tropes that are most common with these characters. If Ginny/Blaise wasn't a relatively rare pairing, I might not have said anything at all.

I guess, as a fellow fanfic writer, championing creative originality within the universe most of all, I'm just a bit... disappointed, overall.

If all these similarities, so far, happen to have come about by pure chance without the writer in question even being aware of my fic then, well, I guess I'm the fool here. I might just be completely wrong and imagining things... You readers might even agree.

Only time will tell.

UPDATE: Although since beginning this A/N, I've noticed some of the latest chapters – as of January 2021 – are suspiciously close to my latest chapters; the latter once again published first (latest update I had was August 2020. Those of you who follow me might remember, although newcomers will not, sadly)...

Now, you see, it leaves me quite confounded and in a bit of an ethical pickle as a writer, considering I'm 1) reluctant to instigate any kind of unnecessary drama in terms of plagiarism claims, however loosely-based and/or true, within the fanfic universe and 2) in danger of being accused of the very same if our stories continue to 'correlate' since I've pointed out the fact that I'm aware of said story.

In the end, in order to prevent that, it'd be easier for me to just let the above-mentioned writer finish their story and then do my thing the way I intended. However long both of them may take. *double-sighs*

Anyways. Just thought I'd say my piece for good measure/disclaimer. I really care about this story and I don't want there to be any misunderstandings, if you get me? As always, I welcome any constructive feedback and I hope you'll read and enjoy this story for its own merit as you've done so far.

I'm still working on my next chapter which might take some time – which is fine really considering everything, though, of course, I'm sorry on behalf of you, my loyal readers, who might be eagerly awaiting the next update soon. Sorry again guys, for getting your hopes up with this unusual update, I'm just trying to reconcile myself with all this if there's any basis in it or not, but I hope you'll bear with me.

Hope you are all well. Best wishes, poeticjustice22
