"So, where were you the other night?" Katherine asked Stefan as they stepped out of her Porsche.
"Just...out," Stefan shrugged casually, "you know-"
Katherine narrowed her eyes at the Ripper, not at all believing his blatant lie, "uh...ah," she made a noise at the back of her throat. "You sure don't have anything to tell me?"
"Nope," he said little too quickly. "Not a thing."
"If you say so," The older vampire decided not to push the matter anymore when Stefan obviously didn't want to talk about it. She then walked towards the front porch of a craftsman style house and rang the doorbell. It didn't take long for the occupant to answer the door.
"Hello, Bon Bon," Katherine greeted the town witch. "Do you have what I want?"
Bonnie Bennett just rolled her eyes at the nickname and invited the two vampires in, holding the door wide open.
"Wait here a second," she muttered to the pair and went up the stairs, leaving them in her drawing-room. She came back a few moments later with a worn-out book in her hand. Katherine, who had seen Bonnie's house for the first time, was scanning the place alongside Stefan. When she sensed the witch's arrival, the doppelganger turned around and reached her hand to take the grimoire she has come for. But Bonnie withdrew her hand back before the vampire could even touch it, causing Katherine to pout ever so lightly.
Conditions, Katherine thought with a sigh when she saw Bonnie's resolute face. Here we go.
"I don't know why you want this," Bonnie honestly didn't.
She was surprised when she received the call from the ancient vampire two days ago, asking her to search for a grimoire that held spell upon Prison worlds of Gemini Coven. The vampire said she was calling in for the favor she did in helping them close the Ghost world that Bonnie had accidentally opened. Even though it wasn't much of a help, Bonnie decided to do as requested as a way to repay the vampire for introducing the eccentric, hot-headed, Greek witch in her tough times.
"Nor do I want to know how you even know about this particular book and spell, when I, myself, didn't," Bonnie began eyeing the doppelganger before her distrustfully, not knowing whether she was opening a prison world or breaking someone out. Either way, it didn't settle well with her. But Bonnie Bennett was past caring about good and bad after all the shit she went through, since the last summer. "And even though I don't have even a speck of good feeling about whatever you are planning, I don't like to be owed to you. So consider this my payment for introducing me to Mrs. Stavros."
Catherine couldn't help but snort at Bonnie's polite way of addressing Melantha.
"You do know she is not really married right," Katherine commented, offhandedly, gabbing the book from Bonnie's hands before the witch decided to change her mind.
"She...is not?" Boonie asked, surprised, processing the new information.
"Nah," Katherine sighed sadly, remembering the story of the mother she adopted. "They were going to. But, unfortunately, it didn't go their way. And, when Alexander died, Mel just took what's left of him. His last name."
"What happened to him exactly?" asked a curious Bonnie. "She never talks about him, other than the fact that he was a vampire."
"Not my story to tell Bon Bon," Katherine said. "If Mel thinks you are worthy, she will tell you herself." She paused for a moment before remembering the other important thing she came there for. "Now, about the other thing, I asked as a complimentary."
Bonnie just huffed and held out her hand. Katherine grinned and dug out a vial from her handbag, and passed it to the town witch. Bonnie then grabbed a knife and sliced her palm a little, letting her blood drip into the empty vial. Once the small vial was filled, she passed it back to the five-hundred-year-old unpredictable vampire.
"Want me to heal it?" Katherine inquired once she stashed the last piece of ingredient she needed in her bag.
"No," Bonnie said. "I would rather not risk the chances." Definitely not after what happened to Esther Mikaelson, went unsaid.
"Suit yourself," Katherine commented with a shrug. She turned around to see a quiet Stefan, who looked like he was deep in thought about something."
"Stefan," She tried to get the younger vampire out of his mullings. But when he remained unaffected, Katherine took a step forward and touched his shoulder, "Stef?"
That seemed to snap him out of his reverie. "Are you alright?" Katherine inquired, cocking her head to the side.
"Yes," Stefan said, clearing his throat, before repeating it once again. "Yeah, I am fine. Are we done here?"
"Yeah," Katherine said, a little concerned for her friend. "Let's get going."
Katherine knew something was troubling the younger vampire, and Stefan is probably trying to work it by himself. But he doesn't seem to be doing much good from the looks of it. However, as a being of a similar mindset and attitude in regards to expressing feelings, Katherine knew very well not to push someone to talk about their stresses when they are not interested in sharing. Therefore, she decided to wait and stay by his side until the broody vampire finds a solution by himself or at least lend out a helping hand when needed.
"You know," Katherine began once they were back in her car, "I can drop you back at the Boarding house if you are not in the mood to see the outside world."
"No. No, I am good," Stefan said. "Also, we decided its better to give the whole house to Enzo and Damon today, remember? I would rather not be amidst them right now. God knows what they are doing. I just hope they are sorting out their differences and are staying out of the garage and my car."
After the insults, torture, apologizes, and guilt trips, the former Augustine Prisoners came to an agreement. For one, they won't kill each other and will try their best to keep their limbs attached to their bodies. That's something the vampire from another world appreciated for the time being as she knew removing blood stains from carpets and walls is quite troublesome. She is too lazy to compel a housekeeper. But that compromise didn't stop Lorenzo St. John from antagonizing Damon Salvatore in one way or the other, for the following two days.
So, Katherine and Stefan candidly decided to leave the two Augustine vampires to their petty fights and the pissing contests by staying far away from them before they lose their own sanity.
"By the way, is it just me or does it look like there's a ton of unresolved sexual tension between the two of them?" Katherine inquired curiously.
Stefan choked on the air at his ex-girlfriend's question, staring at her flabbergasted.
"Just me then," Katherine concluded aloud, seeing Stefan expression. "But something tells me, Caroline, Hayley, and Rose will agree with me after seeing that pair."
"Just what goes on in that head of yours?" Stefan wondered aloud, causing Katherine to shrug her shoulders nonchalantly.
"Food, blood, food, sleep, food," Katherine answered with a straight face, sincerely. "I also think about the soap operas I used to watch occasionally during my free time. But, yeah, that's about it."
Stefan just looked heavenward and sighed heavily.
"Hey, it's better than planning world domination, you know," Katherine remarked, offended at his actions.
"I guess-" Stefan began but paused when he saw where their next destination was at "Why are we going this way?"
"I have to pick someone up," said a sullen Katherine, her expression showing how displeased she was with the whole thing she is about to do. "But to do so, I have to attend an interrogation and answer a few questions I would rather not answer."
Stefan turned rigid, almost instinctively, when Katherine steered the car towards the Mikaelson Mansion. His stiff posture didn't go unnoticed by the older vampire.
"It's okay if you don't want to come inside," Katherine said once again when she noticed the tense atmosphere around him.
"I was with Rebekah," Stefan blurted out suddenly, and Katherine had to stop the car on a side to understand what he meant and where he was going with it.
"What?" Katherine inquired, confused at the statement.
"The other day," Stefan elaborated, turning to stare at the fellow vampire, "I spent the night with Rebekah."
"Oh!" She then understood what exactly it meant and said again with clarity, "Oh!" Stefan stared at her, almost expectantly, as if he was waiting for her to say something.
"Well-" She didn't know what to say to that. Was she supposed to ask for details? She doesn't think so by the looks of it. So, she just decided to go with, "That's unexpected."
Stefan ran his hand through his perfectly gelled dark brown hair and gave me a quick rundown of the events, "When Klaus came to the boarding house to talk to you about his Esther's transition into a vampire, he gave me back my memories. But they were just memories, you know... I didn't feel anything. I just knew I was good friends with him and that Rebekah and I had a relationship. So, I didn't tell you anything about it, as I figured it wasn't a big deal. Then the other day, I was at the bar, thinking about how Elena won't be attending the senior year with me this year, and I was drinking. Rebekah showed up a little while later, and we got to talking. About all the crazy that was happening in our lives for the past few months. And before I know it, I was waking up in her bed the next morning."
"So, you are feeling awkward about the whole thing now?" Katherine didn't understand what exactly was his problem. He had sex. Why was it troubling him so much? Unless- Realization dawned on her, "You are feeling guilty," She concluded. "You feel like you cheated on Elena?"
Stefan sighed, confirming Katherine was right about her deduction.
Katherine stayed silent, not knowing what to say to the penitent man in front of her. What could she possibly say to a person who lost the love of his life, when she doesn't even know the first thing about love. She may be all too familiar with the pain of losing her family, but is it similar to the agony one feels when they lose a lover- she doesn't know.
Maybe she should call her grumpy therapist for advice.
"I know Elena's gone," Stefan said. "I know she isn't coming back ever. But when you told Bonnie about Melantha's story, I felt like-" he paused for a second, a million emotions flashed in his eyes. It was hard to describe what exactly the former Ripper was feeling behind those "Was my love for her not strong?"
"Stefan-" Katherine interrupted his doleful thoughts, "Melantha's story is way different from yours. Mel was betrayed by her family- her coven. She lost the love of her life for trusting someone she shouldn't, and suddenly she felt like there is no hope in this world. She felt completely alone. But you are not. You have a family, people that care about you. People who are willing to show you there still hope for you, for love. And you don't have to feel guilty for letting yourself believe in that hope. And if Elena really loved you, she would also say the same thing," She paused for a moment before ordering, "Don't beat yourself up for trying to be happy again."
"But-"
"Uh...ah," Katherine shook her head at him, "I will rip your heart out if you try disagreeing with me."
"bu-"
"I am not kidding," Katherine avowed, and Stefan huffed, leaning back into his seat. "Now that everything's sorted out... let's go to the Volturi's den. Unless you desperately want to avoid the female Klaus-"
"Let's go," Stefan interrupted Katherine's not so subtle jab, making her grin like a Cheshire cat.
Katherine's mood turned mopy, and she felt sorry for herself as she stepped into the Mikaelson Mansion when the doppelganger thought about the interrogation or conversation she was going to have to participate in for the next minutes. She honestly didn't want to deal with the Original Family, bar Kol, her current partner in crime, that is.
And she was doing a damn good job at actively avoiding them, until then. But the only capable and amicable witches Katherine knew for the moment were Maddox and Greta. And for them to provide their service, she should take the approval of one and only Klaus Mikaelson.
If it wasn't for Hayley and the wolves she liked to pet so much, Catherine would never go through all this trouble to bring Kai from the Prison World. The only Siphoners she knew were Kai and the unreliable and neurotic heretics of Lillian Salvatore, both of whom are trapped in two different Prison worlds.
And Katherine Pierce whole-heartedly concluded that she would have a better understanding of Kai's sociopathic character compared to the other blood-thirsty psychotic gang. And hence her plan started. She stole the ascendant from Josette Parker. Got the grimoire that contained the required spell from Bonnie Bennett's collection. The Bennett witch's blood. And lastly, the talisman of Qetsiyah as a backup plan. It was intended for Kai Parker to get charged to perform the spell, in case anything were to go sideways.
Now, all she needed was for a witch to do the spell that will help send her to the Prison World and back- which got the vampire to where she was.
"What a surprise," a familiar British accent greeted her. "I was actually considering sending out my hybrids on a search party in a day or two's time if you didn't show up."
Hey, Guys!
Sorry for the delay. Most of my wattpad followers might already know this, but I am gonna say this again - I was busy with my new internship, and so I couldn't find time to write any of my books. I am still trying to manage my time, but I think it will take me some time to adjust. But that doesn't mean I will put my stories on hold. I will try my best to update, even if they are not done so regularly. Even this chapter was done solely in one day, so I couldn't complete it fully. I thought to put the whole Mikaelson arc in this, but I promised to send out the update by midnight. And now, my brain stopped working after I was a little into the arc. So, I decided to just add it in the next chapter, and keep this as a cliffhanger so some shit like that.
Anyways, enough of my rambling.
I hope you enjoyed it.
Thank you,
IamMHR.
