In this chapter, our heroes will face Horace and Morgiana. It's time to finish Team Shadow once and for all. That way Johto can have peace, much like Kanto.
Besides, our heroes have a Pokemon League to attend to. How far will they get this time?
Perhaps they'll do better than they did before. Or maybe not.
Chapter 38: Fall of Team Shadow
"I'm impressed you managed to make it this far. You even managed to breach our hideout." remarked Horace. That had really been a setback to the team.
It seemed the Houndoom cameras hadn't been enough to keep out intruders. Clefairy was so quick to catch on. She was a smart Pokemon. No wonder she flew a spaceship.
But it ultimately didn't result in their disbandment. They simply found a new hideout.
It seemed some kids were determined to make Johto a better place.
"It's time to put an end to Team Shadow once and for all!" exclaimed Chris. She had just about enough of them after finding out what their master plan was.
"I understand what you're looking for...but don't you think it'd be dishonorable to take Morgiana on two to one?" asked Horace.
For a criminal he seemed awfully insistent that Pokemon trainers fought with honor.
Perhaps that was why he never seemed to try to steal their Pokemon while they battled.
"You're not wrong." answered Jake.
Though considering how strong her Pokemon were, it sounded risky to take her on one on one.
Still, he wouldn't want Horace to continue Morgiana's dirty work if she ever were to be defeated.
It would be best if they took him down.
Jake stayed behind while Chris went to fight Morgiana.
Horace sent out Gengar.
"Gengar!" exclaimed the ghost Pokemon.
Jake wondered what the best Pokemon to counter Gengar would be.
He knew that Gengar was weak against psychic and dark attacks.
However, his Levitate ability would protect him from ground attacks.
So using a ground type wouldn't work out.
He decided on Hypno.
Hypno was weak against ghost attacks...but he had high special defense.
That could help counteract that.
Gengar tossed a Shadow Ball at Hypno.
"Hypno!" exclaimed a psychic Pokemon.
Luckily, this wasn't a critical hit, or Hypno's special defense wouldn't protect him.
Gengar fainted.
"Not bad. But this fight is just beginning." noted Horacd.
Horace sent out Golem.
Jake knew exactly what Pokemon he should use.
He withdrew Hypno and sent out Blastoise.
Golem began to feel rather nervous.
Blastoise used Hydro Pump.
Golem fainted almost instantly.
"Golem..." remarked the rock Pokemon.
Why did he have to get paired up against a water type?
Having a severe type weakness could really mess up your game.
Golem WAS immune to electricity though.
Horace sent out Machamp.
"Machamp!" exclaimed the fighting Pokemon.
Jake withdrew Blastoise.
Afterwards, he then sent out Hypno.
However, Hypno was weakened from his fight with Gengar.
Hypno used Zen Headbutt, and Machamp used Rock Slide.
Seemed Horace didn't want to use a technique that would be ineffective.
Both Hypno and Machamp fainted.
"Machamp..." murmured the fighting Pokemon.
Horace sent out Alakazam.
"Alakazam!" exclaimed the psychic Pokemon.
Jake wondered why a Pokemon would want to use spoons as a weapon.
Well, he wouldn't judge.
Using his Grimer wouldn't work well against Alakazam.
Unfortunately, he didn't have a Pokemon on hand that would be super effective against Alakazam.
So he decided he would use Typhlosion.
Typhlosion used Fire Blast, and Alakazam used Psychic.
They both scored a critical hit.
Alakazam nearly dropped his spoons, but he held onto them.
Both Alakazam and Typhlosion fainted.
For his last Pokemon, Horace sent out Houndoom.
Blastoise had been weakened a bit from fighting Golem earlier, but Jake decided he would still use her.
Blastoise did surprisingly well.
Hydro Pump really did a number on Houndoom.
However, Houndoom ended up Crunching her.
"Blastoise!" exclaimed the water Pokemon.
Houndoom then hit Blastoise with Thunder Fang...which was super effective.
Blastoise fainted.
"Looks like Grimer's up." noted Jake.
"Grimer!" exclaimed the sludge Pokemon.
Fortunately for Jake, Grimer was able to finish off Houndoom with Mud Bomb.
"That battle was nothing short of impressive. But I wonder if your friend can defeat Morgiana." noted Horace.
"I can only hope." answered Jake.
Meanwhile, Chris confronted Morgiana.
"So, you managed to make it here. I have to say I'm impressed." remarked Morgiana. She had managed to make it past all of her Team Shadow Grunts.
Though it seemed her friends had helped her with the three executives.
"Can't you just stop this already?" asked Chris. She had enough of Morgiana and her evil schemes.
"I don't see the point in quitting while I'm ahead. Though you have brought Team Shadow to its knees. I suppose I'll just have to deal with you myself. Do try to make this interesting for me this time, will you?" asked the executive. Her Wigglytuff wouldn't mind the workout.
"I can assure you I'm a lot stronger this time." remarked the teenage girl.
After all, she now had seven gym badges.
Hopefully if she saved Johto, she could get an eighth.
"I would certainly hope so." nodded Morgiana.
She'd be disappointed if she won easily.
For her first Pokemon. she sent out Rapidash.
"Rapidash!" exclaimed the fire Pokemon.
Chris thought about what Pokemon she should sent out.
Fortunately, she had an idea.
"I guess I should fight fire...with rock." noted Chris.
She sent out Kabuto.
"Kabuto!" exclaimed the water Pokemon.
"Well, water too." remarked the girl.
Being a dual typed Pokemon made a Pokemon more versatile.
Fortunately, Kabuto was well-protected from Rapidash's flames.
In fact, she hardly felt the flames at all.
In retaliation, Kabuto used Aqua Jet.
"Kabuto!" exclaimed the fossil Pokemon.
It was a direct hit.
Rapidash fainted.
"Rapidash..." murmured the fire Pokemon.
Her extreme speed hadn't been enough to take down Kabuto.
"Yes!" cheered Chris.
But it was a bit early to celebrate.
She could tell Morgiana had six Pokemon.
That was a lot.
Unfortunately, Morgiana had a counter for Kabuto.
She sent out Bellossom.
"Bellossom!" exclaimed the hula dancer Pokemon.
"That's not good." remarked Chris.
While Kabuto was basically the worst Pokemon a fire Pokemon could face, it was the best Pokemon a grass Pokemon could face.
Kabuto himself realized the situation he was in.
While Bellossom looked cute, he couldn't help but feel worried.
Would he win this Pokemon battle? The odds didn't look good.
Chris thought about this as well.
Perhaps it would be best if she switched Pokemon.
That way she would have an advantage again.
She decided she would use Fearow.
"Fearow!" exclaimed the teenage girl.
Unfortunately, Bellossom used Stun Spore, drastically slowing Fearow down.
And to make matters worse, Fearow wasn't able to attack.
Bellossom launched Sludge Bomb.
"Fearow!" exclaimed the bird Pokemon as he was pelted with the poison.
However, he hit Bellossom with Aerial Ace in retaliation.
Bellossom fainted.
"Bellossom..." murmured the fainted hula Pokemon.
Morgiana sent out Sudowoodo next.
He seemed like the best choice in this situation.
"Sudowoodo!" exclaimed the rock Pokemon.
Chris was at a type disadvantage.
So she decided she would switch to a different Pokemon.
What Pokemon could she use?
She decided to use Kabuto again.
But Sudowoodo hit Kabuto with Rock Hammer.
Kabuto fainted.
"Kabuto..." murmured the fainted fossil Pokemon.
He wasn't expecting himself to be hit by an attack that did quadruple damage.
"Oh c'mon!" exclaimed Chris in frustration.
Fortunately, she remembered she had Nidoking.
He had a type advantage.
Nidoking was able to take down Sudowoodo with Earthquake.
Morgiana sent out Azumarill.
"Azumarill!" exclaimed the water Pokemon.
Chris decided that she would need a grass or an electric Pokemon if she wanted to have the upper hand.
Fortunately, she remembered she had Electabuzz.
Chances are he would do the job nicely.
"Electabuzz!" exclaimed the electric Pokemon as he was sent out.
Azumarill fired a Bubblebeam at Electabuzz.
But she missed.
Electabuzz hit Azumarill with Thunderpunch.
It was a critical hit, so he hit Azumarill pretty hard.
"Azumarill!" exclaimed the water Pokemon as she was struck.
Azumarill fainted. Even putting the type disadvantage aside, Electabuzz packed a mean punch.
Electabuzz cheered.
"Good work!" exclaimed Chris.
Morgiana sent out Mr. Mime.
"Mime mime!" exclaimed the mime Pokemon.
No doubt he would use barriers to defend himself.
Chris decided to send out Fearow. Morgiana only had two Pokemon left so it seemed as good of a time to use him as any.
Chris instructed Fearow to use Drill Peck...
...only for him to crash into a barrier.
Fearow fainted from the impact. It was like crashing into a brick wall...which he had done sometimes as a Spearow.
She groaned.
It was time to use another Pokemon.
But she was going to have to find a way past those barriers.
Still, he had a type disadvantage against her Houndoom.
So she decided to use just that.
"Houndoom!" exclaimed the dark Pokemon.
Seeing a dark Pokemon made Mr. Mime feel nervous. He knew about the type disadvantage.
Things were so simple for him back when he was in Kanto. But then steel and dark Pokemon came along and he found himself facig much tougher opponents.
Unfortunately for him, Houndoom could sniff out the barriers and found an opening.
The dark Pokemon used Crunch, and Mr. Mime fainted.
"Mr. Mime..." murmured the mime Pokemon, who collapsed on the floor.
His barriers hadn't been enough to defend him from the hound.
Seemed his barriers had failed to protect him from the dark Pokemon.
"Oh look, he's mimicking a fainted Pokemon." remarked Chris.
She knew what Morgiana's last Pokemon was going to be.
It was the mighty Wigglytuff.
Houndoom used Fire Blast on the balloon Pokémon.
The pink Pokemon recoiled from the flames.
Unfortunately for Chris, Wigglytuff wasn't burned. So she didn't suffer from an attack reduction as a result.
Though she did still take some damage.
Unfortunately, Wigglytuff would make Electabuzz faint as well. She hit Electabuzz with Hyper Voice.
Chris had Nidoking use Thrash, only for Wigglytuff to use Attract in retaliation.
This left Nidoking a sitting Psyduck.
Wigglytuff used Body Slam, and Nidoking fainted.
Because all of her other Pokemon had fainted at that point, Jigglypuff and Wigglytuff ended up fighting each other once again.
"You think you'll win this time?" asked Morgiana.
"Well, everyone in Johto is kind of counting on me." explained Chris.
If she didn't stop her, then who would?
Besides, Jigglypuff had gotten stronger, and Wigglytuff had been weakened by her earlier fights.
And Wigglytuff couldn't use Attract on Jigglypuff either, because they were the same gender.
Jigglypuff and Wigglytuff both used Hyper Voice.
It was loud enough to shatter the windows on the top of the tower.
"That is a lot of noise..." remarked Chris.
Hopefully her hearing wouldn't be impaired after this.
Jigglypuff and Wigglytuff charged at each other for a Body Slam attack.
Ultimately, Jigglypuff came out on top.
And Wigglytuff fainted.
"Well well well, you actually managed to defeat me." noted Morgiana. She couldn't recall the last time she lost a Pokemon battle. She was just that good.
Not as good as the champion himself, but still rather good.
At that very moment, the other three heroes stepped in.
"Are you going to disband Team Shadow next?" asked Jake.
"Ha! You wish." answered Morgiana.
If anything this was her team's finest hour.
Ned gulped.
She placed the CD into the record player.
"From now on, Johto belongs to me!" exclaimed the leader of Team Shadow.
It was the beginning of a new age.
"No!" exclaimed Jake, his eyes widening with fear.
Was this the end of their days as a Pokemon trainer?
He had worked pretty hard.
Suddenly, the theme song for Pokemon began to play, regarding catching all the Pokemon there were...as impossible of a task it may seem.
Morgiana's eyes widened with shock.
For our heroes, it was more of a pleasant surprise.
"What? This isn't my CD!" exclaimed Morgiana.
She realized that someone must have switched out the CDs.
But who could have done such a thing?
Judging from the surprised reaction on the four heroes' faces...it was not they who are responsible.
But who else would want to do that?
She didn't think Horace would betray her. And he could keep Violet and Larry in line.
"Looking for something?" asked a familiar voice coming from the elevator.
"What?!" shouted the Team Shadow Executive.
As it turned out, it was Sarah.
"You!" exclaimed the head executive, pointing at the former Team Shadow Grunt.
As it turned out, she was holding onto the real CD.
Morgiana glared at the former Team Shadow Grunt.
"Give me that!" demanded Team Shadow's leader.
Unfortunately for Morgiana, as she attempted to grab the CD, Totodile bit into it and snapped it in two.
"Totodile!" cheered the water Pokemon.
Her eyes widened in shock.
"You little brat!" exclaimed the woman.
It looked like she was going to have to make another CD later...which would mean hijacking the Radio Tower again.
In retaliation, she attempted to grab Sarah for revenge.
But at that very moment, she tripped and made the leader of Team Shadow lose her balance.
Morgiana fell out the window.
"Aaaahhh!" exclaimed the leader of the organization.
"That felt satisfying." remarked Murkrow.
The police were waiting for her below, carrying a bag.
It seemed they were prepared for this sort of situation.
"Get ready to catch her!" exclaimed one of the cops.
As soon as she fell in, they tied up the bag to prevent escape.
"Let me out! Let me out or I'll take your Pokemon away from you!" exclaimed Morgiana.
"Oh dear, we're going to need to make extra sure she doesn't break out of prison." noted the police officer.
Morgiana screamed.
"I guess that's the end of Team Shadow." noted Jake.
Nearby, Horace realized what had happened.
It seemed Morgiana had been captured by the authorities.
And he wasn't sure which facility in Johto she would be sentenced to.
Not yet, anyway.
"Does this mean you're in charge now?" asked Larry.
"I suppose." nodded the man.
"What should we do?" questioned Violet.
"I'm disbanding Team Shadow." explained Horace.
Violet and Larry sighed. They were afraid that he was going to say that.
The two of them decided to make a break for it.
Unfortunately, the police were waiting for them.
"Put your hands up!" exclaimed the cops.
The two of them groaned. It looked as if they were busted.
Horace voluntarily turned himself in.
He had started to feel guilty about his actions.
Fortunately for Sarah, she was pardoned for her actions for her role in saving Johto from Morgiana.
If it weren't for her, Morgiana would have definitely won.
Now that Team Shadow was gone, our heroes plotted their next course of action.
"What should we do now?" asked Chris. She enjoyed fighting evil.
"Well, I heard that there are environmental criminals in Hoenn..." noted Ned. Something about increasing the land or increasing the water.
"Isn't the Pokemon League coming soon?" questioned Lucy.
"Yeah..." nodded the boy.
It would be a shame to miss out on that.
It didn't seem like the two criminal organizations were plotting anything big at the moment.
And besides, maybe they were plotting against each other.
So they might as well work on getting their final gym badge.
According to the map, the last badge just so happened to be in Blackthorn City.
The gym leader there happened to specialize in dragons...much like Lance.
In order to get there, they would have to go through the Ice Path.
Perhaps that was where Pryce liked to do his training.
After all, it wasn't exactly far from Mahogany Town.
Perhaps the man selling Ragecandybars was gone so that they could finally get through.
Luckily, Lucy had some coats they could wear.
Clefairy hadn't stolen them...but she had been tempted to. They were warm and fluffy.
At least she never tried to steal other people's Pokemon.
There were things even she wouldn't steal.
Besides, there were people that would try to steal her from her Pokemon trainer.
Well, that's the end of Team Shadow. Aren't you glad that they're gone?
Now that they're gone, our heroes can get back to their Pokemon journey. They've probably fought enough evil for one day.
There won't be a Kanto arc in this fanfic because A Typical Pokemon Journey was basically one giant Kanto arc. I know this is based off of Pokemon Gold and Silver but still.
