Hello, everyone!

Thank you for reading this story! As of now, it is currently my most followed and longest fanfic I have uploaded here. As much as I promised myself to never abandon a popular story, sadly I decided that I will not be continuing this story. Here are my reasons for discontinuing:

1. Not satisfied with the story's depiction of mental health issues.

And when I say "not satisfied", I mean literally cringing while thinking of it.

I have not read all the reviews I received following the beginning of my 5-year hiatus, though I would not be surprised if there are a few criticizing the representation of mental illnesses. If anyone was offended reading, I am very sorry. Looking back, I could have done more research into the illnesses, rather than looking up the symptoms and writing my own interpretations of them. For example, depression is more than people crying and bipolar disorders is more than people changing their moods in a snap of a finger. Mental illnesses not only make people feel like crap, but also negatively influences how they live their lives and personal relationships with others. I would have emphasized more on that.

In addition, associating mental illnesses with a serial killer does not sit well with me now. Even if serial killers in real life probably did have a disorder, I also do not want to entirely suggest that people suffering from them with them are deranged and psychotic, and having illnesses makes people exempt from these crimes.

2. Change of interest

When I started this story, I was very interested in Nintendo games, especially the Super Smash Bros universe. Now, I'm more into writing Hetalia fanfics and original works. Although I generally remember how this story's characters were, I wouldn't find it enjoyable to write about them. In addition, I'm not up-to-date with all the characters added to Super Smash Bros Ultimate, so I think in regards to the SSB fandom, this story might be outdated.

Potential Endings

To offer some closure, here are the potential endings I considered for this story.

1. "Marth did nothing wrong" ending

Basically, Roy and his friends manage to gather and rally a bunch of people against the insane asylum. Under pressure, the asylum is forced to release Marth and is later investigated by the law.

Given the reveal of Marth's true identity and background, the Pheraes decide to reunite Marth with his biological family. While Elice and Liza (to some extent) reaccept him, Cornelius rejects Marth, leading to a fight between the Pheraes and Lowells.

Afterwards, Marth runs away from home. The Pheraes find him at the beach and reassure that he belongs with them. Everyone lives happily ever after.

2. "Marth dies a hero" ending

Unlike the first ending, Roy and his friends are unable to convince people to join their cause. As a result, they plan to break Marth free from the asylum themselves. While they managed to do so successfully, they are caught in the progress, leading the workers to chase them through the city. The workers are specifically ordered by Garnef to bring Marth back at any cost, even if they have to kill either of the boys.

The boys are eventually cornered. In the midst of the violence, Marth takes a bullet intended for Link. As the workers flee, Marth dies from his injury before the ambulance arrives. A description notes that the insane asylum was shut down after investigations.

The story jumps several years later, when Roy is a married man with a successful art career. After taking his son to an art exhibit, the two go to the same beach where Marth was first found. Through dialogue, we learn that Roy named his son after Marth.

3. "Marth is reformed ending"

While imprisoned, Marth finally snaps, leading him to break from his confines again. He manages to kill most of the asylum workers before escaping back into the city.

As he runs through and hides in the city, Marth is reminded of all the bad things that happened him via seeing the same thing repeated to other people. This triggers him to start another killing spree to rid the city of all the bad people, even if some of the people's actions were actually misinterpreted.

Somehow, as Marth is fleeing from the police, he runs into Roy again. Roy expresses his shock and disappointment at Marth, who tries to justify his actions due to the fact that his family and society made him like this. Roy retorts that while Marth's past was horrible, he should not use it to become a killer. Eventually, Marth is convinced to turn himself in. He is taken to another institution to get help.

A few years later, Marth is released from the institution and is reunited with his family and friends.

Final Words

I think I was considering the first ending to be the official ending. However, if I still had the motivation, I would have made the ending a mixture of the second and third one, since they are probably more realistic and actually carry a sensible message.

Again, I'm glad to hear that people enjoyed reading this story despite all of its flaws. While I'm not going to rewrite it, I'm considering writing a super long oneshot just to give closure to y'all. I don't know when I'm going to start on it, but I'll just upload it whenever I can.

Even though I am admittedly not too proud of my SSB fanfics, I'm leaving most of them up for nostalgia's sake. I'm very surprised that some people still return to my profile and read my stories. If you are trapped in the rabbit hole known as Hetalia, feel free to check out my Hetalia fanfics! I also opened a poll, so please vote if you're interested!

Peace out,
