Chapter 55

.

After his meeting with Carpathia president Odonnell called the alien ambassador. Over the previous negotiations the president had realized that this ambassador was different then him. They started off almost exactly the same, but they had been through different experiences. Ryan Odonnell was nearly 90, but he wondered if he was a rookie compared to this ambassador.

.

Odonnell: I spoke with Carpathia. He offered us peace, and the right of people on any side to immigrate to another world.

Ambassador: Do you trust him?

Odonnell: I don't trust anyone whose chosen profession is politics. Particularly not myself.

Ambassador: Funny.

Odonnell: In all seriousness I don't trust him not to break the truce. That said, Lucci and the others couldn't break through to Hell before our little visit. Carpathia, or whoever he really represents, allowed it. If we agree to this, they might be able to break through again. We could rescue others.

Ambassador: That's good thinking. Give them a real chance to atone for their past sins, and give our people a chance to atone by participating in rescue efforts.

Odonnell; Can Antarctica handle all of these refugees?

Ambassador: There's no way to know, until we try. Would America be willing to shoulder the burden?

Odonnell: I honestly don't know. I seriously suggest talking to other world leaders as well.

Ambassador: I will.

Odonnell: Good. I don't know if war can be avoided forever, but I'm willing to try. And if it can't, we can at least give some more people a shot at Heaven.

Ambassador: If nothing else we can try.
