Chapter 38

Callie had not been in Miami for close to four years. Now she was bringing her wife to her mom's house to spend the holidays. 'Calliope… it's so hot here compared to Seattle.' Arizona said. It was a very pleasant 75 degrees and the sun was shining brightly.

'Yeah, it gets really hot in the summer time. I like that it snows in Seattle. Feels more like Christmas to me.' Callie said.

They had just pulled up to Lucia's house and got the luggage out of the rental car's trunk. They arrived after a long flight and were now three hours ahead of what they were used to. They were exhausted already. The front door opened suddenly and Lucia ran out of the house. 'Calliope! Arizona! I'm so happy you are here. How are my grandbabies treating you Mija?'

'Everyone is fine Mami. How are you?' Callie asked as she was pulled into a tight hug by her mother.

'I am wonderful. I have been looking forward to your visit for weeks now. Arizona, how are you?' she asked hugging the other woman.

'I can't complain Lucia. Life is pretty good right now.'

'Come, let's go inside. I have made dinner. I hope you can handle some spice Arizona. I made chicken and rice.' Lucia turned and started to go back into the house.

'That doesn't sound very spicy.' Arizona said as she picked up their suitcases.

'You haven't had Mami's chicken and rice yet. It's very tasty, but you definitely need something to drink to go with it.'

The women settled into one of the guest rooms and made their way down to the kitchen where Lucia was plating their food. 'Girls, sit down. I will bring the food in. I know you must be tired after your flight.' Lucia was so happy to be able to spend the holidays with Callie and Arizona. She only wished that Aria would come around. Her girls were close growing up and she wanted that for them again especially after seeing the tight bond the Robbins children had. She shook her head of those sad thoughts and picked up the plates of food.

'This looks delicious.' Arizona said as the steaming plate of food was placed in front of her. She had not eaten since that morning and she was starving.

Lucia brought out three waters from the kitchen and took her place at the table. 'So how are things at the hospital?' she asked.

'They are good. I have been working on my cartilage research a lot more as these two are getting bigger. I had to put it on the back burner for a little while. I'm happy that I can get back to it now.' Callie said to her mother.

Arizona had just swallowed a big mouthful of the spicy rice. 'Oh my… Wow, that is spicy.' She grabbed her water and drank it all down. 'You weren't kidding Calliope. That is spicy. My eyes are watering.'

'Arizona, are you ok? Let me get you some more water.' Lucia ran back to the kitchen for another water bottle.

'Here, Sweetie. Take mine.' Callie handed her wife her water, but could not hide the fact that she was laughing at how the spice affected Arizona. Callie could tell that her mother had even held back a little. Arizona took the offered bottle and guzzled that down as well.

'It's not funny Calliope. That's spicy!' Arizona said.

'I'm sorry. You're right, it's not funny.' Callie said still laughing.

Lucia returned with another water. 'I'm so sorry Arizona. I didn't think I put that much spice in it this time. Calliope, stop laughing at your wife!' Callie had to bite her lip to keep herself from laughing anymore.

'It's ok. It just caught me a little off guard. It is still really good.'

They had ice cream to extinguish the fire that the spicy dinner lit in their mouths. They were now relaxing on the couches. 'Tell me what else has been going on. There has to be more. That hospital is always buzzing about something.'

'Lexie Grey transferred to the hospital.' Callie said.

'Lexie…Amber's Lexie?' Lucia asked.

'Yeah. They pretty much run the ER together. She's really nice.' Callie turned to look at Arizona. 'Do you want to tell her the other news?'

'What other news?' Lucia asked.

Arizona nodded. 'We found out the sex of the babies. We are having… a boy and a girl!'

'Dios mio. One of each! That is incredible. We don't have many boys in the family. Do you have names picked out yet?' Lucia asked.

'We haven't really discussed them yet, but I have a few that I have running through my head.' Callie said. Just as she let out a huge yawn.

'You two must be tired. We can talk more tomorrow. Go get some rest.' Lucia said as Arizona too let out a massive yawn.

They made their way up to the bedroom and got into their pajamas. 'We'll have to discuss those baby names soon Calliope. I love you.' Arizona said pressing a kiss to her wife's lips.

'We will.' Callie said pulling the covers up. She was snoring before Arizona could even put her arm around her.

The next day, the Lucia wanted to take the girls shopping. Now that she knew that she was going to have a grandson AND and a granddaughter, she wanted to spoil her yet to be born grandchildren. 'Calliope, let me buy things for my grandkids. They deserve it.' Lucia was pleading with her daughter. Callie knew her mother was going to go overboard and buy the entire store. They would have way more than they would ever need.

'Calliope. Come on. Let's go shopping with your mom. It'll be fun.' Arizona said.

'Arizona, honey, I know my mom. She will buy too much. We will have clothes for these kids that they will never wear because she will buy so much.' Callie argued.

Arizona pulled Callie to the side. 'Calliope, your mom just wants to be a grandmother. She wants to spoil our kids. They're her first grandkids and she lives thousands of miles away. Let her do what she wants to do. Please, for me?' Arizona grabbed Callie's hand and kissed her knuckles.

'Ugh…fine. We won't have enough room in our suitcases to take everything home. I'm telling you.' Callie said.

'I'll ship it to you!' Lucia exclaimed. 'This is going to be so much fun! Let's get ready and head to the mall.' And like that they were headed to the Miami mall.

The mall was absolutely packed being so close to the holidays. Last minute shoppers swarming in and out of the many stores, lines that were at least ten people deep. It was chaotic. 'God, I'm glad I don't work in retail right now. They deserve a medal for working through this mess.' Arizona said as they walked towards the kids clothing store.

Callie squeezed Arizona's hand a little tighter. They were getting bumped and knocked into. They finally made it to the clothing store and Arizona grabbed a shopping basket. Callie's mood instantly changed once she saw all of the little onesies and booties. Little kids clothes were just the cutest thing. Lucia was having a blast. She couldn't have been more thrilled that Callie agreed to go shopping. Her grandchildren deserved to be spoiled even before they were born.

'Oh Calliope, look!' Arizona was holding up a pink and blue onesie that said I Love My Mommy. She placed them in the basket. No question. They were buying those. Lucia grabbed clothes of every color she could find. Socks, pants, shirts, bibs, and even a few stuffed animals were thrown into the basket.

They spent close to two hours in the clothing store before they decided they had enough for the twins. For now. They made their way to the massive line that was almost out the door. 'Now we wait.' Lucia said. The line moved at a snail's pace. The happy shoppers holding conversations with the exhausted cashiers. The women were unaware of the person shifting back and forth, staring at them from outside of the store.

After waiting in the very long line, Callie's feet were hurting. 'Mami, we need to sit. My feet are killing me.'

'Of course, Mija. Would you like to eat something? We can take a break from shopping for awhile.'

'Yes, please.' Callie said. She hoped Arizona would give her a foot rub when they got back to the house. They made their way to the restaurant unaware of the person following closely, but quietly behind them.

The restaurant had a bit of a wait before they could be seated. Callie was fidgeting on her feet from side to side. Luckily, a very kind gentleman gave up his seat in the waiting area so that Callie could sit. She sat down and sighed out in relief. They were seated in a booth. Arizona sat first and slid into the booth to the wall. Callie sat next to her knowing that she would probably need to use the restroom at some point during lunch. Callie propped her feet up on the seat next to her mother. Arizona squeezed her thigh seeing the relief wash over Callie's face. The waitress came up to them and they ordered waters before taking some time to look over the menu.

Sure enough, Callie had to use the restroom as soon as she was comfortable. She excused herself from the table and made her way to the women's restroom. The person following them saw their opportunity. They stood from the bar where they were waiting and started towards the restroom also. Callie had just locked the stall when she heard the door open again and footsteps of someone entering the restroom. Callie handled her business and exited the stall to wash her hand. The other occupant of the restroom had not moved since taking a couple of steps into the room. Callie did not notice them standing there until she turned to grab some paper towels.

She gasped and jumped back. Not only did the person startle her, she just did not expect to ever see this person again in her lifetime. 'Aria…'

The woman took a couple of steps closer to her. 'Um… hey Callie.' They stood there awkwardly for a few minutes before Aria's eyes traveled to Callie's stomach. 'You're pregnant!'

'Yeah… Six months…Twins actually. What, um… how have you been?' Callie could not believe that her sister was standing in front of her. They hadn't spoken in years.

'Busy. Good, but busy. I saw you with Mami and a blonde woman. Who was that?' Aria asked.

'Yeah. That's Arizona. We got married in September. She's my wife.' She shifted back and forth on her feet, still not sure how to act. 'Would you, uh…would you like to join us for lunch? Mami has been shopping for the twins.'

'I'm not sure that is a good idea. I haven't talked to Mami in such a long time.' Aria said looking ashamed.

The restroom door opened and Arizona stepped into the room. 'Calliope, Baby, you've been in here awhile, are y…' she stopped talking when she noticed the other woman.

'I'm fine Arizona. This is Aria. My…um, sister.'

Arizona made her way to her wife's side and wrapped her arm around her resting her hand on her hip. 'Everything alright?'

'I was just asking Aria if she wanted to join us for lunch. It seems like we have a lot to catch up on.' Callie said leaning into the smaller woman.

'Ok then. What do you say Aria? It's nice to meet you by the way. I'm Arizona Robbins-Torres.' Arizona said sticking her hand out for the other woman.

'If Mami wants me to join you, I will join you.' Aria finally said after a minute.

They exited the restroom and made their way to the table. Lucia's back was to the restroom so she did not see the women approach. Arizona and Callie sat down. Aria slowly walked into her mother's line of sight. Lucia looked up at the figure standing at the side of the table and gasped. 'Aria! Oh, my beautiful Aria.' she stood up and engulfed her oldest daughter in a bone crushing hug.

'Mami…' Aria said as she returned the embrace.
