Hello, all.
Yes, I haven't updated in several months, but we're just gonna ignore that.
Annnyway. I pre-wrote some stuff in November and I'll start posting weekly again in December, which starts now seeing as it's December first.
Somewhat important notice:
After getting to chapter 50 of this story (I've actually already planned out all of the one-shots to that point and written some of them.) I'm going to mark it as complete. I'm in my last year of high school and I still have lots of fic ideas left to write, but I'm trying to revise and write and post all of the rest of the one-shots and stories I have ideas for before I go off to school in the fall. I might still write then, but I'd like to start writing novels, and not feel pressure to update on here because people are waiting for it and only post things if I have an idea and feel like it. So I already revised all of the Wack one-shots back in May and now I'm going through and doing it with my USM stories. But after chapter 50 this story will officially be "complete" however, that doesn't mean I won't post anymore. But more people search for completed stories than incomplete stories, so I feel like more people will find and read this that way. So be sure to follow this story or me so that you'll be notified if I update this. Anyway, that won't be coming for a while, but I wanted you guys to know what to expect with my stories going forward.
(I'm re-posting this because I forgot to reply to reviews! =0)
Review Replies:
Sairey13: Wow, that is a really cool idea. I'm not sure if I could write that very well, but I'll definitely keep that idea on the back burner to see if there's something I can do with it, or if you write, I'd love to read your version of it!
Msteryfan17: Nice! Yup. I love quotes and had a lot of fun doing that chapter. (Spsst. Spoiler Alert: There may or may not be a part two to that one-shot coming soon...) I'm glad this gave you something to enjoy during your lunch break!
Msteryfan17: Thank you so much for your long in-depth reviews. I thoroughly enjoyed reading them and they made writing these all the more fun. I...love that idea. I know you wrote this review several months ago, but I did put it on my lists, and I already named the one-shot and planned it out. And my brother and I just watched Home Alone for the first time the other night so that made me even more excited to write this one. So be on the look-out for that. I'm glad you enjoyed these so much, and thank you again for the reviews!
SarahFlynn: Thank you so much! Your review really made my day. I'm glad you've enjoyed this collection so much. And there are plenty more one-shots to come! I'm also glad to hear that the prayer helped you. Go really put it on my heart to put that there and I'm glad it was able to help at least one person. :) I hope you enjoy this one-shot as much as the others!
Enjoy the story!

1. You've got troubles, I've got them too.
"Hey, Rob!" Wally said, punching Weather Wizard in the face.
"Hey, KF. What's up?" Robin's voice came over his communicator followed by a grunt.
"Wanna catch that new murder mystery movie we saw the trailer for? I saw it was playing in Gotham tonight." Wally said, dodging a punch, sticking his foot out to trip Weather Wizard.
"You mean Knives Out? Yeah, it looked-" There was another grunt and a faint explosive sound in the background. "-good. What time's it playing?"
"Dude, are you in the middle of something?" KF asked, doing a swift punch to Weather Wizard's face, effectively knocking the villain out.
Wally heard the "click, snap!" of handcuffs before Robin answered. "Nope. Just wrapping up."
Wally could hear the smirk in his voice. "Dude, you're so slow. I knocked mine out a whole 30 seconds before you knocked yours out," he teased.
Wally pictured Dick rolling his eyes, as he heard the rush of air on the other side of the communicator, signaling that Dick was swinging away on his grappling hook. He heard the thud as he landed on a roof.
"Yeah, yeah. Not all of us have superspeed Kid Mouth," Robin teased back. "Now, are we gonna catch the movie, or what?"
"Yeah. It starts at four. I'll be at your house in ten minutes. K?"
Robin gasped, in mock surprise. "Now who's slow?"
"Dude! I gotta wait for Flash to come pick up this bozo!" Wally cried, in mock offense.
Robin sighed. "Such a disappointment," he tsked.
Wally laughed. "Whatever. Catch you soon Bird Brain."
"Later, Kid Crash."
2. There isn't anything I wouldn't do for you.
Wally sighed, running a hand down his face, causing his red hair to fall in front of his eyes. He couldn't remember the last time he'd felt so done with life. He really wanted to just sleep for a week and avoid all people.
He heard his phone go off. He glanced at where it was sitting on the nightstand, debating if it was actually worth it to get up to get it from where he had been lying on his bed ignoring the world for the last ten minutes. It went off again, so he huffed and sat up to grab it.
2 unread messages from Dick (Bro)
Fine. Avoid most people for a week.
D: Last-minute training session in 20 mins
D: And yes, it's mandatory
Wally rubbed his eyes, shutting off his phone. That was the LAST thing he wanted to do. Too bad he had opened the texts. Otherwise, he could have just said he hadn't seen them. At this point though, Dick was probably staring at the word 'seen' on his screen waiting for him to reply. Would he notice if he just ignored him? Probably.
D: What's up? I saw you saw the texts. You always reply immediately.
Wally groaned, frustrated. He was really hoping to avoid questioning for a few more hours because he did not have the energy today.
W: I'm fine
D: Lies
W: Later
D: Fine
He sighed, dropping his head into his hands. Even that small interaction had drained anything that had been left of his social energy. He looked at the clock. 18 minutes until training. He better head to the zeta.
...
"Recognized: Kid Flash. B03."
He looked around and could see the team scattered about. He didn't see Artemis or Kaulder, but Connor and M'gann were in the kitchen talking about something, with M'gann giggling.
He spotted Robin over on the den couch. He went over and plopped down beside him, throwing his head back and closing his eyes. Maybe the couch would swallow him up and then he wouldn't have to go to training.
He felt Dick's hand on his wrist to acknowledge his presence, but couldn't bring himself to acknowledge him back.
He must have been ghosting for the next fifteen minutes because the next thing he knew Dick was squeezing his shoulder telling him it was time for training.
Training went horribly. Artemis had mocked him the whole time, and he had lost every fight. By that point, he was just ready to sleep and not think about anything or anyone anymore. He took a quick shower and headed to his room, his hair still dripping wet. He put in the passcode and was greeted with the sight of Dick sitting on his bed doing something on his phone.
"It's later."
Wally sighed, flopping down on the bed next to him.
"School wasn't great."
"Elucidate."
"Bullies. I wouldn't do their stupid homework."
Dick winced in sympathy. "What else?"
"Isn't that enough?"
"Yeah, but that's not the only thing bothering you."
"Have I ever told you I hate it when you're right?"
"Yup."
He hesitated. "I...went to see my dad today."
Dick inhaled sharply. "Walls..."
"He was talking to Barry, and he wanted to see me, and Barry wasn't going to let me, but it's been over a year since I last saw him and I don't know. I thought he'd have changed or something."
"What did he want?"
"Honestly? I think...I think he just missed having something to beat up. He didn't have much to say other than anything in the form of degrading comments and verbal abuse."
"Dude, that sucks."
"Yeah." He sighed, shutting his eyes. A few minutes of silence later, Dick piped up.
"Hey, I have an idea."
...
A couple of hours later Wally found himself in the attic of Wayne Manor. He and Dick had built a fort in the corner out of sheets and pillows and the long-forgotten furniture in the attic. They were eating popcorn, and watching Coco on Dick's laptop.
Wally caught Dick's eye and smiled.
Thank you.
Dick smirked back.
Of course.
3. We'll stick together and see it through.
"Oof," Wally grit his teeth, standing up. Stupid criminals. These guys were pretty mid-tier when it came to super villain ranking, but there were so many of them, and they had gotten their hands on some pretty high tech weapons.
Wally launched himself off the wall and flipped mid-air to land on top of one of the guys, knocking him off balance, then he used the momentum to go running full speed at another guy, and swiftly knocked him out.
Wally saw a familiar cape soaring above him, and braced himself as Robin landed in a handstand on his shoulders, and launched himself into a kick at the next guy. Wally ducked a fist, and elbowed the guy in the stomach, before yanking a strap off of the guy's uniform before picking up speed again. He quickly slid under the next guy's legs and used the strap to catch one of his ankles, sending him flying into the floor.
He stood up, ready to take off running at the next guy when something slammed into him, sending him crashing to the ground. He looked up in time to see a foot coming down to crush him, and he quickly rolled out of the way, getting to his feet. This guy was huge. He had to be on cobra venom. Therefore confirming their suspicions that that was what these guys had been smuggling.
"Rob-!"
"On it!" He said, throwing a grenade at the cobra-venom-junkie's back.
Kid Flash ran around him, doing a sharp turn, to avoid being crushed by the falling giant. He quickly scooped up Robin as bullet holes littered the place where they just stood.
Wally stumbled slightly when there was a loud bang and the whole building seemed to shake.
"Supes, that you?" Wally asked over the mind link.
Superboy grunted in response. Wally grinned, setting Robin down. "Didn't know you could grunt over a mind link. But of course, Supes would."
"Yeah," Rob agreed, throwing several exploding birdarings at the bad guys from where he was positioned behind several crates.
"Woah!" Robin heard as he fell to the ground, something falling on top of him.
Robin heard the weight on top of him groan, deducing that it was KF. He pushed him off, seeing one of the bad guys standing there with a metal pole. Robin looked up, seeing a catwalk not high above them where the guy had probably jumped down from. Wally must have seen him and knocked Robin out of the way.
He quickly threw a punch at the guy, which he was able to dodge. The metal pole was swung at Robin, but he managed to grab it and pull the guy forward, catching him off guard enough that he was able to shove him to the ground and yank the pole out of his hand. He quickly pulled the handcuffs from his belt, straddling the guy, pinning his arms behind his back. But the guy unexpectedly turned over kicking Robin off, and somehow in the scuffle one of the cuffs had fastened itself around Robin's wrist. Robin growled, annoyed. He punched the guy, effectively knocking him out.
He ran over to where Wally was still hunched over on the ground, clasping his head.
"Hey, KF. You alright?"
Wally grit his teeth. "Yeah, yeah. Can't believe that doofus got the drop on us though," He said looking up. There was a trail of blood going down his face that disappeared into his hairline, but Dick could see that it was already scabbing over. It would definitely be tender until at least tomorrow though.
"Here, let me get that," Wally said, reaching for the pocket of the utility belt with the key to the handcuffs.
Before he got a chance to though, shots were being fired in their direction again, and they could hear Superboy and Kaulder fighting. KF quickly sped them out of the way, and went to put Robin down when-
"Shoot."
"KF!"
"I didn't mean to!"
Robin groaned seeing that the other part of the handcuff had somehow gotten clamped onto Wally's wrist in his haste to get them to safety.
"Just let me-"
"I can undo it, just-"
"Wait, move your hand-"
"Kid, Robin, MOVE." Kaulder's voice came over the mind link. KF yelped, seeing Mr. Steriods coming back to attack them. He swung his arm in front of Robin, scooping him up, running around the guy, and coming to a stop behind him.
"K, on my mark we jump on his shoulders, stick this and get off the other side, Get it?"
"Got it," Kid Flash replied.
"Good."
Steroids turned around, charging at them.
"Now!" They both jumped.
They used their free hands to catch and steady themselves on his shoulders, before using their caught hands to stick the exploding birdarings on him, and then they launched themselves to the other side.
"Run!" They ran out of the range of the explosives and the big guy going down.
"Great, let's take down those guys." Robin said, pointing. They quickly busted into a group of bad guys, Kid Flash using both of his hands to grab Robin's, swinging him around in a circle to knock out the guys with his steel-toed boots.
"Batta Batta Batta, swing batter!" Wally laughed, as the last of the guys fell to the ground. Wally grinned, as he brought Robin to a stop. "I even brought my own BAT."
Robin grinned back, cackling.
Superboy and Kaulder came up to them.
"Artemis and Miss Martian will rendevous with us at the bioship in ten. Superboy and I were able to obtain the information the Batman ordered."
"Great!" Wally said, grinning.
Superboy frowned at them. "How were you able to keep fighting so well even though you guys were stuck together?"
Wally and Dick looked at each other grinning.
"It's like they say Supes. Friends stick together," Wally said, giving Robin a fist bump with their none stuck together hands.
Robin just cackled at Supderboy's puzzled expression.
4. Some other folks might be a little bit smarter than I am. Bigger and stronger too, maybe.
Ugh. History. His least favorite subject. It's not that Dick thought it was bad to learn about or a boring subject per se. But Mrs. Meyer hated his guts. He's not sure why, but she'd always disliked him and he was positive she was trying to make the subject as boring as possible, specifically to get at him. This is how he found himself zoning out in class once again, but it's not his fault she was droning on, and on, and on, and it was so hard to pay attention to.
"-Thirteenth-century, the ideas of the ancient philosophers, Aristotle and Plato, completely dominated European thought until the sixteenth-century. Then scientists such as Copernicus, Kepler, Galileo, and Newton set the Western world on a new path which we now call the Scientific Revolution. In addition to observing the natural world, as the philosophers did, they designed experiments to test possible explanations-"
"ROB!"
Dick jerked up in his seat. Luckily he was in the back corner so no one noticed, but his ears were still ringing from the shout. He looked around for a second confused at where it had come from.
"ROB! Come on dude, pick up. I need help, like NOW."
His communicator! He forgot he had left it in this morning. He tapped it, trying to be subtle.
"Wally?" Dick said, under his breath, his eyes flitting between the teacher and the students around him to make sure he wasn't caught. That'd be a disaster. Heavy on the dis.
"Dude! There's a bomb, Flash isn't here, I don't know how to disarm it and it's got like less than 5 minutes left and I can't move it-"
Shoot. This is bad. "Wally, I'm in clath," He whispered, making sure not to say the "s" in class because everyone knows that when you're whispering "s" are the loudest and the most easily picked up.
"Rob, I'm trapped with civilians and I can't move the bomb. People are gonna die if I can't get this thing diffused in the next 4 minutes and I need you to tell me what to do."
Crapcrapcrapcrapcrap.
Dick's hand shot in the air, bringing the teacher's and the students' eyes to him. "Um, Mrs. Meyer, could I please get a bathroom pass?"
She huffed but begrudgingly allowed him to go, but by the time she actually wrote it up and handed it to him a minute had probably already passed. Dick bolted to his locker. "Okay, dude you with me?"
"Yeah, yeah."
"K." He quickly grabbed his hidden utility belt and glove out of it before running to the nearest bathroom. He did a quick glance to make sure he was alone before going into one of the stalls and opening up the computer on his glove.
"Okay, open your glove computer."
"Done."
"How much time?"
"2:53."
"Open the scanner and tell me which wires are highlighted orange on it."
"Got it. There's three."
"Is one next to a blue wire?"
"Yeah."
"Not that one, are there any on their own?"
"Yeah."
"Cut it. Fast and clean."
A pause. "Done."
"See the circuit board?"
"Yeah, there's two though."
"One's a fake and will probably cut the time in half. See one that has a model number over 10 digits?"
"Yeah."
"Fake. Smash it and then quickly remove the silver chip on the real one."
One second.
Two seconds.
Three.
A sigh of relief.
"D-Done. Oh my gosh."
Dick also breathed a sigh of relief.
"Thanks, Rob. You're a lifesaver. Literally."
"Great. I've got to get back to class before my teacher kills me but I'll call when I'm out, k?"
"Got it. Bye."
"Bye." Dick sighed and ran a hand over his face. Bruce would kill him if he found out he used his comm at school. Oh well. He quickly put his stuff back in his locker and headed back to class before Mrs. Meyer could chew him out.
5. But none of them will ever love you the way I do. Just me and you, boy.
"Hey, dude!"
Dick looked up from his seat on the couch in the den.
"How'd it go?" Wally asked as he plopped himself down on the green piece of furniture. Why someone would have chosen that color for all of the furniture was beyond him. But then he remembered that Uncle Barry had been in charge of getting the furniture for Mt. Justice back when the JLA used it and that it had been some kind of joke to make Uncle Hal mad. Regardless of whatever the prank was, the furniture ended up staying.
Dick glanced around, behind the tinted glass in front of his eyes, shaking his head.
Two seconds later, Wally had whizzed them to Dick's room where they could talk without being overheard. Bruce would kill him if he openly talked about his identity where the team could hear him.
"So? How was the "mission"?" Wally said in quotation marks, as Dick removed his glasses.
"It was...good." Dick knew Wally had read the reports already and knew about parasite and whatnot, so that's not the part he was talking about.
"Being back there actually felt...really good. It hurt at first. A lot. And it was hard to get used to being back there, but...being back on the trapeze, in the tent with all the lights and the crowd and everything. It reminded me of..."
"Of your family," Wally finished.
"Yeah."
"And was that...good or bad?"
"I think a bit of both. In the end, before we left, Pop Haley recognized me. He knew it was me the whole time. He asked us to do one last performance, so we did. And...I really do miss being there. I'd like to go back at some point. Sooner than 6 years from now," he said, cracking a smile. Wally grinned back. "Not permanently or anything, but definitely to visit, or even do a performance every once in a while maybe." He felt a hand on his shoulder and looked up to see Wally smiling.
"Take me with you one of those times?"
Dick grinned, going in to do their handshake, which Wally immediately returned. "Of course."
6. And as the years go by, our friendship will never die.
"It's amazing."
"Yeah," Dick breathed.
Both boys were sitting on a ledge near the top of Mt. Justice. They were admiring the sky that was littered with stars, and it was clear enough tonight to see the milky way.
"I can't believe this is it. It just...feels like a whole new chapter."
"Well, it is," Dick said, giving him a teasing nudge.
They were both still dressed up from the party. Wally was in a nice button-up but had the sleeves rolled up to his elbows because of the warm night. He also had on slacks, and dress shoes, and while his hair had been neat at some point in the evening, it was in its usual messy state now.
Dick was wearing a suit but had ditched the jacket earlier and also had his sleeves rolled up. His signature sunglasses were hooked in the pocket of his shirt, and his hair was starting to fall out of the gel cast it had been kept in all night.
They fell back into a comfortable silence.
"Hey, Dick?"
"Yeah?"
"I know I'm not going off to college yet, but...do you think we'll be ok?"
Wally stole a glance at his best friend. This is what he'd been most worried about these last few months. He hadn't really mentioned it, but...he knew things would be changing. He'd be off at college sometime in the next couple of years. And he'd be leaving everyone here behind. He didn't plan on going to college quite yet, seeing as he had graduated early and he figured he could take this time to just focus on being a superhero and maybe shadow his uncle in the lab a bit, but still. Everything was changing so fast. And that was saying something for him.
It felt like he didn't have control. It was almost like when he had first moved in with his aunt and uncle. He felt helpless. Like everything was going too fast. His anxiety on this subject had been building this entire last semester. Even before the graduation earlier today he felt like he was going to throw up; just from how fast the moment seemed to arrive. He had pulled himself together and had even enjoyed it, especially the party after that was at Mt. Justice. But towards the end, he just wanted a few moments of quiet and his best friend had decided to join him.
"Hey."
"Hey," Wally said, looking up as Dick decided to join him.
"Decided to escape for the night?"
"Nah, just wanted a quick break before going back for another round of snacks," He laughed.
"Suuuure, and this is like what? Your tenths? elevenths?"
"Something like that," He grinned.
He was drawn back to the moment when Dick answered.
"Yeah. Things will be different, but we'll be alright." Dick flashed him a grin and held out his knuckle.
Wally bumped it with his own, feeling the anxiety that had settled in his stomach begin to dissipate.
"Wanna head back?"
Wally paused, taking one last look at the sky. Yeah. They'd be alright. "Yeah. Race ya!"
"Wally!"
7. You've Got a Friend in Me
"Dude, that was awesome!" Dick said, as they high-fived.
...
"WHEN CAN I SEE YOU AGAIN?!"
Dick smashed the pillow over his head until the sound of his best friend's ringtone was muffled.
...
Wally grinned at him so wide he looked like the Cheshire cat. "Dude, I know that face," Dick said cackling.
...
"This is epic. Roy will never know what hit him." Wally grinned, looking around the booby-trapped apartment.
...
Dick could feel Wally's eyes burning holes into him as he told the team some elaborately fabricated story about how he broke his arm, and could barely keep from grinning at him.
...
"You're mean."
"And you fell down a hundred stairs."
Dick threw a pillow at him. "Shut up." Wally just laughed.
...
"Gee, Bruce Wayne sure got here fast. It's almost like-"
Dick nudged him. Hard. "Don't you have a souvenir to collect?"
Wally just smirked.
...
"Well then don't expect your Green Lantern sweatshirt back anytime soon." Dick snorted.
"Dude! I've been looking for that for weeks!" Wally exclaimed.
Dick smirked. "I know."
...
"Rob. I. Am. Not. Jumping. Off. This. Cliff." KF told him, glaring.
"Yes, you ar-re." Rob said in a sing-songy voice, he should have taken KF ziplining a lot sooner. This was hilarious. Before KF could react, Rob pushed him off the cliff.
KF screamed bloody murder.
"I HATE YOU ROBIN! DO YOU HEAR ME?! I HATE YOU! NO ONE WILL FIND YOUR BODY!" Wally screamed as he held on to the cord attaching him for dear life. Robin just cackled maniacally, and eventually started laughing so hard, he fell to the ground, tears coming out of his eyes.
...
"We can't save everyone Walls. We can only try." He told him softly.
"T-Then w-why-y d-do-o I-I fee-feel li-like-k I-I f-fail-led-d?" Wally sobbed, hiccuping horribly.
Dick sighed, carding his fingers through Wally's hair. "Because you tried your best and it wasn't good enough. But you have to move on. You can't let it tear you apart. Otherwise, it might stop you from saving someone else. You have to learn from your mistakes, and try harder next time."
Wally cried harder, his grip on Dick's hand tightening.
...
Robin ran over to Wally, crashing to his knees. He quickly reached for his neck, checking for a pulse. Wally gasped and choked, his hand weakly grabbing onto Dick's wrist. He watched his eyes, glazed over with panic.
"Shh, KF. It's alright." He said, trying to soothe his best friend.
"D-Did I get'em?" Wally asked.
Robin smirked, weakly. "Yeah. You got'em, buddy. You did great. Good job." He said, grasping his hand.
KF's lips twitched into a smile. "Thanks, Rob."
...
"I know, Dick. You made one heck of a leader. I'm so proud of you. I know Bruce would be too. Good job."
5 seconds left.
They did their handshake but didn't let go of each other's hands at the end.
"Thank you, Wally. For everything."
Wally nodded at him. "Thanks, Dick." Wally pulled him into a hug just as everything around them went up in a fiery explosion.
...
"Wally...Do...Do your parents, abuse you?"
"N-No. They never-theywouldn't-Ijust-I'm-I'm just clumsy." Wally said, fumbling for an excuse.
"Oh Wally, why didn't you tell me?"
Wally ran, but when he came back Dick gave him the fiercest hug he had ever given anyone before in his life. Because if anyone needed a hug like that, it was Wally.
...
Dick paused, his eyes still glued to his feet. He shivered slightly in the dreary weather, pulling his coat tighter around him. Finally, he glanced behind him, at the cemetery he had just come from, staring for a moment at one particular headstone.
"Bye, Walls."
Then he disappeared into the crowded sidewalks of the city.
Hope you guys enjoyed that one-shot.
I had a lot of fun writing this one and it took a while, but I'm pretty happy with this one.
Be sure to read part one in chapter 31 of this one-shot collection.
