Request from Can you make one where Daisy finds the cure for Coulson (season 5)? Thanks.
I hope you're all doing well :) Thanks for the kind comments and requests! They make my day!
The second Simmons said Coulson was dying, Daisy's mind began cooking up possible solutions. They had come too far, she wasn't going to lose the only father-figure she's ever known. For days her and May worked together, looking through all the resources they could think of until finally May had an idea. The pair had been sitting on May's bed, papers scattered all around them and their laptops open.
"Daisy." May gasped. "Of course. I can't believe I didn't think of this."
"May?" Daisy scooted over to peer over at May's laptop screen. "What is it? Did you find something?"
A few hours later, Daisy was sneaking off the base with coordinates scribbled on a piece of paper and a sat-phone. May had promised she'd cover for her and hugged her tight before sending Daisy off on one of the most important missions of her life. This was their last strand of hope for saving their favorite person.
As soon as she reached the coordinate points, Daisy called the number on the phone. She prayed this would work, because if it didn't there was no other option. The phone rang a couple times before someone answered, causing Daisy to jump.
"Who the hell is this, and how'd you get this number?" Nick Fury's intimidating voice rang through the phone.
"Sir, this is Agent Daisy Johnson of Shield. No- wait! Please don't hang up, it's about Phil Coulson!" Daisy rushed her words. "You're the only chance we have at saving him."
Daisy told him a quick summary of the ordeal and waited with bated breath. The seconds were ticking by and each moment caused Daisy to lose a little more hope. Finally, after what seemed like hours, Fury began to speak.
"Damn that Phil Coulson. How many times is he gonna brush with death, huh?" Daisy swallowed and didn't dare say a word.
"I have something. But once we use this, there's no more second or third chances, got it?"
That very same night Daisy met the former director of Shield at a classified location and got the last of the GH325 formula.
"That's the last of it, don't waste it." He ordered, "And for God's sake tell Coulson to be more careful."
Daisy nodded and thanked the man before she was on her way. She couldn't wait to tell May the good news. Coulson wouldn't be pleased with her, but right now she couldn't care less. He was going to live. She didn't have to let go and say goodbye to another person she cared about. The flight felt two times longer and as soon as she landed she sprinted into the base to find May. She dashed into the older agents room, slightly out of breath.
"May, May!" May jumped out of bed, high alert and ready to fight, but relaxed her stance when her eyes landed on Daisy.
"You have something." It wasn't a question and May looked genuinely relieved. "Now we just have to get him to take the damn thing."
Fortunately, after much persuasion from May, Coulson took the drug and was able to rejoin the fight. After the fight with Talbot, Coulson, May, and Daisy sat in the kitchen area of the Lighthouse.
"Not that I'm not grateful, but what you did was reckless. You could have jeopardized this whole mission just to save me."
"We needed you." Daisy countered.
"Daisy, it was risky and-"
"Phil, stop." May rolled her eyes.
"Coulson!" Daisy shouted, surprising May and Coulson. "I couldn't watch you die. I couldn't lose someone again! I-I couldn't lose you!"
May nodded and gave Daisy's shoulder a comforting squeeze. The idea of losing Coulson (a second time for May) had been devastating for both women. Coulson completed their family and they couldn't picture a life without him.
"Why can't you understand that it wouldn't matter if we won the battle. It wouldn't matter because you'd be gone! And…" Daisy took a deep breath and blinked back tears.
"Phil, we weren't going to just give up on you. We're a family, you know that." May added.
"Of course I know that."
"Then why do you keep acting as if saving you was the worst thing we could do?" Daisy exclaimed and turned sharply to look at him. Coulson could tell she was about to break down at any moment and shivered at her glare.
"Do we matter that little to you? Coulson what the hell?" Sure enough, the tears started streaking down Daisy's face. To her, Coulson didn't care if he stayed or died, and if she was being honest that killed her. It terrified her to think that the person she had looked up to for so long and saw as a father-figure could be just like the foster homes she knew as a kid. Daisy wanted to believe in him, but right now she couldn't. She choked back a sob and glared at the floor. She heard movement and heard Coulson's footsteps coming towards her. He stopped in front of her and gently tilted her chin upwards to look at him.
"I'm sorry." He began, "Don't you ever think that you don't matter to me, because that is not true. Daisy, you and Melinda, and this team mean the world to me. I didn't want to leave you, but I also didn't want you to risk everything for me. Was I more accepting of death this time around? Yes, but not because I wanted to leave you. I know I went about things all wrong, I just didn't want to be selfish."
"Well it was selfish." May growled, causing Daisy to let out a small chuckle.
"And I see that now." Phil acknowledged. "Look, I'm sorry for how I handled things. I need you both to know that I… I love you both so much and I am thankful, so thankful, that you saved me."
At his words Daisy couldn't help but launch herself into the man's arms. She buried her face into his shoulder and cried while he cradled her head. He and May shared a smile over Daisy's shoulder.
"I'm proud of you, kiddo. I am so proud." He whispered.
"I love you." Daisy pulled away and reached for May to join the hug as well. "I love both of you, so much."
"We love you too."
May walked over and allowed her two favorite people to engulf her in a hug. She would never admit it out loud, but it was the best feeling in the world.
