Paul POV-
FUCK! Double Fuck! Seth just imprinted on Bella and Embry's daughter, and Bella passed out. I could smell the blood, and I knew she needed to get to the hospital ASAP.
"SAM!" I yelled, the urgency in my voice as I lifted Bella into my arms. She was freezing cold and had a cold sweat too. I knew the baby would be safe with Seth, especially now, so I motioned for him to follow me outside to the others.
Sam was at my side immediately as soon as we were out the door. "She needs a hospital. NOW." I said, terrified that something would happen to her. I looked over to the ground where Embry was unconscious, too.
"I'll take her." I heard another voice say and I growled, holding Bella protectively. It was the oldest vampire, the doctor. "I'm a doctor. I wish no harm on Bella, but if I don't run her to the hospital quickly, she will be in a lot of danger, she's lost a lot of blood and she might need a transfusion."
I looked to Sam for his instruction. "Let him take her, but run with them. Don't leave her side." I growled low at the vampire, but did as my alpha instructed, handing her over to the undead creature. I took off the shorts and phased quickly, running alongside them as fast as I could.
On the run, I let myself think back on Embry. He'd been bitten by the leech, and also had several broken bones. Luckily the doctor had shown up just as we were burning the leech's body parts. Even though he'd clearly been upset over the loss of his so-called 'son', he'd told us he could not blame us for our actions and that he still had a duty as a doctor. Apparently the one who'd kidnapped Bella at her graduation had sent him when she'd had a vision.
He had realigned Embry's bones so that they could heal and had declared that while not fatal, the venom would have to work itself out of Embry's system, which was why he was unconscious, and likely in a great amount of pain. He'd mentioned that if we hadn't pulled the leech off him when we had, Embry would be dead. A single drop more of venom in his veins would've killed our brother.
Within fifteen minutes, we were back at the hospital, the doc vamp carrying her directly into the ER as I phased back human and pulled on the borrowed shorts.
I knew that Sam was on his way, having felt him phase in my head as I ran. Somehow, he was managing carrying Seth, who was still holding the baby, on his back, and would be here within a few minutes. Jared was carrying Embry back as a human, which would take much longer, but there was no way he'd be able to stay on one of our backs being unconscious, just like Bella.
I realized, as the doctors began to work on Bella, that Charlie had no idea what had happened. I rushed over to the nurse's station and asked if I could use the phone. I dialed Charlie's work number, having had it memorized, and waited anxiously for him to answer.
"Chief Swan," He answered as he usually would.
"Chief, Bella's at the hospital. You need to come now." I told him, feeling the worry about her immediately.
"What happened? The baby?" He asked with urgency, sounding like he'd stood up from his desk quickly, causing his chair to fall over.
"Long story, I'll fill you in when you get here. You have a granddaughter, chief, but Bella's lost a lot of blood." I explained to him.
"Be there in five." He said, immediately hanging up the phone.
Just as I hung up, Seth walked in, still clutching the baby tightly to his chest, wrapped in my shorts. Seth was covered in Bella's blood and very reluctant to let the nurses touch the baby as they rushed over to help. I walked over to him and put my hand on his shoulder. "It's okay, Seth, they are going to help her. You need to let them." I told him. He looked up at me with worry before nodding. He carefully handed the baby to the nurse, who began to ask several questions. We answered them all the best we could without explaining what had actually happened. They began to clean her up and check her over.
The vamp doctor came out of Bella's room and walked directly over to us to look at the baby. "Bella's condition is improving. She did require a transfusion, having lost too much blood, but she got it just in time. She should wake in a little while and be just fine. May I check on the baby now?" The vampire asked Seth directly, causing the nurses to look up in confusion. I bet they thought the poor kid was the baby's dad, especially with how protective he was of her, causing me to laugh internally.
Seth growled inhumanly, much too low for the humans to hear, but a clear warning to the doctor. Once the message was clear, Seth nodded, allowing the doctor access to his tiny imprint. He did several things very quickly, but seemed to be pleased with them all.
"For being 36 weeks gestation, she is doing very well. Her breathing is perfect, which means her lungs are well developed. Her body temperature is even within a healthy range, which is a miracle considering the conditions in which she was born. I believe you helped contribute body heat?" The doctor asked, seeing the nurses retreat to their desk, and Seth nodded before explaining the birth to him, leaving nothing out. "You likely saved both of their lives."
Just as soon as soon as he finished speaking, Charlie burst through the ER doors. I motioned him over to us and he clearly looked frantic.
"Where is she? Is Bella okay? The baby?" Charlie asked quickly, not even sparing a breath. Seth had picked the baby back up, now cleaned and wrapped in an actual blanket, and turned around to show Charlie. "Is that- Is she my granddaughter?" He asked.
"She doesn't have a name yet, but this is her," Seth said, proudly. Charlie noticed the blood covering Seth nearly from head to toe. "She's perfect. 10 fingers, 10 toes, and perfectly healthy."
"And Bella?" He asked, gulping. I pointed to a room to our right, where nurses were walking in and out.
"She'll be okay, Charlie..." I said, putting my hand on his shoulder. "Why don't we get in there with her? Doc can Seth bring the baby in there?" I asked, cringing at having to ask a vampire's permission for something.
"Yes, that's fine." Charlie looked over at Carlisle in confusion for a moment, but turned to walk to Bella's room without a word.
I nodded and the three of us made our way into the room. Bella looked rough, hooked up to several machines and two IV's, but I heard the steady rhythm of her strong heartbeat and knew she would be okay. Charlie broke down at her side, begging her to be okay so that she could be back with her daughter, before turning to us.
"Where is Embry?" Charlie asked, finally noticing his son-in-law's absence.
"Currently indisposed." I told him carefully, insinuating that it was wolf-related. He knew I couldn't say anything with too many human nurses walking in and out.
"Seth, you keep an eye on my baby girl and my granddaughter. Paul, let's go chat outside." Charlie said, leaving a nodding Seth and following me out the doors of the ER. "Now tell me exactly what happened?"
"Bella started having contractions this morning, so we convinced her to come to the hospital. As soon as she was inside, that goddamn leech took her. There were too many people here, we couldn't phase to protect her. We tracked him to an abandoned warehouse, clear past Port A, but he had the place rigged with fucking supersonic dog whistles. They took us all out. They were on some sort of loop, though, so we managed to take them out one by one in between cycles. By the time we got inside to Bella, she was already having the baby. That fucker gave her drugs to speed up the labor. Seth stayed with her and actually delivered the baby while we took out Cullen. Em got bit though, and messed up pretty bad. He'll live but we don't know when he'll wake up." I explained the short version of what had happened.
"Seth delivered the baby?" He asked after taking it all in. I nodded.
"That's not even the craziest part though," I told him, causing his eyes to shoot up to mine, urging me to continue. "Seth imprinted on her."
"The baby?" He asked, eyes widening in shock.
"Yep, and he saved both of their lives, Charlie. Remember Quil and Claire? It's the same. He doesn't see her like that, I promise." I told him, seeing him get worried and angry over the imprint. Once he realized what I meant, he relaxed slightly. I could see Sam walking up to the hospital and he came over to us directly.
"Embry is stable but still unconscious. Jared took him back to my house. The others are looking after him, and wanted word on Bella and the baby." Sam told us.
"Bella is still unconscious, too. She had to get a blood transfusion, but the doc says she'll be okay. The baby is fine, perfectly healthy, she's with Seth." I explained. He nodded and took off towards the woods with the new information.
Charlie and I walked back into the hospital to Bella's room, watching as Seth carefully rocked the baby in the chair next to the bed. "I'm going to go call Sue." Charlie told me before excusing himself.
Seth looked up at me, and I could tell he had tears forming in his eyes. I kept forgetting that he was still just a kid. He must be traumatized by what he'd just gone through.
"I could've lost them, Paul, I could've lost them both, both of my imprints, if we didn't get there when we did." He said in a whisper, letting a tear drop onto the blanket as the newborn slept peacefully.
"You didn't, Seth. You saved them. Both of them are alive because of you. They will be okay. You did great, bro." I told him, putting my hand on his shoulder.
"I- I imprinted on her…" He muttered quietly.
"I know. We all know." I replied.
"She's going to hate me." He whispered again.
"Who?" I asked, unsure of who he was referring to.
"Bella. I imprinted on her daughter. She's going to hate me, I know it." He explained, seemingly resigned to that fact.
"Dude, she's not going to hate you. You know how many times she's told me that she loves you like her own son? She'll understand. I'd be more concerned about Embry if I were you. He doesn't know yet." Seth's eyes widened at that realization and looked at the sleeping baby in his arms.
"It's not like that, I promise. It's just like Quil's imprint, I swear." He told me pleadingly.
"It's okay, Seth." We both heard and turned our heads to see Bella opening her eyes.
