A/N: This is not The Tales of version of Percy Jackson and the Greek Gods or Percy Jackson and the Greek Heroes, but rather The Tales of version of a book I got of Greek and Roman Mythology I got in Rome Italy. The settings will be after 'The Tales of the Heroes of Olympus: The Blood of Olympus' so please read that before getting in this story. Think of this story as something to pass by until The Trials of Apollo books.

Agdistis

A hermaphrodite is someone born both male and female sex organs. And that's what Agdistis was unfortunately.

It was said he was born after Zeus split some semen on the earth, resulting in his creation. Other versions say Zeus have tried in vain to marry Cybele, let some of his semen fall on a nearby rock which also was how Agdistis came to be.

One thing was clear the gods had his castrated after he came to be. One story even say Dionysus made him/her drunk and castrated Agdistis. But when they did castrate Agdistis they ended up help creating his/her child Attis.

How Attis was born also varies. Some say when the gods castrated Agdistis, his/her penis sprang into an almond tree, or his/her blood grew a pomegranate tree. Then a daughter of Sangarius name Nana picked either an almond and placed it in her lap or a pomegranate to insert in her womb. In the end, the almond or pomegranate got her pregnant and she gave birth to Attis.

After Attis was born, she abandoned Attis, some say by Sangarius order, and he was either cared for by a goat, or taken in by some passerby and reared by honey and billy-goat's milk, and because he grew up very handsome he was named Attis, which means he goat or beautiful.

Stories also say Attis grew up Agdistis who was purely female by now, and Agdistis fell in love with him. But Attis was sent to Pessinus to marry King Midas' daughter. Some stories even say Midas was determined to have Attis marry his daughter. Agdistis appeared after the marriage hymn had been sung, whereupon Attis castrated himself and died.

Other stories say there was an argument between Agdistis and Cybele, causing Attis and his attendants to become frenzied. Attis castrated himself beneath a pine tree and died. Cybele buried him, but violets grew around the pine tree from the blood which had fallen from his wounds. Cybele also buried Midas daughter, who had killed herself in despair, and violets grew from her blood and also an almond tree over her tomb.

Agdistis was so upset that she granted that Attis body should not decay. Zeus granted Agdistis that Attis' body should not decay, his hair should continue to grow, and his little fingers should move.

Later Agdistis founded a community of priests and a festival in Attis' honor at Pessinus.

That's it from Agdistis, but I would remember Midas for later on, because unfortunately his story doesn't start or end with Attis.

Until then, next I talk about another half-brother of mine and thesearch party he send to find one of his daughters when, surprise-surprise, Zeus kidnapped her.
