Hey, guys, it's Hazel here again. It's day 3 here in Paris. Right now, it's 8 am Paris time, and Augustus is still sleeping. I'm the early riser of the two of us, and sometimes walking a lot is kind of hard for him even with Old Prosty along for the ride, so it doesn't surprise me since we walked a lot yesterday. I call the girls to say good morning, and after they go off to play, Isaac asks, "Hazel, can we talk?"

"Sure. What's up? Everything okay?" I question, "Is it the girls?"

"No, they're fine. It's me."

"Yeah? What's wrong?"

"The doctors say I'll have to have my other eye out soon, and I don't know how to tell Kaitlyn."

"Oh, no. Isaac, I'm sorry."

"How do I tell her? I don't wanna freak her out or scare her off."

"Just be honest with her. I think it would be worse if she found out another way."

"But you don't think she'll leave?"

"No. You've already been through so much. Just tell her. I think she'll help you through it way better than Monica would've/"

"Ugh, don't remind me."

"Sorry. Anyway, just be real with her. Partners appreciate honesty above anything else."

"After the surgery, I'm gonna be blind, which is a lot to ask Kaitlyn to take on."

"I was a lot to ask of Gus at first, but look at how happy we are now."

He nods, laughs a little, and says, "True."

"Good luck." I hold my arms out as if I'm giving him a hug, and he does the same before we end the call.

Now it's a little past 9 and I've just finished making breakfast. I'm lost in thoughts of how to tell Augustus that Isaac's had a recurrence when he kisses my neck and says, "Morning, Hazel Grace."

I turn and smile at him, hoping he can't see my sadness underneath.

My hopes are dashed when he asks, "What's wrong?"

I sigh. "I had a video call with Isaac earlier. He...had a recurrence. He says he'll have to have the other one out soon. He asked me how he should tell Kaitlyn. He's scared she'd freak out and leave.

"What did you tell him?" Augustus asks, looking as though he's processing the news.

"Just to be honest. I told him I thought she'd like to find out from him as opposed to any other way. I think their bond is strong enough she won't feel freaked out or pressured. He said it was a lot to ask her to take on. I reminded him to see us as an example of what could be."

"You're very wise, Hazel Grace," he says, grinning,

I giggle and answer, "I try."

After breakfast, we go to the Eiffel Tower again. We spend a few hours there and then head to the Arc de Triumph. After that, we walk along the river, get dinner, and arrive back in time to read the girls their stories. We then take a warm bath together in the big garden tub and snuggle up in bed.

Hey, peeps. It's Isaac here. The girls are in bed, and Kait is in the shower. I'm psyching myself up to tell her the bad news. I hope she doesn't freak out hardcore and run screaming in the other direction.

She comes down and says, "Whoa. Looking a little grim, aren't we?"

"Kait... I..."

"What's wrong? You can tell me."

"The doctor called and told me I'm going to have to have my other eye removed soon," I whisper.

"Oh, what rotten luck. Not to worry, though. I'll be here with you."

"You...will?" I say, a little surprised.

"Absolutely, Where else would I be?"

I give her a hug and kiss and say, "Thank you."

"Of course, Darling."

I look over and find Abby is watching us with tears in her eyes. "What's wrong, Abbs?" I ask, scooping her up.

"Too dawk, Unc," she says, snuggling into my chest. She's always been the only one of the three girls who hates the dark.

"Aww. Do you wanna stay here with us?"

She nods "Uh huh."

"Maybe we can bring her into our bed?" Kaitlyn suggests/

"Don't you mean Hazel and Gus's?"I ask, laughing.

"Oh, yes, of course."

We bring her into bed, and as we're snuggling in, Kaitlyn says, "You'll make a great dad one day."

"You think?"

"Definitely."

I smile and give her a kiss. "I love you."

"To the moon and back," she answers as she settles into sleep.
