Blinded in Chains
Luke had decided to do what he though best and speak to Mon Mothma about moving Ezra's trial to Lothal. He was nervous as he entered the office and heard her speaking to a senator very sternly.
"I have told you countless times, Senator Wiess. I will not lower the tax on trade in your system. All systems that are a part of the New Republic are taxed on trade. You are no different." Mothma said to a female human. A friend of Leia's, if Luke's memory served him right. She was a short blonde woman with gray eyes. She was on older than 35.
"Please Madam Chancellor. My people are starving, we can't afford to pay the taxes when we have to import most of our food." The senator replied, very desperate. A thick accent made a few words lost in translation. (German accent)
"You will have to find a way." Mothma stood and walked to the door. She was surprised to see Luke standing there. "Ah, Master Skywalker. Have you apprehended Bridger?"
"No ma'am. I know he won't come easily. I once again ask that his trial be moved to Lothal. It will be our judges and none of his companions on the jury." Luke tried to reason.
"I'm sorry Luke, but that is not possible. As you no doubt know, Bridger was on Yavin-4 not long before the liberation of Lothal. I met him a few times. He was strong willed, hot tempered, and impulsive to help others. However, all of that has seemed to change. He chose to turn against the New Republic, and he must be held accountable."
"But Chancellor."
"No 'buts' Luke. If you are incapable of doing as the Jedi of the past have and serve the Republic, then I will have your temple removed from the capital. Do I make myself clear?"
"Yes, ma'am." Luke bowed and left to assemble a team to go to Krownest.
Krownest
Ezra felt a small disturbance in the force. He had a good inclination to what this would mean, Luke was coming for him. He held nothing against the young man, just thought he was misguided was all. The past few days on Knrownest were nice. Getting to see old friends, taking evening walks around the lake with Sabine, playing with the children. Ezra was happy, but he knew trouble was coming. Instead of telling Sabine, he went and informed Ursa about the unexpected arrival.
"Countess, may I have a word?" Ezra spoke as he entered the room.
"Please Ezra. You can call me Ursa. You've known me for the better part of 10 years." She laughed as they walked to the private wings.
"I sensed a tremor in the force. Nothing major, but enough to let me know he is coming."
"Who is coming?"
"Skywalker. He is coming to take me back to the New Republic for trial. I wish for there to be no confrontation between your warriors and their soldiers. I will go with them. I ask that when they do come, you let them land in peace."
"You have really thought this through, haven't you?"
"Yes ma'am. One more thing. Please don't tell Sabine, or better yet have her go off world. It will hurt her now, but in the end she will understand."
"Ok, I will have Bo Katan contact her for defense preparations."
"Thank you."
Ezra walked back to his room and found Sabine holding Celeste in her chair, both were sound asleep. He silently moved over to the two and kissed both Celeste's head and Sabine's cheek. "Sleep well my loves." He then went off to find the twins, he needed to speak with them. He found the two pushing a ball back and forth with the force. "It seems you two are finding new tricks."
"Yes Daddy. I found I could push it around and Mira can do the same. Is this what you meant when you said we could be like you?" Anna asked innocently.
"Yes, sweetie. You have discovered your power and in time, you can gain more control and even do more things." Ezra chuckled.
"So, we can have one of those?" Mira asked pointing to the lightsaber hilt on Ezra's belt.
"No, that one won't be for a while. Probably 10 is good enough for you to get one."
"Okay Daddy." And the two went back to pushing the ball. Ezra grinned, he was a lucky man.
The next day, Ursa informed her daughter that she was needed on Mandalor to meet with Bo Katan about weapon designs. Sabine was hesitant to leave her husband behind, but Ezra assured her he'd be fine. That wasn't truly a lie, he would remain unharmed. She took off in the family transport and Ezra sat back and waited for Luke to come. He didn't have to wait long as a guard came to inform him that Skywalker had arrived. Ezra stood and walked out the room, not before sending his daughters comforting thoughts as they napped.
Luke waited on the pad for Ezra to show. Of course, all the Wren warriors had their blasters pulled and aimed at him. Ezra walked out of the building and saw the scene in front of him.
"Motir daab ner burc'ya." Ezra said aloud. The warriors holstered their weapons and stood back. "Hello Luke, I was beginning to think you weren't coming."
"Hi Ezra. I wish I was here under better circumstances, but I have orders to take you and your children to Chandrila." Luke frowned, not wanting to do this.
"You can have me, that I don't mind. My children will remain here. If not, these nice men and women will destroy you and your men." Ezra gestured to the groups of warriors.
"I think that will not be necessary."
"Well then, let us be on our way my friend."
"First you must be blinded and chained."
"Any reason why?"
"Precaution, even though I know it does nothing to you."
"Reasonable, shall we go then?"
"Yes, my friend."
Luke placed the binders and blindfold on Ezra and walked him to the ship. The two took seats opposite each other in the cargo hold. As the large transport took off, Ezra felt a pang through the force. It was from Sabine, Ursa must have told her what happened. He sent and apologetic feeling to her, hoping she could hear him.
' I'm sorry, my love. It was easier for us all if you were not here. I see this as the only option. Ni kart'ayl gar darasuum ti an ner kart'a Sabine Wren-Bridger."
"Ezra Bridger I'm gonna.." was all he heard in response before he shut down his mental connection with her.
"Luke, I must ask. What do you think of all of this?" Ezra asked his friend.
"I think that it is all wrong. I mean, if someone as evil as Darth Vader could come back, why can't you?"
"That's just it, I am back. My mind has never been clearer. I know what I have done is wrong and that I broke my own code. But even you know all of this is not justified. Would you have sat by as your father was tried like this?" Ezra was trying to use Anakin's advice.
"Perhaps if I knew all of the details." Luke leaned forward.
"I was plagued by nightmares since before the twins were born. All telling me I was not good enough. I was not strong enough. Before I left, I had a vision of Ori'dush killing my family, one by one. I witnessed the death of Mira, then Anna as they tried to fight back. Then Celeste was choked and left lifeless on the floor. Last Sabine was murdered in front of me." Ezra winced at how recent that memory was.
"I'm sorry, but I don't think that a dream can make one turn." Luke wanted to believe Ezra, but it was hard. It all seemed a little too much.
"I spoke to your father the other night." Ezra tilted his head up.
"Yes, I see him often. Especially when I need advice."
"He told me of why he fell to the dark side. That he saw a vision of your mother dying and vowed to never let it come true. In his search for the power to save her, he found the dark side to be too tempting and gave in." Ezra could 'see' Luke's emotion's through the force.
"I know, he also told me the same story." Luke sighed. He knew that this was wrong. "Look I can't help you here, but once we get to Chandrilla, I will do what I can to keep you alive."
"Thank you, Luke. But I must warn you, Sabine can be a one-woman wrecking force."
Okay so Ezra went with Luke. Next few chapters will be alternating view points of Sabine and Ezra. Lmk what you think I'm going to bed. Imma be real with you guys real quick.
