Correct me if I'm wrong lol but I think I never said the gender of Tess' baby right? I've looked back and I cant find anywhere where it was said.
It was getting close to dusk so I followed our scents instead of depending on my vision. I was not seeing the best with that blood loss even with the enhanced werewolf vision. As I walked in the direction of the field, the anger started dominating over my other emotions. That idiot thought that Emma was supposed to be with him?! That i was the second choice?!
I got to the field and they were gone, I continued following their scents through the trees until I caught up with them.
"Hey, I said angrily.
Emma looked relieved to see me as she threw her good arm around me. I moved out of her grasp and kept walking towards the road.
"What's that?" Chloe asked, looking at the wooden bowl i had in my hands. I'd been gripping it harder than I realized, there was a slightly crack down the side.
"Herbs and crap to make a tea to help heal," I said then looked at Emma angrily. "Courtesy of your boyfriend Billy."
Emma, looking confused and shocked, didn't get a chance to respond. Derek responded first.
"Later," he growled. "We don't need any fighting right now. We're all tired and hurting."
"No," I snapped raising. "I want to know now why she settled for me. Why her real mate still waits for her to come home after twenty years. I want to know why she put me through an illusion of love and caring when she doesn't really care."
"Jeremy-" Emma started.
"I said enough fighting," Derek interrupted again.
Chloe's POV
"I said enough fighting," Derek sounded angrier.
Jeremy wasn't backing down from his werewolf anger. He shouted at Emma then shouted at Derek when he tried to stop him. Derek was losing his cool and shouting back now. I wanted to step in but I was distracted by my phone buzzing in my pocket. Tess was returning my call.
"Hey," I said as I answered it. Stepping a few feet away to be able to hear her over the yelling.
"Do I hear arguing?" Tess responded. I must've been imagining it but something sounded off.
"It's nothing, look, I don't know if you heard my voicemail yet but we left Emma's pack's territory. It didn't go smoothly, they got hurt."
"They? What about you sweetie? Are you ok?"
"I'm fine," my signature lie. "Can you help us? We can't sit here on the edge of their territory for long. They figured out the hybrid stuff and want nothing to do with us."
There was talking in the background, probably Elijah. But I couldn't hear it over the yelling.
"We're three hours away at my pack Chloe. Can you hold out that long?" Elijah had taken the phone and was talking now. "Follow the road as long as you can. There's not many intersections, just keep heading straight. The closer you can get, the faster we can get to you."
"I don't know how far we can go," I admitted. "Derek's got a concussion, Emma broke her arm and might change, and Jeremy won't acknowledge how badly his back is cut up."
Elijah sighed. "Stay put and stay safe then. I have to stay here with Tess, there's been some... complications. There are werewolves on their way to get you. The girls name is Ashe, you can trust her."
"Complications?" I asked.
"Not now Chloe. Focus on gettin them to shut up. They're going to draw attention to you guys if they don't stop screaming at each other."
There was talking in the background again and the phone beeped. Elijah had hung up before I could ask more questions.
I took a deep breath and turned back to the others. Emma was in tears trembling.
"Hey," I shouted.
Derek and Jeremy paused and looked at me.
"Elijah said to shut your traps before you get us into more trouble. He sent werewolves to come get us but it'll be about three hours. We need to move or hide."
The boys nodded but the terrified look in Emma's eyes told me she wasn't in control for long.
"You two find somewhere we can bunker down," I growled. "Now."
The boys looked confused for a moment but didn't openly question me. They instead went back to arguing in hushed voices as they walked away. I came up to Emma and gently pulled her to the ground.
"He hates me," she sobbed, leaning against me.
"No Emma no," I said softly. "He's still learning to be a werewolf. He doesn't know how to control anger."
She sobbed and hiccuped as her shoulder jerked back.
"I don't wanna. I don't wanna." She kept saying.
"It's going to suck but you know Matt knew how to fix your leg. I bet Elijah does and if he doesn't, we can get Matt's help again. You'll be alright."
She was breathing so erratically, I worried she might pass out. I tilted her head up so her gaze was on me and breathed in and out slowly. Emma followed my lead, breathing slower.
"I do love him, you know," she said.
"We're not going to worry about any of that right now," I said softly. "We're going to worry about calming you down and staying human."
Her injured shoulder jerked again and Emma bit her tongue trying not to cry out. We weren't going to have the choice to keep her human.
"I"m so sorry," I said.
The boys came walking back. Emma clung to me, trying to hide herself.
"There's a bunch of pine trees over there," Derek said gesturing off to the side. "We can set up camp in between them."
"Emma and I will stay there then. You two follow the road, try to get to the werewolves. Elijah said her names Ashe"
They both looked at me like I was insane.
"We're not splitting up," Derek said.
I glared as fiercely as I possibly could. "You two are leaving her alone. You've done enough damage. If you're not leaving then you're at least hiding somewhere else."
I stood Emma up to walk her in the direction Derek pointed to. Jeremy stepped after me and I wiped around.
"No," I snapped. "You will not make this harder You are leaving us alone."
I walked Emma away as quickly as she could move. The boys stood still, shocked.
I found the clump of pine trees Derek was talking about and maneuvered us in between them before lowering Emma back to the ground.
"See," I smiled. "He doesn't hate you, he just tried to come help you."
Emma shook her head, that wasn't enough evidence for her. There was a loud snap as she fell over on her side. We'd got here just in time. I held her hand and whispered words of encouragement. I hoped she heard me. Emma tried to muffle her cries of pain by burying her her face in the bed of pine needles. Her body cracked and moved and adjusted to a new form. I don't know if I'd ever seen it happen so violently.
