Jojolion Chapter 39: Lust of Sateriasis

Born in AD 993, Sateriasis had a unusual condition. He was born with facial scarring that looked to all the world like a second face. That was really his only flaw as he otherwise perfectly healthy, but the sight of such a deformity was enough for his mother to commit suicide in horror and his father to label him as a demon child. This much about the expanded story of Evillious was true, but that was extent of it. You see, while his father and those around him did ridicule the young child, the boy named Sateriasis was considered salvageable.

That's right, in this world's history there was only ever one Sateriasis, no other half-brother to speak of. Mothy simply created the half-brother to add conflict and a motive. Though Sateriasis had motive plenty. Growing up, the young boy soon met a beautiful young girl named Gumina Glassred and fell in love with her. But she was under pressure from her fiance to reject all other men, which was sad because she really did find the young Sateriasis charming. However, she was forced under duress to claim he was too ugly to ever be loved. This caused Sateriasis to snap, and he wound up killing his family in revenge for his deformed face.

He would have killed himself next if he hadn't chanced upon a middle-aged man who offered him the means to take what he wanted. The man played up a show of contracts with demons and such, but in reality the mysterious curved blade he showed Sateriasis was merely a sword forged from a special meteorite. When Sateriasis cut himself on it, a particular virus coursed through his blood. Most men would have died from this virus, but as it turned out Sateriasis was made from stronger stuff. Instead the virus began to work with his system, and brought forth an incredible power.

You see, the man in question was part of a occult sect that had existed since AD 894. They believed in the power promised by the Original Sin, and were looking for those who could be awoken by the seven other Vessels of Sin. This man, who went by the codename Luxuria, felt Sateriasis would be a perfect candidate. And he was right. Sateriasis gained a Stand he came to call Rebel Yell. It had the potential to grant him a strong following that would give him control over a vast territory. Unfortunately, he was blinded by lust, and wound up using the power for other purposes. As a result, the power never fully awoke.

Over the next year he wound up using his Stand to kidnap several young women. Those who caught him in the act immediately forgot about it since he could alter their memories. But rumors persisted with the number of girls going missing and the secluded life Sateriasis projected. He screwed up when one of the women he brainwashed, a young queen, caught the attention of her lover. He was called in to investigate the disappearances and when her name came up, he agreed without hesitation. This man was Karchess Crim, a young duke.

Though lacking a Stand of his own, he soon followed rumors of the mansion where a demon held several women, and with the blessing of the ones who hired him, made his plan. He was very fair of face, and with the right dress and wig he was able to infiltrate Sateriasis' mansion posing as a woman. The thing is, Rebel Yell is supposed to work on anyone who doesn't have a Stand, but Sateriasis' lust corrupted the power so it could only work on women. Sateriasis made his last mistake when he chose to embrace his new acquisition, only to feel piercing pain and cold steel enter his chest.

Karchess revealed himself and showed the dagger, laced with a fast-acting poison. It would be the first time in history a normal human had ever killed a Stand user. But this tale has a bittersweet ending. Unlike in the story, Sateriasis was able to tell Gumina of his love for her just before dying. His last image was of her cradling his head in her lap, begging his forgiveness for not revealing the truth. That was the last image Sateriasis had before suddenly being pulled hundreds of years into the future, resurrected by Honami Sato to do her bidding. It was an image that still stayed with him.

"Here we are," Sonosuke said. The group had entered the underground metro which was supposed to lead to where The Book of the Law was. "The city itself is untouched...," Sonosuke noted, "Well, sort of. The area above us has had several woman disappear, with no memory as to where they went." "Sounds like Sateriasis' work," Keebo noted, "In which case, we should only have to worry about his slaves. Apparently, Stand users, even female ones, are immune to his power." "Speaking of which," Hifumi chimed in, "I believe said slaves are attacking us right now!" Sure enough, an entire squad of women wielding makeshift weapons was walking through the tunnel.

"Rewrite!" Hifumi wrote in his notebook that a hole would appear in the nearby wall, which opened immediately and let the group through. "Caravan!," Miu said as she held up a ten-thousand yen note, "We need some smoke bombs!" "Smoke bombs coming up," Caravan said as he took the note and produced a few of the bombs. "Poker Face!," Celestia called out, pulling the Nine of Spades out of her deck, which created a smokescreen, enhanced by the smoke bombs. Keebo noticed some of the girls had infrared goggles for this situation. "Machinehead!" Keebo's body altered, and a electric spike emerged from his hand, launching an EMP. His own body was hardened against this type of power, but the infrared goggles didn't have that luxury.

"This is getting us no where," Celestia noted, "We need to find where Sateriasis is. Nothing we do can prevent Sato from gaining his power after he is dealt with. But he is only under her control to begin with because he doesn't have full control over his power, correct? If he could be made to control his power, then he could become an effective ally." "We'll need to get through his gaggle of groupies first," Ibuki noted, "I can hear them all throughout the A-Line. So how do we go about finding the book?" "There's a set of rules here," Nagito noted, pointing to a sign board.

The rules were that each participant had a card that started with one-thousand points. They had to spend points to enter each station's test, but not to get off at the station and leave the metro. Each test they passed would earn them more points to use on other tests, and points earned and spent would be saved between visits. Each test area was an obstacle course suspended over a large bounce pad. Falling off onto the bounce pad failed the test, among other factors. "Sounds like fun," Nagito said, "But it's clear this was already in place, with other prizes available whenever the book wasn't."

"So let's take the tests," Ruruka said, "Somewhere along the way, we're bound to run into Sateriasis." The first station held a simple urban environment, but there was a catch. A few of the women Sateriasis brainwashed were also taking the test, no doubt coerced into helping search for the book. One approached Nagito, who remained nonchalant. "Miracles!" The women shrieked in pain as Nagito's Stand manipulated her nervous system into overdrive, causing a sensation like being shocked by a taser. Ruruka found another group and smiled. "Candy Shop!" Her sugar cloud was mixed with almond powder, causing the girls to fall asleep quickly.

There were other enemies native to the test area, but Miu and Keebo were able to handle them with their respective Stands. "So more than one person can take the test," Keebo noted, "One of the rules was that if you fall below one-hundred points, you must start over. So far the tests don't seem very dangerous, but I was able to access the Towa Group mainframe via Wi-Fi. It turns out the system has a virtual imaging background that makes many of the testing areas look like bottomless pits, like you see in video games. It's likely they have also been set up so that only Stand users could ace them."

"That makes sense," Celestia noted, "The Book of the Law can only be properly read by a Stand user, so only a Stand user would have need to try and obtain it. Additionally, while we can access all stations for the purpose of travel around the city, we can only access testing areas adjacent to the one we most recently completed. This will include accessing additional lines. The ultimate goal is to find four keycards that can open a secret room in the Central Station, which will lead to a hidden route through Towa Tower, where the book is supposed to be." Several tests would have similar themes.

For example, one station had a hamster ball that the tester had to roll through an obstacle course, including up vertical walls. Another test had them guiding a giant 8-Ball to a goal. There was also an arena battle that involved taking an object to a predetermined point. Several different types of obstacles stood in the groups' way, and in most of them more of Sateriasis' captive girls hounded them. Finally, they encountered Sateriasis at the end of A-Line, surrounded by girls. He frowned when he saw the group. "I'm told my powers are useless against other Stand users. To be honest when I first obtained my power I thought it was part of a demonic contract. You can't imagine my relief when Honami explained that it was all coming from me."

He smiled. "Now I'm not the sort to force myself on a woman. That's why I use my powers to soften them up first. So I really have no reason to confront you. Besides, if I take too long Honami will most certainly remind me of my purpose here." Keebo's electronic eyes were able to pinpoint the shackle attached to Sateriasis' neck. "We need to find a way to convince him to break his own shackle," he noted. "As the saying goes," Ruruka said, "The quickest way to a man's heart is through his stomach. And I have a special candy for just the occasion, enhanced with a little chemical from Seiko designed to improve memory. I just need to get in close."

"Easy enough," Miu said with a grin, "We just need to clear a path. Caravan! Some flashbangs!" She tossed a yen note up to Caravan. "Coming right up!" "Machinehead!," Keebo called out, reconfiguring his body to fire his own explosives. "Poker Face!," Celestia called out, pulling out the Ace, Two, Four, Six, and Eight of Diamonds. This conjured a sci-fi gun with increased caliber, improved rate of fire, and a fire attribute, as well as improving her senses. She started firing while Miu and Keebo tossed their explosives, forcing the group to start splitting.

"We need to move before they regroup!," Hifumi called out, "Rewrite!" He wrote down that Ruruka and Sonosuke would have increased speed, letting them dash forward. Ibuki and Nagito were right behind them, noting when the crowd started to converge again. "Sonic Youth!" "Miracles!" Ibuki was able to deafen several girls who came close, while Nagito caused a few more to experience extreme cold via forcing their skin to start shivering without any real cold in the area. Sateriasis went for his sword, but Sonosuke was ready. "Iron Head!" He pulled out a steel sword that blocked the strike, letting Ruruka get in close.

"Candy Shop!" Sateriasis found himself blinded by a mix of sugar and flour, causing him to gasp. That was opening Ruruka needed, and she stuffed her special memory candy right into the Lust Sin's mouth. Reflexively he started chewing, the chemical already working. His eyes began to tear up as he started remembering all the good times he had with Gumina, and the love they shared in spite of her marriage assignment. However, he also remember something important. He remembered the full power of his Stand. Having focused on the one woman he truly loved, he discovered a balance between his lust and the opposite virtue of chastity.

A blinding aura emerged from him. When it faded, the shackle around his neck became released, dropping to the ground before being dragged off. The girls around them started coming to their senses, looking around in confusion. Sateriasis had been rendered unconscious due to the stress of his full awakening, and woke up to Keebo scanning him. "Interesting. It appears the deformity was caused by complications while in the womb. Tell me, was there anything unusual to note about your birth?" Sateriasis thought for a moment, then hit on an idea.

"Come to think of it," he said, "I did overhear my father talking to his guests that it took longer than it should have for me to emerge from my mother's womb. The midwife had stated that my head was too large to emerge normally and had suggested a cesarean section since Mother was in such pain, but Father would hear none of it since she was otherwise perfectly healthy." "It's possible your skin scraped against the bone of your mother's pelvis during the birthing process," Keebo noted, "Causing permanent scarring. Had you lived in the modern age, a C-section would have been a very viable option, since there exists equipment to keep the mother alive while the baby is cut from her womb."

"What ifs will do me no good now," Sateriasis said, "I have been flung almost a thousand years from my own time. And grateful as I am to be alive, my beloved Gumina is so far away." "Maybe not as much as you think," Miu said, "Our friend Kirumi has a Stand able to grant wishes. Maybe she could somehow bring your girlfriend to you." "And come to think of it," Ruruka chimed in, "There's a town called Morioh with two people that could help with your scarring. Josuke can repair objects, and Tonio's cook can heal maladies."

Sateriasis smiled gently. "Vanity has only brought me suffering, and Gumina never truly cared about my appearance. It strikes me that this modern age is more open-minded than my own time, so there is no longer any need to be ashamed of my appearance. As for Gumina, I'd like to take you up on that offer, but it will have to wait. Until Honami can be stopped, I cannot risk bringing her here. I will, however, use the power I have just discovered to try and find the others. Now that I truly understand Rebel Yell, it would be a shame not to use it to its full potential."

The idea behind the tests in the Metro is based on Splatoon 2's Octo Expansion, but I won't be getting into detail since there are too many similar stages. Instead I'll be focusing on the battles with Honami's slaves. Now for information on Sateriasis' Stand.

Rebel Yell (Song by Billy Idol)
User: Sateriasis Venomania
Ability: The way Rebel Yell is supposed to work is that it can compel anyone the user wants to aid them, unless they happen to have a Stand, forming a group community that can share memories in a sort of pseudo-hive mind. In addition, the user is supposed to be able to change their form at will into whatever they desire. However, blinded by his lust, Sateriasis can only compel women via brainwashing rather than suggestion, and men are not affected even if they don't have a Stand. He does have some shapeshifting powers, but only enough to fix his deformities. And while he can affect memory, the power is corrupted and can only erase memories. If Sateriasis were ever to balance his lust with chastity, he could awaken Rebel Yell's true power and be free. The stats below are for the Stand's true power.
Power: E
Speed: E
Range: A
Durability: A
Precision: B
Potential: E

I chose this song reference because if you listen to the lyrics, it's clear the song is about the singer getting lucky with a beautiful dancer. It perfectly describes what Sateriasis could have had if he hadn't focused purely on lust. Read and review.
