Chapter 57

.

Note: Agent Coulson and Daisy are from the television series "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." As to whether this is the same Grant Ward, keep reading.

.

Phil Coulson was happy to be back with his old team. Mack had done a good job leading after Coulson's most recent death, but he was okay with giving the reign of command back to him. Coulson couldn't remember much of his afterlife, and that was irrelevant now. He had a job to do, and some good soldiers following his lead. One was Daisy, she was a fighter, who usually tried to do the right thing. Despite a few mistakes, she had a good heart, and they needed that right now. Coulson was discussing certain aspects of their current mission, what was needed.

.

Coulson: Assuming that a dictator who proudly claimed to be the antichrist keeps his word, we should be able to enter his world.

Daisy; And bring as many refugees here to Antarctica as possible.

Coulson: Essentially. If this is truley shaping up to be the final battle between good and evil, we need to give them a chance to make up for whatever they did. And we need all hands on deck.

Daisy: We've got some good people ready for these rescue missions.

Coulson: I don't doubt it, even a cyborg version of me. You've heard there are doubles of most of us.

Daisy: A nazi version of Supergirl, a communist version of Superman. Different versions of Loki, and whether those ones are good or evil seems to depend on your point of view.

Coulson: True, Loki killed me, but even I have to admit that he wasn't all bad as a king. Odin forced those realms to be part of Askard through bloodshed and terror. Loki was willing to give them their independance, even let them make their own mistakes, to avoid further bloodshed. I will not however excuse the fact that Loki imprisoned and exiled political dissenters.

Daisy: What about the fact that Loki had giant statues of himself built?

Coulson: It's a bit of a stretch, but you could call that a jobs creation program. Anyway, getting back to what I said earlier, we have someone who can help with rescue missions, but you might not like his physical appearence.

Daisy: Since when do I judge people based on that? I don't mind if he's an alien, so am I in this world.

Coulson: No he looks human.

.

Coulson decided it would be easier to show Daisy. Their current ally was Grant Ward. Ward had been a part of Coulson's team, but he was secretly a mole working for HYDRA. HYDRA had been a part of the third reich, after they lost the war they went underground, rebuilt in secret, recruited agents within S.H.I.E.L.D. like Ward. Whether or not this was the same Grant Ward was anyone's guess.

.

Daisy: He the same one who betrayed us?

Ward: No.

Coulson: He says no.

Ward: I just said that.

Daisy: What is your story?

Ward: Abusive childhood, ended up in juvenile hall. I was sprung by Victoria Hand, offered a job within S.H.I.E.L.D. Despite everything they thought I could be useful. I'm not saying I was perfect, I took revenge against my older brother for how he tortured me.

Daisy: What kind of revenge?

Ward: I held him over a well, the same well he held our younger brother over. A part of me wanted to drop him in there, but I resisted, and eventually we forgave each other.

Daisy; What about the other versions of me and Coulson?

Ward: I never knew you in my world, Coulson was my main mentor. We made a mistake.

Daisy: What exactly?

Ward: We were trying to disarm a bomb, the rest of our team was held back, we didn't want to endanger their lives unneccessarily. Coulson and I succeeded, we thought that was the only bomb. The other one went off, our entire team was killed. Fitz, Simmons, that's actually two different people.

Daisy: I know. They're my best friends, I'm godmother to their daughter.

Ward: I always suspected they had a thing, but they died before anything happenned. Anyway, he and I have had to live with our actions, we obviously didn't mean to kill our friends, but we were still plagued by nightmares for what we did. I haven't seen Coulson since, maybe he was raptured. Hopefully he's in a better place, but if there's any chance he's suffering in Hell, I'll do whatever I have to do to save him.

Daisy: Who's John Garrett?

Ward: He was before my time. He was a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, but he betrayed us to Malick.

Daisy: Malick?

Ward: Yes.

Daisy: What's your favorite band?

Ward: Zeke Attack. I know, I sound old when I say that, but they were my favorite band growing up. Besides, "Fix You" "Stand by you" "Night Changes" How can you not like those songs.

Daisy: Sir, have you heard about our little time travel adventure?

Coulson: Yes, my cyborg counterpart filled me in. He said it created a new timeline, and yet the old timeline remained. Personally I think you all just went to a parrallel universe.

Ward: Yeah, that's much less confusing.

Daisy: I think this might be that world's Grant Ward.

Coulson: It would fit, a world where your mother died before giving birth to you, where Deke used his knowledge of future music to become a star.

Daisy: And a world where Grant Ward had the right influences, made better choices. I supposse we should give him a chance.

Ward: Happy to be on the team.
