My dumbass really started a Netflix series after I just finished a 10-season one haha. That's the real problem coming between me and my stories. Anyway, I'm watching Sweet Home. The Webtoon version is wayyyy better. But the Netflix adaptation isn't too bad either. The author's best work is Bastard. Bastard is half as long, but REALLY good. I highly recommend. These are webtoons I'm talking about by the way.

Well, Pokemaster06 has been a loyal reviewer, so I guess I owe y'all another chapter before the new year haha. See ya in 2021.

Chapter 46

"Just because we're working together, it doesn't mean I forgive you." mutters the brunette.

Sighing, the raven haired man nods. "I know." He doesn't expect to ever get forgiven. Not for how he's treated her. Brendan is ashamed of himself, which is why he hasn't reached out to May all this time. It took Drew convincing Brendan to help the orphanage again for Brendan to even see May. Part of Brendan hoped he wouldn't have to run into her, though that obviously didn't happen.

The two are currently working with Betty and Tyler by going through all of the orphanage's assets. Per Solidad's recommendation, May has been helping Betty, Tyler, and Brendan with the legal aspect of the orphanage. Just in case Hayden Corporation pulls the funding, which everyone assumes can happen any day now, Solidad wants the orphanage to be prepared to know what they are entitled to keep.

"Yet." May mutters, causing Brendan to look at her with surprise.

Tyler, though, coughs to interrupt their little moment. "Our main problem would be Hayden Corporation claiming they own the building." The young man changes the topic. Brendan and May can reconcile on their own time alone. Not while Tyler and Betty are here trying to save the orphanage.

Brendan blushes shyly and nods. "Uh. Yeah. But the orphanage is city property."

"Hayden Corporation basically owns the city." May reminds her ex.

"But they don't actually own it. Hayden Corporation is a large business. All large businesses hate bad publicity." Brendan gazes around the room. "And shutting down an orphanage for selfish reasons is definitely going to bring bad publicity."

"It'll be temporary. Hayden Corporation can bounce back." Betty sighs because she already knows so much about the different worlds through second hand experience. May nods in defeat, but this is all they have going for them right now.

Tyler quickly clicks away on his computer. "Something has been bothering me for a while."

"What is it?" May asks. How come Tyler is saying this now? While Tyler is the main caretaker right now, May thought they had a partnership. She's supposed to know what he knows. Nevertheless, May does understand that Tyler is the liaison between Hayden Corporation and the orphanage since May's previous relationships deem her unfit for that role.

The young man turns his screen around to show them. "Ever since Drew first came by, the funding has been cut drastically each month. At first, I thought he was weeding us out because he kept claiming he was going to shut us down. Something about how we cost too much money." Tyler then clicks to show the recent month's funding compared to the months before Drew came around. "But nothing has changed. If anything, we're performing slightly better with the tutors and services being provided. I don't really know what Drew did, but he's cut our funding without hurting us. We could use this in court, right? Like we don't cost too much to run, so Hayden Corporation can't use that excuse against us."

The girls blink at the screen trying to understand what all the numbers mean. Brendan, having seen finances before, gets it. He chuckles in amusement. Of course Drew would come to the rescue without even being here to claim his heroism. Brendan is never the hero for May or the orphanage. Despite that, he's already promised himself to see this fight through to the end.

"Yeah. It'll help. Hayden Corporation did a lot of renovations here, so we have to be careful that they don't take furniture back or try to charge us for things."

While the men talk, and Betty tries to catch up, May is still amazed. Drew really did all of this without telling anyone? She only knows Drew on a personal friendly level. Having never seen his business side, May doesn't know how smart he is. Just hearing how he's impacting the funding here reminds May of how far away they really are from each other. Maybe she should stop getting involved before she gets hurt again?

"May!" Everyone curiously turns to see a bluenette storm into the office.

"Dawn?" May is shocked. She hasn't seen Dawn in weeks, mainly because Dawn has been very busy with work.

"Have common sense and knock, troublesome." Walking in shortly behind Dawn is her purple haired bodyguard grumbling under his breath.

Ignoring Paul, Dawn grabs May's arm to pull her out of her chair. "I'm gonna need to borrow May for a few hours."

Brendan raises a confused eyebrow at them. "Um. We're kind of in the middle of something." He focuses on May. "Can you reschedule your girl time?" May should know better than to run off and have fun when they're in the middle of something important.

The brunette easily frees herself from Dawn. "I can't right now."

Dawn waves off the other three still seated. "Yeah yeah. Because you're fighting to keep the orphanage again. I know."

"He told you too?" May sighs. Paul gives an annoyed sigh, confirming May's suspicions.

"He did more than that. We're helping him again, but I need you right now." Dawn replies.

"Just go." Tyler is trying to focus, and he hates how they're losing time.

Betty gives May a reassuring smile while patting Tyler's back to calm him down. "Yeah. We'll be fine, May. Come back whenever."

Reluctantly facing Dawn again, May says, "Fine. Just a few hours. What are we doing?"

"Information. Every team has their own tasks. We'll talk as we go." Dawn drags May out of the office. Soon, they're in the car with Paul driving.

"Can you tell me now?" May hates being left in the dark.

"Solidad is coming to my house. We're gonna meet there, like old times sake."

"This isn't a movie." Paul reminds her, causing Dawn to stick her tongue out at him.

"It's not, but it's exciting. We've learned from our mistakes, Paul. We'll win this time."

Gathering the information, May brushes off Dawn's and Paul's argument. "Um. So why do you need me? Solidad told me to help with the orphanage's paperwork."

"Yeah, but it seems like you have enough people for that. We need more help." Dawn knowingly replies. "We need to plant a mole in the media." Dawn grins widely at May. "That's gonna be you."

"Um. What?"

"Tomorrow, when Hayden Corporation holds their quarterly earnings report, Drew is gonna be there, but he can't talk. His parents are scared of what he might say to the media. We need someone to call him out." Dawn tells May.

"And why me?" Can't they just find someone else to do it? Or pay someone? Though paying someone would then trace back to one of them, which no one wants right now.

"Because Hayden Corporation knows Solidad and me. They don't know you." May gives Dawn a skeptical look, causing Dawn to giggle nervously. "Okay. Well, they won't recognize you in a disguise like they'd recognize me. The media won't know you. If it was me there, they'd see me instantly, and that'll take the attention away from Hayden Corporation."

"Can't you have one of your employees do it or something?" May would rather not be near Hayden Corporation, especially in it.

"The less people who know about this, the better. We can't let anything slip." Although Dawn trusts her employees, one can never be too careful. If no one else needs to be added on, then no one else will be.

May contemplates Dawn's suggestion for a couple of minutes as Dawn expectantly watches her. "Why do you need me for hours?" Dawn could've just told May all of this at the orphanage. There's no need for a car ride to the city.

"Because Solidad has the details. She's been communicating with Drew the most, so she'll tell us the details for tomorrow."

"It's tomorrow?" May knows Brendan and Dawn had stated that earlier. However, just being reminded of how little time they have left makes her anxious.

"Has to be. He promised me 6 days." Dawn smirks recalling Drew's words earlier in the week.

"You don't actually believe him." Paul gruffly states from ahead.

"I find it hard to believe, but I'd rather believe in something than nothing at all, Paul. Plus, Drew said he wouldn't let us get hurt if things go south." Dawn backs up Drew.

"Again, and you believe him?"

"I do." May answers while Dawn glares at the back of Paul's head.

This causes Dawn to give May a shocked expression. "You believed in the old Drew, you mean? And he betrayed us, let me remind you." Dawn doesn't want May to get her hopes up or to get anything twisted. Although Drew admitted to Dawn that he's going through this trouble to be with May, Dawn is only helping to finally free May. May and the orphanage shouldn't have to feel constantly threatened by the corporation anymore. They deserve to be free.

May shakes her head. "No. I know it's weird, but even though he lost his memories, he reminds me a lot of the old him. He's less nice, but he's still Drew." May smiles slightly as her cheeks tint pink. "And he is the whole mastermind behind everything this time. I have to believe in him if I want this to have even a chance of working."

Refocusing on the road, Paul huffs out an annoyed breath. Dawn smiles at the shy woman. "True. We gotta believe in our leader if we wanna succeed."

Eventually, the car pulls up to Dawn's home, and everyone makes their way inside. May is anxious to see Solidad again. The last time they saw one another, May practically screamed at Solidad to stay out of her life. Although they spoke on the phone a few days ago, May isn't sure how to face the older woman. Thus, as they near the office room where they used to meet in years ago, May slows down her pace.

Dawn notices the brunette staying back, so Dawn stops to smile warmly at May. "Everything okay?"

May nods, though her nerves say otherwise. "Yeah. Just a little nervous. I was pretty harsh to Solidad last time I saw her."

The bluenette giggles. "Me too. I think I was pretty harsh with how I cut you both off completely." Fortunately, May and Solidad weren't as persistent in trying to talk to Dawn as Solidad was with May. Dawn didn't get pushed to the edge where she lashed back. Nevertheless, Dawn lives with her own guilt of selfishly abandoning them when everything went bad. She won't do that again.

"Dawn, I didn't mean that." May apologetically tells the woman who waves at her.

"It's okay, May. It's in the past. We're here now, and we've learned a lot." Dawn reassuringly says. "We're friends, and I know Solidad doesn't hold anything against us."

Nodding more confidently, May glances past Dawn at the office door. "I'm ready." Dawn grins widely and leads May to the door where Paul is already waiting by.

When it's swung open, they're greeted by the sight of a salmon haired woman and a purple haired man. The pair look at the opened door, and the woman smiles. "May. Dawn."

Dawn walks inside first followed by Paul. May, though, is hesitant. She isn't sure how to react, even if Dawn says everything is okay. Nevertheless, after Solidad hugs Dawn, she envelops May in a warm hug. "It's good to see you, May."

May finds her arms rising up to return the hug. She swallows the lump in her throat, grateful that Solidad is still as kind as ever. "It's good to see you too, Solidad." It's really good to see her. Everyone who is aware of the scandal years ago knows Solidad was sent to Slateport City as punishment. There's no way she would just up and leave Drew who just lost his memories from a horrific car accident.

When everyone finally sits down, Dawn asks the question on all of their minds. "Who's he?"

Before Solidad can answer, the purple haired man flamboyantly extends his hand towards Dawn, which makes Paul protectively step up. "I'm Harley, darling. And you're Dawn Berlitz of Berlitz Beauties." Harley does his research, but he doesn't have to. Everyone knows who Dawn Berlitz is.

Dawn shakes the hand. "Yes. Nice to meet you, Harley."

As Harley turns his attention to May, Solidad sweatdrops at how dramatic her secretary is. "He's my secretary. I trust him." Paul doesn't, so Paul just continues to glare at the touchy man.

"And you must be the famous May Maple I've heard so much about." Harley winks. "A little plain for my tastes, but the heart wants what it wants."

"Harley!" Solidad grabs his collar to drag him back to his seat. "Sorry, May!"

May is just amazed to have met someone like Harley. Blinking in confusion, the brunette just smiles slightly. "It's okay. Nice to meet you, Harley."

Giggling, Harley waves at her. "I can't believe I finally met the revolutionizing woman who's made our company heir fall for her twice. True love really does exist."

Solidad loudly clears her throat while stepping on Harley's foot. "Ignore him. He's been caught up on everything, but he doesn't know when to shut up." Paul can see that. The security guard wants to shut up Harley for good already.

While Harley is wincing from his foot, Dawn begins their meeting, "The orphanage has the legal work taken care of. Legal work as in what belongs to them and how to protect their assets. Drew says he knows what to say to the media, which I assume you're gathering, Solidad?"

Solidad slightly shrugs. "Kind of. The media will already be there, but I'll be sure to get Drew a place close by the podium."

Dawn then faces May. "And you'll be our disguised reporter asking Drew what he thinks the earnings will look like in 5 years when he takes over." Dawn had informed May of this in the car ride over.

"How will that get him to talk about the orphanage?" May inquires.

"It'll give him the platform." Solidad answers. "With everything going on right now, his parents won't allow him to talk to the media. If someone calls him out with a legitimate question, he'll have to have the mic."

"And then what?" May pushes. "Because let's say this works, and he tells the media about his company threatening the orphanage. What's stopping Hayden Corporation from ignoring the public backlash?"

The other four adults exchange sheepish looks. "May, honey, you're so cute." Harley places an affection hand on top of May's, causing the woman to awkwardly pull away.

Solidad grabs Harley's arm off the table and sighs. "I'm glad you don't fully understand our world, May. Keep your heart as pure as it is."

May raises a confused eyebrow at them for not answering her question. "Um. Thanks?"

"The stocks will go down." Paul gruffly tells her since no one is doing it.

Dawn nods. "Yeah. Drew's gonna make his company look really bad."

"Why? It's his company. He's gonna take over it soon." May notes.

"Because he loves you. He's willing to give up his life." Dawn reminds her, but May just chuckles sadly.

"Like last time? When he loved me but still left for Brianna. I don't believe it." snaps the brunette. Harley awkwardly looks away with his eyes open largely. He loves drama, but he knows Solidad will reprimand him for making it worse.

Solidad answers because she knows Drew the best, even though she's spoken to him the least these past few years compared to these other two women in the room. "Because he's unhappy with the life his parents want him to live."

"So I'm the second option?" May wants to ask Drew all of these questions, but she can't. Thus, she's laying it out painfully on Solidad again. May is glad her tears aren't coming out. She's shed enough over that grasshead.

Before Solidad can say otherwise, her phone rings. She's about to silence it when she sees the caller. Furrowing her brows as everyone curiously watches her, Solidad answers and puts the call on speaker, which she places in the middle of the table. "Is May a second option?"

"Huh?" The caller asks. He expected a greeting and talking about tomorrow rather than his relationship with May.

"Did I stutter, Drew?" Solidad sternly replies. Everyone else curiously watches the device. Also, none of them have ever seen Solidad's motherly side towards Drew before. It's surprising, and the fact that Drew is very receptive towards it too, considering how terrible he does with authority.

Stammering, Drew runs a nervous hand through his hair. "Uh. No. Why would you think that?"

"Because you're married to Brianna after we tried to stop you at your wedding, and now you want to be with May. It's not fair to treat her like a second option because you're not happy with your first."

"No!" Drew exasperates. "Brianna was never the first option! She was my parents, right?"

"But you still agreed to it." Solidad reminds him.

"Yeah, and I'm not sure why I did, okay?" Drew doesn't like how Solidad is blaming him for his past actions he doesn't remember, but she won't tell him anything about his past. Letting out a long breath, he adds, "She's not a second option. Ever since I met her, she's always been all I think about, alright? Solidad, you know I wouldn't lie about this, and I damn well wouldn't risk everything for a second option."

Solidad looks at May to see if that's an acceptable answer. May, though, is still dwelling on Drew's words. He's so honest with Solidad. Would he be that honest with May if she actually allowed him to talk about his emotions? May's heart is pounding, and her cheeks are heating up. She believes him. She's always believed him, but she's scared about this plan. Last time, they got a slap on the wrist. This time...everyone can lose everything, yet they're all wanting to help Drew succeed.

"You're on speaker. Why'd you call." Solidad finally says, causing Drew to blush profusely.

"Did they hear that?"

"Yup."

"Shit, Solidad!" Drew exclaims in embarrassment. The damage is already done, so Drew wants to end the call to hide until he calms down. "Just uh. See ya at 3 tomorrow."

"That's it?" inquires the older woman.

Drew makes a mental note to yell at Solidad later. He takes a few deep breaths and calms down enough to answer, "My family knows I've been seeing Dawn a lot. They suspect her, so she can't be there."

"That's fine. I'll just help disguise May again." Dawn shrugs. Plus, she's already done what Drew told her to do with her company to prepare for tomorrow.

"Solidad, you can't be seen here. It'll raise alarms too." Currently, Solidad is on vacation in another region. Dawn flew her out, so Solidad can't be tracked.

With concern, May looks at the women. "So I'm alone?" It's not like last time where she had someone most of the way. She's going to be completely alone.

Dawn and Solidad give May apologetic looks, but Drew calmly tells her, "I'll be there. I'll make sure you're okay." When he doesn't hear a response, though he has to go now because he spent too much time away from supervision, Drew reassures May, "I love you, May. I have to go. See you guys tomorrow. And thank you." The call then ends, causing everyone to gaze at the blushing brunette.

"We can't do this without you, May." Solidad reminds her.

Nodding slowly, May raises her head so that her determined eyes meet Solidad's. "Let's do this."

Hayden Mansion

"Fucking Solidad." Drew angrily mutters under his breath. Why couldn't she have warned him about being on speaker? Why did she have to ask him that question in front of everyone? Why did it even get brought up? Dawn and Solidad claim that Drew and May weren't romantic years ago, but she feels like a second option. Drew shakes his head. This is suspicious. He knows he was romantically involved with May, and he'll gain the evidence to make people admit it to him.

"Drew."

Inwardly groaning, Drew turns to face the older woman. "Hello, mother."

The green haired woman approaches him where she fixes his shirt collar. She then rests her hands on his shoulders to smile warmly into his annoyed green eyes. "You're very handsome."

"I know." It's nothing new, especially from her.

Margaret's smile falters sadly. "Can you walk the garden with me?" She always liked touring the garden with Drew. Unlike her husband, Drew actually takes interest in the garden, which Margaret loves working on.

"Do I have a choice?"

"You always have a choice."

"Like when you and dad forced me to marry Brianna?" counters the man, causing Margaret to remove her hands from Drew.

"Drew, please. I haven't asked anything of you in a long time."

"Because you demand it." Drew grumbles angrily, though he walks past his mother and back down the stairs. When he's at the bottom, he turns to face the sad woman. "Are you coming?"

The smile returns to Margaret's lips, and she hurries to join Drew who extends his elbow towards her. Grabbing his arm, Margaret follows her son through the house and into the back garden. Drew prefers spending time with his mother than his nagging wife upstairs. Because he's been gone the past couple of days, he's trying to lay low now to avoid any suspicions and lectures from his parents. Plus, Drew is in the garden with his mother due to it once being something he loved doing. Unlike his parents, he actually cares for his family. He'll be selfless for them.

They slowly walk past rows of flowers until they reach both of their favorite parts of the garden. Margaret stops Drew to look at a bright rose bush. "They're going to be really beautiful when they bloom."

He nods. "The gardeners take care of them well." Back when Drew was younger, he and his mother had one rose bush they would try to take care of themselves. Drew learned how to care for the plant from his mother who learned prior to marriage.

Margaret peers up at the grumpy man. With her free hand, she gently brushes his face, causing him to move his head away from her. This makes Margaret frown, though she understands why Drew is being so reserved. "I'm sorry, Drew."

"It doesn't change anything." Drew shrugs. "You guys are still gonna keep threatening me with the orphanage."

She shakes her head. "I've been talking to your father. I'm trying to convince him to let you keep volunteering there. I want him to leave the orphanage alone for good."

"Sure, mom." Drew chuckles in amusement. He's not falling for this again. This guilt trip his parents used to use on him when he was younger.

"Drew-"

Drew pulls his arm away from her as he walks further down the path. Margaret sighs and follows. "On your wedding day, I ran into May."

"And you told her to back off, but you still let her see me. I know." Drew recalls his mother telling them that she saw May that day.

"No. I told her I hope you choose love too, and then I let her see you." He stops in his tracks, but his attention remains on the flowers rather than his mother. Knowing that his interest is piqued, Margaret continues, "I never told you this story because I didn't want you to feel like you were never meant to be born. You're the best thing to ever happen to me, Drew."

"Sure." he mutters painfully. "What'd you say to May?"

"I told her about how I didn't choose love. I left the love of my life because my father's company was not doing well. Your dad promised to save it. He wanted to grow an empire with me."

"Congrats, mom." Drew fully stands up to face his mother. "You guys did just that. You got your happily ever after."

She apologetically meets his eyes. "Not happy, Drew. We have never been truly happy." Margaret approaches the annoyed man. "At first, I didn't trust May's intentions. You are a rich handsome heir. But seeing the lengths she went through, and the trust Solidad has in her, at your wedding, I knew." Margaret smiles. "She really is your love of your life."

"I don't believe you." Drew won't fall for these words. There's a reason his mother is telling him this before tomorrow's shareholders meeting. She doesn't want him to make a scene.

When Margaret puts her hand against Drew's cheek this time, he doesn't move away. It allows the two to look in each other's eyes. "I'm not trying to convince you of anything, Drew. Now that this is happening all over again, I'm starting to realize I haven't been a good mother to you." She rubs her thumb along his cheek. "I'm sorry, Drew." chokes out the woman.

Sighing, Drew wraps her in his arms because he saw her eyes tear up. Holding her close, he doesn't say anything. Just because he's hugging her, it doesn't mean he fully believes her. He's not a heartless person, nor is he a terrible son to ignore his weeping mother. His mother did say again, so this further makes Drew sure that he was in love with May before. Margaret said she wanted him to choose love. She told May that, so that must mean May was and still is Drew's love.

"Do you regret it?" Drew asks after a couple of silent minutes.

Margaret is enjoying his large hug. Despite him being bigger than her, it feels like when he was a child she was protecting. "Regret what?"

"Choosing dad."

"Do you regret choosing Brianna?"

Drew frowns because his mother is avoiding his question. "Everyday. I knew something wasn't right when I couldn't fall in love with her after I lost my memories. I never loved her." Margaret did just confirm that Drew didn't choose love, which means she didn't love Brianna.

Margaret rubs Drew's back. "At first, I didn't regret it because I knew I was doing it for my family." She smiles and pulls away from the hug to peer into Drew's handsome face. "And after I had you, I knew I could never regret something that brought you into my life."

"But you were never home." Drew reminds his mother of his lonely childhood.

"I regret that. Work consumed me. I know that."

To Margaret's surprise, Drew smiles slightly. The first smile he's shown her in weeks. "I know you tried." Eveytime Margaret was home, she'd spend time with Drew. It's why his fondest memories are in the garden with her.

"Give me some time. I will convince your father."

Chuckling, Drew leads his mother further into the garden. "Dad's stubborn. It's okay, mom."

"I want you to be happy. I won't let you make the same mistake as me." Margaret doesn't like how she once again allowed Drew to be put into this situation. The two then continue their walk as they focus on other topics. Topics they once talked lots about years ago. Both are enjoying their quality time again after so many years.

Orphanage

When May returns to the orphanage that evening, she's surprised to see Brendan is still there. He's alone in the office, which May assumes is because Tyler is putting the rest of the children to bed. Not trying to be rude, May gently knocks on the open door, causing Brendan to quickly face her. He awkwardly smiles.

"You're still here?" May asks as she walks in to sit beside him.

Brendan nods. "Yeah. Tomorrow is the day, right?" He wants to organize his information.

"But we'll have another day to prepare for Hayden Corporation's attack. They won't make a move immediately tomorrow."

"I wanna be prepared." Brendan stretches his arms up. Noticing the setting sun, he realizes he really is here late. "I should finish this up in my hotel room."

While he packs up his laptop and papers, May watches him. The way they broke up was pretty bad. She had stormed out after an argument where he didn't trust her. "Brendan."

The man stops moving to curiously look at her. She still looks as pretty as he remembers. It makes his heart ache. "Yeah?"

"I'm sorry… about the way we ended… I shouldn't have stormed out. I should've talked to you."

He sits back down to shake his head. "No! It was my fault." Brendan runs a hand through his hair. "I was being insecure and accusing you of things."

"But I wasn't telling you everything! I should've told you that I saw him." Although May didn't tell Brendan due to wanting to avoid this whole argument.

"I was trying to force you to love me. I shouldn't have." Brendan exclaims.

The two awkwardly look at each other before breaking out in laughter, like when they'd apologize as children. May warmly smiles at Brendan. "Okay. How about we both forgive each other?"

Brendan extends a hand out to her. "Deal, best friend."

The woman shakes it. "Are we really best friends again?"

He shrugs nervously. "I can't imagine a life without you, May. And I think we've always been best as friends."

"I do miss your friendship." It's all May had going for her when she was younger. After Brendan's father took him from the orphanage, May was very lonely without him. Once Brendan came back years ago, May was excited, despite also having Drew with her. These past couple months without Brendan have just reminded May of the void he left when he first left the orphanage.

"How about we go back to before I left the orphanage?" Growing up together and protecting each other like siblings has always been the best relationship for them.

"I was going to ask the same thing." May giggles while relaxing. When she first entered the office, she wasn't sure what she was going to say. However, May did and still does feel like she owes Brendan an explanation. "I did love you. I really did."

He nods. "I loved you too. The timing was bad." What if he never left? No. Brendan knows that answer. It's happened twice already. No matter what, whether he and May had actually ventured off to college at 18 or whether they both chose to stay and help the orphanage, May would've met Drew somehow. She would've fell in love with him, and as much as she'd try not to hurt Brendan, the heart wants what it wants. Shaking his head, Brendan quickly says, "No. It wasn't the timing."

May raises a curious eyebrow at his words. "What do you mean?"

"You and Drew were always meant to be."

With a blush on her cheeks, May rubs the back of her head. "Yeah. I figured that after he lost his memories and still somehow ran into me in Petalburg and fell for me all over again."

"And you've never stopped loving him." Brendan notes, causing May to apologetically frown. He gives her a reassuring smile. "I've come to terms with it already, May. It's alright." The woman awkwardly avoids eye contact, and Brendan knows that means she's in denial of something she fully knows the answer to. Chuckling, he says, "You can't lie to yourself, May." Brendan is surprised May has held herself back for so long from confessing to Drew and telling Drew about his lost memories.

"I know." sighs the defeated woman. "But one problem at a time."

"Yeah." Brendan finishes packing up his stuff. "I want you to be happy, May. I always do." Even if it's not with him. Brendan swings his bag over his shoulder, and May stands too.

She gently wraps her arms around him, much to his surprise. Using his free arm, Brendan hugs her back. "Thank you, Brendan." Unlike with their encounter this morning, May forgives Brendan now. Talking with everyone else earlier is making May really believe their plan is going to be successful. She shouldn't be bitter anymore over her life. She needs to move on, and she can start right now with forgiving her ex. Moreover, May has really missed Brendan's friendship. His true friendship from when they were children.

When they pull away, both adults exchange genuine smiles. Not the awkward ones they first shared when May entered the room. This is the closure she needed, and she's glad Brendan understands everything. He seems to understand more than she does. May really hopes Brendan finds happiness too. He deserves it. With a lighter heart, May walks him out of the orphanage.

We're nearing the end of the drama, but Drew still needs to regain his memories...
