I LIIIIIVVVEEE! So, its been a long time since any updates to this story where ever added, but thats changing with this update, the first one of the revival of my account. I am going to apologise in advance if the quality has dropped slightly as I'm definitely rusty.

~...~

As they flew through the night in a comfortable silence, Hiccup continued to scan the vast oceans, looking for anything they should be concerned about, anything that was out of the ordinary, which to his relief, he never encountered. Hiccup had taken things more seriously ever since Berk became a target, and he never wanted to be caught off guard, as he feared what impact that could have on Berk; he had put unfair pressure upon himself, making himself Berk's Guardian without them knowing meant that almost every other night, he and Toothless had to fly miles to patrol Berk, sometimes sleeping over high up the mountain and returning a few days later.

That was the main reason it had taken so much more to convince Toothless to make trips, as the dragon was getting exhausted and worn out from such long flights, and considering how little action Toothless got, he couldn't justify the flights when there wasn't anything worth his time and effort. The most action the Nightfury had was blowing up two ships when they were retreating after a failed kidnapping, but that was hardly any fun for him. Atleast at their new home he and Mystery could fight and keep themselves battle-ready. Sure, it was good bonding time for the two of them, but that was all it offered.

Hiccup sighed and patted his dragon's back. "We can take a break Toothless, we don't need to come back for a few days." He heard his dragon sigh in relief. The break was welcome and deserved, living the two lives of a Guardian and a survivor was taking its toll. "Honestly, its about time we had a rest."

"Damn right it is; between these flights, the patrols and all the heavy lifting I have to do, I'd say I've earned a break." Hiccup laughed softly, patting the ebony mounts neck. His friend was right, he had earned a break, and, while Hiccup wouldn't admit it, he hated having to separate him from Mystery, the two were really getting close. The young Viking sighed, eyes lazily scanning the vast waters. He hoped to see a new dragon more than anything, something new and exciting.

A Scauldron, he read about them in the Book of Dragons, though in fairness he read everything about every dragon in there at some point. Patrolling Berk at night did come with the free time to read the Book and even begin making his own collection of notes; feeding habits, and weaknesses mostly. There were so many dragons out there, waiting to be found, trained, and Hiccup wanted to discover them all, train them all and use that power for the greater good. Ending the Viking-Dragon war was the first step, and probably the hardest. Sure, the attacks had stopped after the Red Death, but the blood between the two still ran deep.

Hiccup hadn't realised he had drifted on into thought until Toothless roughly shook him off his back. "Huh? Whoa!" he exclaimed before landing on his butt.

"I told you like three times we were home and you weren't listening." Grumbled the dragon, before walking over to his pen tiredly. "Night brother." He added with a yawn, before heating up a circle in the ground and curling up against the now warmed stone.

"Night Toothless." Hiccup replied, getting up off the ground and walking into his own hut. He noticed Heather had fallen asleep in one of the chairs, and he smiled, hooking his arms under her before carrying her to her bedroom. Laying her beneath the covers, he ran a hand through her hair before leaving for his own room.

In truth, Hiccup wasn't tired, and with no-one awake to distract him, he saw now as a good time. Since he couldn't very well steal the Book of Dragons, he began putting together his own smaller Book, containing notes he had taken from the Book or other things he had discovered through his dragon friends, like for example, that the spines on Blightfox are not on every dragon of his kind at birth, and that some may never actually grow them at all.

The world out there was full with so many dragons that the Book never spoke off, dragons that had never even be heard of across the Archipelago, living out beyond the Fog Ring and spread all across Midgard, and who knows which other Realm's. Mystery had told him that if he was to write down everything she and the other dragons knew about Dragon-kind, he'd be dead before he was halfway done.

It never ceased to amaze Hiccup just how advanced and massive the Dragon world really was. He used to believe, like most of Berk that it was soo much smaller, that the Book of Dragons had everything on every dragon that ever lived, yet now, these very dragons were telling him how little the Book really had.

He took out his own Book of Dragons, collected his notes and began writing them into the Book, adding in the notes Mystery had given him; turned out she loved correcting all the Vikings mistakes and teaching Hiccup about the world of Dragons, something Toothless didn't seem to share much of an interest in. He was just concerned with the next feed, going for the morning flights and when his next chance to blast something was, though he very, very heavily refused to talk about Nightfuries, never telling anything, and, if Hiccup was to be honest, he wouldn't have been surprised if Toothless himself didn't know anything about his own species.

"Nightfury.. C'mon theres gotta be something else to write down about them.." He sighed, staring at the pages meant for his best friends that remained fairly blank and dull for what was the sixth day in a row now. Nobody had anything to tell him about Nightfuries that he didn't already know, and it was slowly beginning to get to him.

He felt a soft hand fall upon his shoulder, and he turned to face the owner, for his eyes to meet the beautiful green eyes of Heather, smiling tiredly at him. "Hiccup, you should.." she yawned admist her sentence before continuing "Get some sleep, you've been up.. Late every night for the past few days."

"Yeah, I know Heather, I just.. I wanna get this finished and out the way."

"Hiccup, I know you're frustrated, that theres nothing new to write about the Nightfuries, I want to learn more about them too. It's just, difficult. They're supposedly extinct, save Toothless and I dont think any of the dragons we live with were alive long enough to know much about them." On that, Hiccup knew Heather was partly right. While the majority of their scaled family weren't old enough to know anything about the Nightfuries from when they were alive, Mystery and Toothless themselves knew something, and Hiccup was sure beyond all belief Toothless was hiding something about his kind.

"Yeah, you're right.. Its not even the Book or anything thats the issue.. Its, the fact the Nightfuries are gone.. I mean, I can't imagine just how lonely Toothless might actually be." He sighed, staring at the drawing of his best friend, sketched when the Nightfury was asleep. He ran a hand through his auburn hair and flipped the book closed before placing it back beneath his bed. Getting up from his seat, he paced over to the window of his room, looking out towards the huts that the dragons slept in, noting how peaceful they looked and how content they appeared to be with their accommodation.

Hiccup hadn't wanted to leave them with nothing, having them sleep out in the open, cold nights, not after all they had done for him, building them some wooden huts to atleast help keep them warm and dry during cold and rainy nights was the very least he could do.

As a content smile started to tug at his lips, Hiccup pulled himself away, walking over to his bed. Heather had at some point, most likely while he was gazing out the window, already retired to her own bed, not that Hiccup could blame her. He didn't have a Sun Dial but, if he were to hazard a guess judging from the shadows from the Moonlight, he would assume somewhere in the early hours, possibly an hour or so after midnight.

Climbing beneath the warm fabric that made his blanket, Hiccup looked at the window before closing his eyes and letting much needed sleep overtake him, lulling him and his subconscious mind away from reality into the world of dreams and imagination.

He couldn't tell just how long he had overslept, as when he awoke, sunlight wss bleeding in through the window and the world beyond had brightened considerably, not to mention had grown louder and unsettled with the dragons awake. He threw himself out of bed, stretching and yawning before getting up and making his way to leave. He opened the front door of his hut to see Heather, back turned and sitting cross-legged on the ground with both Silver and Midnight.

He smiled and made a 'shush' gesture towards the two Dragonlings before they alerted Heather, and he crouched down behind her silently. Without warning, he quickly wrapped his arms around her, lifting her to her feet as he stood back up. Heather yelped in surprise when she felt herself get lifted suddenly, and quickly turned to playfully punch Hiccup for sneaking up on her.

Laughing, he let her go and began to rub where she had punched him. "Morning to you too, Heather." He commented softly.

"You know sneaking up on me like that doesn't end well for you." Her faltering tone gave away the fact Heather was actually startled and had reacted out of fear and instinct. "I'm guessing you slept well, its almost midday."

"Yeah, I did.'

"Good, you needed it Hiccup, staying up every night till the early morning isn't good... So, got any plans for today?" He shook his head in a "no" fashion.

"No, Toothless is starting to get exhausted from the flights and night patrols, and I know you and the dragons have still been working hard without us.. It's about time we had a real break, a chance for us to spend time together." Heather smiled at that.

"G-good.. I've wanted to just.. Have an us day for awhile, I just, didn't want to say anything." She blushed slightly, trying to ignore the heat rushing to her face. "You know, you're always busy with the book or with the dragons and I don't want to get in the way of that, I can see how much it means to you."

"Heather, you could never get in the way of anything, you are more important to me than that Book, you, the dragons, this.. New life, it matters so much more than some parchment wrapped in fancy leather." he pulled her into a gentle hug. "Starting today, I want to prove to you just how important to me you really are.."
