Luo Qingtong was born the eldest miss of the Luo family, an influential family in the Eastern country of the Zhenyan Continent. Although her father was a skilled warrior and her mother a highly skilled alchemist, they were both gone before she had ever reached the age of two and was thus raised by her loving grandfather.
Before her disappearance, Qingtong's mother had healed the fifth prince of the Tianwu Country, Yuwen Mo, when no other healer could. A marriage contract was drafted between the prince and her daughter, despite the dislike Yuwen Mo's mother had for it, she didn't refute it as she was thankful her son would have a future as a cultivator.
Despite being raised by her grandfather, Luo Qingtong was a happy child. She was quickly hailed a genius as her skills were tested and they grew. No one knew she was a Soul Cultivator besides her grandfather and they decided to keep it that way.
Soul Cultivators were rare and treasured due to the many skills one can preform, from pill concoction, to inscription and even arrays! Martial cultivators, which were the majority of people, couldn't preform these skills and their progress was much slower as well as they had to hone their bodies before moving in rank.
When she had express her wish to learn alchemy, like her mother, her grandfather had given her his mother's notes and few other things she had left behind for her to use. Adding in her knowledge of potions from her time as Lyra Potter, she had a lot of pills created and distributed between herself and her grandfather.
Luo Qingtong, formerly known as Lyra Potter, had been given a second chance in life by Death after she had solely focused on Teddy's needs and wants as a child. She didn't want him to grow up and live the life she had and once the war had ended, everyone still had demands from her, so she had bundled Teddy up and left the country, going from place to place. She had learned a lot during her travels and made sure the her godson had the best of everything growing up. It wasn't healthy, as she still had nightmares, but focusing on Teddy had helped her forget her own problems.
It was only when Death had asked if she would like to have a do-over did she agree. Teddy was married and already a kid of his own, where did she fit into his life then? She knew he loved her, but he had his own life now and didn't need her anymore, so she had agreed, even though it was a totally different world.
It was sad that her parents weren't with her, but she knew that they had genuinely loved her from the early moments of her life. And she had her grandfather too, who she absolutely loved! Death had even given her a gift in the form of an egg that appeared when she was a toddler and hatched into a baby dragon. That was also something else that her grandfather and her had hidden.
The rest of her family, not so much. All they ever did was try to scheme on how to get her stuff. Many of her things were from her parents and others was because of her engagement to the fifth prince, Yuwen Mo. She honestly had no idea what to think about her engagement as she wanted to marry someone out of love, something she couldn't do as Lyra due to her fame, but she decided to test the waters first. She had met him yet and hey, he might not be all that bad!
Thanks to her mother's notes and her own knowledge when she had retaken potions again-which was actually a very nice subject without Snape as her teacher-she had created pills that would help her strengthen her body as well as cosmetics. Looks and reputation was everything in this new world and she planned on being the best. Even if she planned on hiding everything until she was going to attend the Roman Saint Academy.
A lot of the ingredients were hard to come by, but everything was made easier by her awesome pair of eyes.
Pupil Soul Seal.
Pupillary Vision.
The ability to uncover all the secrets of the world with a single glance. It had been ages since someone from her family was a Soul Cultivator and grandfather had shown her the family secret achieves. They helped her greatly when making inscription and arrays, which she set up around the manor, along with a couple of wards for protection.
"Use these notes well Qi'er until you are enrolled into the Roman Saint Academy. You'll find someone who will be able to teach you everything there." he smiled.
"Will the others not get the same eyes as mine grandfather?" she asked curiously, but he shook his head.
"This is a secret I've not told anyone else, but you Qi'er are a smart child so I want you to keep it to yourself." he said serious and she nodded, only to get blown away at what she had heard.
Her second and third uncles were adopted! According to her grandfather, only her own father Luo Jinghong was his blood related son, which was why she was the only one who could inherit the Luo family's pupillary vision as a Soul cultivator.
When he was younger, her grandfather had fallen in love with a woman, her grandmother, but misunderstandings and slander had gotten between them. By the time her grandfather had reached where her grandmother was, she had already jumped down a cliff. At the bottom of the cliff he couldn't find her, but only their son, her father, who was very weak and needed immediate medical attention.
His family wanted him to marry again, but he had refused as she was the only woman he had ever loved and he wasn't going to be with anyone else. He had adopted two other boys, who no one knew were adopted except his family, and declared that he had enough children, so they could leave him alone. Adopted children weren't treated well, even worse than concubine children, so it wasn't revealed outside.
Qingtong couldn't help but cry and hug her grandfather after the tragic romance her grandfather had faced and promised to go to the shrine with him to pay her respects to her grandmother. Knowing both her grandfather and parents had wonderful life partners had her yearning for someone who would love her too.
"Do not worry Qi'er, if you don't want the marriage contract just tell me. Grandfather will have it annulled anytime."
How could she not love her grandfather, who would go against those who were much stronger than him for her?
So she began looking around the bigger countries at night for ingredients that would help them raise in cultivation rapidly. She had even gone to the Nine-Witch Mountains and found an incredible healing pool which she brought back for tests and improvements, and some for her grandfather to have.
Qingtong wanted to find her mother, who was from the higher lands according to her grandfather. Her mother had to leave to protect her, so she wanted to be strong enough to bring her back, or at least help her with any problem she was facing. That was why she had to be at least a Martial Emperor by the time she started Saint Roman Academy, and her grandfather should at least break through to a Martial Spirit.
With the help of her magic, she was able to pinpoint where the best dense spiritual energy was to cultivate and brought her grandfather with her to cultivate together. It was their secret, like many things that the rest of their family didn't know.
Luo Xinning was a foul little girl and it honestly astonished her by how vile she was. The delusional girl for some reason believed that everything that belong to her, Luo Qingtong, was rightfully hers, Luo Xinning. Why? She didn't know, but she still tried to maintain a good relationship with the girl.
She tried asking for cultivation good, but the girl had a weak body so she was only given medicine and tonics, and even then, not the best one. It was a world of reputation and everyone only knew that was a kind older sister to her sickly little one.
She, Luo Qingtong, was an incredible beauty, a genius at cultivation and a kind free spirited girl that got along with anyone, whether they were nobles or commoners, while Luo Xinning was a haughty sickly little girl with no talent whatsoever and absolutely rude.
How exactly did she think of competing?

When Luo Qingtong was eleven, she and her grandfather had gone to the Tianwu Palace to meet with her future husband.
She was not pleased.
For starters, both his mother and sister hated her. Probing their minds gently, she realized it was because of her lower status and according to them, their genius brother/son deserved more. She couldn't help but inwardly scoff. Didn't they realize that without her mother Yuwen Mo wouldn't be the person he is today?
Said fiancé was also cold. He simply ignored her and when he spoke, she got the feeling that she wasn't welcomed. His arrogance was really annoying her and she wondered why exactly did her family agree to this match. The only normal person was the Emperor, surprisingly, who had welcomed them with open arms.
Yeah, no. She didn't want to marry this guy. He didn't even want to marry her from what she had seen, but he hadn't broken off the engagement. It made her wonder why and she activated her eyes discreetly and looked at him.
There were chills on his body, more importantly, it seemed like it was being contained by something, so she gently dove into his mind and what she found was astonishing. No wonder he didn't want to break off the engagement. He didn't want to marry her, but he needed her mother's jade pendant, which was apart of the engagement gift exchange. If the engagement was broken off, then he'd have to return it and that would cripple him.
The cold illness he suffered as a child was still in his body. It was original his Soul Seal that had spilled over. Her mother's pendant, which she had the other half as it belonged to her father, was what was helping him control it and keep it within his body. Without it, he would fall victim to his illness long ago and unable to cultivate. Qingtong wasn't even sure he would live.
Did she care thought?
No, no she did not.
This was her second chance at life, where her happiness and her life were suppose to matter. Had he been kind to her and welcomed her, than she would have found a substitute that would help but still break off the engagement. Now though? He didn't care about her, so why should she care about him?
"Grandfather, is it possible for us to cancel the engagement?" she asked once they were out of the palace.
Old Luo looked startled and concerned, "Did you not like the prince? Did he do something to you?"
"He was very cold grandfather, practically ignored him the entire time. The few times he did speak to me he made it clear he never cared about me. Even his sister and mother don't like me and I don't want to live with in-laws who don't like me, even if the Emperor was really kind." she said and held his hands, "Grandfather I want to have something special with the person I'll pledge the rest of my life with. Just like you had with grandmother and just like my parents had. Please break off the engagement grandfather. I-I can't..." she didn't mean to cry, but the thought of having to marry such a person, who was only after the pendant and not her had her remembering all those terrible dates she had gone on and the betrayals of when she was Lyra Potter.
Her grandfather had brought her into a hug, "I'm sorry Qi'er. Grandfather will break the engagement himself. That terrible boy! As if he is worthy of my granddaughter. I'll even have all the engagement gifts given back." he swore and gently wiped away her tears. "Don't worry Qi'er, grandfather will make sure you live a good life, no the best life. I promise."
And Qingtong, who never had someone love her so unconditionally before, cried harder.
They had returned two weeks later, with all the engagement gifts in a spatial ring, one of the very first things she had created with the notes in the Luo family on inscriptions as they were a lot like runes but at the same time different.
The Emperor was furious at his son and immediately called him over. Qingtong knew he would refuse and had to continuously use her magic to get things moving along. Yuwen Mo looked pale and panicked, but she didn't care.
This was her life now and she wouldn't let anyone dictate it!
"These are all the engagement gifts we had received and have brought them back." her grandfather said, taking everything out of the ring and gave a nearby euench the list to look over. "I'd like you to give back my daughter-in-laws jade pendant Prince Yuwen Mo." he said, his voice hardening. She had told her grandfather what the pendant would do to the prince, but like her he didn't care.
Only her happiness was all that mattered.
"N-No. You can't take it. I'll be better to her from now on." the pleading was clear for all and she could see the confusion on the Emperor's face.
"You've already signed away to nullify the engagement and they've brought back everything. Stop this foolishness and give back their pendant." he said, having never seen this side of his son before.
But Yuwen Mo simply shook his head, and grasped his chest, "You can't have it."
"Yes I can." and without another word, her grandfather had the boy pinned and removed the pendant from where it hung around his neck and then came back to where she stood.
Almost immeadelty, the prince fell on the floor and screamed, much to everyone's alarm. Taking the pendant from her grandfather, she had disabled the enchantments on it, so even if they forcibly took it back, it won't work.
"Give it back. Give it back." and the proud prince rolled over the ground and wisped of coldness escaped his body as it turned blue.
"Mo'er! Mo'er! What's going on!" his mother rushed in, along with his sister and attendants, "What did you do?!" she glared at the Luo duo but Old Luo sneered.
"We simply nullified the engagement just as you wanted. It seems that with the engagement ending, the work of my daughter-in-law had undone itself and your son is as he was when he was child." he said as doctors rushed around the screaming cold boy, "Everything has returned to the way it was before we had met. Or did you forget why the engagement contract existed in the first place?"
The mother and daughter duo could only glare hatefully as Yuwen Mo was taken away.
"Let's go Qi'er, we have no further business here today." he said and taking her hand the grandfather and granddaughter duo had went on their way.
"Do you really think we'll let you go that easily!?" Yuwen Xue exclaimed, "Give back the pendant!"
"And why should I? It belonged to my mother and thus mine. Your brother only had it because of the engagement. A genius? Please, he only reached that far because of our family yet you have the nerve to look down on us?" Qingtong sneered hatefully, as she walked towards the princess, who seemingly shrunk within her self.
Then she smirked, "Why don't we do this?" and without another word, put the pendant back on. Much to their shock, the boy was still emitting chillness from his body, so she took it off and walked to her grandfather, "The pendant's enchantments would only work for as long as we were engaged. Not only would it suppress the coldness, but it would also empower him. Why else do you think he quickly grew in power. Because he was a genius? No, it was because of this pendant. After all, which parent wouldn't want their son-in-law to be strong to protect their daughter?" she grinned as it had finally sunk in to those around what had happened.
"But hey, he's your pride and joy, your genius brother who obviously deserved better. Well, you can have him back, but I will remember this the next time the royal family needs the help of my family. I'll remember how you have no problem biting the hand that helped you."
With the engagement broken, Qingtong and her grandfather had gone home, where her grandfather had her wear her best clothes and brought her to the best restaurant to celebrate.
She was finally free!
End of chapter! Hope you enjoyed!
