The full moon illuminated the night sky over Republic City which had just suffered one of its greatest battles. At the Temple of the Air Island, the greatest celebration of all was taking place, in honor of their victory in the war.
Shortly after defeating Shredder, the heroes returned to the dock where they were surprised to notice the presence of the spirits. All of them, including the mutants, bowed in thanks for their help, although Raph mentioned that it was better late than never.
They were offered to join their celebration party, but the spirits refused and returned to the spirit world waiting for things to return to normal, which they all accepted.
All mutants were enjoying the party, as well as all humans. They didn't mind being taken for spirits, as they were happy to be out in the open without anyone feeling fear or hatred of them.
"How are your wounds, dad?" Jinora asked with concern.
"Thanks to your Aunt Kya, I feel better than before." said Tenzin.
"Aren't you angry because we're facing Shredder?" Ikki asked.
"Quite the contrary. I've never been prouder of you in all my life. You're certainly a great airbenders." said Tenzin.
The young airbenders smiled before the four of them embraced in a family hug.
"Now go. Enjoy the party." Tenzin said before his children listened to him and went to enjoy the celebration while he smiled proudly.
"I'm rethinking retirement." Lin said, resting at a table.
"Are you serious?" asked Kya sitting next to him.
"This city is becoming increasingly noisy and troublesome. I don't think I can take it anymore." said Lin.
"Don't say that." said Kya, placing her hand on hers. "You are the best police chief this city can ever have. Without you, everything would be in chaos. You can't leave yet."
Lin gave the waterbender a smile. "It's okay. I'll stay on the job, but only until I find someone worthy to succeed me." Lin said.
"That's fine." Kya said, sharing a smile with her.
"You know, for a mutant pigeon, you're pretty tough." Bumi said to Pete, who was pecking at a piece of bread.
"Thank you and you're pretty strong for a human being." said Pete.
"Oh, let's just say I've had my battles in the past." Bumi said, not wanting to bother anyone else with his past stories.
"Really? Like what?" asked Pete to the surprise of the airbender.
"Do you... want to hear my stories?" asked Bumi in surprise.
"Why not? I have nothing else to do." said Pete.
Bumi was about to scream and jump for joy, but preferred not to do so as not to scare him off.
For the rest of the party, Bumi enjoyed telling Pete about his adventures in the United Forces, and although he didn't understand half of it, he was enjoying it quite a bit.
Rockwell was showing a group of people his telepathic abilities by lifting some objects into the air and spinning them.
"Wow. It's like airbending. And you say it's all with the mind?" asked Kai, amazed at the mutant monkey's powers.
"That's right. Many studies claim that humans are only able to use 10% of their brain capacity, and by using increased capacity, you end up getting some special abilities." explained Rockwell.
"Wow. I wish I could do something like that." said Kai.
"Are you kidding me? You're an airbender. In my opinion, you have more capacity than a normal human." Rockwell said.
"I know, but I feel like I can't do more. Even Zaheer managed to fly in the air like a bird. And he was a rookie just like me." Kai said.
"Mmm. Maybe you just need to train a little more, but not physically or spiritually, but mentally." Rockwell said.
"Really?" Kai asked.
"I'm sure, with a few studies and some concentration, you'll get to do a lot of things." Rockwell said.
"Wow, thank you, dr. Rockwell." said Kai, making the mutant monkey smile at the mention of his title.
"Hope you got what you asked for." Asami told the woman criminal.
"Of course. Thanks to this war, it will be easier for us to increase our territory and a couple of boxes full of that Kraang metal will be delivered to us tomorrow." said Jargala.
"You better not use it for anything bad." Donnie said.
"Relax. As I said before, I'm only interested in making armor out of that material and if any of my men decide to do something else, well, let's just say they'll get a hard time." said Jargala before she walked away, but she stopped and turned her head to look at the turtle. "By the way. Take this." Jargala said, throwing a bag to Donnie, who was surprised when he saw a piece of jennamite inside. "Consider it a reminder." she said before walking away again.
Donnie smiled at the gift, as he was somewhat interested in the mineral.
"By the way…" a voice surprised the engineer and the turtle, who turned to see Varrick. "Since you are talking about business, there are a few things that have me intrigued and I would like to know if..."
"NO." they both said in unison, having an idea of what I was talking about.
"Hey, is it wrong to want to investigate otherworldly technology?" Varrick asked.
"YES." they both said at the same time.
"Sorry I'm curious." Varrick said, folding his arms and walking away.
"You weren't lying about him." Donnie said.
"No. I wasn't." said Asami.
"Joppa. I can't believe they get all the glory." said Casey complaining.
"Oh, come on. You helped a lot in the war." said April.
"Yes, but defeating one of Shredder's subordinates isn't comparable to taking on Shredder himself and winning later." Casey said.
"Take it easy. I'm sure someday there will come a time when you'll engage in a great battle." said April.
"I hope so. Both ours and this world are missing out on the greatness of Casey Jones." Casey said with a proud smile.
April rolled her eyes at her friend's behavior as she smiled.
"What am I going to do with you?" April asked.
Mako and Raph were sitting at a table, as they weren't in the mood to dance a little to the music.
"Who knew the spirits would end up helping us." said Raph.
"From what I'm told, it looks like an old friend of Tenzin's convinced them to do it." Mako said.
"Heh. Well, I hope I remember to thank him if I ever meet him." Raph said, drinking from his cup of tea. "By the way, how come you didn't tell me you had such amazing power?"
"You're talking about lightning generation? I guess it didn't come up. Besides, not many firebenders are able to learn that technique." said Mako.
"What about what you talked about with Korra?" Raph asked, recalling that conversation during the fight.
"Weeks ago, she asked me to help her learn lightning generation so she could be stronger. I didn't think it would even work at that point." said Mako.
"Well, sometimes things can work out at the critical moments." Raph said.
"Ready, buddy." said Mikey.
"Ready when you are." said Bolin.
Mikey gave a toothy smile as he threw a smoke bomb that covered him and the earthbender. When the smoke cleared, it revealed both of them in rapping clothes and dancing the robot, for the amusement of others.
Opal couldn't help but laugh at her boyfriend's antics.
Sitting at another table were Karai and Splinter.
"This is quite a celebration." Karai said with a smile.
"Aren't you going to join them?" asked Splinter before drinking some tea.
"I don't like to be the center of attention." said Karai.
"You saved a lot of lives today; you deserve to relax a little." began Splinter before looking at the party. "Besides, there seems to be someone else who wants you to join in too."
Karai looked up to see Jinora looking at her with a smile and gesturing to join in the fun. The kunoichi smiled before giving her father a quick hug and joining the party with the others.
"How's your arm?" Korra asked her father with concern.
"It's fine. Kya says I just need some rest and your mother will make sure of it." said Tonraq with a slight laugh.
"What you did was very dangerous. He could have killed you if I hadn't come." said Korra.
"She's right. Few who faced Shredder have been able to survive. My brothers and I are one of those few." said Leo.
"I know, but I would have done it more times if it meant protecting my daughter." Tonraq said before looking in a particular direction. "Although it seems you already have someone else to protect you."
Korra was confused until she looked in the same direction as her father to see Asami and Donnie chatting quietly.
It was then that she understood what her father was referring to. She remembered all the moments when Asami was by her side, even when she was the only person she thought about during her recovery time. She would never feel about another person the way he felt about her. So, she made a big decision, one that could mean a big change for her and many people.
Leo noticed the look on her face, and even though he didn't know what she was thinking or what she was going to do, he could tell it was something very important. He put his hand on her shoulder to get her attention.
"Whatever you're going to do, you have my full support." Leo said with a smile.
Korra smiled back when she saw what a good friend the mutant turtle was despite everything. With a determined mind, Korra stood up, but before she could take a single step, she noticed something in the distance, or rather, someone.
At the edge of the celebration area, there was a person leaning against the back of a tree, as if he didn't want anyone to see him.
"Don't you want to join in?" the person turned his head to see the Avatar.
The figure took a couple of steps towards it, coming out of the shadows and revealing himself as Kuvira.
"No thanks. I feel like I don't belong here." said Kuvira.
"Don't say that. Everyone here helped in the battle just like you. Besides, you have to take advantage of the fact that they let you stay tonight." said Korra.
Kuvira couldn't help but smile at the kindness of her former friend and enemy.
"I guess I could try." said Kuvira.
"By the way, how is your wound?" Korra asked.
"It's getting better. Luckily, it didn't cause me any major damage, and if it weren't for your mutant friend who arrived on time with bandages, I probably would have died." said Kuvira explaining certain details.
"Which wouldn't have been right?" a voice surprised the two women who turned to see Asami approaching them.
"Asami, I..." began Kuvira.
"Stop." said Asami stopping the metalbender. "I want you to know that it will take me a long time to forgive you for my father." began Asami before a smile formed on her face. "But what you have done for my girlfriend and for all of us in that war shows that you are truly willing to change."
Kuvira smiled back at him. "Thank you." Kuvira said gratefully.
"I'd like to say something too." the three women turned to the side to see Opal approach. "I've talked to my mother." Opal began, discouraging the metalbender a bit, as she didn't have the courage to confront her yet. "And she says... she owes you an apology." Opal said, surprising her quite a bit.
"Does he?" Kuvira asked.
"Yes. She said she would like to make things right with you. So, she talked to President Zhu Li and the court, and because of your help in the battle against Shredder, they all agreed to release you into her custody." Opal said, further surprising the metalbender.
"Does that mean... I'm going home?" Kuvira asked.
"But you will be under house arrest. They still haven't forgotten what you did to them and they hope you can make up for it and if you ever try to escape, you'll go back to your cell." Opal said.
"I understand." said Kuvira. "And thank you."
Opal smiled at her before wrapping her in a hug, to the surprise of the metalbender and joy of Avatar and engineering.
"You may not have been born a Beifong." Opal began by parting from the hug. "But you will always be part of the family."
Kuvira was using all her strength not to cry, but she couldn't stop a tear from appearing in the sides of her eyes, though she quickly wiped her face.
"Come on. Let's go to the party. The others are waiting for us." said Opal, grabbing Kuvira's hand and pulling her towards the party, leaving the Avatar and the engineer alone, who laughed at the situation of the metalbender.
Now that they were alone, it was the perfect time for Korra.
"Asami." began Korra by drawing her girlfriend's attention to herself. "Can you come with me for a moment?"
A nod was all she needed, so she grabbed the engineer's hand and led her away from the party. In the end, the two women arrived at an area quite far from everyone, where they couldn't see them or vice versa. The only light they had in that place was the full moon high in the night sky.
"Why have you brought me here?" Asami asked.
"Because I wanted to tell you something." started Korra turning around and holding her hands. "I'm sorry you had to see me in the state I was in before."
"Korra, it wasn't your fault, Shredder provoked you. Anyone in your situation would have gone through the same thing." said Asami.
"I know, but I keep feeling that I could have really crossed that line, but I didn't... because there you were." said Korra, surprising the engineer a little. "Whenever I was in trouble, you were there to help me. Even when I was recovering at the South Pole, the thing that motivated me the most was to see you again. I've come to understand that I can't live without you. I want you to be by my side all the time. I know this may seem sudden, but I want to do it."
Asami let out a small gasp when Korra knelt on one leg. "Asami Sato..., will you marry me?"
Asami was speechless for a few seconds, which troubled Korra thinking she would refuse, but then, she saw tears running down her face as she gave her the biggest smile she had ever seen.
"Yes! I do! Yes!" shouted Asami.
Korra stood up and the two of them shared a strong embrace along with a deep kiss of love, while feeling a wave of happiness as they kissed under the light of the full moon.
Suddenly, they both noticed from the corner of their eye a presence. Separating themselves from the kiss, they discovered that the presence was Leo, who had been standing and watching the scene.
"Leo?" asked Korra, surprised to see her friend.
"I'm sorry I witnessed an intimate moment, but I couldn't resist." said Leo as he approached them. "Besides... I wanted to be the first one to congratulate you."
Both women, now engaged, smiled at each other. Happy that the decision they had made. After that, the three of them went back to the party.
As soon as they returned, they told everyone about the engagement between the Avatar and the engineer. Everyone burst into cheers, applause, and congratulations. As much as most people would like to be talking about wedding preparations, confession details and so on, that wasn't the night of Korra and Asami (or as Mikey likes to call it; Korrasami), but the night of everyone who helped end the war against Shredder by winning it. So, for the rest of the night, they made sure they had fun, both humans and mutants.
The next day, around noon (because the party lasted almost all night), both the Shellraiser and the Party Wagon were near the Republic City prison. Near the vehicles there were several round platforms. Team Avatar, the turtles, the Mutanimals, Splinter, Tenzin, the young airbenders, Karai, April and Casey were all on one side waiting.
Later, they all saw the prison gates open. The first to leave was Lin, who was accompanying his men in escorting the prisoners.
As it turned out, after they were all defeated, they were put in special mutant handcuffs that managed to hold them completely, although Hakan had to be put under more restrictions due to his monstrous strength.
Then they locked them up in the prison waiting to be escorted to a more suitable place for them.
The first to pass through were the raptoloids, who were being accompanied by Naga to make sure they didn't do anything wrong. In an orderly and calm manner, the polar bear dog led them to one of the platforms that was large enough to hold all four. When Donnie pressed a button on the platform, a black cylinder-shaped shield covered them completely.
The next was Lemearth, formerly known as Luon, who had his hands restrained so that he couldn't use earthbending while his wings were tightly tied to prevent him from flying. His mouth was covered by a metal gag so that he couldn't use his scream and his tail was tied to his body.
Behind him followed Hakan, although now he was the mutant Haktauro. He was strongly chained so that he didn't make any movement, except for his legs to walk.
Both mutants, who were once humans of that world, climbed on a pad and cast a withering glance at the Avatar and the turtle dressed in blue before the black shield covered them.
Then came the best known.
The first was Rahzar, who had a metal gag over his jaw. His claws were wrapped in layers of metal (courtesy of the metalbenders) and he was well chained to prevent any movement.
Behind him were some policemen carrying Fishface because he no longer had his metal legs. He was handcuffed and with a gag that prevented him from opening his mouth or using his poisonous fangs. Fishface was thrown onto the same platform where Rahzar stood and the black shield was activated, locking them both up.
The next was Bebop, who was only handcuffed and who followed him was his faithful companion Rocksteady, who, like Haktauro, was strongly chained to contain his strength. Both evil mutants were put on a platform before the black shield was activated and they were locked up.
Then Baxter Stockman arrived. He was walking because his wings were tied to prevent him from flying. His tweezers, tied together with his hand, were under a metal casing and his mouth was covered with a jaw to prevent him from using his acid slime.
Behind him was Tiger Claw, who had his hands handcuffed and a gag over his mouth. Both he and the mutant fly were brought to the same platform before the black shield covered them.
Finally, escorted by more police officers than any other, wearing a straitjacket and being taken away tied up in a wheelbarrow, Shredder arrived. As he passed by the heroes, he looked at them and they looked back at him, but with contempt. Shredder was taken to the last platform and threw all of them, especially Korra, Asami (who held hands) and Leo, one last look before the black shield covered him completely, locking him inside.
"Is that all of them?" asked Pete.
"Yes, that's all of them." said Leatherhead.
"Are you sure those things can hold them?" asked Mako.
"Of course. They were designed by the Kraang to contain powerful mutants. Even if they got rid of their restrictions, it would be hard for them to get out of those cells." explained Rockwell.
"What will become of them?" asked Korra.
"Shredder is a very dangerous and wanted criminal. I'm sure the police will be very happy to see all of them locked up and turned in front of the door." said Karai.
"I'll be happy that someone like him is locked up for the rest of his life." said Asami.
"You and everyone." said Slash.
"Not that I care, but what about Luon and Hakan?" asked Bolin, mentioning the former members of Kuvira Forever who were mutated.
"We have enough retro-mutagenic for the two of them. As soon as we find them back in their previous state, we'll return them to you for you to take care of." Donnie said.
"Believe me. I'll make sure they get what they deserve." said Lin.
"What about the raptoloids?" Korra asked.
"For now, we'll keep them locked up until we find somewhere they can live without bothering anyone." said April.
"Hey, what if…?" started Mikey.
"No. We're not keeping you as a pet." said Raph.
"Jo. I was liking the idea of fighting next to a dinosaur." said Casey complaining.
"But what about the Kraang? Or the other members of the Foot? What if they come back?" Jinora asked with concern.
"Well, they'll have to come through us first." said Raph.
"You mean they'll have to go through us." said Ikki, pointing to herself with her thumb.
"Yes, we have faced Shredder and we have won. We can handle whatever they throw at us." said Meelo.
"It's possible, but if you ever need help, you can count on us." said Splinter.
"That's a promise." said Leo, bringing smiles to the Republic City group.
Lin walked over to Rockwell and Pete.
"You know? I have to admit you're a very peculiar group." Lin said.
"Thanks, chief." said Pete.
"If you ever need a hand, you can contact us, the Mighty Mutanimals." said Rockwell.
"I'll keep that in mind." said Lin, shaking hands with the mutant monkey.
"I'm going to miss you, Leatherhead." said Ikki hugging the mutant crocodile.
"Me too, Ikki friend." said Leatherhead patting her back gently.
"I gotta hand it to you, kid. You got a lot of guts." Slash told Meelo as he smiled with his arms crossed.
"Thank you." said Meelo.
"In fact, you could be a member of my team." Slash said.
"Really? That would be amazing! Meelo, the Mighty Mutanimal!" exclaimed Meelo posing heroically.
Slash laughed lightly as he patted the young airbender's head. "Hehe. Easy, boy. It's still too early, but if we need the help of an airbender, you'll be the first one we call." said Slash, raising his fist.
Meelo smiled back at him and clenched his fist.
"It's a shame you have to leave." Jinora told Karai.
"Come on, don't be discouraged. Now that we know the way there and back, we'll probably see each other soon." said Karai.
Jinora smiled a little before hugging Karai, who was a little surprised at first before smiling and hugging back.
"I'll look forward to it." Jinora said, breaking away from the hug.
"Hey... I don't know if it's too much trouble... but... could you teach me some ninjitsu?" Ikki asked April.
"Well, first I'd have to get permission from your father and master Splinter, but I'm sure they'd let me teach you the basics. In return, you'll have to take me to meet these Kyoshi warriors." said April.
"It's a deal." Ikki said before the two embraced.
"What do you say we play a game of field hockey when you get back?" asked Meelo.
"I couldn't agree more. I'm even thinking about including field hockey as a sport in this world." said Casey.
"It would be great. Then I can make you bite the dust." said Meelo with a smile.
"I'll be the one to make you bite the dust." Casey said with another smile before the two boys shook hands.
"Thanks for the plans, Donnie. They will be very helpful to us in the future." Asami said, thanking the science turtle.
"You're welcome. This world may not be ready for such advanced things, but it's okay to give a little push. And good luck with you and Korra." Donnie said.
"Thank you and hey, maybe you could bring a certain person as a date to the wedding." said Asami winking a smile, which made the turtle blush.
"Asami." Donnie said in embarrassment.
Asami laughed slightly at the turtle's embarrassment before hugging him.
"Seriously. Thank you for everything." said Asami.
Donnie smiled before returning the hug.
"I will definitely bring pizza to the wedding." said Mikey.
"Great. I'm sure everyone will love it." said Bolin before he approached Mikey's ear. "Hey, I've been thinking about something." started Bolin before whispering something that made the turtle's big, jagged smile.
"Dude. That's a great idea." said Mikey.
"It was something I learned while we were in your lair. Do you think they'll like it?" asked Bolin.
"Are you kidding? They're going to love it! Count me in." said Mikey.
"Booyakasha!" the two shouted in unison as they high-fived each other.
"You know, I'm going to talk to the pro-bending judges to see if mutants can participate. After all this, you deserve it." Mako said.
"Perfect. Then we can beat the crap out of you." said Raph.
"For the record, we won't make it easy for you." said Mako.
"Neither will we." said Raph before the two shook hands.
"Thank you for everything, master Splinter. I hope we can meet again," Tenzin said, bowing in respect.
"Likewise, master Tenzin. I'm sure we can learn a lot from each other." said Splinter bowing.
"Leo... I..." began Korra in front of the lead turtle.
"You don't have to say anything. I know." said Leo.
Korra smiled before giving him a big hug that he came back.
"Thank you, Leo... for being a great friend." said Korra.
"That's what we're here for, right?" Leo asked.
"So... will we see each other again?" asked Korra.
"You bet. Besides, we wouldn't miss your wedding for anything in the world." said Leo.
"Let's go, guys. It's time to get going." said Raph from the Shellraiser's door.
Everyone got into their respective vehicles and later began to drive away, with the Party Wagon following the Shellraiser. The pads that served as a cell for the prisoners were floating while they were hooked up to the Party Wagon, making it easier to transport them. When the vehicles moved far enough away, a flash of light covered them both before they disappeared, leaving only a trail of burning tire tracks, signaling that they had returned to their world.
Those left behind looked in the direction they were going, with Korra and Asami holding hands. They didn't care about the fact that they were from different worlds, or how long it would be before they saw each other again or even had another adventure together. In the short time they had been together, they had formed a friendship so strong and resilient that nothing could break it. A friendship that made them not only friends or a team, but a big family.
AN: And that's it! Here the adventure ends, so it's time to... WAIT! It's not over yet! There is still one important event that will act as an epilogue for this story. What event is that? Surely there will be some who know, but for those who don't know, wait for the next chapter.
