A/N: Thanks for the comments.
Bella: I'm not sure Kara is the one most in need of help, especially by the end of this chapter. But plenty more craziness to come.
"Ready to go?" Maggie asked when she saw Kara waiting by her car.
"Always." Kara smiled. "I could really do with taking a bad guy down."
"Not enough bank robberies last night?" Maggie guessed as she looked for her keys.
"No, it's not that. I couldn't figure out how to use my conflict management training."
"How do you mean?"
"I thought I could use what I learned to make the therapy sessions less like a war zone."
"You were going to practice what you learned in conflict management on Alex?" Maggie asked finally finding her keys and unlocking the door.
"And Landon." Kara added. "But it is a lost cause."
"Because Alex is insanely paranoid?" Maggie asked getting in.
"No. There is just no technique that will work. I mean you have, accommodation, compromise, avoidance, competition and collaboration. But Alex will never accommodate Landon's views. She definitely won't compromise, she's does everything she can to avoid therapy already, she loves competition to such an extent that she will be the only winner and already views therapy as a sparring match and she will never collaborate with Landon. So there is no way to put any of it into practice, so it was a complete waste of time."
"I am pretty sure the point of the seminar was not to solve the issues between Alex and Landon." Maggie said. "I think it was more designed for office squabbles."
"Which is why I need more professional training, like the negotiator course. Has your Captain said anything?"
"Yes." Maggie said, feeling bad when she saw the excited and hopeful expression in Kara's eyes.
"And?"
"He doesn't think it is a good idea." Maggie said. "He wants to use Supergirl more tactically."
"Did you explain why it was a good idea?"
"Why would I do that?"
"Because it was your idea." Kara said as Maggie realised she had left something on her desk.
"Damn it." Maggie muttered. "I need to pick up a file. Stay here."
As Maggie headed back into the precinct Kara sat impatiently in the car. But as she waited she saw Maggie's Captain. Not wanting to waste the opportunity she jumped out of the car and walked towards him.
"Captain can I have a word?" Kara asked.
"Danvers. Why are you in the car park?"
"I'm waiting for Maggie."
"Is she late?"
"No. She forgot something in her desk." Kara said. "She'll be back soon."
"Why aren't you with her?" He asked.
"She told me to wait."
"Out here?" He asked surprised.
"You said I'm not allowed in the precinct." Kara said.
"I did?" He asked.
"To maintain the integrity of ongoing investigations."
"Sure, that sounds like me." He said, clearly doubtful. "What can I do for you?"
"I heard you said no to Supergirl's negotiator training."
"Supergirl doesn't work for me." He said. "Was that your idea?"
"No. Maggie's."
"You are telling me Sawyer wants Supergirl to have negotiator training?" He asked.
"Yes." Kara said enthusiastically.
"Why?" He asked.
"So she doesn't always use her fists. So she causes less collateral damage. To have a better understanding of the police."
"Sawyer said all of that?"
"Yes."
"To Supergirl?" He asked frowning.
"Yes, she's always giving Supergirl constructive criticism."
"She is?" The Captain asked.
"Absolutely."
"And you've heard her do this?"
"Regularly." Kara said.
"What's going on?" Maggie asked practically sprinting over to the pair when she saw them in the car park.
"I was just talking to the Captain about Supergirl." Kara said.
"Right, well we should go." Maggie said.
"Sawyer." The Captain called.
"Yes Sir?"
"Come see me after shift."
"Yes Sir." Maggie said sensing long day ahead.

"What were you talking about?" Maggie asked Kara.
"Negotiator training for Supergirl."
"What about it?" Maggie asked.
"We didn't get far. He asked me if it was my idea. Don't worry, I gave you full credit." Kara said causing Maggie to swerve. "Why does Alex let you drive her around when your driving is so much worse than mine?" She asked.
"My driving is fine." Maggie said. "Why are you pushing negotiator training so hard."
"Because you are right. Sometimes there is a better way than fist first."
"There are other ways to learn." Maggie said.
"I guess you're right. Well if I can't get formal training I will just teach myself." Kara said.
"Let me guess you will watch the Negotiator?" Maggie asked.
"No. Well okay, yes. It is a good film. But I meant I will read some books."
"Okay. Sounds like a plan." Maggie said, thinking the idea seemed harmless enough.

"Sawyer. Danvers still alive?" The Captain asked that evening as Maggie entered his office.
"Yes Sir."
"Do you know why I agreed to the ride along?"
"I was assuming I had upset you." Maggie replied honestly.
"I meant the idea of the ride along." The Captain said not responding to Maggie's guess. "In this city, in this country, there is a distrust of the police. Some of that is justified. Some isn't. And I pride myself that this squad is clean, honest and respects all citizens. But the people of this city they don't see it. And without that trust we can't do our jobs. The people out there, they love Supergirl. Even after she went insane and threw Cat Grant off a building. Maybe that's why they love her. But the point is they love her and hate us." He explained. "The ride along gave us a chance to tell our side, show that we are good cops, good people. And it is working. It is finally getting us good publicity. We might be turning a corner. But then I hear from a god damn reporter that your hobby is criticising Supergirl. The one person that unites this city. Can you imagine what will happen if Danvers publishes that you that?" Not giving her a chance to answer he went on. "We will be hated more than we are already. But to do our job we need trust and respect. So you see the problem?"
"Captain-" Maggie started, but ignoring her he went on.
"Part of me thinks it would be best to make sure you never interact with Supergirl again, but seeing you are engaged to her bestie, that is impossible. So I am going to do the opposite."
"Opposite?" Maggie asked getting a sinking feeling.
"Seeing you think Supergirl needs negotiator training -"
"I never said that-" Maggie tried to argue, but the Captain ignored her.
"I am going to put the request forward to the chief. And you are going to go on the same course and during that course you are going to be nothing but supportive to Supergirl. And Sawyer when I talk through the plan with the chief I will give you full credit, so any screwup, any backfiring, is going to end up on your lap. Do I make myself clear?"

"Does the DEO have a hidden stash of Kryptonite?" Maggie asked Alex that evening.
"No. Why?"
"I need some."
"Why?"
"So I can kill your sister."
"What's happened?" Alex asked frowning. "She said the ride along thing went really well."
"It did. That's not the issue. The issue is she talked to my Captain."
"What did she say?" Alex asked.
"She told him Supergirl getting negotiator training was all my idea. And then she told him I constantly criticise Supergirl. And now he thinks Kara is going to publish an article saying that, and make the police public enemy number one."
"Not entirely following and I don't want to take sides, but you do constantly criticise Supergirl." Alex said.
"So you think she is doing this out of revenge?" Maggie asked.
"Doing what? And no. It's Kara, she doesn't do revenge. Well not in a cold calculating way." Alex said. "I'm still not seeing what Kara has done wrong." She added only to immediately regret it when Maggie glared at her.
"Thanks to your sister the Captain is now going to blame me for every bad piece of PR." Maggie said. "And I have been ordered to not criticise Supergirl. And I now have to go on a training course with Supergirl."
"The negotiator training?" Alex asked.
"Yes."
"Kara is going to be stoked." Alex said, again regretting speaking.
"Yes she is. She is the real winner out of this. Like she has been planning it from the start." Maggie went on.
"You think Kara set all thus up?" Alex asked.
"Yes."
"I think you are being a little paranoid." Alex said.
