Lacey had spent the rest of the day catching up on sleep, so when she got up the next morning she was raring to go visit Dean again. She set herself up on the sofa and concentrated on Dean. This time she didn't have to look far for him, when she opened her eyes she was sitting in the back seat of the impala.
"Hey." She said softy.
"Jeez!" Dean jumped, glancing in the rear view mirror at her.
"What?" Sam looked up from the book in his lap.
"Just Lacey, in the back seat." Dean told him. "I thought you said you would be back soon?" Dean asked her, accusingly.
"Well that was yesterday, and here I am." Lacey said, frowning at him.
"Lacey, that was almost two months ago." Dean told her. Lacey's eyes widened in shock.
"What? Okay, well, like we talked about before, time doesn't seem to be the same here as it is for me there… I don't know how it works." She shrugged, her mind swimming. They continued down the road in silence for a few minutes until a woman ran out into the road in front of them.
"Holy…" Dean slammed on the brakes. "That her?" He asked as the woman approached the car.
"Dean, I don't think she knows she's dead." Sam said.
"What's going on?" Lacey asked.
"Two ghosts haunting this stretch of highway, same night every year." Dean explained quickly as the woman began to bang on the window.
"Please! Open up! Please!" Sam rolled down the window.
"All right, all right. Calm down, calm down. Tell us what happened." Dean opened the door and got out, Lacey was about to follow suit when she heard Sam say softly;
"Don't know if you're still there Lacey, but, he missed you, a lot." Before he got out of the car. Lacey blinked to herself before opening the back door and getting out, shutting it quickly.
"I swerved and we crashed. And when I came to, the car was wrecked and my husband was missing. I went looking for him, but that's when the man from the road, he started chasing me." The woman explained.
"Did he look like he lost a fight with a lawn mower?" Dean asked.
"How did you know that?" The woman stared at him.
"Lucky guess."
"Ma'am, what's your name?" Sam asked.
"Molly. Molly Mcnamara." Sam and Dean shared a look.
"I think maybe you should come with us. We'll take you back into town." Sam suggested.
"I can't. I have to find David. He might have gone back to the car."
"We should get you somewhere safe first. Then Dean and I will come back. We'll look for your husband." Sam tried to persuade her.
"No. I'm not leaving here without him. Would you just take me back to my car please?" Moll asked.
"Of course. Come on." They got back in the car and drove a short way down the road before Molly instructed them to pull over.
"It's right over there." Molly lead them off the road and into the woods before stopping dead in her tracks. "I don't understand. I'm sure this is where it was. We hit that tree right there. This doesn't make any sense." She began to walk around the tree, examining it.
"Dean, we got to get out of here. Greeley could show up at any second." Sam said, keeping his voice low.
"What are you gonna tell her?"
"The truth?"
"She's gonna take off running in the other direction." Molly walked back over to them.
"I know it sounds crazy, but I crashed into that tree. I don't know who could've taken it. Please. You have to believe me." She looked desperately between the three of them. Lacey noticed her eyes falling on her and balked a little.
"It's okay." She said, patting Molly's arm. Molly gave her a grateful look, confirming Lacey's suspicions that she could indeed see her.
"Molly, listen, we do believe you. But that's why we want to get you out of here." Sam told her, unaware of the exchange.
"What about David? Something must have happened. I have to get to the cops."
"Cops, that's a great idea. We'll take you down to the station ourselves. So just come with us. It's the best way we can help your husband."
"Okay." Molly reluctantly agreed. They got back in the car, Molly in the back next to Lacey.
"We're supposed to be in Lake Tahoe." Molly said, quietly.
"You and David?"
"It's our five year anniversary."
"A hell of an anniversary."
"Right before, we were having the dumbest fight. It was the only time we ever really argued… when we were stuck in the car."
"Yeah. I know how that goes." Sam laughed. Dean gave a him a look.
"You know the last thing I said to him? I called him a jerk. Oh, god. What if that's the last thing I said to him?" Molly agonised.
"Molly, we're gonna figure out what happened to your husband. I promise." Sam told her, reassuringly. Suddenly the radio leapt into life, blaring out House of the rising sun.
"Did you?" Dean asked.
"No." He looked in the rear view mirror and Lacey shook her head.
"I was afraid you'd say that."
"This song…" Molly began.
"What?"
"It was playing when we crashed." The radio began to crackle and a creepy voice came over the airwaves.
"She's mine. She's mine. She's mine."
"What is that?" Molly asked, startled. Suddenly Greely appeared in the road ahead.
"Hold on." Dean put his foot down.
"What are you doing?" Lacey put a hand on Molly's shoulder.
"It's okay, trust us." She told her as Dean drove the car straight through Greeley.
"What the… what the hell just happened?"
"Don't worry, Molly. Everything's gonna be all right." As soon as Sam said that the car shuddered to a halt.
"Spoke a little too soon, Sammy." Dean tried to start the car but the engine wouldn't turn over. "I don't think he's gonna let her leave."

The four of them got out of the car.
"This can't be happening." Molly looked around, eyes wild.
"Well, trust me, it's happening." Dean told her as he opened up the trunk and started sorting through the weapons. As soon as Molly saw the arsenal in the trunk she began to back away.
"Well… okay. Thanks for helping, but I think I got it covered from here."
"Wait, Molly! Molly wait a minute!" Sam tried to stop her.
"Just leave me alone."
"No, no, no. Please. You have to listen to me."
"Just stay away." Molly warned him, turning to leave.
"It wasn't a coincidence that we found you, all right?" Molly turned back to him.
"What are you talking about?"
"We weren't just cruising for chicks when we ran into you, sister. We were already out here. Hunting." Dean told her.
"Hunting for what?"
"Ghosts." Dean told her, simply.
"Don't sugar coat it for her." Sam sighed, sounding exasperated, as Molly stared at them.
"You're nuts."
"Really? About as nuts as a vanishing guy with his guts spilling out. You know what you saw." Dean reasoned.
"We think his name is Jonah Greeley. He was a local farmer that died 15 years ago on this highway."
"Just…. Stop."
"One night a year on the anniversary of his death, he haunts this road. That's why we're here, Molly. To try and stop him."
"Now, I suppose this ghost made my car disappear too." Molly guessed, looking sceptical.
"Crazier things have happened, huh?"
"You know what, I'm all filled up on crazy. I'm gonna get the cops myself."
"I don't mean to be harsh, but I don't think you're gonna get too far." Dean warned her.
"What is that supposed to mean?"
"Means that Plan A was trying to get you out of here. Obviously that didn't go over too well with Farmer Roadkill."
"Molly, we're telling the truth. Greeley's not gonna let you leave this highway."
"You're serious about this, aren't you?" Molly stared at them open mouthed.
"Deadly."
"Every year Greeley finds someone to punish for what happened to him. Tonight that person is you."
"Why me? I didn't do anything." Molly protested.
"Doesn't matter. Some spirits only see what they want." Sam explained.
"So, you're saying this Greeley, he took my husband? Oh god." She started to panic.
"Molly, look, we're gonna help, all right? But first you gotta help us."
"Help you? How?"

Molly lead them back to the cabin where she'd seen Greeley.
"This is it. This is where I saw him." Lacey shivered as she stepped inside the cabin. This made Rufus' cabin look like a palace in comparison. The place was dirty, animal skins and weaponry hung from the walls.
"Must have been his hunting cabin." Dean noted, looking around. "Huh. Seemed like a real sweet guy." He said as he spotted the tools and bloodstains on one of the counters.
"No markers or headstones outside." Sam told them.
"You're looking for Greeley's grave?" Molly asked.
"Yeah."
"Why?"
"So we can dig up the corpse and salt and burn it." Dean told her simply.
"Oh. Sure, naturally." Molly stared at him like he'd lost his mind.
"You're really just going for it with the truth today." Lacey gave Dean a lopsided smile.
"Yeah, well, no point in beating about the bush." Dean shrugged.
"It's a way to get rid of a spirit." Sam filled Molly in.
"And that'll save David?"
"Well, this is what'll help both of you, provided there's a corpse to be found."
"So how do we find it?"
"I'm not sure. After Greeley died, his wife claimed the body. And that was the last anyone saw of her. So good guess she brought him back here. But they had a thousand acres. He could be buried anywhere on them."
"So this is really what you guys do? You're like Ghostbusters?" Molly marvelled.
"Yeah." Sam nodded.
"Minus the jumpsuits." Dean added. "This is a fascinating conversation and all, but this highway is only haunted once a year and we got til sun up to wrap this thing up. What do you say we move it along, okay? Great." The four of them left the cabin and continued their search outside.
"What are we looking for?" Molly asked.
"Greeley's house. Maybe he's buried there. Look for roads or paths or something. Stay close." Sam instructed.
"Yeah. Okay." They headed off through the woods. Suddenly they heard Molly shouting.
"David? David? David!" Lacey and Dean exchanged a look before heading in the direction of her shouts. They arrived just in time to see Greeley grab her. Dean raised his shotgun and fired at Greeley, who disappeared.
"Hey! Are you all right?" Sam asked as he caught up to them.
"What has that son of a bitch done with my husband?" Molly fumed.
"Just take it easy, all right? You're gonna see David again. You will."
"Hey!" Dean nodded at the woods in front of them where a path was snaking through the trees. "Follow the creepy brick road."
"Go ahead." Sam nodded. Dean lead the way followed by Lacey and Molly, Sam at the rear.
"That thing shoots rock salt?" Molly asked, nodding at Sam's shotgun.
"Yep."
"And plain salt keeps away spirits?"
"Simple remedies are always the best. In most cultures, salt's a symbol of purity, so it repels impure and unnatural things. Same reason you throw it over your shoulder." As they rounded the bend they came upon an incredibly creepy looking house.
"You know just once I'd like to round the corner and see a nice house." Dean muttered as they looked around before entering.
"Any headstones outside?" Sam asked.
"Yeah, right. Is it ever that easy?" Dean scoffed.
"I guess not."
"You two check upstairs. See if you can find any notes or records telling us where he's buried. Lacey and I'll check down here." As Sam and Molly disappeared upstairs they began to search the downstairs rooms.
"So, you missed me?" Lacey asked smirking at Dean.
"What? No… I mean.. yes, but…" Dean stumbled over his words. "What did Sam say?" Lacey laughed at his expression.
"Just that. It's cool, I mean, I'm here cos I miss you." Lacey shrugged. "I don't think we're going to find anything down here, wanna find Sam?" Lacey asked, heading for the stairs. Before she could get there, Dean stepped in front of her, closing the gap between them. He reached out a hand and tucked some loose strands of hair behind her ear before leaning down and kissing her.
"Guess I did miss you." Dean said, smirking as he pulled away.
"Well… You better keep missing me." Lacey said as they headed upstairs. When they reached the landing they could hear Sam saying;
"Well they weren't evil people, you know? A lot of them were good. Just… something happened to them. Something they couldn't control."
"Sammy's always getting a little J. Love Hewitt when it comes to things like this. Me, I don't like 'em. And I sure as hell ain't making apologies for 'em. There's nothing downstairs. You find anything?" Dean asked, hovering in the doorway.
"Uh, just about every piece of mail or receipt they ever had. Looked through a couple, but nothing about a grave so far." Sam said indicating the piles of paper he was sorting through. Dean nodded and began to look around the room, stopping in front of one of the walls.
"What?" Sam asked as Dean examined it.
"There's something behind here." He tossed his flashlight to Sam and began to move one of the cabinets aside. "Here." As he shifted the cabinet a small door became visible behind it. "It's locked from the inside." He reported. Dean stood up and kicked the door a few times until it gave way. The four of them crawled through the opening, Lacey grimaced as cobwebs clung to her clothes. "It smells like old lady in here." Dean noted as he helped Lacey to her feet. Lacey let out a gasp as the flashlight played over a body hanging from the ceiling by its neck. "And that would explain why. Well, now we know why nobody ever saw her again."
"She didn't want to live without him." Molly said, softly.
"Dean, give me a hand." Sam said, pulling one of the chairs over.
"Really?" Dean protested.
"What are you gonna do?" Molly asked.
"We can't leave her like this."
"Why not?"
"She deserves to be put to rest, Dean." Sam said as he got on the chair and began to cut through the rope. Dean sighed and reluctantly held the body still.
"Son of a…" Dean muttered, making a face.

They took the body out side and Sam and Dean began to dig a grave.
"So… If you manage to put Greeley to rest too… what happens to them?" Molly asked.
"Lady, that answer is way beyond out pay grade." Dean huffed as he shovelled more dirt.
"You hunt these things, but you don't know what happens to them?"
"Well, they never come back. That's all that matters." Dean shrugged.
"After they let go of whatever's keeping them here, they just go. I hope someplace better, but we don't know. No one does." Sam told her.
"What happens when you burn their bones?"
"Umm… well, my Dad used to say that was like death for ghosts, you know? But… the truth is we still don't know. Not for sure. Guess that's why we all hold on to life so hard. Even the dead. We're all just scared of the unknown."
"The only thing I'm scared of is losing David. I have to see him again. I have to." Lacey glanced over at Dean, before looking away, blinking the tears out of her eyes.

Once the grave was covered over they headed back into the house to look for more clues. Molly was looking through a photo album, Sam nodded to Dean and they headed to the other side of the room.
"I think we should tell her about her husband." Sam said, keeping his voice low.
"We can't."
"Dean, it's cruel, letting her pine for him like this. I don't like keeping her in the dark." Dean sighed.
"It's for her own good. Man, I know you feel guilty, all right? But let's just stick to the plan. Let's get her out of here. Then we'll tell her."
"Tell me what?" They turned around to find Molly standing behind them. "What aren't you telling me? It's about David. You know what happened." She accused them.
"Molly.."
"Sam, don't…" Dean interrupted.
"Don't what? Don't tell me because I'll mess up your hunt? You don't care about me or my husband."
"That's not true." Sam tried to reassure her.
"Really? Then whatever it is, tell me, please." There was a sudden noise of static and the radio on the other side of the room turned on, playing House of the Rising Sun.
"He's coming." Molly looked around, scared.
"Stay with her." Dean instructed Sam. Lacey followed him across the room to the radio, watching as Dean picked up the broken power cord. Lacey let out a gasp as the glass in the door beside them frosted over and the words 'She's Mine' appeared. There was a crashing noise and a scream in the other room, the two of them exchanged a look before running back in.
"He's got Molly!" Sam told them. The three of them climbed through the broken window and headed towards the woods after them, but they had disappeared from sight. They went back to the house, looking for more clues.
"This guy is persistent." Dean muttered.
"We gotta find Molly."
"We gotta find Greeley's bones. And uh, no pressure or anything, but we got less than two hours before sunrise." Sam began leafing through the photo album molly had been looking at.
"Hey."
"What you got?" Sam pointed at one of the photos.
"February 6th 1992." He read the caption aloud.
"That was like two weeks before the accident wasn't it?"
"Yeah. I mean, it looks like the hunting cabin, but… I swear there's a tree there right where they're standing." Sam shut the album with a snap. "I should've thought of it.
"What?"
"It's an old country custom, Dean. Planting a tree as a grave marker."
"You're like a walking encyclopaedia of weirdness." Dean told him.
"Yeah. I know." Sam grumbled as they headed for the door.

They made their way back top the cabin.
"Go get Molly." Sam told Dean as he headed for the tree and began to dig. Dean rushed inside, Lacey following him. They found Molly hanging from the ceiling, ropes binding her arms, Greeley standing over her.
"Hey!" Lacey shouted, running at Greeley and crashing into him. He began to glitch as she sent him flying across the room. As he hit the far wall he disappeared.
"Oh, thank god." Molly said as Dean began to untie her.
"Yeah, call me Dean." He smirked at her as he helped her down. Greeley reappeared behind him and as he turned to face him, slashed at him, leaving a deep cut on his cheek.
"This guy's really pissing me off." Dean growled as he straightened up. As soon as he did, Greeley sent him flying into the wall.
"That's enough!" Lacey stepped in front of him and grabbed him round the neck, trying to choke him. He began to glitch in and out, and Lacey let out a cry of pain as she faded in and out too.
"Hurry up, Sam!" Dean shouted. Lacey finally had to let go, falling backwards and landing on the wooden floor. Greeley towered over her. His expression suddenly changed from one of venom to one of panic.
"No, no!" He managed to cry out before going up in flames.

Dean helped Lacey to her feet. She was still shaking from the attack so he kept hold of her as they made their way back to the Impala.
"What now?" Lacey asked quietly as they followed Sam and Molly.
"Gotta tell her the truth now. Just hope she doesn't take it too badly." Dean replied. "What you did back there…thanks. I was worried he was going to take you out, for a minute."
"No worries, this is my astral form, remember? It saps my energy but he couldn't hurt the real me." Lacey told him.
"You should get back though, get your strength back." Dean told her.
"Yes, sir." Lacey smirked at him, before leaning up and kissing him, gently.
"I'll try and come back soon." She told him. She closed her eyes and seconds later she was gone.
"Miss you." Dean said softly. He shook his head, trying to clear it, before walking over to Sam and Molly.
