"Did you get any sleep last night?" Alex asked as she entered Kara's apartment and saw her sister hunched over her laptop.

"No. Too busy researching." Kara commented.

"I admire your dedication to removing Landon from the DEO, but you need to sleep." Alex said.

"Landon?" Kara asked confused. "This has nothing to do with Landon. Or does it? No. Not Landon. Probably. Should I reconsider? No. Not Landon."

"What isn't Landon?" Alex asked both confused and concerned.

"I was trolled. And not the weird troll with pink hair. Bad trolled."

"What?" Alex asked looking at Kara's laptop which showed all the comments that had been submitted against her latest CatCo article.

"It is best to ignore it. The only reason people do it, apart from they are idiots, is because they are trying to get a rise. Ignore them and they will go away." Alex said, frowning when she saw how personal some of the comments had gotten. "But if you want I can hunt them down."

"No. I had a better idea. I thought I would put my new knowledge to good use. Kind of. I mean I had to do more reading and I may have made a typo so I spent a little bit of time investigating the psychological reasons behind peoples buying habits rather than bullying habits. That opened up a whole new can of worms. But I digress. I eventually got back on the bully research train, I mean trolls are basically cowardly bullies right? I mean they hide in the shadows rather then face their victims. And the more I read, well I started to feel sorry for them."

"Of course you did." Alex said.

"You see most bullies and trolls start because they had some sort of traumatic incident and they don't know how to deal with it."

"You lost a planet but didn't become a bully or a troll." Alex pointed out.

"It could be low self esteem, they could be experiencing trolling and are deflecting." Kara went on, ignoring her sister's logic.

"Let me guess, they just need a hug?" Alex said.

"Well probably. But I'm not sure how they would react. I've seen Criminal Minds and the unsub never wants a hug. Not even I would hug those unsubs. But back to the troll, I figured out they may not have any friends, they may have been denied an education, they may have a difficult home life. All of which aren't insurmountable, so if I can figure out what drives them, maybe I can talk them round. I mean what if it is a cry for help? I mean the kid in the playground who punches the smart guy, chances are it is because they are bullied at home. It could be the same here. This person needs help."

"Yes they do. But there are far more deserving people out there." Alex said. "Kara, there are only two ways that this has a happy ending. One you ignore them and they will get bored and frustrated because they aren't the centre of attention. Two I deal with them. If you engage things will only get worse and it gives them what they want. Ultimately some people are just idiots. Don't waste your time on them. Instead let's go buy you a sticky bun for breakfast."

"Winn, I need you to track down an address." Alex said as she walked over to him at the DEO.

"Sure." Winn said. "Whose?"

"Don't know exactly, that's the first thing you need to figure out. But I can give you his, well I am assuming it is a he, I.P. address."

"Okay." Winn said as Alex passed him a table showing the discussion forum. "Is this Kara's page? Is she being trolled? Wow this guy needs to get a life. Wait, why do you need his address?"

"Why do you think?" Alex asked.

"That is what worries me." Winn said.

"Chances are if he is doing this to Kara, he is doing it to others. Some people might take his crap seriously, so someone needs to talk to him."

"Does Kara know you are looking for him?"

"No. She wants to help him. But bully's don't change. Once a bully always a bully. I mean you know that right?"

"Me?" Winn asked.

"Yeah, I mean you are a geek who plays with action figures, there is no way you weren't bullied at some point."

"Some would say I still am." Winn said quietly.

"You are still buying into that workplace bullying seminar?" Alex asked.

"Would you prefer to work for Cat?" Alex asked.

"No, that name still makes me break out in cold sweats. But you know that and using Cat as a threat against me is kind of re-enforcing the bullying image." Winn pointed out. As Alex glared at him he went on. "That just proves your point that bully's never change."

"Just give me the address." Alex said.

"You missed the staff meeting." Lena said as she entered Kara's apartment.

"Sorry, I got side tracked with this. It is CatCo business though."

"It is?" Lena asked, not bothering to hide her surprise.

"Yes, I'm figuring out who the unsub is."

"The what?" Lena asked.

"The unknown subject of the crime." Kara said.

"What crime? And don't you normally jump straight to Landon?"

"You think Landon is the unsub? Why did I dismiss that idea? Now I think about it he would know what to say to get a reaction. I mean I am assuming you think he is doing it to get at me rather than he is a troll. But then again maybe he fits the troll profile as well."

"You are talking about the comments your article got?" Lena guessed. "We can just have the comments removed and the user blocked."

"That feels wrong. And if it is their way of coping, what would happen if you cut off that coping mechanism?"

"Hopefully they would go into their hole and disappear." Lena said.

"Or we could help them. It could make a good article."

"It could, I guess. But I don't see them changing. If it was that easy to change Lex would not be the psychotic, homicidal, self-centred ba-"

"It's a troll, not Lex." Kara cut in. And once I figure out who they are and what drives them we could help."

"If you want to know who it is I am sure I can hack their system, or seeing it is a registered user with a CatCo magazine subscription we could just look up his, or her, details."

"Let me finish the profile and then we can see if I am right. If I am this would be proof that Landon can't ignore."

"Proof of what?"

"That I am a good shrink and don't need him."

"I am not sure those arguments go together." Lena cautioned.

"Maggie? What are you doing here?" Alex asked as she got out of her car outside a house and saw the Detective waiting.

"Winn called. He said there was a chance we would have to postpone the wedding for twenty five years to life. Something to do with you killing a troll."

"I'm not killing anyone. I am just here for a friendly chat. Chances are it is an emotionally stunted teen who just needs to be scared into behaving."

"I saw the comments, there is no way they are from a kid." Maggie said. "Didn't you get the details from Winn?"

"No, I left in hurry." Alex said. "Are you coming?"

"No. I'm just going to stay here and wait to act in case you do something stupid."

"I am just going to talk." Alex said walking up the driveway before knocking on the door.

"Mr Jenkins?" Alex asked as she flashed her FBI badge.

"Yes."

"Is your son home?"

"I don't have a son."

"Sorry that was unconscious gender bias." Alex said. "Is your daughter home?"

"I don't have a daughter."

"Are there any kids in this house?"

"No. What exactly is the problem?"

"Looks like my partner was right. You see I thought someone who was so emotionally stunted and went to such effort to look more intelligent than they were had to be kid as no adult would be that desperate. My partner meanwhile said that actually to be that emotionally stunted they would be an adult as a child hasn't lost the ability to know right from wrong and aren't that desperate to look clever. And here you are. An adult."

"Excuse me?" He asked looking nervous.

"I don't like bully's and trolls are a type of bully. Unlike actual bullies, trolls are too cowardly to own their actions. They hide in the shadows and act in the belief the they won't get caught. If you have issues go to a support group or, and it pains me to say this, therapy. In fact I can even recommend a therapist who would suit you perfectly. Or write abuse to yourself. You may think the internet is anonymous, but it isn't and we will crack down on bullying and hate." With that she turned and walked away. As she reached Maggie she said. "See we just talked."

"Hey Kara" Alex greeted as she and Maggie entered Kara's apartment, where her sister and Lena were looking at a laptop. Seeing how glum Kara was looking she asked. "What's happened?"

"My attempts to show them affection and understanding failed."

"He's ignoring you?"

"Not unless it is opposite day. He has stepped up his game." Kara said showing her the comments. "You were right I shouldn't have done anything."

"So you told Kara to ignore it and have them blocked because engaging would only make it worse?" Maggie asked.

"Yes." Alex confirmed.

"Yet you then confronted him in person and made it even worse." Maggie pointed out.

"What?" Kara asked.

"We just talked." Alex said.

"This isn't high school." Kara pointed out.

"Well yes, if this were high school I would have broken his nose." Alex pointed out as there was a knock on the door.

"Hi Winn." Kara greeted.

"How much do you love me?" Winn asked walking into the apartment. "Actually too soon. Don't answer that. Instead answer this. What do trolls hate?" Winn asked.

"Themselves." Kara said.

"Anyone who seems more successful, so everyone." Lena suggested.

"Right everyone. So, while you were off trying to be nice," he said looking at Kara, "and you were off being, well you," he added looking at Alex, "I came up with a solution using my brain."

"You cut off his internet?" Maggie guessed.

"That's actually not a bad idea, but no." Winn said. "I've written some software."

"To remove the troll?" Lena asked. "We already have software to do that."

"No, even better. Kara kind of inspired this idea."

"What is it?" Kara asked.

"Any time it detects trolling it will convert the words used by the troll into words of love and support."

"I don't support trolls, but aren't you starting to crack down on free speech?" Maggie asked.

"Already thought of that." Winn said. "Everyone signs up to the TOS which basically say you won't be a tool. So CatCo can do what they want if you breach it. But the new loved filled message will also have a link that will redirect to a different website where the original message is posted. So anyone who wants to see what was written can."

"This is insane and for once Landon isn't even connected." Maggie muttered.

"Unless he is." Lena whispered to the Detective.

"Don't start." Maggie warned.

"Kara." J'onn said joining her on the DEO balcony.

"J'onn." Kara replied without turning.

"You okay?" He asked.

"I thought it would be easier."

"What?"

"Helping people. First I thought I needed my powers and when I became Supergirl I could help everyone. Then I figured out some problems are too big, even for Supergirl. Then I hoped that by writing for CatCo I could do some good and reach people I couldn't as Supergirl."

"You rescued all those people taken to Slavers' Moon." J'onn reminded her.

"I know. But there are so many people out there who I don't help. When I started to read up on psychology I thought I could put that into practice and use it to help people. But the first chance I really got to do that ended in failure. All I did was make it worse. But I refuse to accept that anyone is beyond help."

"That's what makes you you." J'onn said. "But not everyone can be helped straight away. But don't give up."

"What about you?" Kara asked.

"What about me?"

"You have been stalking the corridors with purpose, grumpy purpose some would say."

"You and your sister are causing me a lot of paperwork."

"I haven't crashed into a building for like a week."

"Eight days in fact." J'onn said.

"So why the paperwork?" Kara asked.

"Your therapy sessions. Either you go and then complain, go and then Landon complains or not go and Landon complains."

"Sounds like Landon does more complaining than us." Kara pointed out.

"I sometimes wonder if it is worth it." J'onn confessed.

"You could just make it not compulsory."

"That is above my pay grade." J'onn pointed out.

"You could go as us."

"That would be unethical and not something I want to do again." J'onn argued.

"So that's a no?" Kara asked.

"That's a no. Although, I sometimes wonder why I put up with it." J'onn confessed.

"I know that one, that was covered in chapter 12. Maybe you still feel guilty about your past and this is your way of punishing yourself." Kara said.

"There are times I find it deeply frustrating I can't read your mind." J'onn commented. "But there are other times that I am profoundly grateful."

"I'm serious." Kara said. "I recognise the signs, because I do it to."

"And what did all your reading tell you?" J'onn asked.

"That the way to true emotional strength is not self punishment." Kara said. "Deep inside all of us is an inner child that needs to be nurtured in a loving and kind manner, much like you would treat a loved one. But that inner child is the one person we never fully nurture. Instead we punish them. So the only way we can ever become truly happy is to start rewarding that inner child the same way we would a child."

"As sound advice as that is. How is your nurturing going?"

"As well as yours. But what gets me is that Eliza saw it all along. When got to Earth she loved all of me, even the broken part. She didn't need books, she just did it."

"Helping others is a lot easier than helping yourself." J'onn said. "So how about you help me, by toning it down a little with Landon."

"I haven't done anything. All I did was politely challenge. He's the one who wants a discussion."

"I will remind him to be careful of what he wishes for." J'onn said. "In the mean time, why don't you ignore your toad and focus on your inner, or outer, child."

"My toad? Oh, you mean my troll."

"Yes that." J'onn agreed. "My point is, as sound as your advice was there is something more important and that is helping yourself. Until you have helped yourself you can't help others."

"Okay." Kara said.

"Good." J'onn smiled before walking away.

"J'onn." Kara called.

"Yes." J'onn replied.

"Seeing you are really good at this and psychic, can't Alex and I just talk to you rather than Landon?"

"It doesn't work like that." J'onn said walking away, whilst mentally conceding it would cause a lot less pain for him.
