Kol Mikaelson and the Unexpected
Chapter 39

Melissa Wattcan POV:
The park was so much fun! There were other kids – big and little – playing too, while their parents kept an eye on them. Only one dad was pushing their boy on the swings. More mommies and daddies should play; maybe then they'll be less "stressed." That's just a fancy way of saying annoyed. Playing makes everyone happy, problem solved!
Anyway, I'm getting off-track. There was a dome climber, see-saw, monkey bars, and swings. A rainbow of color spread across the grass for us to explore. Reds, blues, greens, purples, and yellows! As soon as we get home, I wanna go to another park and play. I want both Mommy and Uncle Kol to come! We can do all kinds of games and look at the doggies that show up! Just the thought of it made me grin. I can't wait!
It sucked that we got on ANOTHER flight! Ugh. I'm never, ever, never, EVER getting on a plane again for as long as I live. Nope. I am all plane-d out.
I do like Canada, though! It's so different than Paris. The part we're in has such a funny name. Yukon. It sounds like Yoo-Kaan.
"Yukon, Yukon, Yukon," My eyes soaked in the new view while Klausy got me out of the car, and I giggled each time I repeated the word. My hair started whipping around like crazy in its ponytail because of all the wind. "Yuuuukoooon."
"Northern Lights Resort and Spa!" Mr. Kael announces, sweeping arms out in a grand gesture. "A spa sound brilliant right about now, don't you think?"
"I've never been to a spa," Klausy tightens his hold and angles me away from him.
I'm so busy looking around that I didn't bother asking why. They'll get over their little fight soon. Instead of a big city – like Paris — out here was the complete opposite! There was wilderness as for as the eye could see. It almost felt like camping! Past the forest of Christmas trees and rolling hills were mountains, stretching up toward the sky. I've never seen so many Christmas trees in the wild before. It was beautiful.
Then my eyes found the little building Mr. Kael was leading us to, and everything got even better!
"It's a log cabin!" I copied Mr. Kael's motion and flung my arms out, nearly hitting Klausy in the face. "Oops."
It looks like they chopped down trees, took off the leaves, and stacked them together. Cute!
"It's all for us," Mr. Kael tossed a playful smile my way. "The other building had all the fun stuff. Not just the spa, there's a gym and Jacuzzi as well!"
"A Jacuzzi!" My eyes shifted eagerly to my best friend to explain. I don't think he's ever been in one of those before. Not that he remembers, anyway. "That's a small pool, but super warm! Let's check it out."
"We have to look for the Crystal," Klausy frowned. "Unless you want to wait?"
I gasped in outrage, "I don't wanna wait! I wanna go home!"
"Exactly. So, no Jacuzzi," He gave a satisfied nod.
The warm burst of air felt great on my face. It was so cozy inside our cabin. Every other hotel we've stayed in has been over the top fancy, which is awesome, but I like this. When Klausy set me on my feet, the first thing I did was run to the fireplace with a squeal.
"Can we can light a fire and have smores?" I begged, clasping my hands together to make it look perfect. My lips pulled into a little pout. "Pleeease! I won't make a mess!"
Mr. Kael was a blur of movement. When he stopped, all our luggage was inside with the door closed.
He shook his head. My heart dropped. I was pouting for real now. "We don't have the ingredients for that, little one."
"You can get them!" Klausy suggested.
I brightened. "Yes! Please? Pleeeease?"
Mr. Kael let out a sigh, "I suppose I can compel someone to run to the shop."
"No, I want you to get it," Klausy argued. "You don't have to use compulsion for everything."
They went back and forth on this for a while. Mr. Kael didn't want to leave us alone; Klausy was stubborn for no reason. I wandered off and lost interest in their arguments until I heard:
"FINE!" Mr. Kael burst out. I popped back around the corner to stare, hopefully. "I'll go myself. Damn you, Nik. Your bloody high maintenance sometimes, do you know that?"
Klausy flashed a smug grin, "Thanks, Kael."
"Do not leave," He pointed sternly at us both; his nail polish shone prettily when the light hit it. "I mean it."
Klausy wiggled his fingers in a wave goodbye. "We won't." As soon as Mr. Kael was gone, Klausy's smile dropped. I didn't like it one bit. He cocked his head, listening to something, before continuing with, "Okay, Lissa. This is going to sound odd, but you have to trust me."
I squinted at him up and down suspiciously. "Why?"
"Do you trust me?" He replied.
"You're being weird."
"Lissa! This is important."
"Yes," I stomped my feet to show how unhappy I was. "I trust you! Stop giving me the you're-in-trouble face. I didn't do anything!"
Klausy's nose and forehead scrunched up in confusion, "What are you talking about? You're not in trouble." My body relaxed. Oh, good. But why is he acting weird, then? "I wanted to say we have to leave before Kael gets back."
I took several steps away from him. "No! I'm not leaving, Mr. Kael!" Klausy opened his mouth, and I cut him off. "That's not nice! He'll get worried, and what about my smores?"
We had a long staring contest. I wasn't backing down.
Klausy blinked! I win! Ha-ha!
"Mr. Kael will be sad when we leave," Klausy's voice was sweet. His eyes begged me to listen. "We'll leave a note, to say goodbye, and then go home. I don't want him to have to watch us leave, do you?"
My stomach knotted. Klausy's words made me think of watching Mommy when I left her. Her eyes were teary, and I didn't want to go. I remembered staring until I couldn't see her or the house anymore. It felt awful.
"No," My eyes fell to the floor. "That would be mean."
"Let's get our bags, and we'll go quickly."
Smores were no longer important. I was too sad to eat them. Just when I cheered up, something else happened to remind me why I was upset. I don't want any more changes! I want to go home! People are scary, and liars, and… and too much is going on! People come and go all the time! We're always exploring! I don't know how to put everything I'm feeling into words. All I know is, I wanna be HOME!
"Anything you want to say to Kael?" Klausy asks as he scribbles on a scrap of paper. He must have ripped it from our notebook. I almost protested; we need all those pages to write on for Uncle Kol.
I put my coat and gloves back on, as slowly as possible, "I'll miss him."
"Me too," Klausy agreed. He put the last finishing touch on the note. "You ready? We'll just take the bookbags."
"What about my clothes?" I shuffled toward my bookbag, feet dragging the ground.
"We'll get more clothes when we get home."
Home. That one word picked my feet off the ground. All of this will be over soon. We're going home.
Klausy moved at super-speed around the room before lifting me into his arms. Then we were off. His arms wrapped tightly around me. The chill cut through my coat, so I shifted my face into Klausy's neck with chattering teeth.
"C-cold," I stuttered.
"We'll stop soon," my best friend reassured. "I won't make us run the whole way."
We moved so fast I stuck to Klausy like glue. I couldn't pull back to look even if I wanted to. A part of me hated that I missed looking at the Christmas Tree Forest. If we weren't in a hurry, we could've stopped and looked around a little. Maybe we can come back with Uncle Kol and Mommy, that'd be fun.
"Here, let's ask this guy," Klausy slowed to a stop after a short while. I pulled my face out of his chest. Nothing was the same. How far did we go? "Hey, how far is it to Booming Ice Chasm?"
The man startled and whipped to face Klausy in confusion. "Where did you come from?"
"Over there," Klausy pointed in a random direction. I couldn't tell if it was really where we came from or if he was making it up. "My sister really wants to see it. I don't want to disappoint her."
He relaxed when his eyes drifted to me. I turned my face away – normally, I'd smile and wave, but not today.
"I don't know what you're talking about. Never heard of it."
Klausy's voice came out sharper, "Alberta, Canada then."
"Oh, that's about 2000 kilometers, I'd say."
"If you have food, you'll give it to us," Klausy's voice came out in the odd way it did when he was mind-controlling people. "Then you'll take us there, as fast as you can."
"I'll give you my food," He repeated dully, "and take you there as fast as I can."
We got into the guy's truck, and he gave us some sandwiches. Klausy and I tried playing games like I Spy to pass the time. It didn't take long for us to get annoyed. Why was it taking forever? Why was it so far away? The guy drove so long that the sun came down and back up again. We stopped a few times to eat and use to the bathroom.
I know I shouldn't have, but I started being bad. I didn't mean to! I just hated all this traveling. I wanted to be there already. We got off a long plan ride, and now this! I hated it. It was boring. I was tired of sitting so much.
"Are we there yet?"
"Not yet."
"How about now?"
"Not long now."
"UGH!"
Eventually, we got to town, and Klausy made the guy buy a hotel room. I pitched a fit, of course. Klausy wanted to look for the Crystal alone! ALONE! I didn't want to be stuck with this random man! Even if he was compelled to keep me safe and happy. I wanted to help!
"I don't want to leave you alone either!" Klausy flung his arm out in frustration, "But it'll go faster if I'm alone. It's too cold for you to run with me! And what if there's something dangerous?"
"There won't be!" I screamed back. "Take me too!"
"I need you safe!"
"I'm safe with YOU!"
He didn't listen to me! He LEFT ME, so I started breaking things. I hit my limit. I couldn't be good anymore. Not here. Not until we have the Crystal. The man – never found out his name – tried cheering me up, but I stayed upset the entire time Klausy was gone. It was scary; how was I supposed to be happy? What if something happened and I wasn't there?
I knocked stuff over, turned the TV off and on, ran the tub until it overflowed. It felt good to get all my anger out. So, I did. I lashed out until all the icky rage, and bad feels were gone. All that was left was to worry.
Klausy needs to come back. I missed him. I don't wanna be alone.
"Lissa!" Klausy's voice was music to my ears. He opened the door to our room with a beaming grin.
"YOU'RE BACK!" I squealed and bolted across the hotel room. "You found it!"
Klausy puffed up his chest proudly and held the Crystal out for me to see. It looked exactly as I remembered it – a big crystal ball surrounded by golden spikey vines
"The entrance to it was tucked behind a rocky ledge and nearly impossible to see," Klausy complained. "Nobody knew what I was talking about when I asked them. I had to go looking around the mountains. When I finally found it, the entrance was just a gaping hole on the side of the mountain. It had loose stones and snow that turned into a steep ice slope. I slid down to explore it. It was a lot of fun. I wish I could've taken a picture."
I was mesmerized by the Crystal in his hands, my eyes never left it.
"Go on!" Klausy urged. He wrapped a hand around my arm to pull me close. "Touch it. Let's go home."
My little hand reached up, shakily. I could hardly believe it was happening. As soon as I made contact, strong wind and blinding light filled the room.
Booming Ice Chasm was only discovered in 2005. They are from the year 2014 but got stuck in 2002. Ivanna located the Crystal with magic, which was the only reason she knew the cave was there.
Also, if you actually slid down the slope I was talking about, it'd be fatal. Klausy could only do it successfully because he's a hybrid.
Klausy's note:
I was mad at first, but I thought a lot on the plane. I understand, Kael. You want me to be your Nik, and I can't do that. I'll miss you. I wish I could be him for you. I'll remember your advice when I get home. I'll be different to my siblings. I won't treat them like he did. Thank you for your help.
Lissa says she'll miss you too.
Goodbye.
