I've been thinking about another Darkest Powers story and I think I've finally come upon an idea that I like. So as you guys probably know from this story, I like to pick up on where a story leaves off instead of creating my own with someone else's characters. So I want to go into books, chapter area to be determined. What if Chloe didn't know about the necromancy or magic or werewolves? Simon and Derek never clued her in on it and she still thought it was schizophrenia. What would she do when they tried to break out? What would she think when she came across the changing Derek?

Derek's ideas troubled me. I wanted to know what was going on with me, was I infected now? Was I just sick? I needed a definitive answer.

I stayed up for some time, watching the movie play but I barely paid attention to it. My mind was stuck on the time I crossed the border in wolf form. I'd felt so free running around and seeing the other wolves. Honestly, I missed that, the changing sucked but being a wolf wasn't half bad. When you were allowed to behave like a wolf at least. The sitting around waiting to change back was no fun.

I sighed, wishing my mom was here. she always knew how to solve anything. Especially when I didn't feel good, she made the best tomato soup and grilled cheese. It could cure anything.

Derek pulled me closer to him, "It's about time you let yourself sleep Clo. You've been staring at the main menu screen for five minutes."

I blinked, not having noticed that the movie ended. "Sorry, just a lot on my mind."

"I'll tell you it again, take your own advice and relax. There's nothing you can do about it right now, so don't stress over it."

"When did you become the calm one," I forced a smile.

Derek shrugged, "Who knows. Maybe when we showed up at a pack. You know pack communities make my skin crawl. I have to stay calm or else I'll start pointing out they're a freaking cult."

"They're not a cult, they're a community," I argued, temporarily distracted from my problems.

"A community engulfed in abnormal beliefs that changing species is fun and something to be appreciated," Derek argued back. "I'm pretty sure that means cult."

"Isn't our little family a cult then? Our general beliefs would be abnormal to them. Wouldn't they?"

Derek opened his mouth but paused. Finally he said, "This is why I keep these thoughts to us instead of going around saying them. If anyone but you pointed that out, I would've gotten pissed."

I smiled and yawned. Derek quickly pulled me down onto his chest and said, "Keep your eyes closed, pretend you're asleep."

The door swung open and everyone walked in. I kept my eyes closed like Derek said to. I heard Tess quietly shushing everyone as someone shut the door. I think Derek was trying to make sure no one would bother me about how I was feeling. They left the light off as they went to their beds.

"How's she doing?" Tess whispered to Derek as she got into bed.

"She needs time but she'll be fine," he whispered back.

A loud bang rang out from the back of the room, making me raise my head to see what had happened. Jeremy had tripped over a metal bucket.

He groaned as Emma helped him stand back up.

"You alright?" Derek asked.

Jeremy looked over, seeing me 'awake' now.

"I'm fine. Sorry," Jeremy apologized. I waved it off as no big deal and laid back down. I listened to the soft beating of Derek's heart as I drifted off to sleep.

Morning came without anymore late night puking sessions which was nice. I sat up and stretched. The only person who was up was Emma, she smiled over at me from the crackling fireplace. I slid out of bed and walked over to her.

"How are you feeling? You look a little pale," She said.

I shrugged, "It was a rough night but I feel fine right now."

"That's good, I hope you stay feeling fine," she said.

"Me too," I sat down. "So you let Jeremy out of the doghouse?"

She nodded, "I finally realized that I might've been overreacting a little bit. We all lose our tempers from time to time."

I chuckled, "Yeah we do. How're you doing being here?"

She raised an eyebrow.

"I mean, you're staying at a rival packs territory instead of your family's. How are you doing with that?"

Emma thought for a moment, "You know what, I don't think its really crossed my mind very much. I know I spent years wanting to return home but now that I've seen that people can be different, I don't want part in how they behave." She paused for a moment then said, "It might be rude of me to say, but I don't really miss them anymore."

"I think that's completely understandable," I said. "Do you ever miss the vampires?"

Emma snorted a laugh, "Oh definitely no. I don't miss being experimented on at all."

I smiled. We chatted for a little while longer until the others started waking up. When Elijah did, I waved him over to us.

"Yes?" He said as he walked up.

"Elijah what are we doing?" I asked. "I don't want to keep sitting around. Can we go see Matt or something? I need to do something more than sitting here."

"Chloe you're recovering you need to take it easy," he said.

"But can't I take it easy on a car ride?" I asked.

"Do you even know where Matt is?" Elijah asked.

I shook my head.

"Call and ask them where they are," he said. "I'll take you if they aren't too far, but I don't like being away from Tess and the baby for long."

Elijah walked away as I pulled out my phone.

"Don't get your hopes up too much," Emma warned. "They could be anywhere."

The phone rang and rang, I wondered if they were still sleeping.

"Hello," it was Kyle.

"Hey," I said surprised. "Where's Matt?"

"He's asleep," Kyle answered. "You banged him up pretty good, he's still recovering. Why?"

"I wanted to know where you guys were at," I explained. "I was hoping to see everyone."

"Chloe you know we can't come onto werewolf territory," he said.

"No no I meant I'll come to you," I said.

"Ohhh wow I'm dumb," Kyle chuckled. "Well we were going to Tess' but we're in Kansas right now. We had to stop for Matt he couldn't take the car ride."

"Ok, I'll let you know if I can make it."

We hung up and Emma showed me her phone, she'd looked up the drive.

"That's like twelve hours Chloe," she said. "Elijah won't do it, that would mean a minimum of twenty four hours away from Tess. Come on, lets eat."

I frowned as I got up and followed her. Couldn't I go without him? Couldn't we just leave and go back to Tess' since that's where they were heading anyway?

"What's with the frowny face?" Derek asked as I sat beside him.

I just shrugged. He asked how I was feeling and I told him that I was mostly fine, my stomach just hurt. After eating breakfast though, my stomach hurt more and I excused myself to go lay down. Derek watched me worriedly out of the corner of his eye.

An hour or so later, Tess took Jeremy and Emma with her to go to Ashe's and get the laundry that she left behind yesterday. Derek set a water and some crackers by me on the bed as he sat down but I pushed them away, not wanting them.

"Diagnose her doc," Derek said to Elijah as he walked over.

"I've already started," he said as he rolled up his sleeve showing a red magic mark on his arm. "This is the other reason I don't want you going anywhere without me Chloe."

"So its not the flu," I sighed.

Elijah shook his head, "No I don't think so."

I sat up and looked at Derek for a reaction but I couldn't decipher the look on his face.

"You're sure she can't just be sick?" He asked.

Elijah nodded.

"But wait," I interrupted. "Your magic thing monitors the anti-vampire stuff you did not any werewolf stuff."

"I know," Elijah said. "Magics complicated though, it could still be either one that it detected. That's why I want to keep an eye on you."

"Are you sure that's a good idea?" I asked. "I could hurt Tess by accident. Maybe I should keep my distance until we know."

Derek's arms quickly went around me, catching me by surprise.

"You're not going anywhere," he growled softly, a threat and a promise. I wasn't to run away.

"I'll be honest with you," Elijah took a deep breath. "I didn't trust vampire you at all. You were borderline crazy thanks to Nate. But that was a long time ago, I'm willing to bet you'd do better if it happened again."

"That's a dangerous bet," I said as I got out of Derek's arms and stood up. "Excuse me for a moment."

I walked back to the bathroom and locked the door behind me. I just needed a moment alone to think and breathe. Elijah was extremely protective and suspicious of others, but he trusted my control. So everything would be ok, right?

I stared at myself in the mirror, I looked a little pale from being sick but I was otherwise fine. I was going to be alright. It always worked out.

After I splashed some cold water on my face and took some deep breaths, it was time I went back to the guys.
