Chapter 47: Promposal
"Girls, prom is so close now!" Dawn exclaimed.
"And you girls have dates." May said.
"Yeah! I'm going with Paul of course!"
"And I'm going with Ash." Misty said.
"I'm so happy for you both…" May said. She then frowned and looked down.
"What's wrong?" Dawn asked.
"Drew hasn't asked me yet." May answered.
"He hasn't yet? Maybe...he's just planning an extremely romantic place to do it in." Dawn said.
"Yeah...maybe...but prom is this week." May said. "I hope he asks me soon."
"He's your fiancé. I'm sure he just wants it to be the most romantic thing he's ever done before." Dawn said.
May smiled. "Yeah. I hope that's the case."
It's now after school and May is putting things in her locker.
"Hi June."
May jumped a little at the voice next to her. She looked to her left and saw Drew leaning against the lockers, looking at her.
"I told you a million times Drew. It's May!"
Drew chuckled. May's eyebrows furrowed.
"What's so funny?!" May yelled at Drew.
Drew stopped leaning against the lockers and he now faced May. "Nothing." Was all he said.
"Well, if that's all, you can go now." May said, turning to face the inside of her locker again.
"I can't do that." Drew said.
"And why not?"
Drew pulled out a rose and held it towards May. She glanced at it. "Because I need to ask you out on a date." Drew answered.
May blushed, looking at the perfect thornless red rose. To hide her blush, she immediately shoved her head in her locker.
Drew smirked at May's reaction. He took a step closer to May and held the rose closer to her face. She could still smell its aroma from the angle it's at from her face. "So will you?" Drew asked. May's blush deepened.
"I umm…" May said.
"You know you can't say no." Drew teased.
May's blush got even worse. She faced Drew and furrowed her eyebrows. "I can too say no!"
Drew continued holding the rose in front of her face. He smirked. "But you won't."
"I…"
After a moment, May finally snatched the rose out of Drew's hand. She looked away from him angrily.
Drew chuckled again. He moved May's hair away from her ear and leaned in closer to her ear. He whispered. "Meet me at the gazebo at 9." After whispering that, he placed a kiss on her cheek and then backed away. May blushed. Drew walked away from her.
May looked down at the rose in her hands. She smelled its delightful aroma and smiled.
("I wonder what he has planned…") May thought.
At the entrance of the forest, there are lights hung up in the trees, leading the way to the gazebo. There are also rose petals on the ground. Drew planned all of this for May. He's currently sitting down on a blanket in the middle of the gazebo. The gazebo is also decorated with lights everywhere on the roof and spiraling the pillars. Drew has his guitar in his lap and he's tuning it.
At this time, May walks to the entrance of the forest. She notices the path of lights in the trees and the path of roses on the ground. She blushed slightly and entered the forest, following the trail of roses.
"This is definitely what Drew would do…" May said to herself. "He knows the perfect ways to be romantic. I wonder what he has planned for me."
Drew finished tuning his guitar. May walks really deep into the forest. She turned the corner to the gazebo and immediately noticed how decorated it is in those lights. She gasped silently in awe. She then moves her gaze down to Drew who's sitting on the blanket, looking at the guitar neck, and the blanket is surrounded by candles and roses.
She starts walking on the grass path towards the gazebo on the island in the middle of the water. Drew finally hears her and he looks up. He smiles.
"Glad you could make it." Drew said.
"If you ask me out, of course I'd come." May said. She sat down on the blanket in front of Drew.
"Well, I have something to tell you."
"What is it?"
Drew smiled and positioned his hands on the guitar, ready to play. "You'll see." He started strumming a beat. Cue the music.
(This song is "Better With You" by Jesse McCartney.)
"I know it's ugly turning on the news." Drew sang. "There's people fighting over point of view. Sometimes it's like there's nothing left to lose. And I don't know what to do. But I know it's better with you." May smiled and blushed slightly.
"I was a wreck when you came along." Drew sang. "When there was nothing left, you showed me the best. I'm still a mess, but you hold on. Don't know just why you do. But I know I'm better with you."
Drew and May never lost eye contact with each other. Drew did an instrumental section of the song.
"But I know I'm better with you." Drew sang again. He did another instrumental section. "But I know I'm better with you." And yet another instrumental section. "But I know I'm better with you." Drew stopped playing the guitar and he placed it on the floor next to him. He stood up and held out his hand to May.
"For every laugh there is a silent cry." Drew sang as May slipped her hand into Drew's and stood up. "For every day there is a darker night. Sometimes this life doesn't treat us right." With a swift motion, Drew pulled his hand back to him, pulling May to him. Their toes are now touching and they stare into each other's eyes. Drew uses his free hand to tuck strands of hair behind May's ear. May blushed. "And I don't know what to do. But I know it's better with you."
"I was a wreck when you came along." Drew continued, lowering his hand. "When there was nothing left," he sang, leading May to the edge of the island, still holding her hand. "You showed me the best." They stare down at the water and see their reflections. "I'm still a mess, but you hold on. Don't know just why you do." He added, looking at May and cupping her cheek to turn her head. They're now staring into each other's eyes again. "But I know I'm better with you."
May blushed yet again at Drew's words. Drew lowered his hand and they started walking slowly to the other side of the gazebo. "But I know I'm better with you." They stop walking and stare up at the sky to see the moon. Drew looks to his right at the forest, and he nods to a Pokémon. He looks at May. "But I know I'm better with you."
"Wherever you are, it's never as dark." Drew sang. He looked back at the moon. The Pokémon Drew nodded to used Petal Dance towards the sky. The red rose petals sparkled in front of the moon and May stared at them in awe. "Whenever I start slipping, you make all the difference. Been there from the start, no matter how hard. Whatever piece is missing, you know how to fix it."
"I was a wreck when you came along." Drew continued as they saw the rose petals start flying towards them. "When there was nothing left, you showed me the best." The petals started circling them. "I'm still a mess, but you hold on. Don't know just why you do." Drew turned to face May and May faced him. Drew took her other hand in his. "But I know I'm better with you."
The rose petals continue spiraling around them, creating small breezes that cause their hair and clothes to sway. They stare into each other's eyes.
"But I know I'm better with you." Drew repeated. Drew released May's right hand and lifted his hand up. He brushed her cheek, tucking hair behind her ear. "But I know I'm better with you." He finished the song.
After a moment of silence between them, Drew starts leaning it closer to May. His hand moves down to the back of her neck. He closes his eyes first and presses his lips against May's. She closed her eyes.
The kiss was soft and gentle. Not too hard and with a lot of meaning. They both enjoyed it while it lasted. Drew slowly backed his head away from May's, both opening their eyes. Drew's hand is still cupping her neck and he smiles. May returns the smile.
"May, now I'd like to ask you something." Drew said.
May didn't respond which told Drew to just continue.
"Will you be my date for prom?" Drew asked.
May's eyes filled with happiness. "I'd love to." She answered.
Drew smiled. He then leaned in again and planted his lips on May's. They both closed their eyes. They always love the feel of kissing the other. Their soft lips, a romantic scene, a meaningful kiss. The strongest act of love. And they both love to kiss the other. Every time they kiss, they get closer as a couple, which May likes. She loves how she's really found her Prince Charming. The one Prince who she's actually fallen in love with.
Drew slowly backs his head away from her, opening his eyes. May slowly opened her eyes too. The rose petals that were spiraling them now stopped and slowly fell to the ground.
"Tonight was wonderful Drew." May said.
"And it's not over yet." Drew said.
"It isn't?"
"Nope." Drew said. He lowered his hand to hers again. He let go of her left hand and held onto her right. "I don't want you to leave yet."
May blushed. She then smiled and looked down shyly. "W-what do you have planned?"
"Come." Drew said. He started leading May to the back of the gazebo. There's a bench that faces the water and they sit down on it.
They have a perfect view of the stars in the night sky. May looks up at them, her eyes sparkling in the moonlight. Drew looks at her eyes and smiles. He scoots closer to May and rests his arm over her shoulders and the bench. May leaned her head on Drew's shoulder. Drew tightened his grip on her arm.
"Drew, where did the rose petals come from when they flew to the moon?" May asked.
"They came from Roserade using Petal Dance." Drew answered.
"Where is he?"
"Well, he was over there in the forest when I told him to launch the Petal Dance." Drew pointed in front of them. "And now he's probably behind us because he walked back over here, right Roserade?"
"Rose~!" The voice answered from behind them.
Roserade walked to May and Drew and stood in front of them.
"You were great, Roserade." Drew said. "Go ahead and rest in your Pokéball." He said as he took a Pokéball off of his belt.
"Roserade!" Roserade said as he disappeared into a red light. Drew put his Pokéball away.
"Hey Drew? Another question. How are these lights on when there's no outlet out here?" May asked.
"Magic." Drew answered.
May lifted her head off of Drew's shoulder, backed her head away, and looked at him. "That's not true."
Drew looked at May, his arm resting on the bench. "How can you be so sure?"
"Because." May said.
"Because why?"
"Just because."
"Just because why?"
"Just…" May started. "Because."
Drew chuckled and faced forward. "Didn't you say so yourself that my roses are magical?"
"Umm…well…"
Drew looked at May. "So what makes you think that this is not magic as well?"
"Well...I just…" May started. She saw Drew smirk at her and she crossed her arms over her chest and faced forward. "Hmph!"
Drew chuckled and faced forward. "Come on out, Delcatty." He called.
May looked at Drew in confusion. They both saw a Delcatty walk out from behind a pillar to in front of them. The lights went out. It was pitch black now. They could barely see each other.
"Delcatty?" May questioned.
"Nyan~!" Delcatty said, nuzzling her head against May's leg.
"You're...my Delcatty…" May muttered to herself. She then looked at Drew. "Told you it wasn't magic!"
"But yet you possibly believed that I actually have that kind of magic." Drew said.
Delcatty walked back behind the pillar and used Thunderbolt. May's eyebrows furrowed. "You made a good point that it could've been magic!" She yelled at Drew.
"And you...actually believed that." Drew said, flicking his bangs up.
"Hmph!" May said angrily, looking away from Drew.
At that moment, the lights went out. May and Drew looked towards the pillar with Delcatty behind it. May stood up and walked to Delcatty.
Delcatty looks exhausted from using Thunderbolt. "Go ahead and take a rest on the blanket. I got it from here."
Delcatty walked over to the blanket in the center of the gazebo and laid down. May pulled out her scepter.
"Illuminate!" May said, firmly raising the scepter to the sky. The heart jewel glowed pink and the lights that decorate the gazebo and the forest turned on.
Drew saw the lights turn on. "Whoa...when did you learn that?"
May sat back down next to Drew. "When I went to the secret flower field to meet the goddess."
"Well...it's a good power."
"Thanks. And you Mister." May said angrily. "Used my Delcatty to the point where she got too exhausted!"
"I know. And I'm very sorry for that." Drew said. He pulled out a rose and held it out to May. "Forgive me?"
May stared at the rose for a moment. Her anger disappeared and she accepted the rose. She smiled and smelled the aroma of the rose.
May looked into Drew's eyes. "You know I can't stay mad at you forever. Apology accepted." Drew smiled. "But only because you asked me to prom in a really romantic way." May added.
"I'm sure that that's not the only reason you accepted my apology."
May blushed slightly. "It's most of the reason. I was worried that you might not ask before prom comes."
"That's crazy talk." Drew said. He cupped May's cheek with his hand. "There's no way I'd wait any longer to ask this gorgeous face to prom."
May's blush deepened. "G-g-gorgeous?"
"Of course." Drew said. He started leaning in closer to May. "The most gorgeous face in the whole world."
May's face was scarlet red now. Drew's face was extremely close now. They both closed their eyes and shared yet another gentle kiss.
