After leaving Masataka to suffer alone in his cell, Minato decided to go spend time with Shuyu. As Dai Shi had not given him any new orders, he was going to enjoy his free time before this whole world ended. Maybe after Dai Shi revived his grandfather, he would allow him to keep Shuyu. He deserved a reward for all his loyalty and service, right?
"Where could she be?" he wondered as he looked for Shuyu. He had gone to their quarters and found her missing. He then went to look for her in the library where she could usually be found reading but she was not there either.
Dai Shi's fortress was immense with many floors. It was easy to get lost if you did not know your way around. As he turned a corner, he spotted a Rinshi carrying a man over its shoulder. Curious, Minato made himself invisible so he could follow it undetected.
He quietly followed the Rinshi and saw it stand in front of a wall. It seemed to write something on it with its finger and moments later the wall opened up. He quickly slipped inside with the Rinshi before the wall closed and found himself standing inside of an elevator. It descended, accompanied by dreary music, and soon reached the Rinshi's floor. It stopped before opening its doors.
He followed the Rinshi into a huge chamber and Minato froze when he saw hundreds, maybe thousands, of men, women and children lying on stone altars. Was this where Dai Shi was making his Rinshi after the factories were destroyed?
He watched as the Rinshi placed the unconscious man on an empty altar and put a paper talisman on his forehead to keep him that way. Still invisible, Minato explored the chamber. Minato had never seen this chamber before and he had been in Dai Shi's castle for months.
Every single one of these people had a paper talisman that kept them in a state of suspended animation. The talismans glowed with an eerie purple light as tendrils of energy traveled to the ceiling. He followed them and saw a dark crystal suspended over the chamber.
It wasn't just random people either. He saw members of the Genesis cult being kept in this chamber as well, being drained as they slept. He soon found two familiar faces among them.
"So, that's where they went," Minato remarked as he saw Chokun and Denho among these people. As he continued to scan the chamber, his eyes widened in horror when he saw another familiar face and he ran over to the altar.
It was Shuyu and like everyone else in this chamber, she lay unconscious.
"Meirin...?" Minato questioned and he reached over to take the talisman off her but it zapped his hand, causing him to recoil in pain. He tried to pick her up but was violently repelled by an energy barrier. "Dammit." He couldn't carry Shuyu out of here if he couldn't even touch her.
What was Shuyu doing here? Dai Shi had promised him that no harm would come to her. But here she was, being syphoned like a battery as her energy was being gathered by the dark crystal that was hanging from the ceiling.
If Dai Shi could break this promise, then what guarantee did Minato have that he would reunite him with his grandfather?
"I'll come back for you," he swore to Shuyu. "This I swear."

Chapter 60: Fall of the Sovereigns
Kaizer Baron was the first to make a move as he went to engage Dai Shi. The Ignition Booster doubled his strength and power every ten seconds, allowing him to tank blows and dish out powerful punches. Dai Shi put his hands behind his back and casually twisted his body to avoid Kaizer Baron's jabs. As Kaizer Baron threw a punch at his face, Dai Shi countered with a swift kick to his stomach and followed up with a heel kick to his jaw before sending him flying with a powerful sidekick. He crashed into the cliffside, his body buried in the surface.
Rey Gridon sent a raging stream of water at Dai Shi that froze him in a block of ice. Once he was frozen, Rey Gridon threw his hat and sliced Dai Shi in half with it.
"Got him!" Rey Gridon celebrated as his hat returned to him. He expected Dai Shi's body to split in half but instead, his icy prison exploded, sending chunks flying everywhere.
"You believe so, do you?" Dai Shi whispered as he appeared behind Rey Gridon before he delivered a karate chop into the back of his neck, throwing him face-first into the ground. Rey Gridon quickly recovered and lashed out with tendrils of water but Dai Shi just bobbed and weaved between them before he drove his knee into Rey Gridon's stomach, sending him flying into the river.
Imperial Gaim swung his sword at Dai Shi who sidestepped the blade before he smashed his knee into his stomach. He then delivered a series of punches before sending him reeling with a palm strike. He flicked his wrist then threw a punch that rocked Imperial Gaim's skull as he threw him across the battlefield.
Dai Shi backhanded a fireball, neutralizing it before it could hit him then turned his gaze towards Kaizer Baron who began throwing a barrage of fireballs at him. Dai Shi moved in a blur, neutralizing the fireballs before he rushed at Kaizer Baron who stopped him with a wall of fire. He stepped back when another wall rose up behind him, and then two more fiery walls rose up to seal his exits, trapping him inside a swirling column of fire.
[COME ON! OVERLORD ZHUQIAO FINISH!]
[COME ON! OVERLORD XUANWU FINISH!]
[SOIYA! DAI RYUJIN EMPEROR FINISH!]
Once Dai Shi was trapped, the Sovereigns fired their Aura Beasts, blasting Dai Shi at the same time.
"Did we get him?" Rey Gridon questioned hopefully. The smoke and flames from the explosion cleared to reveal Dai Shi, completely unharmed. That wiped the smile right off Rey Gridon's face. "What!? But we hit him with everything we got! That should have finished him off!"
"Then it wasn't enough!" Kaizer Baron snapped before he charged up his Ignition Booster. Beside him, Imperial Gaim was charging up his RyuCalibur with lightning. The two delivered their attacks, the flaming stream and lightning bolt merging to strike Dai Shi but he easily caught the combined attack to return it to them, throwing them to the ground.
"Hm, as expected, you've only scratched the surface of your true power," Dai Shi remarked, unimpressed. "You should give up. It'll be less painful for you if you just surrender."
Kaizer Baron roared as he charged at Dai Shi with his fists ignited. He started throwing punches at Dai Shi who casually blocked them with one hand. Seeing an opening, Rey Gridon threw his hat at Dai Shi but he deflected it with a kick, sending it back to Rey Gridon who caught it with his face.
"Hideyoshi!" Imperial Gaim shouted as Rey Gridon was knocked down.
"I'm fine! God, that smarts!" Rey Gridon grunted.
Kaizer Baron threw a right hook but Dai Shi caught his fist and twisted his arm. He then kneed him in the gut before sending him flying again with a kick. Kaizer Baron went tumbling before he rolled to a stop beside Rey Gridon.
"Are you OK?" Rey Gridon knelt beside him. He did not wait for an answer as he used his powers to heal Kaizer Baron. As a gamer, Hideyoshi had played his fair share of MMORPGs. In those games, each player had a role during combat encounters: Tanks, Healers and DPS's (Damage Per-Second). Tanks had high HP and defense so they were at the front to tank hits. Healers were in the rear to help recover HP and heal status conditions. Finally, the DPS's were the ones who dealt damage, attacking the enemy to reduce their HP.
In this fight, Hideyoshi was the Healer, Mitsuki was considered the Tank and Nagata was definitely the DPS. That much was clear. Of course, their range was not so limited.
"Take this!" Imperial Gaim called down lightning bolts from the sky to strike Dai Shi, bringing him to his knees. Kaizer Baron and Rey Gridon provided support as they fired their elemental attacks as well, hitting Dai Shi with fireballs and icicles. They bombarded him with their powers until Dai Shi slammed his fist to the ground, generating a shockwave that repelled their attacks and knocked them down.
"Dammit," Kaizer Baron growled. "Looks like it's time I used my trump card."
"What do you mean?" Imperial Gaim asked as Kaizer Baron held his hand over the Phoenix Eye of his Ignition Booster.
"Giga Phoenix Blade!" Kaizer Baron called and he grabbed the flame that shot out of the Phoenix's Eye. Gripping it tightly, he brandished it as it solidified and morphed into a new weapon. From the flame, he forged a sword with a crimson hue and a horizontal wheel that sat at the base of the blade. The crossguard was shaped like a pair of wings while the tip of the blade resembled a flame. The blade itself was flame-orange and shining with a flame-like pattern on the flat of the blade.
"Where have you been hiding that thing?" Imperial Gaim wondered as Kaizer Baron transferred the sword into his left hand.
"I forged it just in case we ever fought Dai Shi for real," Kaizer Baron answered as he rapidly spun the Booster Wheel of his Giga Phoenix Blade. "Now seems like the perfect time to use it." With each rotation, the flame-like pattern on the blade began to shine, glowing brighter and brighter until the tip ignited. Even in his armor, Imperial Gaim could feel the intense heat coming off the blade.
[GIGA MAXIMUM BOOST!]
"Eat this, Dai Shi!" Kaizer Baron aimed his sword at Dai Shi and pulled the trigger on the hilt.
"GIGA PHOENIX OVERBURN!"
It fired off a blazing beam of intense crimson energy at the Demon Beast King who casually spread his arms to receive the attack. The beam scored a direct hit and he was enveloped in a huge crimson explosion.
Rey Gridon and Imperial Gaim were completely blown away by Kaizer Baron's new firepower.
"There, it's done," Kaizer Baron panted as he banished his sword. The Giga Phoenix Blade was capable of generating a super-heated beam of energy that would destroy anything it struck. The only downside was that Kaizer Baron needed to feed it with a lot of his own energy but it was well worth it in the end. There was no way Dai Shi could survive that...or so he thought.
"That was an impressive feat, Suzaku," Dai Shi said as he emerged from the smoke and dust, unscathed, leaving Kaizer Baron speechless. "Unfortunately, it was not enough. Now, I do believe it's my turn." In the blink of an eye, Dai Shi went after the Healer first and summoned Makai Ryugen's Makai Ryugahou. Rey Gridon was frozen in shock and Dai Shi proceeded to blast him with the Gatling gun until he exploded.
"Hideyoshi!" Imperial Gaim screamed as Rey Gridon was killed right before their eyes.
"You bastard!" Kaizer Baron lunged at Dai Shi who dodged all of Kaizer Baron's punches and fireballs before he summoned the Yomiyari and plunged it into Kaizer Baron's chest. The Crimson Phoenix Enforcer staggered back with the trident sticking out of his chest. He gripped the shaft as he tried to pull it out but Dai Shi decided to put him out of his misery by blasting him with a destructive Dorinki death beam, destroying him too.
"Akechi!" Imperial Gaim yelled.
"And now there was only one," Dai Shi said, looking at Imperial Gaim, all on his own. "Just you and me now, Seiryuu."
"You'll pay for that, Dai Shi!" Imperial Gaim yelled as he loaded his RyuCalibur with the White Snow Lockseed. He spun the Ryulette rapidly to generate incredible power into his sword until it was at maximum capacity before he squeezed the trigger.
[WINTER CALIBUR BREAK!]
"RYU BLIZZARD CALIBUR!"
Imperial Gaim formed a glyph behind him which multiplied over and over until he had a wall of a hundred glyphs shining behind him. Emerging from the glyphs was a multitude of weapons, ranging from the weapons of every Armored War God and hero of the Three Kingdoms.
Dai Shi had to admit that was a rather impressive feat.
Imperial Gaim pointed at Dai Shi and snapped his fingers, shooting all the weapons at him. Melee weapons shot out of the glyphs like missiles while projectile weapons fired their ammo, bombarding the Demon Beast King mercilessly.
Multiple explosions went off consecutively until Imperial Gaim spent all his ammunition. However, not even that did it as Dai Shi emerged from the smoke and fire with only soot staining his suit.
"Even after everything you went through, everything you've experienced, you've only grown this much?" Dai Shi scoffed. "I'm disappointed."
"AAAAARRRGGHHH!" Imperial Gaim screamed as he charged with his RyuCalibur.
"Such typical heroic nonsense," Dai Shi remarked as he repeatedly dodged Imperial Gaim's attempts to strike him down. "Always quick to resort to violence to solve all your problems. No wonder so many of your soldiers lost their lives."
"They knew the risks when they enlisted!" Imperial Gaim shot back as he swung at Dai Shi's neck.
"And that justifies it? Does that really make it better?" Dai Shi retorted as he ducked under a slash before he stunned Imperial Gaim with a smack and delivered a powerful punch that knocked the air out of Imperial Gaim's lungs. "They followed you. They trusted you to lead them to victory. Most of all, they trusted you to bring them back home alive. How many families have lost their fathers, their sons, their brothers, all because of you?"
Imperial Gaim gritted his teeth in the face of Dai Shi's accusations. Ever since he became the leader of the Shoku Faction, he had to live with his decisions and wrestled with these feelings of guilt but he would not let himself get distracted. He had a job to do here. Mitsuki and Hideyoshi were gone so it was now up to him.
"And your dear cousin died because she chose to follow you too," Dai Shi added, twisting the knife further.
"YOU SHUT YOUR MOUTH!" Imperial Gaim snapped as he threw a punch, shooting a lightning bolt at Dai Shi who smacked it aside. He continued to throw attacks at Dai Shi, trying to land a punch, kick or even a slash but none of them connected as Dai Shi effortlessly smacked them aside.
"Oh? Did I hit a nerve, Seiryuu?" Dai Shi taunted. "You know, your dear cousin was twisted a long time ago. She loved you so much that she was willing to do anything to have you back. That's why Ukitsu approached her. He could give her whatever she wanted and she showed us how good she was at turning you against the ones you love. It's a shame that she's gone. I actually miss her."
[SUMMER CALIBUR BREAK!]
"SHUT UP!" Roaring angrily, Imperial Gaim delivered a blazing slash but Dai Shi deftly caught the flaming blade between his hands, putting it out. He leaned in close so Imperial Gaim could hear every word from him.
"Do you see what happens when you oppose me, Seiryuu? Because of your foolish decision to confront me, thinking you could defeat me, you got your friends killed. All those who follow you, especially those you love, are headed for an early grave and it'll be your fault, all because you're so weak. You couldn't even save Qiongqi and he was begging for you to save him but you killed him instead."
Imperial Gaim withdrew his sword from Dai Shi's grasp, panting and shaking. He shouldn't let his enemy get in his head but his words were affecting him.
"You have all this power and yet you have no idea how to use it properly!" Dai Shi mocked as he threw a dark lightning bolt at Imperial Gaim who barely managed to deflect it with his sword. "Allow me to show you what true power looks like!"
Dai Shi conjured his own Suzakalibur and swung the blade, sending a stream of black flames to strike Imperial Gaim, hitting him with an explosive blast. Imperial Gaim staggered, disoriented, as Dai Shi tossed the sword aside and then charged at Imperial Gaim. The Armored War God of the Ultimate Sword saw him coming too late and received a right hook before taking a swift kick to the stomach.
Summoning the Yomiyari, Dai Shi drove the trident into the ground and bombarded Imperial Gaim with the Grapes of Wrath. He then charged forward with the Makai Ryugahou and slashed his opponent savagely across the chest, violently ripping sparks off from it as he sent him tumbling.
"When I saw all your past battles, I thought you'd give me more of a challenge, Seiryuu. Sadly, you've only disappointed me," Dai Shi remarked.
"Then how about this!?" Imperial Gaim yelled as he got back up and inserted the Ryujin Key into his RyuCalibur.
[UNLOCK THE POWER OF THE SOVEREIGN!]
He spun his Ryulette Spinner rapidly and squeezed the trigger.
[IMPERIAL CALIBUR FINISH!]
"IMPERIAL FINAL CALIBUR!"
Chromatic energy burst from the sword, forming a towering blade of energy, as he swung it at Dai Shi. Dai Shi swiftly countered, summoning the Dai Shiken and forming his own massive blade of Dorinki. Both blades clashed as their wielders struggled, the two combatants pouring all their strength into their attacks.
For a moment, it looked like Imperial Gaim might be the victor. However, at the very last second, it was Dai Shi overpowered Imperial Gaim's attack. The resulting energy feedback destroyed the Dai Ryujin Calibur as it shattered to pieces along with the Ryujin Key, causing Imperial Gaim to recoil as his armor reverted to his Ryujin Kachidoki Arms.
"You know, Seiryuu, you must have wondered how your precious Shoku got infested. You probably assume it was because you kept summoning your armor by opening those portals," Dai Shi spoke casually as he shouldered his sword. "Truthfully, it's because of this." Dai Shi showed that he was wearing Fuyu's bracelet.
"What?" Gaim gasped. "Why do you have that?"
"It's a powerful little trinket, don't you think? It allows me to freely open portals to that other realm and manipulate the plants within. Even the creatures within that realm bow to my will," Dai Shi continued, ignoring Gaim's question.
"So you caused the infestation and drove everyone away," Gaim growled. "People lost their homes because of you!"
"When people lose their homes, they start to lose hope, and their despair creates Rinki that is ripe for harvesting," Dai Shi gloated.
Gaim was already force-reverted to his Ryujin Kachidoki Arms but he still wouldn't surrender. Angrily balling his fists, he charged at Dai Shi and started throwing punches and kicks. Dai Shi effortlessly blocked and deflected the blows before he jumped into the air to avoid the rest of Gaim's onslaught.
His forearms glowed and Dai Shi equipped himself with dark copies of the Baihu Claws. High in the air, Dai Shi growled as dark energy gathered between the claws to form a basketball-sized sphere of Dorinki. He raised the sphere above his head, pouring more energy into it as it grew in size. Gaim's eyes widened as he saw the gigantic Dorinki sphere that Dai Shi now had hovering over them. It was like he was holding the sun in his hands.
"Zhayu possesses the ability to measure if a ruler is worthy of their power. If they ever become corrupted or prove themselves unworthy, Zhayu awakens to punish them. This is why you lose, Seiryuu. Zhayu has judged you and deemed you unworthy."
Dai Shi threw the giant energy sphere at Gaim who was frozen on the spot. The energy sphere completely engulfed him, resulting in a huge explosion that destroyed the Red Cliffs.
KRC: In this chapter, it appears that Dai Shi is victorious. He defeated the Sovereigns without breaking a sweat. The last part where he destroyed Nagata might seem a bit of overkill but it just shows that he's not afraid to throw his power around. As a bonus, here's the basic information of Kaizer Baron's new weapon, the Giga Phoenix Blade.
Blazing Sword Giga Phoenix Blade: Forged by Kaizer Baron himself and stored in the Ignition Booster, the Giga Phoenix Blade is capable of generating intense heat. Like the Ignition Booster, Kaizer Baron can increase its output by spinning the Booster Wheel. When fully boosted, called a 'Giga Maximum Boost', Kaizer Baron can fire a super-heated beam of intense crimson energy that destroys anything it strikes. Kaizer Baron claims that he forged this sword when the time came to confront Dai Shi.
"What do you want now?" Masataka asked coldly when he saw his brother again. After his throat went dry from screaming so much, he began to fall in despair. He didn't even think Minato would ever come back to see him so soon.
"I'm starting to think I made a terrible mistake," Minato said as he passed through the bars like a ghost. "C'mon, we need to go."
All of a sudden, Masataka punched his little brother right in the face, throwing him against the bars.
"What's your game this time, Minato?" Masataka demanded.
"OK, maybe I deserved that, but you need to trust me here," Minato answered, rubbing his jaw.
"How can I trust you after everything you've done?" Masataka questioned suspiciously.
"Because you need me to get out of here alive," Minato told him.
"Why the sudden change of heart?" Masataka wondered.
"I just realized that Dai Shi may not truly have my best interests at heart," Minato admitted with a sigh.
"Really? Now you realize that?" Masataka snarked.
"Look, I'm willing to listen to your snark but we're wasting time here. So, will you trust me or would you prefer to stay in this cell until Dai Shi comes back?" Minato asked as he offered his hand. "It's your choice."
Masataka looked at the offered hand suspiciously. Minato was probably trying to mess with him again but part of him believed that his brother's offer to help him was genuine. Reluctantly, and against his better judgment, Masataka took his little brother's hand. He hoped he did not regret this.
Smiling, Minato took out a teleportation talisman and they both disappeared. Minato planned to take him and Masataka to Sou Gi where the Alliance was based. He would return Masataka to them as a peace offering before asking for their help. Hopefully, they could help him stop Dai Shi.
The two reappeared but instead of Sou Gi, they ended up in Dai Shi's throne room.
"What?" Minato gasped.
"Minato, what's the meaning of this?" Masataka demanded.
"I don't understand. We should be in Sou Gi." Minato looked at the talisman which turned to ash in his hand.
"You just wanted to mess with me again, didn't you?" Masataka accused. "You are sick."
"No, I swear, I didn't plan this!" Minato insisted.
"Now what's going on here?" Saito asked as he entered the throne room with a squad of Rinshi and found the Miyamoto Brothers together. "A jailbreak?"
"Crap," Minato cursed.
"Seriously, you're going to betray Dai Shi after everything he's done for you?" Saito questioned.
"Dai Shi lied to me," Minato growled.
"Oh boo-fucking-hoo! The guy's evil! Of course, he lies! What did you expect?" Saito mocked.
"He gave me his word."
"Then you're just an idiot. No wonder your parents abandoned you."
"You shut your mouth about my parents!" Minato snapped.
"Or what? What are you going to do about it, kid? Gonna fight me?" Saito challenged.
"What do you think?" Minato's eyes narrowed as he summoned his FienDriver.
"You know, when Dai Shi said I couldn't attack Mitsuki's kingdom, I was pretty bored. Thank you for giving me something fun to do," Saito grinned viciously.
"And you call me an idiot," Minato scoffed. "If Dai Shi is screwing me over, he's screwing you over too."
"I don't give a fuck! As long as Mitsuki dies, I don't care what happens!" Grinning viciously, Saito summoned his FienDriver, ready to put Minato in his place.
"Well said, Taowu," Dai Shi's voice boomed in the throne room, causing Minato to freeze as his blood turned ice cold. He looked up and saw Dai Shi standing at his throne.
"Dai Shi..." Minato paled.
"Dai Shi-sama, I found this dirty traitor trying to escape with the prisoner!" Saito reported.
"Thank you, Taowu. At least someone here understands loyalty," Dai Shi acknowledged. "You may leave us."
"Nah, I want to stay and watch," Saito grinned but his smile fell as Dai Shi glared at him. "I mean, I'm going. You can tell me all about it later."
Saito scrambled out of the throne room with the Rinshi.
"First Qiongqi betrays me and now you, Hundun?" Dai Shi asked as he descended. Once he reached the floor, he approached them. "How very, very, disappointing. After everything I've done for you, this is how you repay me?"
"Minato, get behind me," Masataka said as he pulled Minato behind him to shield him from Dai Shi. Minato was surprised by this. Even after everything he had done, his brother was still trying to protect him.
"Move," Dai Shi commanded as he flicked his hand and telekinetically threw Masataka aside.
"Onii-chan!" Minato yelled.
"Why have you decided to betray me, Hundun?" Dai Shi questioned.
Minato gulped in fear but then he remembered how he had found Shuyu earlier and his courage returned. His expression turned from a fearful one to one of defiance as he narrowed his eyes.
"You promised me that Shuyu would not be harmed," Minato said.
"And she isn't being harmed," Dai Shi replied.
"No, you're lying," Minato retorted. "I found her and those other people you captured. You're draining them."
"Oh, so you found out about that. I suppose that would be upsetting but as I said before, she is not being harmed. She's just sleeping peacefully."
"But if you continue to drain her, you'll kill her. You didn't need to take her when you already have so many," Minato argued.
"Perhaps not, but every drop counts and she was already here," Dai Shi shrugged.
"You will let her go," Minato demanded.
"And are you going to make me, Hundun?" Dai Shi challenged.
"Yes!" Minato declared.
[HUNDUN: FIEND OF CHAOS!]
Saver grabbed Dai Shi in his Fists of Salvation and hauled him up to his face.
"I trusted you! You said Meirin would be safe but I find you sucking the life out of her like a vampire! You even promised me you'd reunite me with my grandfather!"
"And I shall," Dai Shi swore. "Let me uphold that promise right now."
Dai Shi snapped his fingers, sending Saver to sweet oblivion as he exploded, leaving no remains.
"Minato!" Masataka screamed as his brother was destroyed before his eyes. All of a sudden, Dai Shi appeared right in front of him and grabbed him by the throat. Masataka struggled as he tried to pry his fingers off.
"You'll be joining your brother soon, Byakko, but until then I still need your cooperation," Dai Shi said coldly as he choked Masataka until he lost consciousness.
