Series 2, Episode 59 ~ House of Zodiacs

Getting Mr Sweet was worthless as by the time the three got back to the open cabinet the gem was suddenly inside it, causing Mr Sweet to dismiss the pair's words, before disciplining them both for dripping water all over his school hallways. As they were dragged away Jerome vowed to find out who stole the gem, knowing with a glance at the small girl who grabbed his hand comfortingly she would help him do so.

Fabian grabbed his sister the moment she walked in through the front door consoling Jerome, promising the boy she would help him out in finding the gem thief all he had to do was ask.

Of course the question of why the girl was wet – Fabian could tell at one point she had been soaked through from the fact she was wearing Jerome's jumper, the eyeliner and mascara that had smudged under her eyes to give her a slight panda look and her hair which was normally in natural curls thanks to Amber's well-taught lessons on how to get the look was going slightly frizzy and more wavey like it did whenever she left it to dry naturally. Fabian knew from one look in his sisters eye the why that was on his lips was not important to ask.

Jerome allowed Camilla to be dragged off with a small smile on his face, thoughts of the gem racing through his mind. He really didn't want to get Camilla involved because clearly Jasper had something to do with what had happened. The last thing he needed to do was add more tension to the Rutter family because if Camilla and her uncle fell out, he knew Fabian would follow his sisters lead no questions asked and block his uncle and godfather from his life. No, he needed to do this alone. He needed to do it to protect Camilla and to help his dad out. If he was desperate, he'd go to the girl.

Amber was not as subtle as Fabian and was more than happy to discipline Camilla on what had happened to her hair and make up the entire way to the task chamber.

Camilla wasn't the only one who was silently thankful when the blonde Goddess fell silent as they entered the room, Amber knowing she needed to focus as they were on a Sibuna mission now.

"Okay," Nina spoke up from next to the hand where the light beam glowed down upon from the globe above, "ready?" she asked looking around at them all as she held up the reflector from Sarah's jewellery box. Once she had nods from all the Sibuna's the American girl carefully placed the glass into the hand, all of them gasping slightly as they saw the light beam bend around Nina to the next hand.

"Woah..." Patricia spoke up before she could stop herself. Magic could do some pretty crazy things and every time she forgot about it either Camilla or Robert went out their way to re-remind the girl she lived in a world where magic existed.

"Okay, one down, six to go," Nina told them all with a nervous sounding laugh, clearly the thought of finding six more reflectors with nothing to go off on how was not a thought she wanted to think about.

Camilla pushed off the wall she had leant on by the entrance and slowly walked her way over to the zodiac Victor had noted down that morning, looking over it to try to figure out what it meant and why it was so important. As she moved around the room Fabian spoke up, "wait so once we get all the reflectors on all the staffs... it will bounce the light and make the constellation shape and open the door?" Fabian summarised what Victor had already figured out, getting a nod from Nina and his sister who was stood behind her though her back was to the room.

"Simple," Patricia sarcastically spoke up.

"Eh, not so much." Nina replied having missed the sarcasm in the girl's voice, "we have no idea what the reflectors are." Nina explained to Amber and Patricia who had missed the first clue hunting mission around the room. "it's like finding a needle in a haystack..."

"there must be a clue somewhere about where the reflectors are," Amber spoke up from next to Alfie.

"fan out guys," Nina instructed, "fine-tooth hunting."

With that they all scattered, Camilla already at a wall looked over hers with more interest, hearing a phone camera go off and knowing Fabian was busy. After a few moments of nothing from her fellow Sibuna's Camilla decided to speak up, "What is this?!" thankfully the only person who heard the fake curiosity in her tone was Fabian as they all wandered over to her the boy raised his eyebrows at her but didn't give the game away that Camilla had come down to the tunnels knowing more than she let on.

It was part of who she was now, she had to be one step ahead of them all how else was she to protect them. If she had kept it from them it wasn't for malicious intent, it was because she was trying to protect someone – he couldn't be mad at her for that.

"Good job Cam," Nina exclaimed as she took in the partially drawn zodiac on the wall along with Alfie as they were the two closest to Camilla currently, "Fabian do you know what this is?" she asked turning to Fabian causing him to look away from his sister.

"Huh?" was the very intelligent response he gave the American as he looked her way, moving across the room to stand next to his sister and take in the drawing on the wall. "it's a zodiac,"

"but it's not one I've seen before," Camilla added causing Fabian to nod his head in agreement with his sister. He had never seen one like it.

"Okay, then we need to find out what it is. This might be the lead we're looking for." Nina told the twins, along with the rest of the Sibuna's but they all knew if anyone was going to find some weird Egyptian zodiac then it be the Rutters.

Fabian raised his phone and took a few photos of the zodiac his sister 'found', if they were going to find answers then he needed something to go off.

The Frobisher shield had plagued Camilla's mind that night, so she was up early the next day to check it out – Fabian and Nina happy to come with her as they wanted to get the good school laptop to check out the zodiac they had found the day before online. Something about the gem looked wrong the night before, but she wasn't sure why.

She had just put the gem back on the shield and locked the case when she heard footsteps from the corridor so she hurried to the stage and pulled out the first thing she could reach in her bag, trying not to look horrified when she saw it was the envelope from her mum regarding John Clarke – something she had yet to talk to the Clarke's about. It seemed Annabeth Rutter – or Walsh as she was in school – had been close with John, friends even as they lived in Anubis house together. She had even so much as gotten in touch with her cousin who was a consulting detective to get some information for Camilla, which was what she had in the thick envelope. Telling the girl not to worry as she would do what she could to get John the proper hearing she could.

This was all great news, but Camilla didn't know what the 'But' in her mother's motives where. She didn't do anything from the kindness of her heart, and Camilla sure as hell didn't think the woman had suddenly grown a mothering gene overnight.

The thick brown package with the navy and blood-red Rutter Archaeology and Discovery logo on it weighed heavily in her hands. There was nothing of real use in it, or so her cousin said in his blunt letter; he had also expressed how much he didn't understand why a cousin of his – no matter how distantly related – would do something like this for a boy (she had also received an apology email from his roommate which caused her to laugh slightly, it seemed the unemotional distant gene ran in the family and thankfully skipped Fabian and Camilla somehow). The only thing for John Clarke now was appeal's court and she could only hope her mother's influence along with his good nature and good behaviour would be enough for him.

"You look stressed," the familiar voice caused Camilla to look up to see Jerome a little off the glass case.

Camilla lifted the envelope so he could see the Rutter logo, hoping it would be enough for him to assume it was her parents causing her stress – not the fact that she was going out her way for a boy because of a crush. "That would be the stress," she answered softly.

Jerome let out a chuckle and nodded his head understanding that it was a parent's thing. Camilla didn't talk much about her family so her response told him not to push his luck. Instead, he focused on the Shield and more importantly the gem.

"Good Morning Jerome, Camilla," Mr Sweet's voice came from the doorway as he took in the scene of the two students, he never expected to spend time in the school both hiding out in the school. "I do hope you haven't been steaking out the Frobisher shield all night."

"No, but Sir..." Jerome spoke up as Mr Sweet went to exit towards his office causing the man to pause. "please, just look at it. I mean really look at it."

Mr Sweet let out a sigh and glanced to Camilla who seemed too engrossed in whatever she was holding from her parents to entertain Jerome, though unknown to the man she was actually paying acute attention to the scene before her. Mr Sweet wandered over to the shield and looked at it as requested from Jerome.

"I really don't know what you're expecting me to see here." He told the boy honestly.

"I have studied this Gem, a lot," Jerome insisted looking to the headteacher as if he wished he believed him, "trust me no one is a bigger expert, and I am telling you that gem is not it! The original I mean."

"Ah," Mr Sweet finally clocked onto what Jerome was saying, "you think it's a fake."

"Yes! You have to launch a full investigation," Jerome demanded as Mr Sweet stood up again, turning to look at him.

"no, I don't." Mr Sweet told him simply, "because I've already had the gem authenticated, by an expert."

Camilla looked up at this, curious to know who this expert was because clearly they weren't very good at their job if she could tell after a few simple tests that the gem was fake.

Jerome even seemed taken aback by Mr Sweets words, asking the question Camilla wanted to know the answer too, "An expert? Who?"

"Jasper,"

Jerome glanced to the lights as they flashed slightly, not enough that if you didn't know to look for it you wouldn't see it, it was enough to tell him that Camilla was listening in to the conversation and she wasn't happy with that answer any more than he was.

Mr Sweet hadn't noticed the strange electrical fault however and kept talking as if it was normal, "and he has told me he's in no doubt that, that, Gem is the original gem." Mr Sweet paused as Jerome glanced to the Gem again. Not knowing that he had just set the two most notorious students in the school after Jasper. "he is a renowned antiquarian after all. And he's got nothing to gain, has he? By misleading us."

"No. I guess not." Jerome spoke knowing the girl on the stage would know he was lying through his teeth just from the sound of his voice.

Mr Sweet seemed happy enough with this answer and left the boy with that. Not seeing him turn around to look to Camilla the pair sharing the same thought.

Jasper might not have something to gain but what of this 'Collector' he was talking to about the gem? They didn't know what he had to gain in the situation.

It was the big Peddie date night with Mr Sweet, and to say Eddie was nervous was like saying the sun was bright. The boy had taken up the normal habit the Rutter's where known for – pacing when nervous.

"This is going to be fine, right?" Eddie asked Camilla, who had made herself comfortable sat on the bottom step with her weird notebook open writing away in it. Being moral support for her friend as he had a nervous breakdown before his date. Camilla was dressed to go out as she said something about needing to talk to her uncle, Eddie assumed it was to do with the thick envelope with her family's logo on it that she carried around with her in her school bag at all times.

Camilla sighed and put the book down and looked to her friend, "it's Patricia and your dad... what could possibly go wrong."

Eddie pulled a face, "that doesn't help at all." He told his friend as he sighed and leaned his head on the bannister glancing down at the open book on Camilla's leg reading some of what she was writing. "Those that heal can harm... those that can cure can kill..." he read aloud before looking to Camilla with a confused glance, "morbid Cam,"

Camilla laughed and shut the book, placing it into her duffle bag she used for school – and digs when in Egypt, "my mind is somewhere only the strongest can handle." She teased causing the boy to join in with her laughter.

Eddie glanced down at his watch before looking up at the doors to the girl's corridor where Amber popped out, meaning Patricia was almost ready, "Come on Patricia," Eddie called up to her, just as a taxi started to hock its horn outside, "cab's here!" Eddie glanced to Camilla who was still sat on the stairs, "can you tell Patricia I'm outside when she gets down?"

"Sure," Camilla told him with a shrug causing the boy to give her a grateful smile before he rushed from the door.

Alfie came wandering from the kitchen giving Camilla a bemused look as he jumped over her to get to the stairs, racing up them as Piper (who was pretending to be Patricia for the date – Joy had explained to all the girls how much this was going to go wrong and expect the snapchats from her) came running down the stairs.

"Wow, you look like an angel." Alfie paused on the steps to take in her look, Camilla frowning slightly and glancing up to Amber who was biting her lip and watching the pair on the stairs flirt trying not to look hurt by it. "you know, except without wings... unless you don't have wings, do you?" Alfie started to look around Piper as if she had wings. He had seen enough weird stuff at Anubis house a girl having wings wouldn't be a surprise now. "still angle like..."

"the words angelic," Piper told him with a bright smile until she heard the slight cough from Camilla and remembered that nobody but the girls knew about her being in the house and she instantly put on her Patricia personal "I mean I don't look it... but thanks for thinking it."

"I'm blocking your way aren't I?" Alfie realised suddenly.

"a little bit."

Camilla rolled her eyes and got to her feet, "Trish... date, with your boyfriend..." she spoke causing Alfie to move to one side for Piper headed down the remainder of the stairs to stand next to Camilla who was pulling on her army green bomber jacket – completing her outfit of black jeans, crop top (gotta show off that belly button piercing when she could), swinging her bag onto her shoulder. Camilla glanced up at Amber who sent her a small thankful smile as she interrupted the couply moment on the stairs and Camilla knew at that moment what she had to do. Project Amfie was back on, and it was going to stick this time.

"There you are!" Eddie's voice caused all heads to whip his way. "wow you look... amazing!" he looked at the girl in awe causing Camilla to look away with a smile. If only the boy knew the truth, he might have not said those words.

"Thanks,"

"Shall we?" with that Eddie opened the door for her and the two exited the house leaving Alfie watching on hurt and Amber watching Alfie trying not to battle with the new feelings of jealousy going through her. She had never felt like jealous when Mara and Mick got together but now with Alfie... maybe just maybe Camilla wasn't the only one falling in love with a jokester.

Camilla turned to the pair at the top of the stairs, "I'm off to have a word with Jasper about a family thing..." she patted her bag with a small smile, "I'll be back before 10." Alfie and Amber nodded slightly before Camilla walked out of the house.

Now wasn't the time for Project Amfie.

Now she had more important matter's which included making sure her uncle knew she was onto him.

The library was dark apart from the single lamp that was lit on Jasper's desk. Jasper bustled around absentmindedly, not noticing his niece who was sat on his chair. Camilla watched in silence as her uncle bustled back and forth, muttering away to himself in a very Fabian like manor.

Once.

Twice.

Three times he walked past her until he turned and finally saw her sat there, arms crossed a serious look on her face that chilled him to the bone.

"Camilla!" he jumped slightly, almost dropping the book he had open.

"Uncle Jasper," Camilla replied getting to her feet and looking at him.

"W-What can I do for you?"

"Oh, I just wanted to come to talk to you about one of your findings." Her tone was innocent but her expression and body language was one of a vulture or a snake circling its pray waiting.

"my findings?" Jasper asked casually, as he moved past the girl and to his desk, taking the seat she had just vacated as if the desk would keep her from striking.

"yes, see I know you claimed something was real, when in fact with a few simple tests I know it's not." She told him coldly.

"Hmm, that's odd," Jasper spoke up, not looking her way as he sorted through the books on the desk.

With downwards wave of her hand behind the man, the book he was holding slammed to the desk. As if some invisible force had come and forced its weight upon it. "that Gem is a fake, it made of plastic. No Gem is plastic uncle Jasper." Camilla spoke from behind him in a threatening tone, the on the desk flickering so for a moment the two were eliminated only from the light of the moon. "I don't know what you're hiding from Jerome but I will find out. F.Y.I I'm one hell of an enemy. Just saying... you can pass that message on to your little collector friend."

Before Jasper could say anything, the girl had turned on her heel and left the building. Not that he wanted to say anything as he was in shock. Camilla knew of the Collector... this didn't bode well for him at all - if only he could explain to her why he was doing this. The hole he had dug himself into, with lives on the line. But she was a child how could he explain that to her, how would she understand? The man's head dropped into his hands. What was he to do?
