Kara sat on the swings in a quiet park just on the outskirts of Rosewood that night, still questioning whether she was ready to face Jason. She was scared. What if he didn't feel the same about her anymore? Did she even know how she felt? What if—
Kara's thoughts were cut off as a chocolate bar was suddenly thrown into her lap, causing her to look up and see Jason sauntering over to her with a grin. Any worries she had immediately faded when she saw him, her own lips twitching into a smile as he came to sit on the swing next to her.
"You remembered?" Kara asked, picking up the chocolate bar.
"You mean how we used to come to this park and stuff our faces with junk food? It was probably the best time of the 2000's for me" Jason stated, taking a bite out of his own candy.
"Away from all Ali's drama…just you and me" Kara smiled, looking down and seeing how Jason had even remembered her favourite chocolate.
"…Why have you been avoiding me, Kara?" Jason couldn't help but ask, turning towards her.
"Everything's been so messy and confusing lately. Joining the A team, breaking up with Wren…I haven't been sure about any of the decisions I've made" Kara told him.
"You're not sure if we should even be friends?" Jason guessed, as Kara shook her head.
"The problem is, Jase…I don't think you and me can just be friends anymore" Kara admitted, her eyes snapping up to his.
"What are you saying?" Jason questioned, a glint of hope in his eyes.
"I'm saying I've loved you since I was fourteen…and maybe I never really stopped" Kara confessed, watching Jason's eyes widen.
"…All that time that you were in prison, that I couldn't see you…it forced me to come to terms with something. To change. I couldn't have you in my life anymore, and that broke me…but it shouldn't have. I was always too dependent on you, too messed up. I wasn't there for you like I should have been-" Jason started, but she quickly cut him off.
"Jason, don't say that" Kara sighed, as Jason reached out to place his hand over hers.
"It's true. We were kids back then, and we were both trying to piece the other back together. And sometimes I still break apart, but I can put myself back together now. Maybe I can live without you in my life…but I don't want to. I want to spend the rest of my life with you, Kara. I always have" Jason explained, bringing her hand up to his lips, kissing the back of her fingers softly.
"I never stopped thinking about you. All the time that I was in prison, you…you kept me going. What you gave me. I didn't know love…or how to be loved until I met you. When I'm with you…it just feels right. I feel like I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be" Kara admitted, leaning forward, until they were only inches apart.
Just as Kara's lips brushed against Jason's, she heard her phone begin to ring, causing them both to pull apart a little. As Kara reluctantly pulled her phone out of her pocket, Jason moved his hand to gently touch her face, his thumb brushing against her cheek.
"Whoever that is, whatever happens over the next few days, I just…I want you to know that I'm with you. I'm not leaving you again" Jason told her, moving to press a soft kiss to her forehead, as Kara beamed.
The smile slowly faded from her face when she saw who was calling her. Wren. With a sigh, she answered the call, knowing he would only call her in an emergency.
"Hey, this isn't really a good time-" Kara began, but Wren cut her off quickly.
"I need you to meet me at the place we had our last date. You and Jason. There's something you both need to know…to see…" Wren trailed off, as Kara's forehead wrinkled.
"Why does Jason need to be there?" Kara inquired, confused.
"It's about his sister. Please come soon" Wren insisted, before hanging up the call.
"They really couldn't let us have two minutes alone together, could they?" Jason grumbled, as Kara giggled lightly.
"You know I'm worth it" She teased, leaning forward so their foreheads were resting together.
"Always have" Jason grinned.
Kara and Jason walked side by side through the airport towards the lounge area, both on the lookout for Wren. He had sounded strangely panicked on the phone, and a panicked Wren meant nothing good. Something had spooked him, and Kara needed to know what it was.
"So, who has a date at the airport?" Jason mumbled.
"He was going out of area to investigate a lead and I didn't want him to leave so…we had a spontaneous date which included overpriced food and bright lighting" Kara explained, as they came into the lounge area.
"I'll have to make sure your next date is more enjoyable" Jason pointed out, as Kara shook her head fondly.
"Is that what we're doing then? Dating again?" Kara asked, shyly.
"I mean, as long as you want to-" Jason started, with a nervous tone, but Kara quickly cut him off.
"I do. I definitely do...but we'll take it slow, right? My feelings are still all over the place" Kara explained, as Jason nodded.
"Whatever you need" Jason smiled.
They soon spotted Wren a few tables over, as Kara waved over to him, frowning when she saw someone was already sitting with him. Her eyes widened when the woman turned around and she saw it was none other than Spencer Hastings.
"What the hell is he doing with Spencer?" Jason exclaimed, watching as Spencer's face seemed to light up when she saw them.
Before either of them could react, Spencer was suddenly rushing towards them, pulling Jason into a bone-crushing hug, with a beaming grin. Jason turned to frown at Kara, clearly just as confused as she was, patting his sister's back awkwardly.
"Wow, this is amazing! I can't believe I finally get to meet you…huh, you're a little shorter than I expected" Spencer stated, with a strange English accent, pulling away.
"…Did you drug her?" Kara questioned Wren, who was slowly making his way towards them, his hands in his pockets.
"This is going to sound insane but…this isn't Spencer" Wren announced, as Kara raised an eyebrow.
"Okay, so you're both on drugs?" Kara guessed.
"I'm Alex. Alex Drake. It's so good to finally meet you" The woman told her, before grabbing her shoulders and pulling her into a tight hug.
"Wait, Drake as in…" Jason trailed off, a freaked-out expression on his face.
"Mary Drake. This is Spencer's twin sister" Wren announced, as Alex continued hugging Kara, twirling them around a little.
"You know April Fools Day was months ago, right?" Kara stated, as Alex finally pulled away.
"Oh, wait! I know how to convince you! Look, no scar" Alex stated, pulling her shirt down to reveal where the scar should have been from the bullet wound Spencer received at the blind school.
"…Okay, so we're on drugs then" Kara frowned, blinking a few times.
"You guys should probably sit down. Things are about to get pretty complicated" Wren told them, pulling Alex away from them.
"So, you're my half-sister…and my cousin?" Jason questioned, pinching the bridge of his nose.
"Pretty much" Alex nodded, excitedly.
"I'm so done with secret twins" Kara muttered, dropping her head onto the table.
"Can I just say I love your hair! It's so pretty…no wonder you're both in love with her!" Alex exclaimed, watching both the men cringe.
"She's really not Spencer, huh?" Kara stated, lifting her head up a little.
"God, I hope not. I mean what a bitch! Everything that she has done to you all…she deserves everything that's coming her way" Spencer grumbled, as Kara's eyes widened.
"Wait…you told her?!" Kara gaped.
"Oh yeah, I know everything. Except from one very important bit of information…" Alex trailed off, making Kara frown.
"Which is?" Kara asked.
"How is this guy in the sack?" Alex grinned, reaching out to grab Wren's thigh, who looked absolutely mortified.
"…Is she for real?" Kara inquired, as Wren nodded slowly.
"I was following a lead on Mary's baby and realised it wasn't leading to Spencer. I pushed further and it sent me back to England…that's where I found Alex. She got put up for adoption while Spencer was given to the Hastings" Wren explained.
"It must have been hard finding out that you had a whole secret family" Kara suggested, watching Alex shrug.
"The secret part wasn't so bad…but finding out about Charles, Ali…even what my own mother had done... I mean I was lucky to get adopted out" Alex stated.
"Did you have a good life? Did they give you to good people?" Jason asked, as a smile spread across Alex's lips.
"The best. They were a little eccentric, but they gave me everything I ever wanted. They're gone now, but I had a great childhood. I'm glad I didn't know about any of this" Alex admitted.
"Why did you bring her here, Wren?" Kara questioned, as Alex interjected.
"I asked him too…well, forced would probably be the right word. I want to help you guys. After everything my family has done, I want to do some right" Alex told them.
"Hey, you're not to blame for anything that your family has done. You don't need to prove anything" Kara insisted, watching Alex shake her head.
"My sister just covered up a murder with her friends, and it doesn't sound like it's the first time. She's dangerous. She needs to be taken out…I mean not in a murdery way…well, probably not-" Alex started but Wren cut her off.
"We're not killing anyone, Alex" Wren told her, as Alex nodded quickly.
"Right, right. That would be totally wrong…but we can completely destroy their lives, right?" Alex grinned.
"I like her" Kara said, as Alex's grin got wider.
"…So, if I have a kid, you'd be their Aunt and first cousin once removed?" Jason piped up, having been zoned out for the last couple of minutes.
"And your kid is going to be my first cousin once removed! Oh wait…that's gross" Alex grimaced, shivering lightly.
"What kid? Are you…?" Jason trailed off, looking at Kara with wide eyes.
"No! Of course not…why do I look fat?" Kara mumbled, looking down at her stomach.
"You haven't told him?" Wren asked, making Jason more confused.
"I was about to before you dropped bombshell number two" Kara complained, ushering to Alex.
"Wren's having a baby with Alison…oh my God, what if she has twins too? Aw, how cute would that be?" Alex beamed, as Wren looked like he was about to pass out at the thought.
"You screwed my sister?!" Jason yelled, with a murderous expression.
"No! God, I think I'm gonna' be sick" Wren muttered, starting to look green, as he took a long swig of the drink in front of him.
"A.D impregnated Ali using one of his condoms" Kara explained, as Jason's jaw dropped open.
"What I want to know is how A.D even got it…I mean were they watching you two getting it on?" Alex pondered, scratching at her chin.
"Alex!" The three exclaimed at the same time, none of them wanting to imagine that.
"Could this get any worse?" Jason grumbled, as Kara gulped when she saw someone had spotted them a few meters away.
"You just had to say that didn't you, Jase?" Kara cringed.
"Holy shit, is that Ezra? Damn, he's a hottie. Hey, Ezra!" Alex exclaimed, waving over to the older man.
"Stop! What are you doing?" Kara cried, grabbing her hand, but it was already too late.
"Is everyone in this town attractive?" Alex inquired, as Ezra began sauntering over to them.
"Hey" Ezra nodded, coming to stand by the table.
Alex went to stand up immediately, her arms outstretched and clearly going for a hug. Kara quickly grabbed her arm, pulling her back down, as Alex awkwardly nodded almost falling back onto her seat.
"Hey, um, I-I don't think you've ever been introduced to Wren Kingston" Alex announced, indicating to Wren.
Wren hung his head in annoyance, making no move to stand, as Kara kicked his leg. They couldn't afford for Ezra to become suspicious of their meeting, which meant they all had to be on their best behavior.
"Wren, this is Ezra Fitz. Wren, this Ezra, Aria's fiancé. No wonder she's so desperate to put a ring on that, huh?" Alex teased, as Kara had to stop herself from face-palming.
"Ha! Isn't Spencer such a scream when she's been drinking?" Kara exclaimed, patting the girl so hard on the back she fell forward.
"Uh, do the four of you meet up a lot?" Ezra frowned, finding it strange.
"I guess you could say it's a double date of sorts" Alex exclaimed, as Kara grit her teeth.
"Or you could say like…the total opposite of that" Kara muttered.
"Kara and Jason are back together, she wanted to meet to iron out any problems I'd have with their relationship and-" Wren began, when Jason cut him off.
"He decided to be petty and bring his ex along" Jason finished, indicating to Alex.
"What can I say, Wren's a total dreamboat" Alex grinned, slapping Wren's ass, as Kara had to bite her lip to stop herself from laughing.
"Oh, I didn't realise you were over Caleb already" Ezra stated, as Alex gave him a blank look.
"Why would I care about Hanna's boyfriend?" Alex frowned.
"She's going through the denial stage of the break up" Kara piped up.
"…Right, yes! Because I've been screwing Caleb. Duh!" Alex chuckled, awkwardly.
"Are you going someplace?" Jason questioned, wanting to change the subject.
"Uh, yeah. Well, I was. Flight's been cancelled" Ezra pointed to the boards on the wall behind him.
"Well, have a drink with us" Alex suggested, excitedly.
"Or don't" Kara mumbled under her breath.
"No, thanks. Uh, you guys are clearly going through some…complicated issues and I don't wanna intrude. But it was great meeting you!" Ezra exclaimed, holding his hand for Wren to shake.
"Same" Wren nodded, shaking Ezra's hand quickly.
"Bye" Ezra said, giving the group a wave as he went to turn away.
"Uh, Ezra. Can I talk to you for a second?" Kara inquired, ushering the older man away from the others.
"Do me a favour and don't go blabbing to your fiancé about seeing us, yeah?" Kara asked.
"What, was I interrupting a meeting plotting against the girls? Has Spencer joined your ranks?" Ezra inquired, crossing his arms.
"No. No, it really was just supposed to be us sorting out our messy relationships, but then Wren brought Spencer along, even though he knew how dangerous it would be-" Kara started, but Ezra stopped her.
"I guess you breaking his heart must have hurt more than you thought" Ezra pointed out, making Kara scoff.
"Speaking of breaking hearts, just how far are you willing to go for your book? I mean are you actually going to say I do to Aria for a book deal?" Kara frowned.
"I'm meeting with a few publishers this week. Look, I'll stay out or your way and you stay out of my way, deal?" Ezra questioned.
"I guess I don't really have a choice" Kara mumbled.
"Enjoy your double date" Ezra stated, patting Kara on the shoulder as he went to walk away.
"It's not a…" Kara trailed off, sighing as she watched Alex trailing a hand down Wren's chest, who brushed her away with a blush.
"Is he going to be a problem?" Wren questioned, as Kara came back to the table.
"No. But I think she will be" Kara insisted, indicating to Alex.
"Me? Nah, I'm gonna' be the ace up your sleeve" Alex grinned, making Kara frown.
"What's she talking about?" Kara asked Wren, who seemed to have averted his gaze.
"I figured if we can't use you to get information from the girls, and A.D has their own spy…we should have ours" Wren explained, watching Kara's eyes widen.
"Her?!" Kara and Jason both exclaimed at the same time.
"Aw, you guys are so in sync" Alex chuckled.
"That is a terrible, awful, dangerous idea! The girls would figure out she wasn't Spencer in no time" Kara pointed out.
"Well, they didn't seem to catch on this morning" Alex muttered, as everyone turned to her.
"Please tell me you didn't…" Wren gaped, when he saw Alex's smug expression.
"I just wanted to see my…Spencer's house and then all the girls turned up! What was I supposed to do?" Alex complained.
"Why were they meeting?" Kara frowned.
"Some detective has been sniffing around. He's looking for a receipt that Spencer signed the night they killed Ronald" Alex informed them.
"Rollins" Kara corrected, as Alex clicked her fingers and nodded.
"This could work Kara" Wren insisted, but she still wasn't convinced.
"You'd need a crash course on everything to do with Rosewood" Kara argued.
"Have you got any other plans tonight?" Wren pointed out, as Kara and Jason shared a look, both knowing there was no getting out of this.
"Ashely! Hi! Oh, it's so good to see you" Alex exclaimed, rushing towards the red-head as she walked out of a lift in the Radley.
"Um, it's nice to see you too, Spencer" Ashley frowned, as she was suddenly engulfed in a hug.
"How have you been? I love your dress by the way, totally showing off all your assets" Alex grinned, the American accent on her tongue sounding strange to her.
"Alex, tone it down before she thinks your coming onto her" Kara's voice warned, from the earpiece that Alex was wearing, carefully concealed by her long brunette hair.
"You seem awfully cheery. Hanna told me you were brought into questioning earlier this morning" Ashley frowned, finding her behaviour odd.
"Well, there's no point crying over spilt milk, right? Or I suppose a possible homicide in this case?" Alex chuckled, slapping Ashely on the arm as she laughed.
"Oh, God" Kara muttered, as Alex realised she was failing epically at her mission.
"…Right. I really need to get to this meeting, so…" Ashely trailed off, going to walk past her.
"Wait! I need to talk to you about something!" Alex exclaimed, grabbing the older woman's arm.
"Yes?" Ashley frowned.
"…Are you a natural redhead?" Alex inquired, as she could hear a cry of despair through her earpiece.
"Alex, focus! Remember the script!" Wren's voice suddenly stated.
"Right, right. The script-" Alex mumbled, letting go of Ashley's arm.
"Script?" Ashely questioned.
"Yes, the script! Uh…the script that the police were reading from this morning. You see, they seemed very interested with the Radley. But when it was still a sanitarium…um, actually they were asking a lot about Hanna. Hence, here I am" Alex announced, throwing her arms out.
"What sort of questions about Hanna?" Ashely inquired, fear flashing across her face for just a moment.
"You know, the usual...was she involved in this murder or that. Oh, and about Bethany Young" Alex admitted, watching Ashely's jaw tense.
"Bethany?" Ashely asked.
"They seemed to think Hanna and Bethany knew each other and I told them that is completely insane, right?" Alex went on, watching Ashely's nervous expression.
"I knew someone would find out" Ashely sighed, walking over to a nearby stool and leaning against it.
"So, uh…just to clarify, Hanna knew Bethany?" Alex said loudly, in case the others hadn't heard.
"When Hanna was a teenage she had some…problems. Bulimia. Which I know she told you all about but…I doubt she ever told you how bad it got. She had to be admitted to Radley sanitarium and that's where she met Bethany. They were good friends for a while. Then Hanna got discharged and, I suppose Bethany felt abandoned. I think Alison found out about their friendship and suddenly Hanan didn't want to talk about her anymore" Ashely explained.
"And you didn't think to mention this when Bethany's body was found?" Alex gaped.
"I wanted to protect my daughter. I will do anything to protect my daughter…besides, I asked Hanna about it and well...it seemed like she didn't even remember being friends with her" Ashley confessed, making Alex frown.
Without another word, Ashely rushed away from Alex, obviously concerned she had told her too much. Alex could hear heavy breathing coming from her earpiece, but it seemed everyone was in too much shock to speak.
"So, what do we think?" Jason's voice inquired, a few moments later.
"I think she dyes it" Alex mumbled, watching Ashely saunter over to the bar.
"About Hanna possibly killing Bethany, not whether her mother is a natural redhead" Kara clarified, with a sigh.
"Oh, right. Well, I think she's telling the truth" Alex stated.
"I don't know…how could I have never found out about Hanna being friends with my sister? I visited her almost every day" Wren pointed out.
"Hanna did look pretty different back then, and it sounds like the friendship was pretty short-lived" Kara suggested.
"Or maybe I just didn't know my sister at all" Wren said, a sad tone to his voice.
"Don't say that, Wrenny. I bet you were the best brother" Alex insisted, ignoring the strange looks she was getting in the bar, as people thought she was talking to herself.
"Wrenny?" Jason's amused voice snorted, as Alex could hear Kara giggling lightly.
"Meet back at mine" Wren informed her, in a strained voice.
"Understood. Over and out" Alex exclaimed, removing her earpiece with a grin.
With a spring in her steps, Alex walked out of the Radley towards the rented car she was using. Alex had a beaming smile on her face as she sat down in the front seat, trying to remind herself of which side of the road she was supposed to drive on. She knew what she was doing was dangerous, but it was so exciting! She was really a part of the group. They were relying on her. Not only that, but she was helping her cousin…or half-brother, at the same time. Alex knew it was fate the moment Wren had walked into the pub she worked at, and she knew she had made the right choice following him.
"Hello Spencer" A soft voice announced, making Alex jump out of her skin.
"Bloody hell, don't do that!" Alex gasped, clutching at her chest, as she whipped her head around.
The middle-aged woman with jet black hair frowned from the backseat, noting the strange English accent Alex had. Neither women said anything for a few seconds, as a look of recognition slowly grew on Alex's face, tears beginning to well in her eyes.
"Mum?" Alex questioned, realizing the woman in front of her was none other than Mary Drake.
Author's Notes: I hope you all enjoyed this chapter! Just to clarify, Alex is definitely not A.D in this story and she will be different from how she was on the show...much more sane, and a bit more fun, haha. I hope you guys like this version of her! Please leave a review:)
NotRob: Kara's revenge is almost in her grasp now. And you got your wish, they're finally back together! I just couldn't keep those two away from each other any longer.
silentmayhem: Aria will get what's coming to her, don't worry! And the book will be worth the wait, trust me, haha. Thanks for reviewing:)
Nicole Beverley234: This chapter will give you a clue to your answer!
Purplestan: A.D has no morals at this point, and they clearly like playing God. Wren's had a tough time of it lately, but hopefully, it'll all be worth it in the end. Thank you for the review:)
aldupotterbing: It seems like Kara's tipoff is going to play off too! The girls are about to get in a lot of trouble.
