"Emerl! WAKE UP!" A high pitched voice filled the robot's hearing. When the robot's vision cleared, he found himself staring at a black robot that was left behind in Eggman's old abandoned base.
"I SAID WAKE UP!" Bokkun yelled. "You can hear me, can't you? Turn yourself on! What's the matter with ya?! Did your brain short circuit? Come on, get up! We got an important mission to carry out, so there's no time to loose!"
Emerl nodded his head a few times, and Bokkun watched in curiosity. Emerl stood up and looked down at Bokkun.
"Good!" Bokkun said, putting his hand on his hips. "I hope your batteries are all charged up, because we're gonna have a real busy day!"
The robot's blue eyes blinked in response.
"I'm in charge in this operation, so you'll have to obey all my commands, okay?
Emerl's eyes sparkled once again, and nodded at Bokkun.
"All right, Ermel!" The little black robot lifted himself in the air. "Let's go!"
Emerl took off after Bokkun, the wires snapping off him as he followed Bokkun to the door. Bokkun looked back to see if Emerl was following him, and pressed a button to open the door.
"We're going to give either Sonic or Silver the real smash today!" Bokkun cheered excitedly. "FORWARD, MARCH!" And with that, the little robot flew off, laughing as he walked along, with Emerl close behind.
...
"City Park has been overrun! Overrun by fitness fans obsessed with running! This new phase is all thanks to Sonic and Silver the Hedgehogs. These heroics have inspired thousands of people to put on their running shoes and run for fun!"
The reporter Scarlet Garcia handed her mic to an runner. "Why did you decide to take up running, sir?" She asked.
The man smiled, pumping his fist on his Sonic and Silver T shirt. "I don't know. Sonic and Silver have such a great time racing around, I thought I'd try!" He said, wiping the sweat off his head.
Penny eyed the TV smiling. Sonic and Silver really had become famous over these past few months! She sat next to Vanilla, and they were about to watch when Amy's angry yell blasted through the room.
"SONIC!" She yelled angrily. Penny gulped nervously. Amy angrily tossed open the door and made her way to Penny.
"Hi, Amy..." Penny said nervously.
"What's wrong?" Cream asked as she and Cheese started shuddering. Vanilla had her hand to her mouth in a startled and shocked motion as Amy hopped onto the table. "All right, where are you hiding, Sonic?! You'd better come out NOW!"
Even though her heart was pounding, Penny walked up to Amy. "He's not here! Silver's not here, either!"
Furiously, Amy grabbed Penny behind the neck threateningly. "YOU CAN'T FOOL ME!" Amy yelled in Penny's face. "I KNOW YOU'RE HIDING, AND PENNY'S JUST COVERING FOR YOU, SO COME ON OUT, SONIC!" And right at that, she pulled out her hammer. "I'm not covering for him!" Penny protested, gasping. "Sonic was here earlier, but he left with Silver! And they didn't say where they were going!"
"Penny is telling the truth, Amy!" Cream said, eyes wide.
"Chao!" Cheese said desperately.
"What's going on here?" Chris asked, walking in. Penny took the note to move over to Vanilla, who put an arm over the girl's shoulder. Amy sat on the table, and Chris frowned at Amy. He'd never think Amy would go that far to threatening his older sister, and he was having quite enough of it.
"I'd better find him right away." Amy said, looking at Chris. "Or there's going to be big trouble!"
"Why?" Chris asked. "What's wrong?"
"Is the monster attacking the city again?" Cream asked, eyes wide.
"No, it's worse." Amy growled. And as she growled, fire started highlighting her body.
"I'm sorry, Amy!" Cream whimpered, clutching Cheese. "I didn't mean to make you angry!"
"Chao Chao!" Cheese said in agreement.
Penny nervously held on to Vanilla as Amy continued her temper tantrum.
"Take it easy!" Chris said. "Just tell us what's going on, and maybe we can help?"
"NOBODY CAN HELP!" Amy yelled. "SONIC HAD A DATE WITH ME AND HE NEVER SHOWED UP!" She let out an angry scream, and lighting soon followed, causing Penny to squeak fearfully. Sonic had told her that he was going out with Amy, but Penny didn't feel the courage to stand up for Sonic, for fear of getting beaten up by Amy.
"Is that all?" Chris asked when the light shimmered down.
"Oh?" Amy asked. "So you think I'm overreacting?"
"Well..." Chris said. "Just a little."
"That's easy for you to say!" Amy said. "It took him forever to ask me out! I was so excited, I went out and brought new shoes! And a new hair ribbon!"
"You look really nice, Amy." Cream said, still standing as far away from the angry hedgehog.
"IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW I LOOK BECAUSE SONIC STOOD ME UP! AND I BET IT'S ALL BECAUSE OF PENNY!" She sat down and began to sob.
"What did I even do?!" Penny muttered.
"I'm sure there's a good reason Sonic had missed your date." Chris said, putting a hand on the pink hedgehog's shoulder.
"Chris, out of all people, don't comfort her!" Penny thought angrily.
"Oh, yeah?" Amy whimpered. "Like what?"
"Well..." Chris thought for a moment. "Maybe he... I know! He and Silver had to go and stop Eggman from destroying the planet!"
"I thought Dr. Eggman was in prison!" Amy pointed out.
"Yeah, I forgot." Chris said, putting a hand over his mouth.
"Just like Sonic forgot our date."
"Maybe he is coming," Chris said. "But he's running late!"
Then, the doorbell rang.
"He's here!" Amy said excitedly. She ran towards the door, happily yelling Sonic's name, leaving a trail of dust in the process. Penny, Chris, Cream, and Cheese coughed in the dust.
"I'm ready!" She smiled. But when she looked up, she looked surprised that it wasn't Sonic at all.
"Hey, is Sonic around, Amy?" Uncle Sam asked. "I just put a new engine in my car, and he'd said he'd race me!"
Amy blinked, stunned.
"I can't wait! My new engine runs on high obtain rocket fuel! It's got more horse power than you can find in a rodeo! With this baby under the hood, I'll be taking a victory lap before Sonic leaves a startin' line!"
"Hi, Uncle Sam!" Penny called from the doorway.
"I hope Sonic's not getting cold feet. When I called him this morning, he said he didn't have anything else to do today!"
Penny, Chris, Cream, and Cheese braced themselves when Amy started getting angry. A blue aurora started to form around her, and she grunted. Cream, Cheese, Chris, and Penny clutched to each other fearfully.
"What's wrong?" Sam asked, kneeling in front of Amy. "You look steamed!"
"SONIC HAD A DATE WITH MEEEEE!" Amy screamed, causing the people around her to flinch.
"Oh, boy..." Penny thought as she plugged her ears.
...
"She's upset because Sonic missed their date." Chris explained to Sam as Amy sat on the hood of Sam's new racing car, angrily running her finger over the smooth edge.
"Well, that's a bummer." Sam said, scratching his head. "Looks like Sonic made two different appointments and stood both of us up."
Chris and Cream looked at each other. "That doesn't sound like Sonic." Chris said.
Penny said nothing as she stared down at the ground. She knew why Sonic was having a date with Amy...Sonic told Penny the plan himself. He was hoping if they would go out just once, she would FINALLY stop bugging him about it and leave him alone and stop bullying Penny. But now Sonic missed Amy's date, and now she was never going to leave him or Penny alone. Penny frowned. Surely there was a good explanation on why Sonic missed their date! Right?
"The truth is that Sonic doesn't care about me. He cares more about Penny! That's why he didn't show up for our date."
"Amy..." Cream whispered.
"Sonic's a busy guy!" Sam said. "I bet it takes lots of patients to date him. Not to mention a pair of excellent running shoes to keep up with him!" And with that last joke, Sam burst out laughing.
"Uncle Sam!" Chris scolded. Penny gave her uncle a glare.
"I know!" Amy said. She did a backflip and landed in Uncle Sam's passenger seat. She smiled at Sam. "Since Sonic bailed on both of us, we'll go out together!"
"You two?!" Chris asked, sweat dropping a little.
Sam smiled, then walked over to the driver's seat. "All right, Amy. Let's show Sonic we don't need him to have fun!"
"Come on," Amy frowned. "We better get going before the whole day is shot!"
"Hold on, Uncle Sam!" Chris tried to protest.
"Don't worry!" Sam said. "We won't be long! Last year, I set a world record for Speed Team!" The engines roared to life, and drove off.
"This is crazy." Chris said. Penny had said nothing through the entire time.
"Poor Amy." Cream said. "She's been waiting to go out with Sonic for a long time."
"Yeah!" Chris said, folding his arms behind his head. "I guess Sonic doesn't take dating as seriously as she does."
"Chris!" Penny snapped sternly.
"I think that's awful!" Cream said, walking away. "Come on, Penny!"
"Cream!" Penny called after the rabbit. "Wait up!"
"Hey, wait!" Chris said, flailing his arms around in frustration. "Don't get mad at me! Get mad at Sonic!"
...
Uncle Sam's car drove down the road at good speed. While he was driving, Amy was really furious with Sonic. "Sonic is the most self-centered guy I've ever met." She grumbled, kicking her feet as she spoke.
Sam sighed contentedly, as if he wasn't paying attention to what she was saying. "This wind is really refreshing!"
Amy stared at her new shoes. "He's always running off on adventures with Penny without telling anybody! And I end up alone!"
"This new engine is great! And it gets awesome mileage too!" Sam continued.
"Even if I could keep up with Sonic, he's not the guy who could settle down or even stand still for long." The pink hedgehog complained as she stared at the road ahead of her.
"Whoa!" Sam said excitedly. "S turns! What'd you say we see how this baby handles?" Sam asked excitedly. Amy frowned in frustration at Sam, slamming her hands on the dashboard. "You haven't heard a word I said!" Amy growled, and Sam grinned at her. "Hang on, here it goes!" And with that, the Speed King started doing crazy curves and turns in his new car. "Why waste time on Sonic if you can't catch him?" Sam asked as he spun the wheel to his car. "After all, in life, you only get one lap around the track!"
"I don't know for sure that it would ever work out with Sonic, after all he likes Penny." Amy said.
"I still say you tell him to hit the road, but I guess he already did!" And with that, Sam burst out laughing.
Amy groaned, slapping her forehead. "Let's drop this subject and figure out where we're gonna go..." She grumbled.
"You just name it!" Sam smirked.
"The beach!" Amy burst out.
"That's kind of far..." Sam protested, but Amy was on a role. "Well Sonic doesn't like water, so we won't run into them there!" She yelled, raising her finger in the air to make her point.
Sam shot the girl a wink. "You win, princess!" He said. "If you wanna hide out from Sonic at the beach, then we'll coast to the coast!"
"All right." Amy said. "Thank you. One more thing. Let's agree not to talk about Sonic. Or Penny. Okay?"
Sam shot her a wink and thumbs up. "The hedgehog and girl are now history!" He said as they drove off.
...
Meanwhile, at a nearby prison...
"Prison food is the best!" Eggman muttered as he and his robots chowed on their lunch.
"Prison food is like sewage!" Decoe complained.
"It is lucky for us we have no taste circuits," Bocoe said.
"I'm hungry!" Eggman growled as he banged his bowl with his spoon. "Bring me more!"
"We demand refills now!" Decoe demanded also, banging his own bowl.
"Hurry up, waiter!" Bocoe demanded.
A cop holding a huge pot and spoon walked up, completely fed up with their new captor's complaining. "Can it or I'll throw you in solitary!" The cop threatened the prisoners. "Dinner time's over!"
"Don't you realize an genius like me needs more food than the average person?!" Eggman yelled, clutching the bars of their prison cell. "My superior brain burns up millions of calories!"
"This kind of treatment is inhuman!" Decoe yelled, also clinging the bars. Bocoe joined him. "And it is bad for robots, too!"
"KNOCK IT OFF!" The cop yelled as the prisoners started rattling the cage. "This is a prison, not a four star restaurant! Now pipe down!" The cop grumbled as he slammed down a soup bowl.
"Slop some of that slop in my bowl!" Eggman growled at Bocoe, who started serving himself some more.
Soon, they were sitting on their beds, eating their seconds. "Any more of this and I am going to self destruct!" Bocoe whimpered.
"I wish we were back at the base!" Decoe said. "I am dying for a drink of motor oil!"
"We cannot take much more of this!" Bocoe added, and the two bots looked at the doctor. "When are we going to get out of here, doctor?!"
"Relax, we'll be checking out of this dump any minute!" Eggman said. "If anything goes according to plan, our breakout team is about to give Sonic the run around!"
...
Now, where was Sonic when he forgot Amy's date? He was with Silver, making sure Eggman stayed in prison. They had been running around for some time when the wall in front of them exploded, and a high-pitched familiar laugh rose in the air. The two jumped back, and neither of them were surprised to see Bokkun on an army machine gun.
"What a coincidence running into you two!" Bokkun laughed.
Sonic and Silver got into fighting stances. What they didn't know about the machine, was that the robot that Bokkun had found, Ermel, was strapped in the very middle of the machine.
"I have an idea!" Bokkun said, dancing a little on the roof of the machine gun. "Let's play a game! A shell game!" With one command to the machine, the machine nearly ran Sonic and his partner over, but luckily Sonic and Silver dodged it.
"FIRE!" Bokkun ordered, and the machine set out a missile right at Sonic. Sonic managed to dodge it, grunting as he did. The second missile lunged for Silver, but luckily he too dodged it easily. Sonic smirked as he managed to dodge the last one, but sweat dropped when the gun was placed directly to his face. Bokkun laughed. "GET HIM!" He plugged his ears as the missile exploded, and his eyes widened when he saw that neither Sonic nor Silver were there.
"ALL RIGHT!" Bokkun cheered.
However, something caught his eye. He looked down, and sitting on the gun was Sonic. Hearing a whistle, Bokkun looked up to see Silver floating in the air and giving the robot a teasing look of disapproval. Soon, Sonic sped away, with Silver floating in the air after him. Bokkun still chased after them. "Hold it, hedgehogs!" Bokkun yelled. He fired again, but the two were too fast for the missiles. Bokkun cheered excitedly. "YEAH!" He cheered, laughing his little annoying laugh. "KEEP FIRING!"
...
They seemed to be lost in a flock of sheep.
"Oh, great." Amy grumbled. She stared at the flock of sheep around them. She glared at Uncle Sam. "Didn't you tell me you knew a shortcut to get to the beach?!"
Sam chuckled. "Sure. But I didn't say I was taking it, didn't I?"
"I BET YOU'RE LOST, AREN'T YOU?!" Amy yelled accusingly.
Sam winked at her. "Hey, I never get lost! I just can't figure out where I am some times!" He burst out laughing.
Amy looked around at the sheep in front of them. "THIS DAY IS A DISASTER!" She yelled angrily.
...
A general store keeper jumped in shock as the door slammed open, and his eyes widened in surprise to see a little pink hedgehog, covered in dirt and looking furious.
"I need a map." Amy demanded.
The manager stood up. "Sure thing." He said. "Looks like you could use a bath, too."
"I know." Amy said, and she began brushing the dust off of herself.
Sam soon came in. "I guess I should've pulled the top up when we went down that dirt road." Sam said, looking apologetically at Amy. Amy shot him a glare, putting her hands on her hips. "I'm not taking any more of your shortcuts! I'm buying a map and I'm going to find out the best way to the beach!"
"What have we here?" Sam smirked, pulling a green leaf from Amy's quills. He looked at the leaf and blew it away. Amy stared at him. "How could you be so easy-going? Don't you even care if we're lost?!"
"It doesn't matter to me where I end up going." Sam said, relaxing his hand on an open door. "As long as I have fun getting there!"
Amy blinked at him, and then looked down glumly. "That sounds something like Sonic would say." She said.
"Sonic?" The manager asked. "You just said the magic word, miss. You don't happen to know Sonic, do you?"
Amy and Sam stared at the manager. "Of course I know him!" Amy said, blushing. "Sonic and I are extremely close!"
"Except when they have a date!" Sam said, and he burst out laughing. Furious, Amy slammed her foot on Sam's, and the Speed King hopped around, holding his foot and grunting in pain.
"I know your friend Sonic more than I can ever repay." The manager said.
"Why?" Amy asked. "What did Sonic do for you?"
The manager told her how his grandchild accidental took a ride on a wild and rampaging horse. The manager couldn't keep up with him. Just when the manager thought all hope was lost, a speedy blue blur dashed past him, and rescued the manager's grandson. Sonic returned the boy to his grandpa, and the two hugged. Sonic patted the boy on the head, and the two smiled at Sonic as he gave them a thumbs up.
"Sonic came to the rescue again." Amy said once the manager finished his tale. The manager smiled. "The welcome map will always be on my front porch for Sonic the Hedgehog." He said. "And any friend of Sonic is a friend of mine." He handed her a map. "Here, take it! And some candy, too!" He placed the map and a bag of candy in her hands. "With my compliments!"
Once they got their items, Amy waved goodbye to the manager. "Goodbye!" She called. "Thanks for everything!"
The manager waved after them. "Bye! Tell Sonic I said hey!"
Soon, they were on the road once again.
"You know, I just remembered something." Sam said, and Amy looked at him with curiosity. "Sonic and I are supposed to have our race tonight, not today!"
"Then Sonic only stood me up!" Amy said, lying back on her seat.
Sam put a hand on his head. "I forget sometimes. I guess when you move as fast as I do, it's hard for your memory to keep up with you!" Sam burst out laughing once again.
"I wish I could forget Sonic and Penny," Amy thought as she looked out the window.
...
Bokkun continued laughing as he chased Sonic and Silver down the streets of the prison. "Get ready for the tele-blast!" Bokkun cried gleefully. "FIRE!"
At his command, millions of tiny TV bombs exploded right at the two hedgehogs. Having enough, Sonic left his partner and dodged up a wall of a building, and dove right for the center of the machine gun. "LOOK OUT BELOW!" He warned to Bokkun.
"DON'T HURT ME!" Bokkun wailed, flailing his arms. But Sonic didn't go straight forward to the center this time. Instead, he landed on the canon, and he twisted it around so that it would clog up and explode from the inside. Sonic jumped, but Bokkun had the machine grab him in its metal hands. Sonic yelped as Bokkun tossed the hedgehog into a pile of crates. With Silver's help, the two dodged the fist.
"Let's give Sonic a hand!" Bokkun laughed.
Thinking quick, the two hedgehogs managed to confuse the hands, and managed to get the machine to loose its balance. Bokkun whimpered as he fell to the ground. He turned to look at Sonic, who was frowning. "Thanks to you, I'm running late on my date with Amy!" He gave the machine a kick, but as he did, another explosive TV popped out and exploded.
"I FOOLED YOU!" Bokkun cheered. "While you were running away from me, another robot was breaking Dr. Eggman out of prison!"
Thinking quick, Silver grabbed the nearest rock and chucked it at the little robot. Bokkun fell, screaming, and landed on the ground.
While Silver was doing this, Sonic appeared out of the wreckage, looking uneasy. "Another robot...?" He asked. He turned to look at the machine, which had a gap leading to the middle. It looked as if there was a robot that was controlling the machine... now it was on its way to free Dr. Eggman.
Sonic frowned at this.
...
"I guess I should just face the facts." Amy mumbled to herself as she sat on the hood of Sam's car in front of a cafe. "Sonic's always gonna be on the run, and he's always gonna love Penny. I guess the two of us aren't just meant to be."
"Here." Sam said, walking up to Amy. In his hands were two small ice cream cones. "Thank you." Amy said.
The two sat together on the roof and quietly ate their ice cream for a while. A thought came to Amy's mind, and she looked at Sam. "You're like Sonic, aren't you?"
"I wish." Sam said. "When Sonic wants to hit the road, all he needs are his feet. Unfortunately, I can't travel very fast without a car."
Amy placed a hand on Sam's car. "No car in the world can keep up with Sonic when he's running at full speed."
Sam smiled, looking up. "Yeah, you're right." He admitted.
"Then why race him?" Amy asked curiously.
"Hey!" Sam shrugged. "You still have to try!" He relaxed his shoulders and looked forward. Amy glumly looked down at her ice cream. "Yeah. That's the same way I feel." She said.
Their moment was nearly ruined when something sped right past them.
Amy and Sam looked at each other, shocked. They soon got in the car and followed the speedster. Amy looked ahead while Sam called home base. "Roger." He answered. "I'll stay on its tail!" He put the radio down. "Headquarters think that it's headed straight for the jail that Eggman's locked up in!"
Amy looked ahead and placed her hands on the window. "That thing will break in, so Eggman could break out! If we let that thing into the city, Eggman will be loose again! We've gotta stop it somehow, Sam!"
Sam smirked. "You're right." He said. "But my car's no match for an armored beat like that."
"If you catch it, I'll stop it!" Amy suggested.
"Okay." Sam said. He leaned towards the dashboard and pressed a few buttons. "Hang on, Amy!" He laughed excitedly. "I changed it to racing mode!"
Amy took that note to sit back down, and as she did, the car transformed. Her seat was now behind Sam's.
"Now let's chase that mean machine down and run it off the road!"
Soon, they were after the robot tank. It seemed to be a lot faster than Sam's car, because it was speeding up ahead.
"We're loosing it!" Amy gasped.
"Don't worry!" Sam said. "I know a shortcut!" The Speed King drove off the road and sped right behind the robot. When they were close, Amy stood up in her seat. "Steady, Sam!" She ordered.
"You only have one swing, Amy!" Sam cautioned her.
"That's all I need." Amy said through gritted teeth.
Sam pushed a button, and when they were close enough, Amy gave a battle yell and gave it a direct hit. She gasped in excitement as the hammer that impelled itself into the machine caused it to malfunction, and then it exploded.
"We did it!" Amy cheered.
"Great work, Amy!" Sam praised.
"Isn't this a great feeling?" Sam asked, and Amy looked at him curiously. He grinned. "We're almost at Sonic speed!" He shot her a thumbs up, and Amy smiled excitedly. He was right! So this is what it felt like!
"Sonic, now I understand why you like to run!" She grinned.
They sped off.
...
Eggman, Decoe, and Bocoe had their arms crossed, and they were glaring at Bokkun, who had failed the doctor and was now behind bars like his comrades.
Bokkun chuckled sheepishly and nervously as Eggman shot him a dangerous glare. Decoe and Bocoe shot him furious glares as well, which caused the little robot to have a break down. "Don't be angry at me!" He whined. "It's not my fault you're still in jail! Honest!" And he burst into a fountain of tears right then and there.
...
Soon, Amy and Sam arrived at the beach. Amy was still pretty excited about being able to go fast as Sonic. "When we sped down that road, I felt so alive! It was incredible!" She said.
"You could go even faster." Sam said, glancing out into the sunset. "You should try super sonic speed!"
Amy smiled. "Maybe someday." She said.
"You know," Sam said. "This turned out to be one of the best dates I ever had."
"This is beautiful." Amy said, looking at the view spread in front of her. "And getting here was sorta fun!"
The two smiled at each other. "Thank you, Sam." Amy said. "If it wasn't for you, I would've spent all day feeling sad and angry at Penny."
"The day's not over yet." Sam informed her. "You could still be in for a surprise!" He turned around to see Sonic standing on the beach side.
"Hey there!" He called. "Sorry I'm late!"
Amy couldn't believe it! Finally! She took a leap out of the car and made a dash for Sonic, her arms spread wide. "Sonic! You do care about me!" She was about to catch him in her arms, when he sped right past her and hurried to Sam. "I'm ready to race, Sam!" He said.
"Hey, where's Silver?" Sam asked, looking around. Sonic smirked at Sam. "He said he was getting tired, so he flew home!" Sonic grinned.
"My car has a new engine." Sam said, grinning back at the blue hedgehog. "It'll blast right past ya!"
"We'll see about that!" Sonic smirked.
The two smirked, and sped off, leaving Amy speechless. She finally growled angrily. "Those two guys!..." She flung her hands in the air and yelled, "THIS IS DEFINITELY THE WORST DATE EVER!"
...
"It's getting late, Cream and Cheese." Penny told her two young friends. "We'd better get in, for you know Ella gets worried pretty easily when it gets late like this."
"All right, Penny!" Cream said, taking the human girl's hand and holding Cheese in her other.
"I hope she's cooking up some big dinner tonight, because all of that playing made me hungry!" Cream told Penny. Penny giggled. She looked up. "I wonder how Amy and Sam were doing...?" She stopped short when she heard rustling in the nearest bushes.
"Hey, look!" Cream gasped.
The three looked inside the bushes, and Penny's eyes widened, and she, Cream, and Cheese looked at each other.
Inside the bushes was a yellow robot.
