Chapter 48: Right Here, Right Now

May and Drew are still on their date at the gazebo. May's scepter jewel is still glowing because it's using one of its powers. May used it to keep the lights from going out around the gazebo, pillars, and forest.

May leaned her head on Drew's shoulder and Drew rested his arm over her shoulders, holding her close to him. They're looking up at the stars twinkling bright in the night sky.

May exhaled. "You've really made this promposal one to remember."

"I'm glad you liked the song." Drew said.

"I always love everything you give me, even if it's a song. You're always so romantic, which I love about you."

"You know me, I know how to romance my fiancé."

May blushed. "Yeah…"

It stayed quiet between them. The night is peaceful, the stars are shining in the sky, the air is fresh. They continue looking up at the stars.

After a minute, Drew took a deep breath. Cue the music.

(This song is "Right Here, Right Now" from High School Musical 3.)

"Can you imagine? What would happen?" Drew sang. May lifted her head and looked at Drew. "If we could have any dream." Drew now slowly started turning his head to look at May while singing, "I wish this moment was ours to own it. And that it would never leave." They stare into each other's eyes.

"Then I would thank that star that made our wish come true." May sang.

"Cause he knows that where you are is where I should be too." They sang together. They paused before continuing. "Right here, right now."

May smiled while singing. "I'm looking at you and my heart loves the view." She sang. "Cause you mean everything." Drew stood up and held out both hands to May.

May took Drew's hands. "Right here," They sang together as May stood up.

"I promise you somehow." May sang. They lowered their hands to the sides, still holding each other. "That tomorrow can wait for some other day to be."

"To be. But right now there's you and me." Drew sang. They never lost eye contact with each other.

Drew released May's right hand and started leading her towards the middle of the gazebo.

"If this was forever, what could be better?" Drew sang. "We've already proved it works."

May stopped walking in the middle of the gazebo and pulled Drew's hand, spinning him around to face her. Their toes are touching. "But in one thousand four hundred eighty-eight hours." May sang as she lifted her free hand up to Drew's head and ran her hand through his hair.

"A bend in the universe." They sang together.

"Is gonna make everything in our whole world change." May sang. "And you know that where we are will never be the same." She added, bringing her hand down from Drew's hair and looking at her engagement ring.

"Right here, right now." They sang together as Drew lowered May's right hand with the ring on it. They stare into each other's eyes.

"Tomorrow can wait for some other day to be." May sang.

"To be. But right now there's you and me." Drew sang.

"You and me."

"You and me."

"Oh...you and me."

"But right now there's"

"You and me." They sang together.

"Oh we know it's coming." May sang as she let go of Drew's hand and ran to the forest. "And it's coming fast."

"It's always you and me." They sang together. May hid behind a tree while Drew walked across the grass path towards the forest.

May peeked behind the tree and didn't see Drew anywhere. She felt someone wrap their arms around her stomach and she laughed a little as she got lifted and spun around as Drew sang, "So let's make every second last."

Drew put May down and they stared into each other's eyes again. "Make it last." They sang together.

"Right here." Drew sang as he took May's right hand in his left. He used his free hand to tuck strands of hair behind May's ear.

"Oh, right now." May sang.

"Yeah, I'm looking at you."

"And my heart loves the view."

"Cause you mean everything."

"Right here." They sang together as they started walking hand-in-hand back to the gazebo. "I'll promise you somehow."

"That tomorrow can wait." Drew sang.

"For some other day to be." May sang.

"To be. But right now there's you and me."

They stop walking in the middle of the gazebo and they face each other.

"You and me." May sang.

"You and me."

"Oh, you and me."

"But right now there's"

"You and me." They sang together, ending the song.

"It will always be you and me." Drew said.

May smiled. Her smile faded when she thought about something. She looked down.

"But...we'll be King and Queen." May said quietly.

Drew stared at May for a moment before speaking. "Yeah. I know."

"Will there really be time for just us?" May asked quietly.

Drew now understood what May was getting at. As the rulers of Hoenn, they'll be responsible for keeping everyone safe, people and Pokémon alike.

Drew just smiled and lifted May's chin up with his index finger. She saw his smile and looked at him in confusion.

"When you're in love, you make time." Drew said, answering May's silent question.

"But Drew-"

"Shhhh…" Drew hushed, moving his hand and putting a finger to her lips to quiet her. "Remember, it's all about right now." May blushed. "There's no rush for the future. Just live in the moment. And we'll deal with the whole royalty thing later."

May smiled and Drew brought his hand back down. "Thanks Drew. I love you." May said.

"I love you too."

After a moment of staring into each other's eyes, May started to feel weak and she closed her eyes and almost fell down, but Drew held her waist, keeping her from falling.

"May, are you okay?" Drew asked worriedly.

"I...feel...weak." May said. Her heart jewel is blinking pink and so are the lights on the gazebo.

Drew kept May from fainting on the ground and he noticed the scepter heart jewel blinking. "May, stop using Illuminate." Drew said.

"I…" Was all May said before she fully fainted and Drew felt pressure on his arms, pulling him down. Drew quickly went to the side of May, holding the back of her neck in his arm and his other arm wrapped over her stomach, holding her back. He slowly lowers her to the ground on the blanket, still holding her in his arms.

"May, can you hear me?" Drew asked. "Please stop using illuminate. It's draining your energy."

There was no response from May. Drew just stared at May's unconscious face.

"May...please." Drew whispered. "You've got to."

Still no response from May.

Drew then got an idea. He took May's scepter and stared at it. "Let's hope this works…" he muttered. He took a deep breath. "Stop Illuminate!"

The lights went out and the jewel stopped blinking. "I can't believe that worked." Drew said.

Drew put May's scepter in her waistband. He then moved his right hand to May's legs, holding them at the crease, and his left hand moved to her back. He carefully lifted May up bridal style. He fixed her position, making sure he's got a good hold on her. May's Delcatty that was still laying down on the blanket just stood up and looked up at Drew.

"Nyan-!" Delcatty said worriedly.

Drew looked down at Delcatty. "Don't worry about May. I'll make sure she gets home safely." Delcatty nodded. "Come on. Let's go." He said as he turned around.

Drew and Delcatty started walking along the grass path and to the exit of this secluded spot in the forest. Drew was carefully carrying May while walking out of there. He looked at May's unconscious face.

"Don't worry, May. You're gonna be okay."

They made it to the castle gates and the two guards opened them once they saw the sleeping May. They didn't ask any questions because they know that Drew is her fiancé. Drew entered castle walls with Delcatty. Delcatty walked to the back of the castle and went to the greenhouse while Drew entered the castle thanks to more guards opening the doors for him.

Drew surprisingly walked all the way from the forest to the castle and didn't even come close to dropping May. He just channeled how much he needs to keep May safe and that's what kept him going. He was soon at May's room and Dahlia opened the door for him.

Drew entered the room and walked to the bed, carefully laying her down on it. "Thanks for bringing her here, Drew." Dahlia said. "She used too much power, huh?"

"You can tell?" Drew asked incredulously.

"Of course." Dahlia said. "When she sleeps, she at least moves. And when she uses too much power and passes out, the only moving part of her is her stomach because she's breathing of course."

"Wow. I'm impressed. And yes, she used too much power. It was the scepter's illuminating power and she kept it on for like half an hour."

"Half an hour straight?!" Dahlia almost yelled.

"Yeah...sorry. I should've told her to shut it off sooner." Drew said.

Dahlia looked at May. "Half an hour is too long for her to keep using the scepter's powers. She has been getting better at it and can last longer, but not thirty minutes yet."

Drew sighed and faced May. "I'm sorry. It's my fault."

Dahlia looked at Drew. "What happened to make her use the power?"

Drew faced Dahlia. "Well...I borrowed her Delcatty to use Thunderbolt and keep the lights that decorated the forest and ga- I mean...area I told her to meet me at."

Dahlia cocked her head in confusion. "Area? What were you about to say before?"

"Sorry. May and I promised each other a long time ago that we wouldn't mention to anyone about our secret date location."

"Oh. Okay then. Continue."

"When Delcatty got exhausted and stopped the Thunderbolt, the lights went out and it got pitch black." Drew said. "And so May decided to step in and illuminate the lights."

"And so...why is it your fault that she fainted? She's the one that used the power on her own."

"I know, but...it's my job to protect her, so I should've stopped her fifteen minutes in using her power."

"Well, I don't think you're to blame for this. And she won't think so either. I'm just glad you actually brought her back."

Drew looked at May. "Is it okay if I spend the night, Dahlia?"

"Umm...I'll have to ask the King and Queen."

Drew looked at Dahlia. "Could you do that? I don't want to leave May's side when she's like this."

Dahlia smiled and nodded. "I'll be back." With that said, she walked out of the room.

"D-Drew?"

Drew heard May's voice and he turned to face the bed and look down at her. "How are you feeling?"

May opened her eyes completely. "My head hurts a little bit." She said, placing her right hand on her forehead.

Drew sat down on the bed, looking at May. He brushed May's cheek with his left hand, tucking strands of hair behind her ear. "It'll be okay. You need to rest."

Drew lowered his hand and he pulled the soft blanket over May's body. "Drew...how did I get here?" May asked. "I thought we were at the gazebo."

"We were." Drew said. "But you kept your Illuminate spell on for too long and you passed out. I carried you back here myself and your Delcatty also came back and went to the backyard."

May blushed. "You...carried me?"

"Sure did."

"I wasn't too heavy for you?"

Drew shook his head. "Not at all."

May smiled and placed her hand on Drew's. "Thank you for bringing me back."

"You're welcome."

"Drew." Dahlia said, entering the room. She looked at May. "Oh. You're awake." She looked back at Drew. "Did you still want to stay?"

Drew nodded. Dahlia smiled. "They said you can."

"Thanks, Dahlia." Drew said.

"Good night, you two." With that said, Dahlia left the room.

"Drew, what is she talking about?" May asked.

Drew took off his shoes and crawled into the bed, laying down next to May. "This." He said as he pulled the blanket over both of them. He wrapped an arm around May's neck, bringing May closer to him. She rested her head on Drew's chest and in his arm and she blushed. "I'm spending the night to make sure you recover."

May nuzzled her head into Drew's arm and closed her eyes. "Thank you."

Drew rested his head on May's head and closed his eyes. "You're welcome."

"Love you."

"I love you too."

One thousand four hundred eighty-eight hours as sung in the song is the number of hours until May and Drew's wedding.
