Chapter 60: Team RWBY
The Sea Feilong was by far the largest Grimm Ruby had ever seen, and she couldn't wait to tell her Uncle Qrow all about it. Of course, she had to defeat it first.
The second the Grimm appeared, bursting out of the water with a splash and a scream, Ruby was ready. She grabbed Crescent Rose, activating the sniper rifle and dashing towards the monster.
"What are you doing?!" Weiss cried, chasing after her with a saber.
At the shore, Ruby met a terrified Jaune, a panicking Velvet, and a soaked Reese.
"Oscar!" Jaune screamed, but the freckled boy was nowhere to be seen. Ruby scanned the water. On solid ground, she could fight with minimal issue, but on waves?
"What happened?!"
Ruby turned, Yang and Blake had appeared beside them, weapons in hand.
"There's a huge Grimm in the water!" Reese said breathlessly. "I dragged Oscar out to surf, and-"
"Oscar's still out there!" Jaune waded into the water. "Oscar!"
The Sea Feilong looked up, sensing Jaune's panic, and sent a bolt of lightning into the water. Jaune jolted back, electrocuted.
"Jaune!" Ruby yelled. Velvet dove into the water, pulling him to shore.
"What do we do?" Blake yelled, staring as the Sea Feilong reared back again, lightning in his mouth.
"Fight?" suggested Yang.
Reese gaped at them. "No way! That thing is massive! We need to get back on that ship and get out of here!"
"Oscar's still in the water," Jaune panted, "we can't leave him…"
He looked at Ruby desperately, and Ruby nodded in determination. "We're saving Oscar,"
"But the Grimm," Weiss protested, "are you crazy?"
Yang punched her fists together, her gauntlets activating. "No, I'm Yang," she turned to the Sea Feilong. "Let's fight."
And with that, Ruby and Yang were in the water, swimming frantically for the Sea Feilong to get a clearer shot and find Oscar. The Grimm opened its mouth, its lightning growing. Ruby closed her eyes, clenching Crescent Rose, preparing for electrocution, but it never came. Instead of searing heat, she felt ice cold against her skin.
She opened her eyes. She and Yang were both floating on icebergs. Weiss and Blake stood behind them, weapons in their hands, floating on another large piece of ice.
"You can thank the Schnee Dust Company for saving your life," Weiss snapped. Ruby stood up on her iceberg, shaking. "Now will you two slow down so we can figure out a-"
"Look out!" Blake cried, as another bolt of lightning flew at them, not through the water this time, but through the air.
Yang sent a blast of fire at the lightning with her gauntlet. Fire met lightning a few feet in front of them, and the force of the collision knocked the four girls back.
"We have to get closer!" Yang cried. Blake nodded, panting, in agreement.
Weiss sighed. Did she have to do everything herself? Using her semblance, she created a path of glyphs from Yang's iceberg to the Grimm. "Watch your step,"
Yang and Blake took off, leaping from glyph to glyph as they approached the Sea Feilong. Ruby stayed back, staring at the Grimm through the barrel of her sniper rifle. She fired, and a dust-powered bullet hit the Grimm across the face.
"Oh, yes!" Ruby cheered.
The Grimm screeched, turning away from Blake and Yang and focusing instead on Ruby and Weiss.
"Oh, no," Weiss moaned.
"Do you get motion sick?" asked Ruby as the ball of lightning from the Grimm sped towards them. Before Weiss could answer, the two entered a tornado of rose petals.
Weiss felt something hot pass by her left ear, and she wondered if it was lightning from the Sea Feilong, fire from Yang, or a bullet from Blake. Were they headed back to shore? To safety? To get help?
Nope.
In a burst of rose petals, the tornado disappeared, and Weiss and Ruby were freefalling through the sky. They weren't plummeting towards the shore. They weren't even plummeting towards the ocean. They were plummeting towards the Grimm.
"Ruby!" Weiss screamed, furious. A mile below, she could see Blake and Yang attacking the Grimm. Blake stuck her cleaver onto the neck of the serpent. With one hand, she held onto the rope that allowed her to swing around the massive Grimm in a circular motion, avoiding its attacks. With her other hand, she held onto Yang, who fired round after round at the Grimm, cracking its armor.
The monster snarled, furious, and lunged at Yang. Before it could sink its teeth into her, however, she and Blake were whisked away. The Grimm roared, its mouth full of rose petals.
"Great," Weiss thought as she began to plummet through the air, "Just great. Looks like I really do have to do everything myself,"
Seconds before colliding with the Sea Feilong, she activated her semblance, jumping gracefully from one glyph to another until she was directly in front of the Grimm's face. With a gust of rose petals, Ruby, Blake, and Yang appeared beside her.
"Front row seats," Yang grinned, cocking her gauntlets, "Nice,"
All four girls loaded their weapons and took aim. When the Sea Feilong opened its mouth, they fired. Lightning, fire, dust, and bullets shot from the girls to the Grimm, and the monster dissolved, its armor broken, its ashes falling into the water.
After a few seconds of silence, Weiss's glyph broke, and the four girls fell into the water. The Sea Feilong was destroyed, but the boy was still missing.
"Oscar!" Ruby cried, swimming around in a circle. There was no sign of him. "Oscar!"
"Oscar!" Weiss joined in.
"Oscar!" cried Blake.
"Oscar!" yelled Yang.
Ruby bit her lip. They were greeted only by crashing waves and roaring wind. The boy was nowhere to be seen. "Oscar?"
