The ring didn't work and Klaus was forced to transform once again stuck in wolf form for another month.
2 weeks later
3rd Person POV:
Elena had finally worn Jeremy down with her judgmental eyes and endless lectures... so he was lumbering over to Lavender's bakery for a long-overdue apology.
He walked in and was happy to see it wasn't very crowded.
"Hi! Welcome to Lavender and Honey's what can I get you?" the girl behind the counter cheerfully asked.
"It's okay, Lucy, I got it," Vee says from behind Jeremy surprising him.
She tilted her head towards the door and the two of them walked outside,
"What do you want?" She tersely asks
Jeremy sighs and scratches the back of his neck uncomfortable with the situation, "I uh, wanted to come and apologize."
"Really?" Vee asks not buying it.
"I was upset about Bonnie and Enzo and I was drunk and just lashed out. And yeah I really am sorry," he tells her
"Awesome apology, are we done now?"
"Look I get it, your not my biggest fan, but I need to know something."
Vee scrunches her eyebrows, "what?"
"In the version of all this that you saw... did Bonnie and I end up together?"
Vee's stance relaxes slightly remembering this is a lovesick teenager, so she gently tells him the truth,
"No, I'm sorry."
She can't stand the gutted look that comes over his face, so she adds
"But Elijah didn't end up with me... and I damn well plan to make sure he does. Universe be damned," she says with a smile quoting Tessa.
"Look, Jeremy. If you really do love her, don't just go around acting like a little bitch, show her you're worth choosing."
"Wow, a little bitch?"
Vee shrugs, "I call 'em how I see 'em."
Jeremy can't help but grin, "thanks for the advice."
Vee nods and goes back into work.
Later that night...
Vee was finished locking up for the night and was upstairs in her apartment getting ready for bed when she noticed her dog excited by something he could see out the window.
"Hey Honey, what has that tail wagging?" Vee takes a look and spots a wolf in the middle of the road, just then thunder strikes and it starts pouring.
The wolf starts whining but Vee tries to stay strong and closes the window.
Back in the bathroom, she tries to ignore how heavily the rain is now coming down, but she just can't take it anymore,
"Stupid hormones making me all soft,"
She goes down the stairs to the back and sees Klaus is still there. Reluctantly she opens the door and pokes her head out to make sure no one else is around,
"Look here's the deal, this is a one-time thing, and if you so much as growl at my dog I will open a window and throw you out of it, got it!"
Klaus nods as his tail starts wagging excitedly to get inside,
"I'm so going to regret this," she mumbles to herself before opening the door wider, "come on in."
Klaus is quick to dash indoors not leaving her anytime to change her mind.
Inside the apartment Vee quickly finds Honey trying to jump on Klaus' back.
She can see Klaus tense his jaws trying to keep from growling at Honey, what is it with small dogs that gives them this Napoleon complex, they have no fear when it comes to larger animals.
"Honey, no! Go lay down," Honey whines a bit but listens and prances into the master bedroom.
"Matt's room is empty you can stay in there," she tells Klaus walking over to the linen closet to gather some blankets for him.
Later that night Klaus was woken up by a noise, he didn't know what it was at first but soon realized it was crying coming from Vee's room.
He ignored it at first telling himself he didn't care, but this wasn't his first stop tonight.
He had first tried Rebekah's new place, she was adamant he would drag in dirt and ruin all her new furniture. He was tired of sleeping outside like an animal, granting he was in the form of one but the whole thing was starting to make feel very isolated.
Sighing he got his back legs underneath him and walked over to Vee's bedroom door, he nudged it open with his nose and saw her frame gently shaking on the bed from her tears.
He did an easy jump up and startled her,
"Klaus, we agreed you don't go on the furniture," she said reprimanding him.
But he let his nose touch her tear-stained face, she tried to wipe away the evidence,
"I'm fine, really it's hormones..."
Vee closed her eyes, tired of pretending, "I miss Elijah, what if we never find him?" she asks finally saying her biggest fear out loud.
If Klaus was being honest with himself he missed his brother as well. He hadn't realized he had let out a whine until Vee placed a comforting hand over one of his paws,
"You miss him too, don't you?"
The two fall asleep reluctantly taking comfort in the other's presence.
The next morning Klaus was awoken by the sound of his Brother's voice
Klaus POV:
"Lavender, I had a lovely evening with you, and... to be honest, I am eager to repeat it, please call me when you receive this message."
Elijah! I hear his voice still half in a dream and as quickly as my reflexes will allow I open my eyes and Vee has a phone pressed to her ear.
"To delete this message press 1 to save it please press 7."
It was an old message... Elijah's not here. It hits me so hard it feels like I've been kicked in the stomach.
I look back over to Vee to see her lower the phone down to her belly and play the message again.
She must not want the baby to forget the sounds of Elijah's voice.
Something sparkly catches my eye I see she is playing with a necklace, it has an engagement ring lace through it.
Elijah proposed?
I realize he's still angry about me lying to him about throwing our siblings into the ocean but how could he not tell me something so pivotal?
Hearing the message play again for the child growing inside of Vee, I do have to admit... he could have chosen a worse woman to spend his life with.
