Hey everyone! I hope you are all doing well, and staying safe and healthy through all of this. For my fellow American's I hope you had a great thanksgiving. And many people are starting their holiday seasons now, so happy holidays to all.

This one shot is AU, no magic, Emma was raised in Storybrooke with her parents, she still had Henry. Where I live, we got a bunch of snow, I'm guessing somewhere around a foot of snow. And today, as I type this, am on my second day of a snow day. And as I finish, we got most of the snow is still around. So, I'm giving our favorite mother and son a snow day.

I do not own OUAT or it's characters, just my imagination.

Chapter 215: Snow day

Storybrooke was currently being covered in fluffy white snow. It had started the night before, and continued all night, into the morning. Making schools and different businesses close.

Emma quietly tiptoes into her eleven-year-old sons' bedroom, it was actually the second time that morning, the first time, to turn off his alarm clock, so he could sleep in. She smiles as she glances out the window to their backyard, that was blanketed with snow, she couldn't wait to tell him. What was making today even better, was that today was Friday giving them a long weekend. She softly sits on the side of his bed, and places her hand on his stomach, and softly rubs circles "Hey kid, time to wake up" she says in a soft voice, although loud enough for him to hear.

Henry's face scrunches up a bit, as he lets out a sigh, his eyes fluttering open. He was surprised to be woken up by his mom instead of his alarm clock. His eyes suddenly going wide "Did I sleep through my alarm?" he asks worriedly looking at his alarm clock. With his grandma being his teacher, he felt obligated to be on time always, and took pride in doing so.

Emma shakes her head, then points to his window, that looks out to the back yard "take a look Hen…"

Henry, who was now sitting up, does so. A big grin on his face, seeing all the snow, then looks back to her "Does that mean...?"

Emma nods "Snow day" she grins big at him.

Henry raises his hands into the air "Yes" he cheers in triumph.

Emma laughs, ruffling his hair "That means you, me and Hope today" she smiles brightly. The idea of having a day with her kids, sounding amazing. She worked as a secretary at the police station where her dad works, working Monday through Thursday. Then someone else worked Friday through Sunday, giving her a extra day off. Which after welcoming her daughter Hope, who she had with her husband Killian, about 10 months ago, was a godsend only having to worry about childcare for 4 days was helpful.

Henry nods "That sounds great" he smiles "Killian had to go to the docks still?" he asks of his step-dad.

Emma nods, her husband Killian managed the docks, and couldn't take off over snow. He had to make sure shipment left and came in. "That's right, he said he'll be home a little after four, and you guys can work together cleaning up the snow."

"I can do that" Henry smiles, although he knew, knowing his step-dad he had already shoveled once.

"Thank you" Emma smiles, kissing his cheek. "I'm going to go get Hope, then start getting us some breakfast going, okay? You just work on getting yourself up and going."

Henry nods, as he stretches some "Okay, I won't be long mom."

Fifteen minutes later, Emma stands at the stove cooking breakfast. Hope close by happily babbling in her highchair with a couple toys sitting on her try to play with. Emma chuckles "is that so?" she asks her daughter as the little girl had a serious look on her face as she gabbed on. But her mom's attention earns a big grin from the little girl, who was so happy when she was talked too.

Then Henry walks in, still in his jammies, but with a hooded sweatshirt on, although the house warmed up nicely, the snow brought a bit of a chill to the air still. "Hi sissy" he smiles, going over to give his sister a kiss, rubbing her back. That earns him a loud squeal from the girl.

Emma laughs "She loves her bubby" she tells him, as she puts some pancakes on a plate.

Henry blushes a bit "I love her too" he tells Emma, as he makes his way over to her "We having pancakes today?"

"You bet, that and some scrambled eggs. That sound alright?"

"Yep. Can I make us hot chocolate?" Henry asks, biting his lip. That was something they were starting to let him do, when they were around.

Emma nods, passing him the tea kettle "You gotta fill this up…"

Henry takes the kettle over to the sink, and does so, then brings it back to Emma, who got out mugs and the hot chocolate mix out for him. "Mom… is the snow going to stay for Christmas?" he asks, as he gets the mugs ready like he was taught.

Emma gets the kettle going "I think so… we have 10 more days until then. And the temperatures aren't getting too warm, plus we're getting more snow before Christmas too…"

Henry smiles with a grin "Cool. I like when we have snow on Christmas."

"Me to kid, it makes it feel Christmassy huh?"

"It does" Henry nods, as he finished getting the mugs ready "Can I ask something else?"

"Of course."

"Do you think dad will be able to get to town for Christmas with all the snow?" Henry asks worriedly. His dad was what you would call a gypsy soul. He was constantly traveling all over the country, and had even gone to Europe a time or two also. But Christmas was one of the two times a year, he came back to town, the other being Henry's birthday. Otherwise, they mainly just talked on the phone or facetimed a few times a week.

Emma sighs, facing her son, after getting the last couple pancakes out of the pan, turning off the burner and setting the pan aside. "Henry, you know your dad, he'll find a way here regardless. He told me he plans to get here on the 22nd anyway. That gives him three days before Christmas."

"So, even though he's in New Orleans, even with snow, he'll be here?"

Emma nods "Yeah Henry, that is right" she tells him, bringing her hand to the back of his head, stroking his hair "he won't let you down."

Henry gives her a small smile "Okay, thank you mom" he says, as the kettle sounds, meaning the hot water was ready. And he starts with what he was showed to do.

When they were done with breakfast, Henry was tasked to watch Hope while Emma cleaned the kitchen and dishes up from their breakfast.

Henry sits on the floor with hope, as she played with a activity block, having a blast with that. "All the way around Hope, look" he says, as he shows her the beads can go around the loop of the maze type thing.

Hope giggles, trying to copy her brother, although she struggled, whimpering a bit at first, she finally gets it. She smiles widely and claps her hands in excitement.

"You did it" Henry cheers as she claps her hands.

That is when Emma walks into the room "What did she do?"

Henry turns around to see her "She got the beads around the hoop" he says proudly.

"Wow" Emma smiles, coming over and squatting down to her daughter, tapping the tip of her nose "good job baby girl" she says, earning a huge grin from her daughter. Then she looks over at Henry "I got a few more things to do. If you want, you can find something Christmas to put on for you two. And when Hope goes for her nap, we can watch a movie, alright?"

Henry nods "You got it" he says with a thumbs up.

With Hope down for her nap, and everything straightened up, Emma sits on the couch with Henry "What did you pick out kid?"

Henry snuggles close to her side with a blanket, laying it over their laps "Elf, we haven't watched it on DVD yet. Only on TV."

Emma grins, wrapping a arm around him, and looks out the window, snow still falling "That's a good choice Henry… let's start."

Henry presses play on the remote, setting it aside, then brings the blanket up higher, covering his chest and arms. He nuzzles a little closer, as the opening music plays "I think, this is one of my favorites."

Emma runs her fingers through a little of his hair "Mine too… just makes you so happy watching it, huh?"

Henry nods "Yeah… and some funny lines… I love saying, son of a nutcracker" he says, trying to mimic it like from the movie.

"Just be careful where you say though, okay?" Emma says, wrapping her other arm around him.

"I know, especially at school with grandma" Henry nods, as the movie shows at the orphanage where baby Buddy gets into Santa's bag.

"Good" Emma nods, as she relaxes, embraced by her son, as the movie plays.

Emma suddenly feels herself wake up, finding herself and Henry both asleep the credits of the movie playing, and she chuckles "guess we fell asleep…" and she looks down at Henry, not having the heart to wake him yet, enjoying the sweetness as he slept, much like when he was younger, many moons ago. Emma carefully grabs the remotes turning off the movie, and tv. She stays put letting her son sleep and watches the snow fall through the front window of their home. This was what snow days where all about. Tomorrow after the snow is done, and cleaned up, they could go play in it. Build a snow man, hop in the car with the sled and head to the park where there is a hill to slide down. Snow made Christmas time all the more magical, even more son when your child is growing up, it made them seem little again. Emma sat there with a sign, hoping for a few more of these where coming this winter.

Hope you all enjoyed this one-shot. Like I said before, I started this when I was home for a snow day from work Tuesday, and today finished it up. Hoping we get a white Christmas this year, we definitely need it after how 2020 has been. Until next time…
