Chapter 49: Prom Night

The cafeteria doors opened and May and Kiara entered in their beautiful Princess dresses. May has on a long pink one and Kiara has a long blue one. Both of their dresses have several layers and glitter on the top and bottom. Their hair is both done in similar ways: down, wavy, and curly at the ends. Their lipstick is pink. May's eyeshadow is pink and Kiara's is blue.

As they walked towards the dance floor, all eyes turned their attention to them. Some boys dropped their mouths open in awe and their girlfriends looked away from May and Kiara angrily.

Dawn gasped. "Guys, look." Dawn pointed to May and Kiara.

The gang turned their attention to the two Princesses. "Now those are fairytale Princesses." Misty said.

Drew saw all eyes on May and Kiara. He saw boys staring at his fiancé and he got a bit angry at them. He started walking to May and Kiara.

"May...I don't know if I should be here…" Kiara said quietly.

"Kiara, I brought you here because you should have fun with the rest of the gang." May said. "It's okay that you don't have a date. You still have your friends."

"I guess so…"

Drew stopped in front of May and Kiara. He smiled at May. May smiled back at him. "I'm glad you're here." Drew said.

"Me too." May said. "You look really handsome in your tux."

Drew blushed. "Thanks. You look really...beautiful."

Now it was May's turn to blush. Drew took May's hand and they started walking towards the gang with Kiara.

The prom has already started with the DJ playing some music and colorful lights flying all over the cafeteria. The entire cafeteria is decorated like a fairytale with all the girls wearing princess dresses and the boys all have tuxedos.

The gang all split up to go dance or get beverages. May and Kiara are sitting at a table while Drew is at the food bar, getting May a drink.

Kiara is staring at the dance floor at all of the people dancing and she has a frown on her face. "What's wrong?" May asked.

"I just...am sad that I can't be here with Nate." Kiara said. "He completely used me when I thought that he actually liked me."

"Yeah...but it's going to be okay."

Drew sat back down at the table. "Here's a lemonade like you ordered." He said, placing a cup of lemonade in front of May.

"Thanks, Drew." May said. She took a sip of the lemonade. Drew also had a cup of lemonade.

"So Kiara, please cheer up." May said. "This can still be a really magical night."

"Hmm…" Kiara hummed, frowning.

The night has been going great for the gang. They did a few dances, they talked a whole bunch, and just enjoyed their boyfriends' company on this magical night. Kiara, on the other hand, hasn't tried dancing yet or leaving her table. It's been an hour into prom and Kiara is feeling more lonely than ever because she's watching May and Drew dance together.

"Drew, could you do me a favor?" May asked while dancing with Drew.

"Sure. Anything." Drew answered.

May turned her head and looked at Kiara. She then saw Kiara stand up and walk out of the cafeteria. May backed away from Drew and faced the direction Kiara went. "Why did she leave?" May asked.

"You should go after her and see what's up. I'll wait for you at the table." Drew said.

May turned around. "You're okay with me leaving?"

"Of course. It shouldn't be for that long. Go and cheer her up. She really needs that."

May smiled and kissed Drew on his cheek. "Thanks, Drew. I'll be back." She said and then she turned around and started walking towards the doors of the cafeteria.

Drew smiled and watched her leave the cafeteria before he walked back to the table and drank his beverage.

May is in the hallway now and she found Kiara leaning against the wall, looking down. "Hey." May said.

Kiara looked up after hearing a voice. She looked at May. "What are you doing here?"

"I came to see why you left." May answered.

"Oh. I just...it's embarrassing." Kiara said. "Being the only one in prom...without a date."

"I'm sure you're not the only one without a date."

"It sure looked like I was." Kiara looked back down at the floor.

May stared at Kiara for a moment. "Listen Kiara, you don't need a guy to be happy. Girls have more power in them than meets the eye."

(This song is "Born To Be Brave" from High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.)

May smiled and started singing. "Don't need a King. I got my crown." She sang as she walked around Kiara to her other side. "Don't need a hero to lift me off the ground." Kiara looked up at May. "I built this heart. It's beating loud. Won't let no bad blood ever bring us down." Kiara smiled.

"Keep flying higher." May continued. "Fight like a fighter. What if I'm everything that I will ever need? A Queen Messiah. A strong survivor. Even the worst days won't get the best of me."

May and Kiara started marching back towards the cafeteria. "Cause I was born to be brave." May sang. "I know who I am inside and I won't apologize. Made my mistakes. And they gave me wings to fly to my castle in the sky." May and Kiara stopped in the middle of the hallway, facing each other.

"I used to feel like I was lost." Kiara sang with a bright smile on her face. "It's like my phone's navigation was turned off. But it's the road I stumbled on. That led me right to the place where I belong."

They continued walking, dancing slightly to the beat. "Keep flying higher." Kiara sang. "Fight like a fighter. Yeah, I am everything that I was meant to be. A blazing fire that's getting brighter. Don't need nobody here that don't believe in me."

"Cause I was born to be brave." Kiara continued as they both continued going to the cafeteria. "I know who I am inside and I won't apologize. Made my mistakes. And they gave me wings to fly to my castle in the sky."

"Let me hair down and let it go." Kiara sang. "No more running, I run this show. Way up here, yeah, the view is gold. Born to be brave. Now I'm standing miles high like castles in the sky." They opened the doors to the cafeteria and entered.

The entire cafeteria was dancing to the song that May and Kiara are singing. "Bosses and Queens, stand up on your thrones." Everyone in the cafeteria chanted while dancing. "Know who you are, this is your kingdom. Legends at heart, individuals. Go make your mark, be original."

It turned into an instrumental dance session. And after that…

"Cause I was born to be brave." May and Kiara sang together while dancing in the center of the dance floor, surrounded by couples dancing. "I know who I am inside and I won't apologize. Made my mistakes. And they gave me wings to fly to my castle in the sky. Let my hair down and let it go. No more running, I run this show. Way up here, yeah, the view is gold. Cause I was born to be brave. Now I'm standing miles high like castles in the sky, like castles in the sky." They sang, finishing the song. The cafeteria erupted into applause for May and Kiara. Even though they didn't hear the beginning of the song, they still liked joining in at the end.

May and Kiara walked to the table with Drew at it. "That was pretty amazing." Drew said.

"Thanks!" May said happily. May and Kiara sat down at the table, May next to Drew and Kiara across from them. "So Kiara, do you see now? You don't need a boy to be happy. You can have fun with your friends."

"Yeah. Thanks, May." Kiara thanked.

May looked at Drew. "And about that favor…"

Drew looked at May. "Oh yeah. What did you want me to do?"

"Do you think you can dance with Kiara?" May asked. "So she can experience the dancing too."

"What? You don't have to do that." Kiara said.

May looked at Kiara. "But I want you to have fun with friends, and Drew is a friend, right?" She looked at Drew. "Please? Just give her one slow dance and then I'm all yours for the rest of the night."

After a moment of silence, Drew smiled. "Okay. I'll do it. Since you asked me to and stuff, how could I say no?"

"Really? Thanks, Drew!"

Drew and May looked at Kiara. "So Kiara, what do you say?" Drew asked. "You're my friend and also my future sister-in-law, so…"

Kiara smiled. "Thanks, guys. I guess I'll have one slow dance with you, Drew."

"Okay then." Drew stood up and looked at May. He kissed May on her forehead before walking off with Kiara to the dance floor.

May suddenly just got an idea and she stood up and walked to the stage. She talked to the hostess of the prom and then to the DJ. The music got shut off and the hostess walked up to the stage, everyone looking up at her.

"Now everyone!" The hostess said into the microphone. "I have a special surprise for you! Please welcome to the stage...Princess May!" Everyone applauded as May walked up on stage.

May stood facing the audience behind the microphone stand. She made eye contact with Drew and smiled at him. Drew returned the smile. May looked to the DJ, giving him a thumbs up to start the song. The music started playing through the speakers.

(This song is "Night Is Young" from Descendants Wicked World.)

The couples started dancing on the dance floor as May sang into the microphone. "Why you standing over there, acting like you just don't care? We can make our own kind of music. We might come from different worlds, might not be your kind of girl. But I just wanna let go and lose it."

May looked to Drew and Kiara dancing to her song. "We are lost and found. So let's go turn the beat around. And maybe find a brand new sound. Let's turn it up right now."

May looked to the entire audience in general and continued. "Because the night is young. And it's just begun. Let's get it started, get it started. And go till the sun comes up. The night is young. The night is young. The night is young."

"Dance together, dance alone." May continued. "Let it out and let it show. Changing colors under the strobe light. I just wanna have some fun. Let my worries come undone. Right here, right now it's feelin' so right."

"We are lost and found." May sang. "So let's go turn the beat around. And maybe find a brand new sound. Let's turn it up right now."

"Because the night is young." May sang. "And it's just begun. Let's get it started, get it started. And go till the sun comes up. The night is young. The night is young. The night is young."

"And I wish that it would never end." May continued. "I wish this song could play and play. Be who you want to be and then just let the rhythm take you away."

"Because the night is young." May sang. "And it's just begun. Let's get it started, get it started. And go till the sun comes up. Because the night is young. And it's just begun. Let's get it started, get it started. And go till the sun comes up. The night is young. The night is young. The night is young." May sang, finishing the song.

Everyone stopped dancing and they all applauded May and cheered. May did a small curtsy and then walked off of the stage. Drew and Kiara went back to the table and May walked there as well.
